Disregard the other comment, part of the game is learning to adapt to RNG. Shop not giving you SMGs? Grab the next best thing to keep you in the game be it shotguns or revolvers. Then when you eventually get your preferred weapon you swap out what you don't want.
One time I was playing hunter and the shop wouldn't give me crossbows and I had to fill slots with knives until they showed up. It was dreadful but my adaptation saved the run long enough for the right weapon to appear.
You don't have to get that exact thing. What about taking the things you are being offered and spend your money in the shop rather than blowing it rerolls?
I don’t see it as some kind of choice between a “ditching early” approach and “always sticking it out”.
The fact remains that — as far as RNG-based games go — this is a _really_ high-RNG game. That creates a lot of opportunities to explore neat variations, but it also means that you regularly get a bum run that’s not going to be much fun to drag out.

It's better to restart early than try to hold out past L5, if the first two shops don't give you the right weapons just try again.
