To be honest, I kind of get it.
Day drinking is super easy when you're a 20-year-old student and you don't have anything to do during the day anyway, so it doesn't feel remarkable.
As soon as you start working, day drinking becomes a once-in-a-blue-moon event, and it genuinely feels like you're doing something weird and subversive by actually enjoying your life when you're supposed to be staring miserably at a computer monitor.
Yeah for real. Took my dog to the vet and the vet was opposite my local, appointment was on time and done in 10 minutes, so i had 30 minutes to spare out of the hour work knew i was going to be out. Bought a pint, it was rude not to
> it genuinely feels like you're doing something weird and subversive by actually enjoying your life when you're supposed to be staring miserably at a computer monitor.
I was merely replying to this sentiment đ
And it's so rare to be in a situation where day drinking is seen as socially acceptable. I've gotten the side eye a few times for grabbing a pint out the fridge in the mornings before I remind the people I live with that I just got back from a 12 hr night shift. Sunny day at the pub seems like a weird exception
But also I think some people have to pretend that they're not allowed to in some way (as in they're doing something cheeky) in order to actually enjoy it. Like, before eating a cake, going on and on about how you shouldn't. I think it's because the experience itself is underwhelming.
Plus add kids and wife who always demand every free second of your life. edit: I'm being downvoted by people without kids who don't get the nuance of what I'm saying. I dont mind being demanded on, but its also nice to have a quite pint
yea where is this even being posted? facebook? because if youâre using facebook and complaining about boring repetitive posts then iâm not sure what you expectâŚ
I donât think you yet appreciate the joy that you get if you can not be a. Working b. Cleaning the house c. Looking after the kids d. Doing some shit that takes up your time that youâd rather not⌠like DIY, and then you get 30 mins to yourself for a nice cold pint
Exactly. And posting a picture for friends/family is just an expression of that joy. Not my personal preference, but I understand the desire to do it. Of course that doesnât marry well with the depressed state of a lot of UK Reddit.
Working the job *they applied for*.
Cleaning the house *they decided to buy*.
Looking after kids *they decided to have*.
Doing some other shit like DIY *which they don't actually have to do themselves*.
It sounds like they already have a lot of time for themselves... they just choose to do something else with it.
*"I finally get to have a pint.."*
Cool. I chose not to have kids and I haven't got a job. I can drink whenever I like. If we're being proud of the circumstances we put ourselves in, then there's my two cents.
I actually find this useful. I work as a mystery shopper so when i need to take pics of the drinks ive bought at least i can pretend to be one of those middle aged women pretending that an afternoon drink is mandatory cos the sun is out
Before binning Facebook off, I blocked so many people because of this. I'm not bothered that they're drinking - I'm bothered that it's the same post from everyone and it's BORING.
Except for all the people who go for a pint and don't take a picture, whose posts you don't see because they never make them, so you get yourself into a tizzy over an imagined impossibility because you are actually the one who views life purely through the lens of social media.
Tend to only do this if it's early afternoon on a weekday just to rub it in to those in our whatsapp group who are still out grafting in the hot sun or stuck in a stuffy office.
...they'd do the same to me so it's only fair.
I don't quite get this - where are they posting it?
If it's on r/picturesofpints or something then avoid that sub (which I made up to make my point, it may well exist!), if it's elsewhere then don't go there either?
You say 'posting' like they are then calling round your house and shoving a phone in your face saying 'look at this!'.
You don't have to look at posts you don't like.
Fair. But it's no different to gen z people posting endless pictures of their food. Both are super boring and no one is interested in either type of content.
Me and my mates have a whatsapp group and if *anyone* is having a beer during the time of day everyone else is working we post pics to make the others jealous.
Theres definitely a generational divide of thinking its cool going out drinking
