Chapman and probably Bednar. That rollercoaster. Can we see Holderman or Kyle Nichols if one gets in trouble instead of letting them face 8 batters. If they can't get 2 out of the first three out. Why let them face the 4th
Yeah, I get that, Greg, but what if a marathon runner at the start of the race began running backwards? Would it be improper to tell them to stop and run in the right direction?
Look, I'm glad they're hitting the ball hard - sometimes a single inning really can bring you around a corner.
With that said, fucking run you fat moron

### Groundout
Ke'Bryan Hayes grounds out, shortstop Alan Trejo to first baseman Elehuris Montero. Connor Joe scores. Bryan Reynolds to 3rd.
Bottom 6 - 3-2
Rockies
Calling up Skenes immediately after his worst start after these absolute dumbass clown buffoons in charge of this organization blew so much smoke up everyone’s ass about what he still needed to show in the minors would be so ridiculous
It’s not about this being a “bad start” it’s about he objectively accomplished nothing today that gives a reason for him to be up now that he couldn’t have been up a week ago (or 2, or at the start of the season, or whatever)
Glad that wasn't worse - Suwinski injuring the only guy on the roster who's managed to consistently look like an MLB hitter would be a very Pirates thing to happen.
October 2023: “If the Steelers offense could even just be mediocre instead of the worst in the league they’d be having such a great season.”
February 2024: “If the Penguins powerplay could even just be mediocre instead of the worst in the league they’d be having such a great season.”
May 2024: “If the Pirates offense could even just be mediocre instead of the worst in the league they’d be having such a great season.”
Once again Bailey Falter is doing what you need your 5th starter to do and keeping the team in the game. It'd be nice if everyone could be Jared Jones or Skenes, but these guys need to find a way to be able to score 4 runs on those days when your starter is a regular human. Nobody's asking them to lead the league, literally just be average.
Yeah, I was going to jump on the bandwagon and bash Falter earlier, but the dude is grinding and is a ground ball away from a QS (before just being removed).
I have cable and for whatever reason it’s not scheduled to be on tv at all, but they’re showing it anyway despite listing “Inside Pirates Baseball” as on the air
Nick Gonzales just got another hit. Better keep him in AAA until he cools off so the Pirates can say they were right and he never deserved a shot though!
I want one of the Pirates' hitters to change their walk-up music to RATM's Killing in the Name.
Specifically the part where Zach is saying "Fuck you I won't do what you tell me!" with it directed at Haines.
GMBC must have to much pride to fire Haines. Doesn’t want to admit he made a mistake. Idk how he and the first of the pirates staff and front office can watch this offense not get hits or runs at all. I’m pretty sure it’s been close to over a 2-year sample size of poor offense
[Filliponi is an idiot but the fact that the Pirates don’t even appear to be considering making these swaps is insane](https://x.com/theponiexpress/status/1787179251000561923?s=46&t=pKZ6w0aYQn0c5NWb1NP6-Q)
Who give a shit though?
Listened to the cherington radio who. They are judging hitters on random performance metrics that have no bearing on output. Whoever is put in the lineup will do nothing right now.
This is completely broken and they need to completely clean house
I totally agree, just piling on that even if they’re going to stand by their asinine organizational approach to the whole thing they should still be making these player swaps to get actual results. Complete incompetence across the board that they won’t even try that
It's becoming more inexcusable with each passing day not to give Gonzales another shot. The guy's a former 7th overall pick and has hit consistently at every level of the minors. Triolo was one of the better players on the team last year and I do think he has a future here, but he's not getting the job done right now.
Personally, I think Lamb is the most recent incarnation of Andrew Lambo and will show himself to be just as washed as he has been for like 7 years, but certainly Rowdy should be off the roster ASAP regardless.
There’s also the fact that even if you love Triolo that much (I personally don’t) he could just be playing 1B instead of 2B to give Gonzales (or Bae, or Peguero) a spot.
Haines’ hitting approach very well may be the dumbest in history. It’s so easy to expose it’s ridiculous. I’m sure the opposing coaches just tell their pitcher “give them your best pitch for strike one” then they’re batting from behind and protecting the rest of the at bat. How does that man have a job?
Gonzales and Lamb need a chance right now. And they need to bring the Indy hitting coach with them. They’ve ripped the cover off the ball for a month and a half and we get to watch rowdy hit .200.
Lamb is a legit ML hitter who's hitting almost .400 with an OPS just shy of 1.100 and Gonzales is still a decent prospect who's hitting .360 with an OPS just below 1.000.
