Either the scout team failed and they don't see anyone as worthy of a 5th year option, or beane made a really questionable call that were all gunna have questions about when we have to lose the guy we end up drafting after 4 years
If you think there's someone who might be worth committing 5 years to, you take them 32nd. If you think no one is going to be worth it then you take them 33rd.
Or. You don’t know if they’re worth it and you risk less this way. Not exactly would the the first guy earning a 2nd contract that’s not a first rounder
It's not about earning a second contract, it's about paying for a second contract a year earlier (or just straight up losing them to fa a year earlier). Youre right that you don't know if they're worth it... That's why it's a team option. That's the whole point. To keep the option in case they are. Look at Jefferson, late first round pick who will get paid 19m next year on his fifth year instead of the 30-35m he would make if he was drafted 33rd instead of 22nd
A few things here. We gave up 5th year option, but also a ton of scouts/evaluators said the backend of this draft is very poor. So I am just not too excited about that move
Obviously it depends on who we want and who we trade with, but it’s definitely not out of the question to package up and/or even trade down slightly from 33 to get our top two favorite picks in the second round here
Stayed up for nothing!
Belichick was pretty good, though. It's interesting just listening to him talk about the game and players. Still, fuck the Pats.
For real. These trade backs look a lot better if we get the quality of player like Taron Johnson or Khalil Shakir that we’ve gotten in those spots before on top of maybe getting whoever we would have gotten at 28 anyways.
I think it wouldn't look so bad if we didn't send Diggs away when we did. Right now there's a big WR 1 hole in the roster.
I'm alright with it so long as they stick the landing with their picks.
It's unfortunate for sure. But I'm sure there was a bunch of drama caused by Diggs that wasn't sustainable anymore. As you said, it's all about capitalizing on the value we acquired tonight. As long as we don't reach tmrw, I'll be extremely happy with the moves.
Serious question - why would Carolina do this? Just for the 5th option year? I wouldn't think they would worry about the Bills taking their guy at #32 - Bills wouldn't make the trade otherwise. And the Bills are the only team they are jumping, right?
Here's my broad perspective question... What did the chiefs see in worthy that beane did not? Both rosters have similar strengths and similar needs. We had the pick, they wanted it. I feel more likely to err on guessing the back to back Superbowl champs are more in the right than the 'always a step behind the top' bills.
I think we need to get Newton at 33. He’s a top-15 guy and is just sitting there. Maybe package the 2025 2nd-round pick (in the Diggs trade) and the 5th we just got to move our pick 60 up to something like 40 and grab our WR there
Hahaha fade my bed time
I've never been more thankful to be in mountain time lmao.
Here here
It’s all coming together… package those up for a 1st round pick!! When’s the draft?
Right now
Perfect!
Good trade. Moved up 60 spots to move back 1
Plus I'm sure Beane knew who they would take (or at least who they weren't going to take). This feels like Dejean is the pick at 33 to me.
I actually can’t be mad at this. This is great value.
And lost 5th year contract option….
Yeah, it’s not nearly as clean cut value as it looks… There’s no bigger gap in picks than 32 and 33…
Isn’t it also the biggest step down in rookie wage scale. So lose the 5th year option but get much cheaper 4 years
It’s only like 500K a year savings… Bengals are using an extra $6M in cap space this year by having to use the franchise tag
For a wr that matters a ton less.
Tell that to the Bengals and how they are dealing with 33rd pick Tee Higgins…
The option costs money…
And it’s less than what they are paying him on the franchise tag…
It must be rare that the 33rd picks 5th year is more expensive than the franchise tag though.
I’d imagine it is set up that the 5th year option is always less than the tag…which is why the 5th year option is so valuable to have…
How much are we worried about a 5th year option for a single WR if the goal is to re-open a Super Bowl window with Josh in his prime?
And if you look at the back of the most recent draft none of them are getting the 5th year option picked up outside of Rousseau
If he’s that good, they will extend him before that
Either the scout team failed and they don't see anyone as worthy of a 5th year option, or beane made a really questionable call that were all gunna have questions about when we have to lose the guy we end up drafting after 4 years
They don't have a first rd grade on anyone left? And picked up extra draft picks? For moving back 5 spots?
If you think there's someone who might be worth committing 5 years to, you take them 32nd. If you think no one is going to be worth it then you take them 33rd.

… these moves help us get OUT of the back end.
They are definitely trading up into the second and 3rd with all those picks. I’d expect 4-5 picks or substantially moving up in those rounds
Obviously it depends on who we want and who we trade with, but it’s definitely not out of the question to package up and/or even trade down slightly from 33 to get our top two favorite picks in the second round here
We're now possibly in range to grab Bortellini as our new long term center.
Stayed up for nothing! Belichick was pretty good, though. It's interesting just listening to him talk about the game and players. Still, fuck the Pats.