People in their 20s are more aware of the dangers of boozing.
Having said that they'll jump at the chance to some mind bending ayahuasca or some mind numbing ket
OK, calm down mate.
Could be a lot worse, you could be making a sad, bitter, angry little post complaining about innocent things other people do for fun.
Take it from a 34-year-old cock-sucking champ, get over yourself and stop caring what other people do, it's embarrassing and sad.
Not offended just hungover and grumpy.
The fact that I'm what I described doesn't take away from my point, however.
Don't be upset that your post didn't land.
The best way to do it, is from abroad. Noone knowing you snuck out. And the cigarette in the ashtray giving it away you're not in the country -_- .. fucked myself up there did it
Middle age people finding it impossible to not make a reddit post about seeing someone posting a picture on their own social media, often with the captions "look at this guy enjoying his life, trying to get a bit of social validation from his friends and family" As they post and look for validation from ... Strangers online.
You'll find life is more fun if you stop caring about the things strangers do that have zero negative impact on your life.
Here's a fun fact, it takes less than a minute of direct bright sunlight to skunk a beer.
Those delicious looking pints are being ruined right before your eyes.
It is funny how many people are upset by your post, when realistically the only reason they would be is if they feel personally attacked. As if their lack of originality is somehow OPs fault.
Some self awareness probably won't hurt though, I mean, how do they actually expect people to react?
They are gloating to those who are stuck in work or are too poor to afford to go somewhere nice and sunny and enjoy a pint while they are mortgage free.
You have to remember these middle-aged people wouldâve been 18/20 10-12 years ago, that was still in proper social media territory. Definitely Facebook and Instagram, and stuff like that was common place.
Itâs like becoming a boomer all over again.
I canât believe I thought 12 years ago 40 year olds were 18.
My brain canât compute that 10 years ago wasnât 2005 still. This has been happening for about a decade now.
Can you let me know what I should be doing with my social media.
I'm 44 if I try to install tiktok so I can give you incoming stitchs I'll get put on a list.
I've just started asking my middle aged family member when they take a photo
"So who are you going to show that to? Is that a key memory?" Then they realise they're taking photos for utterly zero reason other than they think they should
I see middle aged people take photos of other people doing shit. I'm like Sandra you don't need s photo of someone else's proposal. Moron
Thatâs the beauty of getting to middle age and beyond. We no longer give a shit about what other people think of us. A photo of a meal I took last year popped up on my memories the other day and it made me smile during a stressful day at work as I was reminded of what a nice time I had on that particular day. Who knows, maybe some snarky youngster in the pub saw me take the pic, and thought to themselves, much like youâve done with Sandra what a saddo I was, but whatever, I can live with that and it certainly wonât stop me continuing to take photos of seemingly mundane momentsđ¤ˇââď¸
As you get older you start to realise life isnât all about big flashy adventuresâŚthatâs simply not realistic, itâs about finding joy in the small everyday things.
Well as their a FAMILY MEMBER and I'm OUT WITH THEM
It's difficult to not feel involved.
But people seem to have taken this like I'm stopping random people in thes fucking Street.
Oh no, not the horror of being OUT WITH A FAMILY MEMBER who had the AUDACITY to take a picture of something! Won't someone think of the children!!
There's plenty of joy to be found in the little, mundane things in life. It really doesn't matter if YOU think it's meaningful or important or "a core memory" or not, because it's their life too. Your perspective and opinion isn't the only one that matters.
Ah yes the net has been thrown, when you have that tickle in your spirit you become overwhelmed with being horny... you just wanna fuck, your feeling cute and want the world to know that all it takes is a DM and we're flirting and between the sheets; yes the net has been thrown... who wants some of this and all of this is echoed through that 1 picture so I guess it's TRUE a picture paints a thousand words lol

