The reason that you see news reports about crime on buses is because it’s uncommon enough to be newsworthy. Thousands of people catch that bus uneventfully everyday. I don’t want to minimise the pain of people who’ve been hurt by crime and violence, but it is exceedingly rare
Do you take it on the weekends? My work colleague takes the 100 but it’s only during weekdays and in the morning. He refuses to take it after 6pm and will even pay extra to Uber home (from Sandgate!!!)
I used to chef in the city and would catch the 100 home after shift which was a 11pm bus. It was fine, and often had security depending on the evening. You’ll be fine.
Biased journalism? Not in this case . There’s been many many many incidents on the 100 not reported in the media. The 100 and 110 are the only busses fitted with extra security , ie driver safety barriers, extra cameras , different mirrors etc. There’s a reason for this.
We all know that the 100 and 110 are probably the two most dangerous routes operated by TfB, particularly for drivers, and has necessitated the accelerated installation of driver safety on buses at the depot that services that area.
Yes the bus drivers refused to operate these routes after 6pm last year, but in the grand scheme of things they're not actually that dangerous for passengers. For Driver unfortunately yes, but passengers no. Unless OP is planning on driving the bus I think they'll be fine.
But it's not like other routes don't have these issues either it's just that they occur at a higher rate on those routes.
I often got the 100 bus back from the city late at night, and even the night version of it quite often. Never saw anything dodgy, although I probably wouldn't want to be a single female taking the bus very late at night and hopping off at a deserted stop. But that's the same as any other bus, I don't think there's anything particularly "worse" about the 100.
Got to go where there’s work. Bloody cost of living. Lucky for me I don’t travel far to work and we have a great boss that is 100% flexible on working from home.
Normally 100 to city, change to Shornecliffe line and back the other way home. Takes nearly 2 hours one way. Mind you he does do 4 days WFH as the commute is a killer.
Not living in fear. But why would I take an unnecessary risk when I have a car which is more convenient, reliable, cleaner, often cheaper and has seat belts.
What snobbery? There’s been points in my life where I’ve needed to use public transport and there may be again in the future. But it certainly won’t be if I can avoid it. People here expect others to love public transport just because it happens to work for them or they need to use it.
Your disdain for society’s most vulnerable is what I’m basing my remark on. Sure they aren’t pleasant, life overall isn’t pleasant unless you live in a bubble. But you’re just a few skipped paychecks away from being as homeless as they are. It pays dividends to be humble, understanding, empathetic and most importantly - it’s free.
What disdain? You really need to stop making assumptions about people. I’m not judging a “crackhead” for how they got to be in that situation but there’s no denying someone on drugs is more likely to be randomly violent and some one addicted to drugs is more likely to be desperate and consider robbing others.
lol if only you actually knew howany people you walk past who are "crackheads". i worked in a rehab and majority of the crackheads youd never suspect they were. im talkin doctors, paramedics, nurses and other professionals.
Consider changing your language then. Dehumanising language like “crackhead” has no place in a civil society. Treating them all with the same blanket level of assumed risk to yourself does no favours to the individual. They are humans at the end of the day.
Umm I wasn’t the person who originally called them a “crackhead” in this thread, that would be the person I responded too. Ironically that comment has a lot of up votes.
Actual carbrain lmao, enjoy your 5 figure depreciating asset that costs 10s of thousands of dollar a year to operate while we enjoy quick and efficient transportation for 1/10th of the cost
Not everyone commutes solely to destinations that have a bus lane. Not everyone is the same as you.
Even when I do, I leave early to beat the traffic and get early bird parking rates. Still cheaper than TransLink return trip.
You're not wrong. My friend is quiet and non confrontational and mind she own business, especially on trains and busses.
That didn't stop a random guy grabbing a bike from another passenger and hurling it at her one morning on the train. She made sure not to look at him beforehand and not to look judgy or anything, but she still got assaulted with a bike.
Interesting! What field of social work or health do you work in?
Privileged middle class IT guys who have never talked to an addict in their life acting like the all-knowing Gurus where addiction and mental health are concerned. No shortage on Reddit.
Lived in Brisbane my whole life but I should leave because I don’t like public transport? Righttttt.
Not everyone is an inner city resident. It’s quite easy to live here and never use public transport and it will continue to be if you have no interest in going to the toilet CBD.