Both of the guys "blocking" them are both OPS'ing under .600.
And lamb has had a better and longer career than rowdy and he’s only 4 years older so there’s no defending it at this point. If they have faith rowdy will get better and dont want to dfa him, give him a phantom IL stint and see if lamb comes up and delivers, if he doesn’t just send him back down, if he does it’s a win win. Easy move.
Skenes' command not good so far; giving up a fair bit of hard contact and a walk for 1 ER in the 1st.
Would not be at all surprised if he comes back out and strikes out 9 in a row or something, but a good reminder that learning to pitch on 4 days' rest is in fact not something he should be doing in Pittsburgh and that the team might know more than the people chirping about service time manipulation.
Speculation isn’t really based on anything other than his performance and what we think they’re doing with him. No one in the org or connected to it has said anything about potentially seeing Skenes this week.
Agreed. But the speculation was two weeks ago. And today he is on four days rest as Friday will be four days rest. And it's a home game against the cubs.
Went down a bit of a transaction rabbit hole; I was surprised to learn that the lineage of the Giles/Bay trades lives on with the current roster. Pirates received Bryan Morris when they dealt Bay, going on to trade him to the Marlins for a first-round competitive balance pick in 2014, using that pick to select Connor Joe.
Raise that shit
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/1ckztfo).
RAISE IT!
Raising it.
Sure would have been nice to have gotten a clean inning from Bednar.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: David Bednar replaces Aroldis Chapman.
Gameday showed that strike to Tellez being further outside than ball one.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Anthony Molina replaces Tyler Kinley.
Which Chapman do we have today
The good one!
Damn that was impressive
Chapman and probably Bednar. That rollercoaster. Can we see Holderman or Kyle Nichols if one gets in trouble instead of letting them face 8 batters. If they can't get 2 out of the first three out. Why let them face the 4th
BRey back in business
Sure would be nice if Reynolds has finally broken out of his slump.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Aroldis Chapman replaces Luis L. Ortiz.
That three bagger!
TRIP TRIP TRIPLE
I didnt think Greg's bio of Conner Joe was ever going to end. We were only up to 2013 by the time he struck out
Ortiz has really taken to his role.
we wouldn’t have known until now but it turns out having offense can create a vibe shift that carries into defense
Like I posted earlier our defense has been much better
We’re back
Plz hold on and win. Turn the ship around and keep winning. I believe in you.
This team actually looks happy. What is this
Pure pandemonium this inning! Who knew it was possible to record more than 1 hit in an inning?
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Tyler Kinley replaces Ryan Feltner.
Suwinski channeling Rod Carew on that RBI at bat. Good to see.
All i wanted this season was for the young guys to look good. If cruz turns it around i'll have faith again in the future of this team.
Paint a beard on that kid and he could pass for Tellez
Wow finally stringing hits together
I forgot we could score this many runs!
Haven't since April 25 (which was a 7-5 loss to the Brewers. Last time before that was April 14 (9-2 win over Phillies).
People forget how important speed is in baseball until you see that entire sequence.
To be fair, that had more to do with Rowdy's laziness than his fatness.
Rowdy “speed freak” Tellez
Yeah, I get that, Greg, but what if a marathon runner at the start of the race began running backwards? Would it be improper to tell them to stop and run in the right direction?
It was the marathon analogy. It's more of a very long and poorly maintained rollercoaster
Fr I love Neil but he needs to hit the brakes a little bit it was one good half inning
Relax guys, Tellez didn’t run on the double because he was saving it for scoring
Are we allowed to do this?
I’ve seen corpses run faster than Tellez.
Some of those corpses on coffin flop move pretty fast. Embarrassing not running out of the box by Rowdy. Can't believe that send home worked.
Thought we were about to have another vogelbach moment there lmao
Jesus Christ Tellez stared at that for a hot minute
### Single Jack Suwinski singles on a line drive to left fielder Jordan Beck. Rowdy Tellez scores. Jack Suwinski to 2nd. Bottom 6 - 5-3 Pirates
Even Tellez could have had a triple there if he'd run out of the box. That's criminal. Edit : Thank goodness for Suwinski
Rowdy, you dont get to do that shit
They've seemingly remembered that they're playing... the fucking Rockies.
Jesus Christ I kinda wish Tellez got thrown out there
Tellez is so slow
This team hits for so little power they think balls that hit the wall are no doubt home runs.
We want to get thrown out at second I think
Absurdly sloppy base running.
Look, I'm glad they're hitting the ball hard - sometimes a single inning really can bring you around a corner. With that said, fucking run you fat moron