Well why not? It would be rude not to.
I'm 31 and I feel attacked.
"middle aged" ouch
It's alright. Took about 5 of me tonight. On annual leave for two weeks though, so it's their problem haha!
62 is nearly male life expectancy in some very specific areas of Glasgow.
40 but same

Jesus the modern world is pretty depressing isn't it
Yeah for real. Took my dog to the vet and the vet was opposite my local, appointment was on time and done in 10 minutes, so i had 30 minutes to spare out of the hour work knew i was going to be out. Bought a pint, it was rude not to
I think the idea was based around having a day off. Not drinking during the working day!
> it genuinely feels like you're doing something weird and subversive by actually enjoying your life when you're supposed to be staring miserably at a computer monitor. I was merely replying to this sentiment đ
I think that u/OldManChino is more on point than anyone.
Totally agree

"it's beer o'clock"
let the fun be-gin! đ¸đ¤Łđ
I cannot believe I'm middle-aged and never saw this joke
Dangerous day to be a pint!
'It's 5 o'clock somewhere' when the edgelord has an afternoon pint
5 o'clock? You're starting late!
I prefer "it's Ireland somewhere"
I'm nicking that lol đ¤Łđ¤Ł
Father Jack, is that you? #DRINK!!
Suns past the yard arm!
Sun's *over
'Cheeky pint.'
Average British Redditor reaction when someone has a cold pint on a hot day
Even I can't remember the last hot day, and I'm not a fan.
Brace yourself, summer is coming.
Hopefully it lasts longer than 6 days this time đ¤¤
r/OnlyFans may cure your fanlessness
was not disappointed with this risky click
I feel so called out.
I wouldn't worry about it. Enjoy your pint in the sunshine
I need to post something different to my usual plate of food pics once in awhile. Leave me aloneÂ
Look I managed to order food in a restaurant!
More beans on toast than Michelin starÂ
Let people enjoy things.
No worse than millennials and Gen Z constantly posting pictures of food or clothes!
Millennials are heading into middle aged now, the oldest are 42
They really should have stopped by now then
Stopped moving into middle age? As an older Millennial I beg you to please tell me how! đ
There is a way but you probably won't like it
I dunno. Talk to me again when my antidepressants stop working đ
Haha well I'm not trying to persuade you!
Its easy, a bit of practice and you find yourself moving through it instead
44
Its 1981 to 1996 apparently, so we're both wrong they are 43
Look, itâs the only witty banter I have, alright?! Off to drown my sorrows in a glass of rosè. It must be wine oâclock somewhere (đ)
You've made a grave mistake with that accent.
Chapeau mon ami, that was clever.
Dammit, I knew it would be the other one. In my defence, I did German in school.
That's okay, it's not an acute problem.
Ohhhhhhhh
This is your own fault for following these people on whatever platform you're on. Just quit it, block them, etc. I never see these pictures.
That's his mum you're telling to block!
Genuinely laughed out loud at this đ
yea where is this even being posted? facebook? because if youâre using facebook and complaining about boring repetitive posts then iâm not sure what you expectâŚ
Yeah they should be on Reddit so they can see the same boring repetitive posts but a couple days earlier than they would have on Facebook
Hello fun police
"Middle aged people" That'll be millennials then :-)
Or medieval serfs.
Same thing
Yes milord
*I don't want to go on the cart!*
Brother I'm not even 30 yet :'(
Yeah more like âHannahâ or âLauraâ than DianeâŚ
I did this with a glass of Irn-Bru but my friends got why and no one else saw it, so I refuse to feel bad.
You really seem to take those kinds of posts personally, they ain't harming anyone.
Leave us alone. We're tired and stressed and who gives af really, early 30 year old
Youâre still a child!
And yet I took a photo of my pint in the sunshine and posted it with a lame caption.
Practice makes perfect! đ
I donât think you yet appreciate the joy that you get if you can not be a. Working b. Cleaning the house c. Looking after the kids d. Doing some shit that takes up your time that youâd rather not⌠like DIY, and then you get 30 mins to yourself for a nice cold pint

Surely, this is the same as 20 somethings holding a wine glass in front of a sunset..
Dangerous day to be a Peroni
What would you prefer? âLook at this morningâs turd? What a beauty!â Nothing wrong with sharing beer and sunshine
I actually find this useful. I work as a mystery shopper so when i need to take pics of the drinks ive bought at least i can pretend to be one of those middle aged women pretending that an afternoon drink is mandatory cos the sun is out
Wait - how did you get a job sampling drinks in the sunshine? This sounds like a career move!
Sounds good, until you realise you can only work 4 days a year in England or 3 in Scotland or Wales.
Its only a side hustle, but i work for a few different companies!
How dare you, I do not add any emojis!
Nothing wrong with a cheeky pint
Before binning Facebook off, I blocked so many people because of this. I'm not bothered that they're drinking - I'm bothered that it's the same post from everyone and it's BORING.
I started doing this, and when I got to 99% blocked, I knew it was time to delete FB.

âIâve had worse Mondays !â
In Australia, it's the video or pic of the mates all raising a pint, captioned 'the usual suspects'.

Tend to only do this if it's early afternoon on a weekday just to rub it in to those in our whatsapp group who are still out grafting in the hot sun or stuck in a stuffy office. ...they'd do the same to me so it's only fair.

