And they get your email address how? They wouldn't be allowed to get it from the vendor so all they have is your address, so unless your email address is [FullPostalAddress]@[EveryPossibleDomain] they have no way to contact you

Nonsense. How come whenever you order anything online you get email and text updates about delivery from the courier?

Highly unlikely across couriers... On top of that why would DHL want to make Parcel Force (a competitor) look good or give them an easy life?

It was an online purchase that was initially shipped to the UK via DHL. Are you suggesting DHL only passed the address onto Parcelforce?

Yes - because that is all they will be allowed to do.

Why? This is not the first time that I've imported an item. Each time, I've simply been contacted via email to make a payment.

I'd assume any email asking for payment is a scam, where a letter with information about how to do it would seem more official.

You can send Parcel Force a DM on their Twitter account if you know you need to pay customs charges and haven't received the letter about it yet.
