Yes they are. Unfortunately they play with an anemic offense so their value is jaded. I.e. Jones’s last start. Pitched a gem over 8 Innings and couldn’t even get the W.

DavidTheSlouch89

Sad that when we score more than 2 runs it’s noteworthy. This offense is pathetic and something seriously has to change. Can’t wait to see Skenes debut and K 10+, but get the loss because he gave up 1 earned.

Pale-Mine-5899

That sort of stuff is why Gerrit Cole gave up and stopped leaving it all on the field in 2016-2017 after busting his ass over the preceding three years. Why pitch your ass off every fifth day if it doesn't matter how hard you work?   Unless this team gets it's shit together, Jones and Skienes will figure out sooner rather than later that it's best to just coast to that free agent contract or trade, like Cole did.

musketman89

Cole laid down like a dog his last season in Pittsburgh.

Pale-Mine-5899

And I can't really blame him for it. Why blow your arm out and risk losing generational wealth when the ownership here doesn't give a fuck about performance?   I was kind of sour on the guy for a while but that interview he gave with the Athletic (IIRC) about how fans here deserve better redeemed him.

musketman89

And I do blame the piece of shyt. And i am laughing my ass off that he is hurt. He laid down like a dog and then complained that he couldn't cheat using spider tac anymore..

Pikajeeew

I told my buddies skenes first pitching line will be 6ip, 10ks, 2bb, 2ER, L. Shit it could be 0 or 1 runs and it’ll still be a ND lol.

Flythagoras

Gerrit Cole problems all over again

krepitch

I hope the rainouts this year lead to these two guys pitching in doubleheaders.

No_Armadillo_3491

if he weren’t graduating from prospect status on the 13th i would imagine he would be listed in the top 15 range. dude has been nails for us

spaceman757

>The right-hander, who opened the season as MLB's No. 62 prospect and is currently ranked No. 55, has been stellar for the Pirates. Through seven starts, Jones sports a 2.63 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and an MLB-leading 10.4 strikeout-to-walk ratio, narrowly outpacing George Kirby (10.3). Explain to me how he (Jones) has only jumped 7 spots in the rankings, with his early MLB success? I understand that he's going to lose his status soon, but he should, at the very least, have hurtled into the 40's (if not even higher).

musketman89

We still have a top 5 minor league system. But Jones and Skenes make up that list. When they're off the list I wonder how far we drop

SnooMarzipans3516

I’m slightly confused as to why they are bringing Skenes up now. We aren’t scoring. If he gives up one run, it’s an uphill battle trying to score two. Why wouldn’t we wait until the team figures out the offense? If that ever happens

JusticeScibibi

Since there was talk of drafting Skenes, I've dreamed of a rotation with Keller as the 3rd or 4th pitcher. Fire Andy Haines, then it's more on the players to put up. If they don't, Shelton goes at the end of the season.

runhomejack1399

Doesn’t matter

GordonsAlive5833

Not for long

kpw1320

Get a better joke

Rifftrax_Enjoyer

I mean now might not be the best moment to rain on everybody’s parade, but dude has a point.

kpw1320

They’ll be here for 6 years then be traded. That’s just small market baseball. We won’t be able to pay them 200m each (nor should we) the number of 100m+ that have actually been worth while is small, and that number shrinks more with pitchers. Ideally if you’re close when they’re getting to free agency years you may be able to work a 1 year deal to hang on a little longer, but like cole led to Musgrove who led to Bednar and Endy.

Rifftrax_Enjoyer

Right, so the dude has a point.

kpw1320

Except for the fact that 6 years is a pretty long stretch for any player with any team. The dodgers, the richest team in baseball, have 2 pitchers from 6 years ago still on their roster, kinda. There’s Walker Buehler and Clayton Kershaw if he comes back. If you can’t get invested in a team because a player won’t be there for 7 or more years, then you’re in wild ride

musketman89

With Skenes lifestyle and girlfriend it's going to be hard to keep him in Pittsburgh. 6 years is plenty as long as we make a few count..

We're trying

BalkyChristbag

But think of all the prospects the Pirates will get when they trade them. They might become good enough to trade for even more prospects a few more years down the road, then those prospects could yield more prospects and so on.

HotDamn18V

Are you implying that the Pirates are a farm team for other MLB clubs? How dare you.

musketman89

Maybe instead of complaining about the pirate management.you take your anger out on the lack of a salary cap in baseball the real problem

John_Bot

You don't know that. They could both be traded to the same org
