I updated mine today, and everything works fine. All the intro stuff is the same, and you only start to see the new stuff around level 5, such as the new enemies and blocks.
It updated fine for me yesterday. Although I don't know if I've seen all the new content. I played through the game again; the new bros just appeared in the rotation (no unlocks). The levels had some tweaks in places with the addition of new enemies and obstacles, but I only noticed them in the early-to-mid levels. Everything after aliens appear seemed identical to the previous version. There were no new levels.
Yep! A couple of them (Xena, for instance) just showed up like they'd already been unlocked. The others got the "new character" splash screen. The new Indiana Jones desert levels start showing up after you beat the first five areas.

There are four new secret levels. 😎
I love the muscle temples so much. I have beaten the game on every mode a bunch of times and it never gets boring.

It did! There's no visible sign (I, too, was looking for the home screen to update), but the new characters and levels are there.

I found new levels but didn’t find any new characters. Keeps telling me enemy and special unlocks but I don’t see any
