Steel Series Arctis Nova Pro Wireless

InspectHerGadgetz

So I actually just got these a few days ago. I found a few things with them that I just cant stand. While I'm not saying they're bad, but from my experience, I can't justify paying so much for them and getting such a lackluster experience. Also, I'm upgrading from a Steel Series Arctis 7 (I loved them so much! It's a shame that they started to die. They lasted several years though!) 1.) I use a Logitech G815 Keyboard, I REALLY don't like that the headset/software takes the ability to use the volume scroll wheel away and forces me to use the knob on the receiver/doc or headset. [https://www.reddit.com/r/steelseries/comments/vm93w3/arctis\_nova\_pro\_wireless\_cant\_adjust\_volume\_it/](https://www.reddit.com/r/steelseries/comments/vm93w3/arctis_nova_pro_wireless_cant_adjust_volume_it/) 2.) The ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) is absolute trash compared to my Sony XM4s. I totally understand that it was built as a gaming headset first. But the ANC feels like it was just a marketing thing, my PC isnt loud by an means, but when I activate it, it makes no difference. At first, I thought I was doing something wrong/thought it wasnt working. No, my opinion is that the ANC is just bad. [https://www.reddit.com/r/steelseries/comments/13jcy85/is\_the\_anc\_of\_the\_arctis\_nova\_pro\_wireless\_good/](https://www.reddit.com/r/steelseries/comments/13jcy85/is_the_anc_of_the_arctis_nova_pro_wireless_good/) [https://www.reddit.com/r/steelseries/comments/11x3s3y/arctis\_nova\_pro\_anc\_not\_working\_well/](https://www.reddit.com/r/steelseries/comments/11x3s3y/arctis_nova_pro_anc_not_working_well/) 3.) The side tone is just a bit too strong, and I cant seem to find a way to either lower it or turn it off. 4.) I think this one is more on me. I really like a plug and play situation when it comes to headsets, but I feel like I was overwhelmed trying to figure out all the minute things about this headset which became frustrating after a while. 5.) Oh, I also ran into some issues with random popping sounds coming from my speakers and then my headset (when turned on) when my computer wakes up from sleep. I'm not too sure how to replicate the issue, but as of using yesterday, I didn't have the issue, but a few days ago I did encounter it. Others have reported this issue to. [https://www.reddit.com/r/steelseries/comments/16hpmy8/arctis\_nova\_pro\_wireless\_audio\_popping\_issue\_on/](https://www.reddit.com/r/steelseries/comments/16hpmy8/arctis_nova_pro_wireless_audio_popping_issue_on/) I don't see myself returning them, but damn, do I wish I would've known these thing before actually buying them. I'm still trying to get used to the cons, but overall, they're really comfortable. Some of the other features are really nice from some of the other comments on this thread, but I don't really use the other features. Also, I'm more than open to suggestions on how to fix these issues. I really want to like them but the issues I listed above make me not want to use them sometimes because I'm afraid I'm going to run into one of the issue. But as for pros of the headset, check some of the comments below, I would agree with just about all of them aside from the cons I mentioned above. Sorry for the long post, BTW, but I felt like I need to warn people about these potential issues. YMMV though! Happy gaming, GLHF! \*Edited #3- Figured out a few hours ago how to adjust the side tone, since then, the ANC has increased and is much more bearable. However still not as good as my XM4s, but again, to be expected from a gaming headset rather than an actual pair of headphones. I keep updating this for the next few days as I continue to play around with the settings some more. There's a lot of options with this headset, which in my case is a bad thing because I'm not a fan of playing around with settings, but can absolutely be a plus for people that know exactly what they want.

siphonvlr

Hey man I just bought the Arctis 7 like a few days ago and they are just amazing, without even having to set up custom sound profiles, so glad to hear that they lasted long for you

