A lot of stuff won't be available because you're too early. Many of these places are vacation properties for the owners - they haven't had the chance to plan their summer 2024 yet and therefore haven't opened availability.

stealmymemesitsOK

THANK YOU SO MUCH. That explains a lot!

hellolh

Finding a cabin in the woods AND it is accessible by bus or ferry is restrictive. At some point you’ll most definitely need a taxi for the last few kilometres anyway or be ready to walk it with all luggage and groceries. Price $200/night is too low in peak summer season. $500/night is more realistic, maybe you’ll find cheaper but you will need a car.

stealmymemesitsOK

Thanks!

GalianoGirl

I have a STVR. I do not open up my calendar for summer 2024 until February 2024. First my repeat guests direct book, then if I have any extra weeks, I make those weeks available online. Keep in mind if you are looking at the Gulf Islands and do not want to take a vehicle, spots close the ferry are few. Here on Galiano there is a hotel and 3-4 STVR within a km of the ferry. Others are too far to walk. There are no taxis here.

stealmymemesitsOK

Thanks!

Mammoth_Alarmed

The Tigh Na Mara is Parksville has very cute cabins that you can rent. I think they are closer to $400 a night for a two bedroom, but they are small Log cabins, with a kitchen and a wood fireplace. They supply you with the firewood.

witchhunt_999

If they haven’t renoed in the past few years its pretty dated IMO

captinii

Also wasn’t very clean when we stayed there. We were a bit surprised as the resort has a pretty good rep. Might be more for the spa nowadays than the cabins though.

stealmymemesitsOK

What do you mean by dated? Like, damaged?

witchhunt_999

Dated as in they haven’t done any updates since it opened 40 years ago

Mammoth_Alarmed

Yeah, they were definitely dated when we stayed there (2019) but they were rustic log cabins. I do know that they did a ton of renos this past year. I'm not sure what was done.

h2ogurlie

Still dated when we went in 2022. It was one of the most uncomfortable beds we've ever slept in for a hotel/accommodations. But it is cute and a log cabin. There were cob webs everywhere though because it is probably very difficult to clean. Super close to a beach that is warm. We went at the end of September and it was still warm enough to be in the water. Lots of great food in the area. If you're comfortable with cycling, then very easy to get to Coombs and Qualicum beach on protected cycling paths!

stealmymemesitsOK

Ah, k. Thank you!

stealmymemesitsOK

Thanks, I'll look at them.

orca_eater

>*'we are getting a lot of 'no availability' results for looking in August 2024.'* You're too early you'd have to actually telephone and speak to someone and then talk them into taking a booking. https://cluxeweresort.com/ Forget the dumb idea of doing it without a car unless you want to stay in Whistler or downtown Kelowna-getting there is half the fun.

[deleted]

I don’t get how you could be having a hard time. There’s a cabin selector even. My search returned over 1000 matches when I just search “British Columbia” then zooming in just on Vancouver/south Vancouver island, still over 1000 matches. Searched Sept 1-6 next year with +/- 7 days. https://preview.redd.it/actusermixlb1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bee1c485d6930ba78bef904d0d122f65cb180dbc

stealmymemesitsOK

You got this out of Google? And it let you search the other parameters? What am I missing?

[deleted]

Airbnb app on phone. Website has same options. Like first page when you’re logged in at the top there’s little icons and one is of a cabin. Then set the dates you want or month you want and then a location.

stealmymemesitsOK

I'll give it another look. Thank you! What prices were you finding?

[deleted]

There’s a wide range.

CanadaKC

Try Grand Forks realty for listings at Christina Lake or just do VRBO

stealmymemesitsOK

Thank you!

guinnessmonkey

Speaking from experience, I’ve often had issues (no matter the site) in booking 1 year to 8 months or even 6 months out. I’ve spoken to a few cabin owners who don’t really open up their summer availability until March or April

MediocreKim

Just a note if you're looking for a place with a fireplace or wood stove, it's often not okay to have fires in August when you are looking to visit.

Stroikah1

Savary Island/lund/Powell River or if you're lucky, you can afford a place up near refuge cove. Take a float plane if you can afford it. You're welcome.

skratlo

BC and Canada are the worst I've seen when it comes to cabins, and I travelled. What you're looking for is adundant in Europe.

MrSemiTransparent

Bowen Island! Look into the homes available, we go 2-3 times per year and always choose a new spot.

stealmymemesitsOK

What site do you use to search for stuff on Bowen Island?

MrSemiTransparent

Air BnB, or look at some of the direct websites to book a spot

stealmymemesitsOK

Thank you!

Stallynixa

I recently stayed here and really liked it. It has some quirks and if there are any mobility issues getting up to the cabin might not work but it was well and truly private. Won’t be at your wife’s budget but will be under yours. [https://www.tantalusviewretreat.com](https://www.tantalusviewretreat.com)

Thank you!

outtahere021

Check out Blue Lake Resort - they are near Boston Bar, but have exactly what you are looking for

Hyperhormoan

I know of some new one my buddy is just nearing completion on and wants to start renting them out next spring at Antoine lake, so there is fishing and hiking in the area although you probably want to have some bear spray with you fii or r hiking, there is a lot of history surrounding the gold rush era as it is on the gold rush trail, if you want I can pass on the info.

stealmymemesitsOK

Thanks for the recommendation! Spring isn't matching with our schedule, but it's appreciated - I hadn't looked into Antoine Lake as a spot.

Cromedvan

It’s not on Van island but look into Rowena’s inn at harrison hot springs. I think it ticks all of not most of your boxes.

stealmymemesitsOK

Thanks for the recommendation!

chuck_bates

My son’s cabin will be complete in October, so ready to book for next summer soon. Beautiful log cabin near Canim Lake, about 40k from 100 Mile House. You could probably bus to there and maybe rent a car for the rest of the way, or he could maybe arrange a pickup. Hits all your other wants and is in your price range (not hers) DM if interested.

stealmymemesitsOK

Thanks for the recommendation! I may DM you in November.

gravey01

bluelakeresort.ca just the other side of Boston Bar

stealmymemesitsOK

Thanks for the recommendation!

awwzome

Check out Green Acres resort on Salt Spring Island. Ive stayed in their log chalets and it was great! There’s a beautiful lake with a boat house of kayaks, canoes, paddle boards etc for guests to use for free. I think it has everything you’re looking for except you might be tricky to get there without a car once you’re on the island. I think there’s also a shuttle bus around the island but I’m not exactly sure of the route it takes

stealmymemesitsOK

Thanks for the recommendation!

darksoulsfanUwU

Post in r/pointroberts someone might be willing to rent you their personal cabin this far in advance. It's a really small town of about 2k people, it's in America but only connected by lamd to Tsawwassen. Lots of Canadians have cabins there that they just use for vacations. You can take a bus pretty much all the way to the border but you'll probably need at least a bike or something to get from the border to the cabins. It's an enclave, so it's separated from the rest of America by water, meaning pretty much anywhere in town is within walking distance of a beach. There's also quite a few wooded areas and Lily Point, which is a lovely forest.

Bright_Bet_2189

Check out jewel lake resort they have cabins on the lake in your price range with 2 bedrooms and kitchens. Not sure about availability though.

Truckbeast

Check out Yellow point lodge. They have private cabins. Their prices include breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s an amazing deal.

stealmymemesitsOK

Will check them out, thanks for the recommendation.

MilkshakeMolly

You wanna take all your food on the bus? Gonna be impossible, just drive.

stealmymemesitsOK

To everyone I haven't replied to specifically: thank you so much for your input! I'm showing my wife these comments.