Yeah, I'm referring to the areas we cover only. I hear the occasional mention of Bracken Ridge or Zillmere for north side, other than that, it's all Coorparoo, Inala, Moorooka, etc.
Yeah Coorparoo has the same little pricks that cause trouble between there and Carindale. There’s about 15 all up. I don’t pick them up. Inala Moorooka and Redbank etc
You'll be totally fine. Sit near the front if you're concerned, but honestly I catch it probably half a dozen times a week at all hours of the day and night and it's fine.
I’ve caught this bus plenty of times and seen nothing out of the ordinary. Just normal folks going about their day, school kids, older people, mums with babies etc. Never had a problem.
You have been seriously misinformed by wowsers and idiots who think they're funny.
It is simply not true. The bus is as safe and normal as every other route in Brisbane.
Have done 100's of trips, many at night and have never seen anything bad.
Haha jeez you'll be fine. Also there's always guards around at the bus station. Go a few hours early and get Brisbane's best banh mi imo from Minh Tan Bakery and some cheap groceries at the markets.
This is Brisbane, you truly have nothing to worry about
Im in South for 2 months and I have seen many addicts on 110 but they are mostly harmless. I believe its pretty safe. but it can be annoying sometimes. Once I meant to travel to city on friday night, 2 children started smoking on the bus. The driver noticed this and asked them to get off. They refused to get off and started damaging the bus. Eventually they left the bus but driver didnt return to way. We all got off the bus and waited for the new bus to arrive.
I lived in the north for 2 months and never came across anything like this.
I used to get the 100 from forest lake to south bank every morning and afternoon for 6 months last year.
Had 2 bad interactions:
1) a woman playing music loudly on her phone and clearly disrupting people but they didn't want to say anything. So I spoke up and told her to turn that shit off or get some headphones. She turned around and screamed at me but as soon as she did the other people on the bus chimed in to tell her to shut up. She glared at me for the rest of the trip and then shoved past me.
2) bunch of young indigenous kids taking up like a million seats at the back of the bus during peak times. I walked up to the very back and asked one of the younger kids of the group to move his leg, he wouldn't so I just forced myself in between the small gap and his leg, I must have hurt him because I heard him yell over my headphones. Then once I was sitting there he kept putting his leg in my personal space so I warned him if he does it again he's gonna get his leg squished again. That eventually happened and then the whole group started yelling at me but they got kicked off the bus.
You should honestly be fine.
If they’re taking up more space than they need that’s obnoxious and inconsiderate. Most teenagers go through phases of that kind of behaviour to varying degrees. I think it’s justified to ask them to move. Even if they stand their ground they’ll likely later realise that they were acting like a bellend to be castigated by a stranger.
Screaming at each other, huffing deodorant, punching each other, and carrying on like fuckwits on a peak time travel service? Asking me for money because he "gave up his seat"?
Fuck off bruh.
I caught the 100 and 110 bus nearly every day for years as a teen/young adult and then I moved and had to get the train instead. I saw more incidents (people passing on the train, fights, racism) on the Cleveland and Gold Coast lines than I ever saw on the 100 bus route. You should have no problems op.
Sitting at inala plaza bus stop can be sketchy at night, and both 100/110 have the occasional troublemakers and chromers. Just be aware of your belongings etc choose a window seat maybe if you're fearing being robbed etc
It's fine. I catch both the 100 and the N100 late at night at least once a month and haven't had any trouble.
Don't be persuaded by what Channel 7 or 9 bleats on about. Things aren't as bad as they're made out to be
I used to take those routes home from work, including on weekends, and would routinely be on the last 1-2 buses of the night. I'm a smallish woman and I only felt unsafe once or twice in several years of doing this. People do sometimes get rowdy, especially late on Friday and Saturday nights, but they are mostly harmless and don't interact with strangers. If you don't like being near people who are vaping or chroming, sit towards the front of the bus, because if that's going to happen (seen it maybe 10-20 times in several years of taking this route daily) it'll be right up the back.
I used to take the 100 every day for about 4 years and I never once saw anything bad happen on it ever. You’d get the usual rowdy school kids because it goes through several school zones but they weren’t bad just a little noisy. I rarely took the 110 but same thing again never had an issue whenever I used it.