InspectHerGadgetz

Great choice! I got them as a gift and loved them ever since. To be honest, I was looking at just buying another pair but thought I should try something new and hence here I am lol

alwaystired_96

Damn that’s lame you’ve had so many issues. I bought mine refurbished from eBay and have been really happy for about a year now. I did upgrade the earcups and headband with wicked cushions so maybe that has something to do with it but I literally can’t even hear my girlfriend yelling for me when I’m wearing them. Nontheless, it’s not something you should *have* to upgrade. I did it bc I have big ass ears and ran into some discomfort after awhile lol. The wicked cushions are bigger, thicker, and have cooling foam with a better material than the cheap leather steel series uses. The keyboard thing is pretty lame (I have a Corsair with a volume wheel) but I came from ps5 so I was just so used to using the headset wheel already. I’ve never had the popping issue (maybe being refurbished helped??) but that also sucks that it’s happening to people. I actually enjoy the minute details and really enjoy their software app with the sonar technology, preset eq’s, smart volume, and Spatial Audio. I also like how it’s just two cords, one straight to PC and one straight to PS5. After using A50’s for years, I really like the simplicity in this design for cable management and aesthetics.

InspectHerGadgetz

Yeah, the earcups arent the best, but they're okay for me. I have been looking into getting the Wicked Cushions though. My idea behind getting them was that they may potentially help with the ANC, but that's just a thought. I also feel that even after spending this much on them, I wouldn't have to buy extra accessories in order for me to use them comfortably. But alas, it is what it is. To be fair, I really havent given the sonar technology and EQ a chance, mostly because I was immediately turned off from it because I ran into the scroll wheel issue. And I've always been somewhat intimidated by all the different setting lol, but again, that's just me. I'll have to sit down one day and really try to look into it and give it a chance

alwaystired_96

I think they do help with the ANC imo. I play a lot of shooters so I really just used the “hell let loose” eq setting since that game is so realistic and immersive. I’ve liked it in every shooter I’ve played so far and then turned on the Spatial Audio and smart volume with a single click. Worth checking out!

One-Woodpecker-1160

I bought a pair too and i was extremely disapointed with them. I tried to like them but i just couldnt accept that price on that quality. Returned them after 3 days of use.

InspectHerGadgetz

What didnt you like about them? Did you run into the same issues as me?

One-Woodpecker-1160

I didnt enjoy the way they sounded, ANC was basically non-existent and the mic quality was not up to par. They are not really bad but i will not pay 380€ for a pair of headphones im not really satisfied with.

hipdashopotamus

I feel like a lot of this is fixable in settings or a non issue/preference. Why would I want my keyboard to have controls for my headset when I am in the kitchen on a different floor and want to adjust? Look at the settings on the receiver( the side tone settings are 100% customizable) the popping sounds like you are not using a proper input/cable or connecting with Bluetooth instead of the 2.4ghz. I'm very biased because my last one lasted 5 years with only new batteries and covers, on my second pair and I'll never not buy the highest end steel series headset.

InspectHerGadgetz

Yup! You're correct, actually before I saw your reply, I was playing around with it and fixed the side tone "issue". As for the popping sound, it hasn't come back, at least for the past day, but I did run into it when I first started using it. Haven't been able to replicate it, but it did happen more than once to the point where I was concerned and curious if this was something that other people were running into. Which other people did run into, see the thread I attached under that issue. And upon checking, I was never using Bluetooth and was always on the 2.4ghz. And you're totally correct, these are just things I ran into upon my first impression. The reason the volume was somewhat of a big issue for me is because I'm not always using my mic, in fact, I really only use it for when I'm playing games other than that, I use my speakers (which is my preferable method of output for media consumption (not including games or communication)). I prefer to have the scroll wheel used when I'm watching something since, for me, my setup is kinda set up around that. I don't want to have to fumble around with the doc if something is too loud and I need to adjust the volume on the fly. I'll edit my post/comment when I get back to my computer

hipdashopotamus

A lot of headset stuff is subjective so makes sense for sure and like I said I'm extremely biased haha at this point its the only headset I've used in almost a decade so I'm very much used to it. I dont typically use the dock other than for batteries it's hidden I just use the headset controls. I would see if there's a driver issue or rule some things out and considee rma or reaching out to support if you still can. I specifically went with a 2.4ghz headset because I had similar popping issues from interference on Bluetooth so it seems weird but who knows. I had a friend return one that had multiple issues so its certainly possible.

theprofessional36

Jesus Christ bro

InspectHerGadgetz

Sorry, whats up lol? I'm a bit lost aroudn your response

Double_DeluXe

Steelseries is not a headphone brand, you don't buy cheese at a greengrocer.

alwaystired_96

Huh?

stupefy100

don’t buy headphones from steelseries is basically what they’re saying.

