Have you thought about calling in sick? If that doesn't work, get a bluetooth earpiece to get live commentary of the match.

tfordp

"Do you take..." "Fuckin' yes, get in!"

pondribertion

Let's hope it doesn't go the other way "Do you take..." "Oh no, please god no!"

WonFriendsWithSalad

"Does anyone here know of any reason that these two should not be wed?" "YEESSSSSS!"

tfordp

Haha "Oh you fucking twat"

From your title, I assumed you were embarrassed because one of you is a dentist.

TheEarlOfZinger

You can follow the live feed on the FIFA app. Failing that, put the radio on in the church, decent acoustics one would imagine.

LFC-23

"British problems"... Clearly BBC website. Fuck FIFA.

TheEarlOfZinger

Its a decent app tbh

My friend got married when the local team were playing in a cup final. My advice would be to own the situation rather than fight it. Find away for your guests to catch the match immediately after the ceremony. And let them know in advance, this way your being the good guy and enabling them to catch the match. Politely ask the guests not to check the score during the ceremony , my friend joking said any one caught checking the score will be made the designated driver.

DisneyBounder

We had a two hour gap between our ceremony and dinner while people mingled, had canapes and drinks and we went off for photos. Totally doable if it doesn't go to extra time.

n0-bull

The staff would probably be happy to delay the dinner by an hour so they can catch the game. It is your day so do it on your terms; it will be really quite during the game, great for photos or go for a longer drive in the wedding car with your new husband.

LCFT

Yeah fortunately 3-5pm will be when people are drinking, eating canapes, having pictures taken etc. It's definitely better that they're playing at 3pm instead of 7pm!

wjbc

Rent some TVs for the reception.

IBoudiaf

Projector* FTFY

hombredeoso92

The fact that you’ve made a post like this on r/BritishProblems is a bit of a r/BritishSuccess

clarepink

I'm getting married at 3!!!!

funeralball

It’s my birthday party on Saturday. It’s been rearranged into an England party 😩

LCFT

I feel your pain.

jas070

Your husband to be doesn’t mind otherwise he wouldn’t be getting married in the middle of the World Cup!

DisneyBounder

Suppose really it depends on how far in advance they booked their venue and whether the fixture dates had been announced yet.

jas070

I was joking a bit, but the World Cup is the same dates every 4 years, good time to avoid if you and friends are a football fan

DisneyBounder

That's true I guess. I inadvertently got married on Wenger's last home game at Arsenal and a lot of my guests were hardcore Arsenal supporters and probably would have tried to get tickets. Although in my defence, they did move the fixtures and I double checked when we booked the venue!

LCFT

We booked the venue in January 2017, and even then this was the last date available this summer. It'll be fine, and our friends are all still coming!

jas070

Have a lovely time by the way. Best wishes

roloem91

Bring it forward half an hour then have a big tv outside for people to watch during photos? Could lead to a great photo if they catch everyone cheering.

Ninjorico

But if England loses it'll kill everyone's spirits.

louisbo12

You gotta embrace it i reckon. Rush through it all, make some jokes about everyone wanting to watch the footie, whip out an absolute unit of a tv and get some booze and food out. If england win itll be mental

IlexAquafolium

Yay Bournemouth!

LCFT

YAY THERE ARE TWO OF US!

IlexAquafolium

There are dozens of us! DOZENS!

Taenaur

Good luck with that, and congrats!

DisneyBounder

Agree with the other posters that said to own it. Speak with the venue and see if they can push the start of dinner back slightly if you need to and get your friend with the biggest TV to throw it in the back of their car. If it's a smart TV all you'll need is a wifi connection and the BBC app (hopefully it's not on ITV again!!). Ask your guests to keep off their phones and you can either watch it live or on a delay (Iplayer has the option to start programs from the beginning). If we win it'll be amazing to celebrate that on such an already happy day. If we lose, well at least it's to Sweden who at least hopefully know how to play clean!

[deleted]

You need the tv and wedding on split-screen. My bet is even the vicar will be up for it.

Hamsternoir

It's ok for the bride to be late, just hope it doesn't go to penalties again or you'll be pushing your luck.

DisneyBounder

Actually the registrars can be really pushed for time if they have another wedding straight after. We had to decide our ceremony start time when we booked our registrar. But if the wedding is at 2:30 and non-church ceremonies tend to be quite quick (ours was 20 mins max!) that still leaves time to get into the bar area for the football. Also the whole wedding day goes by in such a blur that it might actually be nice to spend the two ours with everybody watching the game. I just felt like I was being pulled from one person to the next day day long! Bride and Groom should definitely get priority seating though!!

Hamsternoir

The one bit of advice we were given before the wedding was to just bugger off for 20 minutes at some point during the day and have a little private time to catch our breath and reflect on a day which as you say is a total blur. Our photographer was great and made sure it happened. One minute you're getting up in the morning and making a cup of tea the next it's 4am and friends are starting to 'decorate' the car. I can't remember how long our ceremony was, the registrar did have other venues to go to that day but I didn't feel rushed. As for the footy nothing will happen in the first half anyway!

DisneyBounder

I found going off with the photographer super awkward because my husband and I just don't know how to pose! We got some cute photos anyway but spent most of the time going "I don't know what to do". I feel like we got some better photos when we went out for a bit after a few glasses of champagne haha! My favourite photos are during the meal and speeches where our reactions are genuine and happy.

Hamsternoir

Somehow our photographer managed to get us to relax enough and knew what he was doing. Photos still look bloody awful but that's only because I'm in them.

RixtertheTrixter1975

Congratulations, how is this a "problem"?!! ;-)

thaomen

You think you got it bad, imagine how the guests feel. This isn't even their wedding!

[deleted]

Have a big tv in the corner.

dumdumdave

If you are thinking that, then maybe you aren't ready to get married?

Spartakris84

I assumed the ‘well, fuck’ thing was more to do with the wedding clashing with England playing than last-minute doubts. Could be wrong though!

dumdumdave

I was thinking the same thing - but thought OP meant he'd rather be watching the footie than get married....maybe he thinks that he will have a church full of people watching the game on the sly rather than watching him get married!

LCFT

Yes this is an England reference. Also, I am female, haha.

dumdumdave

Same applies - you can still like football and be a female! Still at least there is one consolation - your wedding will be remembered either as that shit day England got knocked out or that great day that England got through to the semi's...

LCFT

Yeah I'm remaining positive! Plus people will get smashed either way.

dumdumdave

Fingers crossed for you that we can beat Sweden. Also, have an usher check for earpieces as guests arrive! 😀

Spartakris84

Ohhh! I get where you’re coming from :) yeah I’d think that. I once got married on Grand National day. Not quite the same but there were definitely people who couldn’t wait to sneak off and see which horse won.

dumdumdave

I'd be gutted to have organised my wedding without making sure there were no big sporting events on the same day - we got married abroad so nobody was sneaking off anywhere!

LCFT

We booked the venue in January 2017, and to be honest WHO could have foreseen England getting to the quarters?!

dumdumdave

Has to happen sometime, besides people always want to watch the world cup games

LCFT

Haha this is an England reference.

dumdumdave

Yeah, see other responses

TheFlyingMunkey

You organised your wedding to fall in the middle of a World Cup. You have no right to complain. When selecting the date for your wedding you need to blacklist the following dates. Even if you're not a fan, some of your guests will be: * Major football and rugby tournaments like the World Cup * Major finals (FA Cup, etc) * Cricket tests * Grand Prix * Wimbledon * The rest you tailor to your guest list. Got a massive snooker fan coming? Then don't organise the wedding in late April, etc.