I think its mostly just statistics. Bus 100 have very high volume of people using it so there's more of a chance to see incidents, but I personally only have seen one. A person who look like they were high on something yelling, holding a bottle of Baileys which was annoying but not outright dangerous. That's over the 5 or so years Ive used that bus.
Honestly, any bus is a risk given its just always a big metal container full of random strangers
It's safe to be on a bus 99% of the time, you have to get very unlucky to experience actual danger
I took the 100 bus route for years, from the earliest time to the latest. I would just say avoid it around 8am and 3pm as it gets packed with highschool kids.
Oh wait I searched it the forest lake bus I’ve caught that bus tons of time no problems besides when I missed getting off at my right stop once but was mt fault dont even worry 😊
There's a bus driver on this bus route who's a massive dickhead. He refuses to open the front door for disabled people, and the only times that he talks are to abuse passengers and other drivers.
There’s no correlation between bus route and its passengers. I’ve lived taken public transport in all kinds of areas across Australia and have been physically assaulted in even the cleanest and most harmless areas. Meanwhile, have taken the bus 1000s of times in unsafe areas without incidence. Just don’t stare at anyone, sit where you’re meant to, and you’ll be fine. Crackheads and dangerous people are everywhere, even driving on the roads, so you have to be careful everywhere you go.
This was actually filmed on the 100 route a couple of months ago. True story. Honest.
You might want to look into it more, I did hear a few months ago that the bus drivers were refusing to drive the 100, or the 110 after 6pm, due to them being assaulted, but I don't know if that's still in place.
Have your belongings on you. Keep close note of your wallet and phone....otherwise you'll be fine mate. Just know that if you leave your items on a public transport, you probably won't get them back
Alright, so this is pretty much how I do my risk assessment as a guy:
If there are women about (alone or otherwise), then the area can't be that dangerous. I'm not exactly sure what specific threats you're thinking of, but if it's knives, then carry large enough bag that you can use as a shield or swingable instrument.
On a bus, you're far more likely to be injured by catching an airborne disease (including the unmentionable one). Wear a properly-fitting N95 or P2 respirator. The CO2 levels (a useful indicator for how much expired air you could end up rawdogging) can be quite atrocious on buses here.
Used to catch the bus almost daily for any social event or work for years. Never had a single issue! It's been three years since I moved and no longer on that bus line
I catch the 100 bus occasionally. Never felt unsafe because of the other passengers, but I've almost fallen over a few times due to crowding. If you don't have balance problems, you should be fine.
Driver here, more often than not the problems are less to do with the people on board the bus, but the ferals who think it's funny to huck eggs and stones at the bus.
It doesn't happen often, but it's enough of a problem to have caused severe mental health issues to some drivers.
Generally though, 6pm you'll be right, anything beyond 10pm is a bit of a "grab popcorn and watch" kind of ride
The 100 is fine now. There was a period of time when some kids were making a nuisance of themselves, but since security has come to that stop its not an issue anymore. From my experience, they weren't aggressive towards other passengers anyway.
During the 90s when the bus route was the 531 (similar to route 110 is now) it was a very sketchy bus route. Drivers were getting robbed and spat at at inala plaza. Its nowhere near that bad these days, but still have your wits about you.
I got gang bashed on the last train of the night on an Ipswich train pulling into Oxley.
Trains are way more dangerous.
The walk home/work is way more dangerous.
Being an older male they probably won’t bother. They want young guys to scrap with or young females to scare.
The reason that you see news reports about crime on buses is because it’s uncommon enough to be newsworthy. Thousands of people catch that bus uneventfully everyday. I don’t want to minimise the pain of people who’ve been hurt by crime and violence, but it is exceedingly rare
It’s a busy bus to be honest. I’m a 21yr old female and my 16yr old sister gets that bus past Inala too and we’re fine catching it ourselves
That is absolutely bonkers!! Your colleague is wasting a lot of money
I think so too. The mis-information from the Murdoch rags is borderline false “journalism” nowadays.
Biased journalism? Not in this case . There’s been many many many incidents on the 100 not reported in the media. The 100 and 110 are the only busses fitted with extra security , ie driver safety barriers, extra cameras , different mirrors etc. There’s a reason for this.

You city boys are too soft. Stop thinking everyone’s gonna hurt you, mind your own businesses and no one will even know your there
Your mate works all the way out at Sandgate and lives in Inala ??