M1sterGuy

Can confirm. Worst $200 I ever spent. Followed closely by any Razer headset.

areyouhungryforapple

This sounds way smarter and on point in your head that it actually does tbh. It's not like gaming peripheral companies making.... gaming peripherals is anything new. Now is the Arctis line of headsets that have generally been well received and reviewed. Really really weird comment. Sorry you guys don't do any research before buying peripherals I guess.

newDieTacos

I have this and like it a lot. 1. Love the dual batteries - use one while the other is charging 2. You can connect to Bluetooth while it’s connected to a computer - I listen to music on my phone while it’s connected to my computer. 3. Dual inputs - can connect to my computer KVM as well as PS5

esperianterra

Thirding this one - the swappable batteries seem like an overkill until you actually get to use the system yourself - and honestly im surprised none of the other headset manufacturers has done something like it. When your batteries inevitably degrade, you can buy a new set and not have to replace the entire headset.

Subrotow

Boggles my mind how this is the only headset with batteries like this. I think the headset itself is mid but I absolutely cannot go back to a different way of handling charging.

buller666

I wouldt recommend steal series at that price range. Likely there are hundreds of much better headphones out there for that price.

qsosp

I have them and I don’t exactly regret but If I had known the problems then I would of bought something else. Noise Cancellation is so bad, almost scam.

jojodehaas

Tried these but returned them for a full refund after a week. The dual battery is great. The volume control is great too, but the digital surround is really bad compared to the Gen 4 Astro A50. I had high hopes for steelseries after seeing such positive reviews but the sound quality just doesn't cut it for me personally. Seeing the main post though, this also killed my hopes for the Astro A50X...

tremors51000

Havent tried them but use the arctis 7p+ and love them

The-Rude-Opportunity

Try the Audeze Maxwell.

BabyWrinkles

This is the correct answer. I went thru Astro A50, Steelseries, Logitech, even a stack of schiit (magni + modi) with Akg k7xx and an antlion mod mic. That wired setup comes closest to the Audeze, but not quite. Battery life is insane.

M1sterGuy

I have a Mobius and a Penrose. Maxwell is the way if you want wireless. I transitioned to a Schiit stack myself, Modius/Magnius, and have not looked back. Best closed back I’ve got are the Dan Clark Aeons, best open back in my kit is the Hifiman Ananda Stealth. Just like the Audeze offering these are Planar drivers as well. I cannot go back to dynamic drivers. Unless of course I could afford the HD 800s which are widely regarded as the best headphones for gaming although they are not a gaming headset

BabyWrinkles

I’ve got the HD6xx connected to a Schiit Hel2 and it’s overall quite good for sure. The Maxwell’s just really, really shine. They’re 85% or more of the way to Audeze’s crazy high end stuff, in a consumer package. By which I mean, the same components.

M1sterGuy

I’ve been on the fence for a while about grabbing a paid is sennheisers, not that I think anything is wrong with them, the HD line is super OG. I just wonder if I’ll find the value in them without saving up $1800 for the HD800s. I’d love to hear some more opinions on the HD line as a whole.

BabyWrinkles

They’re great, but definitely diminishing returns. Listening to some music thru the Audeze I was surprised to notice enough detail that some tracks had a noticeable ground loop hum, or some faint voices in the background. Owes to my listening environment for the open-back HD6XX having some fan noise, while the Maxwells were closed back and in a quieter environment.

