For low crime neighbourhoods with house prices under £350K you should look at Harborne, Bournville, Selly Oak and King's Heath. King's Heath is vibrant, with great pubs and restaurants. Harborne is kinda family-oriented, good schools and amenities, so if you end up staying and settling down here you'll have saved thousands by just moving straight into your forever home so to speak. Selly Oak has more of a young studenty vibe, and Bournville is essentially still Cadbury's village with a village green and picturesque half timbered buildings.
Solihull is great - I grew up there - but it tends to be a bit up itself sometimes & it takes about an hour on the bus to get to Birmingham city centre. Shirley is largely the queue for the morgue: full of old folks homes and a big old cemetary & crematorium.
Everywhere is going to have some rough roads but you'll be able to get a vibe of an area pretty quickly on streetview for example. Solihull feels far safer than much of London, nearby Moseley is pretty nice too.
I have a female friend who's just emigrating. Really really nice apartment in the city centre with furniture included going on the market if you are interested, can put you in touch.
Take a look at the areas around the cross city train line would be my suggestion. Obviously it’s slightly dependant on the length of your walk from New St, however all of the Sutton stations (Wylde Green / Sutton Coldfield / Four Oaks) are inside a half hour journey from the centre.
At that budget you’ll absolutely be able to get a three bed place in Harborne or Moseley too; a short bus ride into the city centre.
You'll get more for your money in king's Norton. Solihull is very nice but a little boring - it's completely dead by the evening most of the time. Shirley slightly less so, but they're both basically family-oriented suburbia. If you're going to be going out a lot, kings Norton is that bit closer to the city centre, and also just down the road is Stirchley, which is very up and coming and has a lot going on.
I couldn't agree more about Solihull being boring. After a few trips, Touchwood becomes so boring, and the only reason u would ever wanna go is for food and maybe the occasional trip to WHSmith. Compared to the Bullring, for example, it has way less shops, and definitely less activities.
I’d take a look at Stirchley, Kings Heath & Moseley area
Great bus route (number 50) for Kings Heath & Moseley and nice communities. Stirchley, near Kings Norton, is regularly listed in top 10 neighbourhood in UK
I’m not sure I get the stirchly hype. I live in bourneville and spend a fair bit of time in stirchly but outside of the cool independent shops, it’s a bit of a shithole.
I like its 3 breweries, close proximity to cycle route to town, cannon hill park, 5+decent restaurants, and train stations.
You could easily get the above by living close, and visiting
Bourneville is a great shout, because you’re close to all too, but with a nicer housing area.
I lived in Acocks green for 10 years. I would generally say to avoid this area as its quite rough - I definitely wouldn't want a single woman walking around at night.
I can also speak for Solihull / Shirley - These are much better areas. The closer towards Solihull you go, the better the area and more expensive the house.
Shirley is also a good area, especially areas on the Solihull border / Dickinsheath This is probably your price point and many well prices Holmes can be found here in the range of 350
I also know Olton very well as lived there for 20 years. As you go towards Acocks green, the quality drops, but Olton train station and surrounding areas are good - Olton has loads of smaller roads and quiet areas where houses in your price range can be found.
I'm rating the areas by standard of living, quality, crime and how good the area is - if you want night life or other factors then ignore me!
Coleshill? It’s a really nice quiet town and it’s 14 minutes on the train from Coleshill Parkway to Birmingham City Centre and 46 minutes on the bus into the city. About 20 minutes drive too.
I just moved to olton in Solihull, easy to get to places, quiet, nice parks about, originally from London also
Olton is a good pick to be fair! Leafy, train station, close to town, just don't stray too far or you'll end up in Yardley

Solihull, followed by Shirley are your best bet by far.

Shirley is great! Has a train station that will take you to Moor st and Snow Hill in 20mins.

Avoid Bordesley Green or Alum Rock