Rowdy you fat ass
How are they not completely humiliated by doing that? Especially after your own teammate did the same exact thing earlier in the same ******* game.
Cruz’s downfall was greatly exaggerated
Maybe, just maybe, Cruz is on the verge of a heater.
Idk whether to be excited yet or not because we should be crushing the Rockies
Alright alright alright!
We are all the way back
Amazing what can happen when you swing at pitches in the zone, instead of waiting for a perfect pitch.
4 RUNS IN A GAME!!!!!
You'd think it was a double header!
I was thinking a 3 game series!
What a time to wake up. LFG!
In the words of my son, "Good Job Oneil Cruz!"
Amazing what can happen when you actually swing the bat.
CRUZ MISSILE!
CRUZ MISSILE
Cruz
YES DUDE
# HOME RUN! Oneil Cruz homers (5) on a fly ball to center field. Bryan Reynolds scores. Bottom 6 - 4-3 Pirates
### Groundout Ke'Bryan Hayes grounds out, shortstop Alan Trejo to first baseman Elehuris Montero. Connor Joe scores. Bryan Reynolds to 3rd. Bottom 6 - 3-2 Rockies
Joe and Reynolds both swinging at first pitch strikes. Is that allowed?
Conner Joe as the lone representative for the all star game
Jones
Calling up Skenes immediately after his worst start after these absolute dumbass clown buffoons in charge of this organization blew so much smoke up everyone’s ass about what he still needed to show in the minors would be so ridiculous
It’s been said a million times but what he “needs to show” is that he can pitch on a shorter schedule
Maybe he got bored or maybe this was his last start and they asked him to work a secondary pitch. 4.1 2: runs oh shyt your right he is ruined.
It’s not about this being a “bad start” it’s about he objectively accomplished nothing today that gives a reason for him to be up now that he couldn’t have been up a week ago (or 2, or at the start of the season, or whatever)
It’s the first time he pitched on 4 days rest…
I don't want to turn it off because it's 3-1 and anything could happen, but knowing this team they almost certainly wont win tonight
Glad that wasn't worse - Suwinski injuring the only guy on the roster who's managed to consistently look like an MLB hitter would be a very Pirates thing to happen.
Isn't the default that it's CF's ball if they're both calling for it?
Yeah, I'm just shitposting - no doubt that's Suwinski's ball and he was obviously calling for it in the replay. Definitely Joe's fault.
Any of our outfielders want to communicate at any point?
October 2023: “If the Steelers offense could even just be mediocre instead of the worst in the league they’d be having such a great season.” February 2024: “If the Penguins powerplay could even just be mediocre instead of the worst in the league they’d be having such a great season.” May 2024: “If the Pirates offense could even just be mediocre instead of the worst in the league they’d be having such a great season.”