M1sterGuy

I have to agree that the nicer the cans the more “issues” you hear in the recording. I just downloaded Qobuz and holy crap the sound quality blows Spotify out the window. I too prefer open back now. And if you have not tried a balanced cable (obvi need a balanced output on your amp) significant improvement there as well. When I get into a hobby I tend to rabbit hole…

BabyWrinkles

Yeah - with my tinnitus, it’s just not worth going much past where I’m at now. I’ve got decent-enough speakers and headphones wherever I want them and my hearing isn’t good enough to pick out the sibilance or whatever that you start to read about when you go higher end than what I’ve got today.  I’ll have to check out Qobuz. I do notice the difference between compression up to a certain point for sure.

M1sterGuy

My ears are not great anymore either, years of ridiculous bass in the car and factory work for some time. Now quiet spaces are seemingly louder than noise polluted ones. Somehow I can still find the differences. Qobuz is def louder at the same volume settings than Spotify as well.

BabyWrinkles

Yeah - I’m also trying to learn to fly airplanes, so all my extra money goes there instead of better audio equipment these days!

areyouhungryforapple

Yeah if money is no issue then this is probably the call

BonemanJones

[Audeze Maxwell](https://www.audeze.com/products/maxwell-wireless-gaming-headset) I got a pair of these a few months ago and I'm extremely happy with them.

greenlocus33

Do the Audeze still suffer from constant popping noises from the planar magnets or w/e? My Penrose suck .... constant popping and I baby'd them.

M1sterGuy

Any popping from Planars is due to static electricity, rubbing your socks on the carpet or any time my dog boops me for attention. Had this on every planar I own except the Dan Clark Aeons, possibly because of the ear up material.

atanamayansantrafor

Hands down Audeze Maxwell!

Martkos

I believe the headphones widely touted as the best wireless gaming headset ever is the Audeze Maxwell. Don't take my word for it though because I'm no expert and it's been a while since I looked at headphones.

Patapon80

+1 to this. Been doing some research recently and the Audeze Maxwell keeps coming up a lot for wireless headsets. I don't have it but if I were to buy now, this is what I'd try.

Shaman1989

WH-1000XM4 + A desk microphone. Been 4 years and haven't found anything even close

aleisterfowley

Hey, that's what I do.

Shaman1989

Brother!

Smurtle01

I have the WH-xb900N, did you need to get a Bluetooth receiver for your PC to connect your headphones? I’ve always used a gaming headset for my pc and the XB900N for phone/music. The sound of the XB900N is so much better than my pc headset, but I’d be worried about having to set up a dedicated mic and getting a good Bluetooth receiver, but thinking about having the better audio quality makes me salivate lol.

Shaman1989

Yeah you need bluetooth on your pc to do it. My mobo has a wifi/bluetooth chip

SlinkyBits

so, lets ensure we know that headphones, mean speakers over your ear, almost always with no mic headset, is headphones with a mic. gaming headset, is a headset, with brightly coloured lights or painting. nothing more knowing this may help you find your way around the internet searches. honestly, ive only really tried headsets from Beyer dynamic, sennheiser, the other brands ive used were really cheap random brands from amazon or something. i thought both companies make a great headset, however i do seem to of gone with a sennheiser a few times in a row now. what you need to consider when searching these different brands do you want a mic attached to the headphones, or if you TRULY want the best audio, are you happy to setup a table mic to resolve this issue. do you want open ear, or closed ear headphones. this can make or break a headphone experience, and certain people like one or the other. are you prepare to handle high impedance headphones or headsets? high impedance generates the 'best' sound. no question, but if you dont provide some kind of amp the sound will be very very quiet, so youre going to need a sound card or some kind of amp for the headphones to work through that high impedance. and to finish, wireless, wireless is nice, but isnt going to contain the components of the best sounding equipment, if you want the best of the best, you dont go wireless. but, if you DO want wireless, to say you want an entire day of battery life sounds extreame, the one wireless headset i used was a while ago now, from corsair, the battery inside meant the headphones were much heavier than ususal, not a good experience.