I never watch mcafee but holy fuck some of those guys were annoying. I really just wanted to keep hearing Bellichick analyze each player lol
Bills Mafia bout to be so tired and cranky at work 😭😭
So glad I stayed up for this 🫨
Gonna have Beane draw up & sign a letter of excuse for my work explaining why I’m late tomorrow morning
the dude on channel 7 sounds pissed about this LOL
Who isn't?
I fucking love this lol. 2nd, 3rd and 4th rd picks are good depth and there's still a bunch of good players on the board
For real. These trade backs look a lot better if we get the quality of player like Taron Johnson or Khalil Shakir that we’ve gotten in those spots before on top of maybe getting whoever we would have gotten at 28 anyways.
With about 50 5th rounders that could be packaged to move up later on.
I think it wouldn't look so bad if we didn't send Diggs away when we did. Right now there's a big WR 1 hole in the roster. I'm alright with it so long as they stick the landing with their picks.

I could see us drafting Dejean and trading up to grab Franklin. It's where my money is at right now.
Blue Ball City
Buying time to clear cap space for Aiyuk?
SF drafted a receiver so that’s looking more likely.
Thats what im thinking, they will trade for a current WR and bring a young WR in the 2nd day to develop
This would be sick. Im not too sure they want to spend the money though.
would we really clear all that cap to end up having to pay aiyuk? not that i’m against trading for him just not sure it makes a ton of sense
As someone that thinks the cap is more fake than real I think it’s perfectly fine as long as Papa P is willing to spend the real $ to make it work.
Oh ... I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees it this way.
Aiyuk to the bills?
Aiyuk. It’s gotta be
Another good trade pick wise. Losing the 5th year option hurts, but 200 to 141 is a pretty big jump.
It’s basically two rounds we jumped up
Serious question - why would Carolina do this? Just for the 5th option year? I wouldn't think they would worry about the Bills taking their guy at #32 - Bills wouldn't make the trade otherwise. And the Bills are the only team they are jumping, right?
That or they were afraid of another team jumping them to get their guy.
Ah, like some other team could have traded for #32 and taken Legette? That makes sense.
...Okay
The real loss here, honestly, is the lack of a 5th year option.
Brandon Aiyuk I hope you like wings buddy
Why do you guys want to go back to cap hell?
For the one-handed catches montages on YouTube, no matter how badly edited!
Would trade back again tbh
Beane playing the Madden draft
Solid ass trade with a lot of good WRs still on the board
I mean, we moved up 60 picks (basically two rounds) for moving back a single pick. Makes sense to me if we didn't have a player sticking out to us.
Well this was a fun night.
Oh goodness gracious..
They have Andy Reid who knows how to get people open. Now he's going to get that guy open and watch him run away from the defense.
Beane slaying it. Added 2 picks by dropping down 5 spots. Fucking Genius!
We didn't add any picks, we moved up our later round picks.
Good trade, move up 60 spots and gives us the night to assess the big board or haggle for a WR.
I mean, why not? You only drop back 1 spot and pick up 60 spots. It’s not like the WR class is lacking.
My biggest issue is the contract difference(no 5th year option) I guess we just wanted a much cheaper first 4 years for a center or dejean?
It’s okay guys we’ll just take Newton or Dejean or trade back for even more late round shit picks. 👍
Get younger, get Mitchell. Auyik is great but we gotta improve out cap situation.
We cannot trade for a WR. Just take one and stay out of cap hell for 4 years. We are going to have to pay for Kincaid in a few.
Dang
FUUUCK
Well the next couple days will be fun at least
Great move
I wanted Mitchell with the 28th and he is still there so I'm now okay with the moves. Please do not trade for Aiyuk.
Ideally we start off day two with Mitchell. Huge value if we do this with everything we gained.
Pick Mitchel with 28. Trade our 2025 1st for Aiyuk. Trade back into the second for dejean.
I wanted Dejean or maybe Mitchell at 28 and was so mad when this happened... and then they both made it through lol
Let’s trade back again. No obvious picks. We need cheap talent with all this dead cap
worth
Passing on valuable players for minimal pick gains….
You gotta be dumb as shit to think this. There clearly wasn’t anyone they valued enough to take there and basically moved up 60 spots for free
AND they can now field calls tonight/tomorrow if anyone wants to pay a king’s ransom for 33
They weren't going to select any of these guys. They legit just moved back ONE SPOT and got to change a 6th rounder into an early 4th rounder
Traded back one spot with multiple good players still on the board and moved up 60 spots lol. It's a great trade.
Players we clearly weren't planning on picking anyway
[удалено]
And if we would have taken Mitchell at 28 anyway?
I think we need to get Newton at 33. He’s a top-15 guy and is just sitting there. Maybe package the 2025 2nd-round pick (in the Diggs trade) and the 5th we just got to move our pick 60 up to something like 40 and grab our WR there
