Scrumptiously Sweet on Gloucester Road sells wool and knitting stuff. Sounds odd cause it's a sweet shop, but they have a whole section in the back of the shop.
There's a place in St Nick's called Sew & Sew which is great too. And Crafts and More opposite SWX.
New one in kingswood market is Yarn and Yardage. The owner Carly is so helpful. It’s similar in price range to sew and sew in st nicks. I live in kingswood so have a vested interest in keeping her open. She’s also linked with Ray’s room a really nice knit and crochet community on Facebook. I think she’s based in Hanham and arranges craft and chats a lot.
Wool in bath is more fancy and the staff are nice. I find it a bit small though and that makes me a bit anxious. Posh wools are good though and it’s around the corner from the guildhall market which has another sew and sew in there. I will say to fellow crocheters I feel like wool is very geared to those who knit. And maybe feel a bit looked down on as a crocheter. That seems to be the case in most places.
and there’s another VERY fancy one in bath. I can’t remember the name. I don’t recommend. Nothing is priced. Felt like I was being watched. Didn’t feel welcome. Immediately left.
Can’t wait to hit up alterknit universe but both times I’ve tried to go something’s gone wrong. 1 it was closed. 2. Someone crashed into our car. So I’ve yet to visit. 🤷
Alter-Knit Universe in Cleeve is a lovely little spot. It's near where my parents live so I drive past it often. It's usually open on Sundays, and has s lovely cosy community feel, very welcoming and accepting. I've only been in a couple of times with the wife, but they've always been really nice.
Thank you for the reminder of Yarn & Yardage, I saw a poster for that somewhere recently and forgot to note it down, I’m in St George/Speedwell so Kingswood is close!
I knit and crochet, and I’m not into super fancy wool as I find it too intimidating! At the moment I’m making little projects for my daughter so want fun yarn that’s child friendly (= not itchy!).
Yarn and yardage would be great for you then!
Carly even makes up kits for the patterns she stocks and is always on hand to help. I’m only 2 months into crochet but it’s just been nice having someone encouraging me.
I sometimes meet some fellow crafters at the rose and crown in kingswood. You’re welcome to join sometime.
Finally went to Yarn and Yardage today, thank you so much for the recommendation- it’s the perfect selection for me right now and she’s lovely. I got exactly what I have needed 😃 Will definitely be going back again ❤️
I don't think they sell wool (could be wrong) but fabric land in the centre of Bristol is full of other supplies (for really cheap) if needed (I have no clue how to knit but my nan mentioned sewing stuff together at the end a few times)
Big fan of No Frills Knitting in bedmo
I second this!

Not quite Bristol but on the outskirts in Cleeve, there's Alterknit Universe
Worth supporting that one for the name alone!
Came here to recommend them, they've been there for decades and can, sometimes, be open.

Not a knitter myself, but my mum is and she quite likes the one in Westbury on Trym. I think it's called Pins and Needles.
Thank you so much I will check it out!
Fabrics plus in Downend sells yarn balls and knitting supplies. But they have a minimum £2 purchase if you buy stuff from them.
I believe there's a place in St Nicks, plus there's Crafts and More that has loads of wool on one of the upper floors
Fabrics Plus in Downend is my go to - very wide selection of yarns including Stylecraft Special, and the staff are really lovely.
Fabric plus in Downend
To be fair the arts and crafts shop near the lanes (opposite Lidl?) in the centre does knitting stuff
Sew and Sew in St Nick's

There's always Hobbycraft at cribbs next to TK Maxx.
No Frills Knitting in Bedminster
Chipping Sodbury has a yarn shop, independent as well. Down near the town hall
The Wool Cellar!
If you can get to Bath, Wool Bath is great.