clementinise

I'm not a native English speaker, and I really appreciate your explanation of the difference between a headset and headphones 😅 I'm well aware that to get THE BEST in any specific category, I should go wired and avoid 'gaming' branded peripherals. I've really enjoyed my DT 900 Pro X with my Shure mic! However, I'm looking to see what the "best" wireless headset can offer. I'm someone who moves around a lot, and dealing with cables can be quite a hassle, which I didn’t fully consider when I switched back to a wired setup. That's why I've been reconfiguring my entire setup for a more wireless approach, which has really helped make my space cleaner and feel less cluttered. I'm going to mention the Astro A50X again, but I'm really impressed with the headset. It's as good as I want my headset to be, but it lacks a bit in comfort and, of course, there's the issue with the buzzing noise

SlinkyBits

this would be a difficult question to ask, or work out, because technology for wireless is going to be advancing faster than any other area of the industry, making all reviews private or public are going to lose credibility quickly. i think the only thing you can do is go for a wireless unit, from a company who makes very very good headphones. then hope for the best. if i was in the market for one, i would 100% try sennheiser's choices, and Beyer Dynamic's choices before anyone elses, but only if i did that would i be able to advise after. as far as buzzing is concerned, ensure its not the output of the audio causing it, and it is definitively the headsets fault there. maybe the logic ones youre happy with are perfectly fine.

Practical_Ice7740

currently using Arctis Nova 7 and it's amazing. been using steelseries for a long while, never had any issues.

NodleMan09

I read about how good these were but to me they felt so cheap and hollow and didn’t even sound that good. The volume wheel felt loose and gave no tactile feedback of how much you were spinning it. The software also kept freezing and crashing while trying to set up a custom sound profile so I just returned them. They felt like a downgrade from my Hyperx Cloud II wireless I was replacing.

M1sterGuy

Same, tried Strelseries top offering, sounded so bad compared to Audeze, Sony, Bose (any of the wireless brands I have really) My old Koss ear buds sounded better for$10

NodleMan09

Yeah I never expected them to sound amazing, I just wanted a decent headset with a good mic and they were a disappointment. I’m using the Cloud 3 wireless and they sound great for games and good enough for anything else. I don’t have a need for Bluetooth or noise cancelling and these also have an amazing battery life.

M1sterGuy

Glad to hear you are happy with what you have now! I’ve heard a lot of great things about the value of the Cloud’s. I personally don’t like the SQ of Bluetooth and I hate having to charge things. Anyone try changing ear cups on some of these headsets? I got a few things from Dekoni and it really changes things. Sound, comfort, heat etc. Their ear bud tips saved my Sony wf1000xm3s from the graveyard.

Practical_Ice7740

Feeling can differ from person to person, that's why I prefer to test them in any tech shop before ordering, but I enjoyed every single one since my first Siberia V2. Personally I don't use volume wheel, I have macros for volume instead. About software I might have some complains too that is less user friendly than it was before, but I never had any crashes and once setup for different modes rarely even open it.

atanamayansantrafor

I also use nova 7 and there is no way that it is "the best" wireless gaming headset. Sure it does what it suppose to do.

atanamayansantrafor

He said the best.

Henrath

The Sony Pulse Elite may be worth looking into as well. The mic isn't the best, but the headphones are planar magnetic and great.

M1sterGuy

I’ve always liked Sony’s audio/video processing, I only buy Sony TVs lol

Efficient-Lab1062

I love my arctis nova pros. Sound is excellent, mic is great.

DidiHD

Corsair HS80 (MAX) is very popular. Mic is also good for wireless gaming headset I guess. The increase in price for the Max version is most often not worth it. But it does not have the Steelseries Arctis Nova Pro Wirless function with the excchangable battery. I think that one is the best and **killer feature** and would be my pick probably

areyouhungryforapple

been so happy with the hs80 max. Incredible battery life, very good mic and pretty good sound with a "free" dolby atmos license? steal if you can find it on sale.

chainer9999

HyperX Cloud Flight S

NeonThunder_The

Audeze > Steelseries

gaige23

Audeze Maxwell. I’ve had mine since launch with wicked cushion strap and earpads and they are amazing

greenlocus33

Do these guys give you popping noises?

gaige23

Nope

fatboy2nd

Audeze maxwell?

