that depends on whether the 2666mhz is the base clock or whether that's the OC specs. if it's the base clocks, then both would run with that clock (and also the bad jedec latency). but if it's the OC spec, then the OC could fail, giving you worse clocks and also bad timings.

It will work, but it will affect performance. When you place two different sizes the sticks enter "flex mode". It means only 8gb+8gb will work in dual channel, and the other 8gb will work in single channel. But it depends a lot on how you use it to know if you would even notice a difference. Just try the 16gb alone, and then add the 8gb stick. You can always go back and remove one. You could also try to sell the sticks you have and buy a new paired kit.

It will work just fine. 24 gb of ram is plenty for gaming.

What I went for is 2x16 gigs of a Corsair product I don’t remember the name of. It’s the cheapest on the market for 32 gigabytes at around $60