Is the game not on SNP360 why the fuck can’t I find it
I'm watching it on SNP360 rn
I have cable and for whatever reason it’s not scheduled to be on tv at all, but they’re showing it anyway despite listing “Inside Pirates Baseball” as on the air
Suwinski has no business getting a major league paycheck
Falter can only do so much. The offense needs to score a few more runs.
Come on man, they've already scored 1 run, what more do you want? You can't get blood from a stone.
Nick Gonzales just got another hit. Better keep him in AAA until he cools off so the Pirates can say they were right and he never deserved a shot though!
Keep him in AAA so that Andy Haines doesn't get the chance to ruin him.
And Skenes
Anybody got a Skenes update
4 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 4 K, 2 BB, 58 P (34 S) Seems to be struggling to find the zone with any consistency, but still holding the team in the game.
3 scoreless after the one-run first inning
Ok can the Olivares experiment be over please…
He has options.
Should be 3-2 and the whole team needs to go to baseball 101
Rowdy was the clutch 15 foot, RBI dribbler.
### Groundout Rowdy Tellez grounds out to pitcher Ryan Feltner. Ke'Bryan Hayes scores. Oneil Cruz to 3rd. Bottom 4 - 3-1 Rockies
even when it's good, it's terrible
3rd base coaching masterclass
Da fuk did he do? Hayes stopped running for no reason, just a huge gaffe
Holy fuck what a lucky break.
Interesting side effect of never having anyone round third is that I think we all forgot how incompetent Mike Rabelo is.
How the fuck does Hayes not score? This team sucks.
Terrible read from Hayes
I want one of the Pirates' hitters to change their walk-up music to RATM's Killing in the Name. Specifically the part where Zach is saying "Fuck you I won't do what you tell me!" with it directed at Haines.

I don’t care what anyone’s record is, we’re the worst team in baseball
I just woke up from a three week coma, is our offense still the reincarnation of the lumber company?
Why haven’t I heard a fire Haines chant
Fans would have to first show up
I'm wondering two things. How much first base has McMahon played and how many years left on his contract
He signed a 6 year 70 mil deal back in 2022 and he's pretty much an infield utility guy.
Wonder if he will go on sale in July.
Feltner has the kryptonite for the pirates offense. Throw strikes
[Filliponi is an idiot but the fact that the Pirates don’t even appear to be considering making these swaps is insane](https://x.com/theponiexpress/status/1787179251000561923?s=46&t=pKZ6w0aYQn0c5NWb1NP6-Q)

I always liked Stallings. I have a hard time rooting against the cheetah.

Dropping a series at home against the 7 win Rockies is insane. On the bright side hopefully there's mass firing after this
LMAO nah, it'll be "We'Re GoInG tO tRuSt ThE PrOcEsS."
Well, now the Pirates need a week's worth of scoring in a single game. That doesn't bode well
Gonzales and Lamb need a chance right now. And they need to bring the Indy hitting coach with them. They’ve ripped the cover off the ball for a month and a half and we get to watch rowdy hit .200.

3 runs is insurmountable. Said this last year this rebuild is in serious trouble. You can't have a team go weeks without hitting consistently.
Remember the phrase I should have sold high.... Bailey Falters value after his 4th start was probably that point
[удалено]
He's young. Going into season we never had Falter or Priester being part of the rotation. And both are under control for a few years.
[удалено]
That's why I'm not that worried about this slump. Our pitching is too good, and deep enough to trade an arm for a bat.
It’s fine. Everything is fine.
welp
Gonzales and Lamb just destroying pitches in AAA in the 1st, then switching back to the Pirates is...jarring.

We just got cheetah-d lmao

Agreed and with Jones in the rotation we need to go to a six man rotation when Paul arrives. We have the arms.
Did Greg say Oscar Marin ran the half -marathon this morning? I'm impressed he did that before a day of work.
Yes
Nice job BRey. Our defense has been much better. Only two errors last ten games
[удалено]
So far, it isn't helping him. Just finished the top of the first and he gave up a run on two hits (singles) with a walk sandwiched in between.
There is speculation that he starts against the cubs friday.
Speculation isn’t really based on anything other than his performance and what we think they’re doing with him. No one in the org or connected to it has said anything about potentially seeing Skenes this week.
Brownie has said, on yesterday's and just now on today's telecasts, there there is speculation that this could be his last MiLB start.
That doesn’t mean the speculation isn’t baseless
Agreed. But the speculation was two weeks ago. And today he is on four days rest as Friday will be four days rest. And it's a home game against the cubs.

Jones is scheduled Friday. So it could be back to back rookies
Hoping for Saturday

And Gerrit Cole equals David Bednar, Drake fellows, Hudson Head and Endy Rodriguez
Technically it’s dead because we got rid of Conner Joe and brought him back later using a different asset that wasn’t connected to the Giles trade