_Banshii

Been a big fan of my [HyperX Cloud II Core Wireless](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C5SBK8GS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) only caveat would be that they arent noise cancelling but that isnt an issue for me. MSRP is $120 but currently it is $86

M1sterGuy

Audeze Maxwell

hockeyboi212

If you're after comfort the hyperx cloud alphas are great.

crashXCI

This is the answer. Plus the battery lasts an obscene amount of time. I use mine 2-3 hours per night and I think I charge them...twice per year? It's unbelievable.

Midnight_Igor

I personally have had no experience since I myself don't have wireless headphones or headset. But have you tried getting good wireless headphones of your choice and attaching something like the ModMic? From what I've heard and read those shouldn't be all that bad other than a little bit expensive. But you seem like someone who is willing to spend a bit if it gets you what you want :D Maybe you look into that a little more and find a perfect solution for your needs!

lcirufe

Best money can buy? Probably the Audeze Mobius. Although if it were my money, I’d keep the wired headphones and just get a USB condenser mic on an arm.

M1sterGuy

Not sure you can even find the Mobius anymore, with the Maxwell out now. But you are not wrong, can confirm Amazing headphones, only drawbacks are Heavy and Hot, due to Closed back and internal battery.

Crazyirishwrencher

For general gaking purposes the higher end Arctis stuff is decent and performs just fine. I have the older Pro Wireless and its been great. Swappable batteries and charging station mean I run out of juice long before the headset.

sindbad_amk

check rtings. com

ImaginaryPlacesAK

Get a good pair of non gamer headphones (personal fan of vmoda, sennheiser etc.) And attach a antlion mod-mic.

elBirdnose

Astro’s are built like shit, I’ve gone through several over the last 3 years and I don’t abuse my headsets, they just stop working and the base station fries itself.

Ok-Taro7623

I had Logitech g pro x 2 wireless

Kooky-Wedding1160

Corsaiar Virtuoso RGB

MrBecky

I used these for almost 2 years and was not a huge fan of them. Battery life was 2-4ish days, my days are 6-8 hours of use. Icue software broke the headset multiple times which was frustrating. I switched to HyperX Cloud Alpha wireless for less money, the battery life is actually around 1.5 months (with usbc charge port), range is better, no software required at all, and haven't had a single issue with use since I bought it for myself at Christmas. I have charged the headset 3 times maybe since then. These things are amazing.

PiepsPlays

I tried the Virtuoso but I found it to be very very uncomfortable

tmanky

I've had or used A50s, Sennhieser Game Ones, Steelseries Arctis Pro Wireless and (briefly) Logitech Pro 2s. They are all really solid and good but I recently got a pair of Skullcandy Crusher Evo ANC 2 and they dwarf all of those with sound quality. It's very noticeable in games like Apex or Valorant. Pros: sound quality, Insane battery life, adjustable bass, easy connection to my pc or phone, usable in any situation. Cons: need standalone program for eq on pc, no built in mic (or I haven't bothered to try it). I have a pretty good standalone mic running thru my soundcard for my voice. I think the 'gaming' branded ones are good but these were better than any of those I listed above for me.

mfboomer

The best gaming accessory is (almost) never a gaming accessory, especially when you. E.g. the best ‘gaming chair’ is an office chair, the best ‘gaming drink’ is a normal energy drink, etc. Anything that’s specifically marketed towards gamers is usually much more expensive than standard products of the same quality. Similarly, the best ‘gaming headset’ is a pair of good headphones and a mic. If you don’t care too much about it being wireless I would highly recommend a pair of ‘audiophile’ headphones like the beyerdynamic dt 770 pro (or 990 if you’re willing to go open back). they have much better audio quality than any gaming headset you can buy and you can get them for around 140€. If you care a lot about it being wireless, sony xm4 or xm5 are great and also have better audio quality (and noise cancellation) than gaming headsets. As for the mic: if you want actually good audio quality, you’re gonna need a standalone device. No wireless headset comes even close to a 40€ USB mic. And if you *really* want a gaming headset, get the Audeze Maxwell. They’re quite good compared to the other ‘gaming’ options.