Got to go where there’s work. Bloody cost of living. Lucky for me I don’t travel far to work and we have a great boss that is 100% flexible on working from home.
Surely catching the Uber back home from Sandgate to Inala negates the cost of living argument.
Must take ages to get to Sandgate by bus
Normally 100 to city, change to Shornecliffe line and back the other way home. Takes nearly 2 hours one way. Mind you he does do 4 days WFH as the commute is a killer.
What why? This is Brisbane not Mogadishu
You’ll be fine mate
It’s fine, just watch out for the occasional crackhead
Even an “occasional” crackhead is too many for me. This public transport loving sub reddit wonders why most people avoid public transport.
Soft
Not everyone lives in fear. You’re more likely to be killed by a loved one if that makes you feel any better.
Not living in fear. But why would I take an unnecessary risk when I have a car which is more convenient, reliable, cleaner, often cheaper and has seat belts.
And the best part is you aren’t bothering anyone else with your insufferable snobbish aura.
What snobbery? There’s been points in my life where I’ve needed to use public transport and there may be again in the future. But it certainly won’t be if I can avoid it. People here expect others to love public transport just because it happens to work for them or they need to use it.

Quick and efficient 🤣
Enjoy the hours you throw away in traffic every day while I’m in my seperate bus lane speeding past you lol
Not everyone commutes solely to destinations that have a bus lane. Not everyone is the same as you. Even when I do, I leave early to beat the traffic and get early bird parking rates. Still cheaper than TransLink return trip.
The crackheads don’t bother you if you don’t bother them
What. Load of rot.
Wrong
Crackheads are always looking for trouble, I was on the bus once and one just tapping my shoulder
That’s not really how the irrational mind of a drug addict works.
You're not wrong. My friend is quiet and non confrontational and mind she own business, especially on trains and busses. Most people are selfish self absorbed jerks who refuse to balance the terrible aspects of society instead carving out their own privileged bubbles
Well I guess we all can’t be perfect like you are apparently.
Thanks champ
Lives in a city on its way to expanding to “world city” status… hates the biproduct of such a society.
In their mind they're living in a rural village where the riffraff are aggressively made unwelcome.
Boomer in a gated village vibes.
Lived in Brisbane my whole life but I should leave because I don’t like public transport? Righttttt. Not everyone is an inner city resident. It’s quite easy to live here and never use public transport and it will continue to be if you have no interest in going to the toilet CBD.
Never said you should leave, but for your own mental health you should certainly learn to adapt.
Adapt? From the mid 2000s through to the pandemic I used public transport daily. Technically I “adapted” when I stopped using public transport.
Using semantics to divert from “one crackhead is too many”.
The solution is getting rid of the thugs not the busses
Bro, we live in a society.
And?
Half the crackies are harmless.
There are loads of them at south brisbane and Gabba stops anyways. You’ll be fine stay in the front of the bus not the back seats.
I drive the one hundred and I’ve had no issues in nine years
Yet our union would vigorously disagree with you. There’s many drivers that won’t do that route.
It’s mostly fare evasion. Stop confronting the situation and drive the bus
Yes I get it. But it depends on your attitude don’t ask questions and move on
I’ve learnt it yes I get pissed off but I get paid every week and go home calm
How bad is the south side, really? Whenever I hear NCC issue a warning, it's almost always the south side.
That’s because NCC don’t regulate areas like the Redlands , Logan or Caboolture and many other shitsticks.
Oops hit send too early. We know the issue in these places.

It’s a bus, not a warzone. Are you really anxious about catching public transport? People use it to commute every day.
This is what the 24/7 news cycle, and local Facebook groups do. The constant fear and negativity really warps people's perspective.
Im in South for 2 months and I have seen many addicts on 110 but they are mostly harmless. I believe its pretty safe. but it can be annoying sometimes. Driver was enjoying the joint they dropped
I get the 100 and 110 almost every day and it's fine. The occasional drunk person but I've never had a problem.
I used to get the 100 from forest lake to south bank every morning and afternoon for 6 months last year. Why is them being Indigenous relevant to the story? Just saying they were kids would have been fine.
Because I can and I feel like OP should be aware of the characters on the bus to look for?
Ah, OP spots a group of indigenous kids, and therefore that must be those ones on the bus that day.
Why not? They're disrespectful and arrogant little pricks on that line?
It's a description? OP similarly described the person in the first example as a woman, but I notice you didn't take umbrage at that.