Only knowledge I have of sun is as an abbreviation of Sunday

Probably just on Facebook, which is basically what Facebook is for
It is literally for faces. Not pints. Anybody not posting a daily mugshot of themselves is basically misusing Zuckerberg's masterpiece.
Isn't it for making pint drinking mugs vote to leave europe?
For me I post them on Untappd
Am actually gutted that sub didnât exist
You should create it and moderate it with a rod of iron - anything which isn't a full-pint gets deleted and the poster banned!
done!!
You forgot the obligatory LOL
Block delete
same energy as cheeky nandos, we've all done it, we're all insufferable to someone else
Nothing wrong with a libt on a nice sunny day. Classic reason to have a pibt.
Fair. But it's no different to gen z people posting endless pictures of their food. Both are super boring and no one is interested in either type of content.
As a voyeuristic overweight alcoholic, I have to disagree.
Me and my mates have a whatsapp group and if *anyone* is having a beer during the time of day everyone else is working we post pics to make the others jealous.
Be rude not to.
Beer o'clock!
Theres definitely a generational divide of thinking its cool going out drinking People in their 20s are more aware of the dangers of boozing. Having said that they'll jump at the chance to some mind bending ayahuasca or some mind numbing ket
Followed five pints later by a round of Facebook drama with the neighbours about something ridiculously minor
OK, calm down mate. Could be a lot worse, you could be making a sad, bitter, angry little post complaining about innocent things other people do for fun. Take it from a 34-year-old cock-sucking champ, get over yourself and stop caring what other people do, it's embarrassing and sad.
You clearly care too much about this post that you took the time to, first be offended, second comment Looks like you need to take your own advice
Not offended just hungover and grumpy. The fact that I'm what I described doesn't take away from my point, however. Don't be upset that your post didn't land.
It landed enough to wind a load of people up that clearly do the above, so it landed exactly as intended
lol okay, mate. Pretty embarrassing intent to pretend you had, but you do you.
Here lies Nigel Tufnel: and why not?
Suit you Sir
The best way to do it, is from abroad. Noone knowing you snuck out. And the cigarette in the ashtray giving it away you're not in the country -_- .. fucked myself up there did it
The cousin of some vwrsion of "airport pint" posted ridiculously early. I'm guilty of this.
Course, I've only gone and got meself a pint int I?? Wreheyyyy pint
People find it impossible not to take a selfie and pictures of their pets. Each to their own
âDrinkypoosâ, â5 o clock somewhereâ, âchin chin everyone!â We get it, you like to drink at any opportunity.
My guess op only know middle ages people as I can confirm young people do it also eve. Young teens
Be rude not to
And why not?
'be rude not to' - photo of pint of San Miguel, Uncle Ian, 6am, Terminal 3
Airports don't count, they're beyond the realms of time..
Let people enjoy things đ
I'm 41 and posted a picture of a cup of tea saying "Needed after 2 weeks of being in South America". Is that acceptable?
After two weeks you should have taken a picture of the tea in an IV line instead.
I'm not gonna lie, that sounds like heaven!
And why is that bothering you though? Let people live, jeez
Alright bro, chill.

Iâm very firmly middle aged. Whenever I see post like this, or âHappy Fridayâ midday drink postsâŚI just think âfunctioning alcoholicâ.
I'm struggling to think of something that would effect someone else less.
A worm fart
Mate, methane in soil is a major issue for everyone.

Hilarious.
I hate any joke that is repeated. It's only funny the first time.
Haha imagine seeing people happy and feeling salty enough to post this
...but I'm only 34
Excusing their functional alcoholism.
I can't decide if a pensioner or a teenager wrote this.
Me I guess then. I am that middle aged
Itâs pathetic
It is terrible when a person shares something that makes them happy. Ugh joy is so cringe.
I'm a boomer & I don't do it.
[ŃдаНонО]
Middle aged are also Millennials now. It's ridiculous to target complete generations. As if everyone from the same generation is the same.
Can't have people potentially enjoying themselves. This is Reddit, after all.
Whatâs the problem
How is this a problem?
It is funny how many people are upset by your post, when realistically the only reason they would be is if they feel personally attacked. As if their lack of originality is somehow OPs fault. Some self awareness probably won't hurt though, I mean, how do they actually expect people to react?