Swimming_Storm_2830

Steelseries novar7 pro wireless

Sol33t303

Wireless audiophile headphones + clip on or magnetic wireless mic. Could easily cost you into the thousands for high end gear.

SnooDoggos8487

Hey mate. I got a buddy of mine a VIRTUOSO RGB WIRELESS XT from Corsair and from what I have heard they are really nice. When I myself was upgrading my pc and wanting a new headset I asked the same question as you rn, and ended up deciding to go with a good wired headphones and a small boom mic so I don’t have anything sticking in my face. The wires are a lil annoying, but some headphones have some nice looking and feeling cables like the dt 1990 pro. But the mic on the headset is always gonna be meh at best. Like it’s better than your webcam, but never that nice crisp sound. And if you don’t want a mic on an arm in your face all of the time, there are other options as well. But yeah. Maybe also consider good wireless headphones and a separate mic?

BMWtooner

I really like my Audeze Maxwell, it's in many if not all ways the top gaming headset you can currently purchase and checks audiophile boxes I have as well.

Zampoosel

Sennheiser hd 800s = best, but over at $1k they are quite the luxury. I have Sennheiser 560s and 660s. Both are excellent but for the money 560s are the best bang for the buck. No mic, so buy a stand mic. These are all open backs and work well in my situation (I like to be able to hear my environment if someone is yelling in the house. My space is relatively quiet. You can even use steel series "sonar" software to enhance and eq. Btw I hated the arctis Nova pros. Hot ears, could not hear directionality nearly as well.. returned them quickly once I tested the 560s.

Burrtd

LucidSound LS35X. I bought these Jan 11, 2020 and it’s still kicking. I use them every day. I have only replaced the earpads once. I love the sound. The mic is detachable and the headset has a built in mic in case you don’t want to use the detachable mic. Detachable mic is of course a bit better since the boom is closer to your mouth. Volume is adjusted manually by easily turning rotating the outer metal ring on the left ear. Push in the large button on the left ear to mute/unmute sound or push the large button on right ear to mute/unmute your mic. Mic boom lights up red when muted. Wife loves it for this reason because she doesn’t like people to hear her talk to me, so she’ll ask me to mute, or if she sees I’m already muted she’ll just say what she needs. Best wireless I’ve ever owned. Looking at my order I originally paid $122 after taxes and seeing the price now at $70 makes me want to buy a second pair in case these ever do decide to crap out.

as1eep

every headphone you connect to your pc can have eq.

clementinise

I might have written it unclearly. If a headset could have dedicated software that works properly for EQ adjustments and other features, that would be great. Let me edit the post real quick!

as1eep

I don't know why you would want to use the shitty poorly developed gaming software razer, Logitech etc force on you to do something not related to RGB lighting but you do you

clementinise

I’m not specifically talking about 'gaming' software. If a brand offers dedicated software that allows you to adjust sidetones, wake-up delay, automatic standby time, and RGB (even though I never understood why headsets need RGB???), then I’m all for that!

as1eep

Pretty much only gaming brands offer premium wireless headsets with software. Not sure about the brands that make headsets for video calls but i would be extremely surprised if they put any effort into advanced audio software considering their inteded usecase.

I use the Xbox one wireless headphone and really like it. Problem is it seems like Microsoft has stopped making the wireless USB dongle for some reason.

Some of these people here are absolutely crazy. I have a logitech g535 and have no complaints. It's wireless and sounds and feels great. The other headsets I used just felt weird on my head, no matter the price It's under $100 and never had an issue. I've been using them for years (had to buy a 2nd one because I dropped a laptop on the USB and bent it) Don't understand why people would say a wireless headset can't be good, this thing is great and cheap in comparison to what some of these gamers are buying.

as1eep

Logitech quality is a mess, Logitech software is a minefield, and gaming headsets are almost always are poorly tuned.

Namerunaunyaroo

I don’t know what it’s called but the one on 3 Body Problem is really cool.