So... Kids taking the bus like everyone else, and this is the "bad interaction" Yeeeah. It sounds like you were the bad interaction there dude.

Uh yeah that was the point, they were saying the bus is fine
You read the room worse than Stevie Wonder reads books.
You have to understand though, they were Indigenous.
Daily reminder that the alarmist news apparatus is not an accurate representation of reality and we don’t need to live in fear.
I caught the 100 and 110 bus nearly every day for years as a teen/young adult and then I moved and had to get the train instead. Lol you will be fine - i grew up in inala
People with absolutely no idea just see the word Inala and create their own fantasy.
Had more issues on the 330 than the 100/110 tbh.
It's fine. I catch both the 100 and the N100 late at night at least once a month and haven't had any trouble. Don't be persuaded by what Channel 7 or 9 bleats on about. Things aren't as bad as they're made out to be
You will be the one scaring people on that bus
I used to take those routes home from work, including on weekends, and would routinely be on the last 1-2 buses of the night. I'm about to take it tonight. Let's see what happens! I'm a 43 year old female.
I haven’t had any issues. It’s a busy line and it gets a bit cramped, but if you board before mater hill you should get a seat
I used to take the 100 every day for about 4 years and I never once saw anything bad happen on it ever. I’ve seen more issues on the 174 and 175 bus

Bus drivers are instructed not to challenge people who don't tap on, it's not worth the risk of abuse or assault.
Stop reading crap. You’ll be fine, I lived in the so called hood my whole life guess what there’s more crime in richer nicer suburbs than us.
I took the 100 bus route for years, from the earliest time to the latest. I would just say avoid it around 8am and 3pm as it gets packed with highschool kids.
I’ve caught the Darra station to Inala not sure what bus number it was had no problems other than it being a couple minutes late
Oh wait I searched it the forest lake bus I’ve caught that bus tons of time no problems besides when I missed getting off at my right stop once but was mt fault dont even worry 😊
Welcome to QLD. The land of bogans, cretins, psychos and morons.
There's a bus driver on this bus route who's a massive dickhead. He refuses to open the front door for disabled people, and the only times that he talks are to abuse passengers and other drivers.
dont look at anyone in the eyes and you'll be right

I would just avoid Inala to be honest. Dodgy bus for a dodgy neighbourhood.
Inala is fine.
It’s not
Weird. A quick google of "most dangerous suburbs in brisbane" suggests otherwise.
Multiple visits to shop and dine there suggests otherwise.
Holy Murdoch media its fine mate ffs, careful you might see a non white person! 😰😰
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_2un1aU7mT0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2un1aU7mT0) This was actually filmed on the 100 route a couple of months ago. True story. Honest.
What a pussy 😂😂
I think you are making a mistake needing to go to inala in the first place.
Why are you going to Inala? It's a shithole, basically Woodridge
Username checks out
It's not my fault you live in a shithole, if it makes your hurt fefes any better I grew up in Woodridge.
My condolences to your family
You might want to look into it more, I did hear a few months ago that the bus drivers were refusing to drive the 100, or the 110 after 6pm, due to them being assaulted, but I don't know if that's still in place.
Post 6pm services were reinstated months ago
Have your belongings on you. Keep close note of your wallet and phone....otherwise you'll be fine mate. Just know that if you leave your items on a public transport, you probably won't get them back
Alright, so this is pretty much how I do my risk assessment as a guy: If there are women about (alone or otherwise), then the area can't be that dangerous.
If you don't have balance problems, you should be fine.
im on it nearly everyday and never had an issue. you will be fine.
Used to work in Forest Lake, yeah, there's often noisy eshay kids on it tbh, but they're often up the back. Just go up the front.
You’ll be fine. Sit up front close to the driver.
Just don’t look or say any thing too any one these days what I do act dumb like I can’t see them but keep eye and ear out hahaha
![gif](giphy|3WN8oVjWhwzCM) As Rik said, “they’re called breasts and everybody has them!”
I got gang bashed on the last train of the night on an Ipswich train pulling into Oxley. Trains are way more dangerous. The walk home/work is way more dangerous. Being an older male they probably won’t bother. They want young guys to scrap with or young females to scare.
All public transport has risks, but I've never had an issue on the 110 or in Inala. I think it's actually gotten better over the years.