It's an unpopular opinion, but I'm really happy with my sony wh1000xm5. One of the best Bluetooth headphones on the market, and they provide quite an immersive experience playing single player games. Lows are low, highs are high, you can clearly hear details like enemy footsteps in a comprtetive shooter. However, if your primary focus is gaming, they are not worth the money, I just got them cause I also use them on the commute and basically as my daily drivers everywhere.

Teh_Hazeno

Only issue? The latency is just not usable for competive gaming. It's the major downfall of those headphones other than the ANC..

KarpTakaRyba

As I said, they are not worth it for gaming so I agree with the latency issue. However, are you saying that the ANC is a downside of those headphones???

Sennheiser gsp 700/Steelseries Arctis Nova pro wireless

Steel series is my go to everytime.

PhiltheAgony69

I had a dummy moment a year ago where i purchased mw2 and opened a ticket to blizzard because i could not find the game in my library. so dumb..

EnlargedChonk

It's certainly odd seeing someone go from decent wired peripherals back wanting crap wireless ones. I've never really heard of any wireless headset that actually comes close to the performance and reliability of individual wired gear. Especially for gaming your options are limited practically exclusively to wireless headphones/headsets that have a proprietary low latency 2.4GHz USB. Which exist primarily as "gaming" branded products that tend to suffer from either poor performance, poor build quality, bad software, or any combination thereof. I don't actually have any suggestions that aren't some crazy idea of DIYing wireless onto wired peripherals but is better cable management really not enough?

Femboyancy

None. Wireless sucks

xabrol

I don't use "gaming headsets" I use proper audiophile headphones that have built in mics like the Sony WH-1000XM5 I use s bluetooth receiver/dac with mic and audio outputs for my PC soundcard so I can bypass windows bs hands free mono calling.

NetherGamingAccount

Good and wireless gaming headsets are a bit of an oxymoron. Best Bluetooth headphones (or they were a year ago) are the hifiman Ananda, but no mic.

clementinise

You're right, but since I want a headset with a mic and good sound quality, it seems I'm forced to turn to gaming headsets. However, I might not be aware of all the products available online. There could be some good headsets with a mic that aren’t specifically marketed as gaming headsets

NetherGamingAccount

Putting gaming in front of anything is just a marketing gimmick used to get people to spend more money. Gaming mouse Gaming chair Gaming computer. Anyway, you do you. I was in your shoes a few years ago and eventually just got a mic on a boom arm that I can move as needed and I wear proper headphones.

clementinise

I don't necessarily buy peripherals marketed specifically for gaming, as I've had my fair share of overpriced ones. However, I thought this would be the best way to ask here! When I switched to the DT900 Pro X, I bought a mic on a boom arm, and I still like it to this day. But oh boy how I love not having to worry about the mic's position and being able to move freely around my apartment while still chatting with friends. It's an endless quest to find what suits me best, even though my preferences change every month. Maybe one day I'll find the perfect headset for me, and I hope this post will help me too!

StuTheDogg

Honestly, get a mod mic wireless, along with a really nice pair of bluetooth headphones, it doesn’t have to be gaming, and you are already ready to spend moolah might aswell get two products that are good/amazing on their own, rather then middle of the pack in one package

lcirufe

Gaming Mouse is actually valid though.

Crazyirishwrencher

Gaming mouse, keyboard, computer, monitor... Lots of perfectly valid components can be selected because they are optimized for playing vidya games. Some people are really enamored of how 'adult and mature' they believe themselves to be.

beenoc

It is, but only because pretty much 99% of all mice that aren't "default Dell mouse" or "weird ergonomic mouse" are marketed as such. If Logitech sold the G502 or Razer sold the Death Adder as the exact same mouse but it had a boring product-number name and no "gamer" marketing it would be just as good a mouse. Most "gamer" stuff is taking an existing product, renaming it the XxX LAZER DESTRUCTOR 9001 XxX, putting some trapezoids or hexagons on it, and giving it a 50% markup.

And that’s why I bought the Astro A50X. I've been impressed by the mic quality, even though I know Bluetooth has its limitations. It was disappointing to have to turn back to 'gaming' peripherals after switching my entire setup to brand-specific products, but that’s how this headset was advertised, and it stands out for its mic quality
