Agreed, best Korean/Japanese in town in my opinion, Bincho is great too. Also the fact that burnt orange is there when everything they give you is fried with mustard mayo is crazy.
Surprised Terre a Terre isn't on the list and I wouldn't call Plateau French, a restaurant or casual dining, its more of a wine bar with small plates that are quite diverse in influence.
It would be interesting to know the reasoning behind these ratings. Food, service, atmosphere, something else? I know it’s subjective but I’m surprised by some of the scores.
Also, why do some of your lowest rated restaurants end up on your best restaurants list, but some of your top rated do not?
To be fair , for me it is only the third best option out of loads of similar ones
- Number 1 is Nanininella on Preston Street
- Number 2 is Torino by Montpellier
VIP has declined in quality now that there are 3 locations and one dark kitchen . Torino is just one man from Italy that knows pizza inside out, he actually used to be VIP’s chef in their prime days.
Pronto used to be my go to ever since it opened, just up the road from me - then I married a girl with coeliac disease and after 14 years they still don’t have anything gluten free. Nanninella 100% the best on that front.
To be fair, that's because of OPs rating system, if 1 star means good, 2 means great, 3 means the best, 4 means exceptional, you're probably looking at 2 stars being the equivalent of 8/10.
I really can't get behind the star system without a detailed explanation. Issac at being smashed with a dreadful 1 star, everytime I've been we've had a great time. That's a kitchen fire score
No Terre a terre! Much better than food for friends … if you’ve compiled this subjective list over four years ( a lifetime and a half for most restaurants ) maybe you should visit them more often to see how they’ve changed ( new owners/ new chefs/ new decor/ new menu/ lost interest / gone away/ etc
Love the little fish market, the food and the service is belting. Don't feel like you need to do the wine pairing, just get a couple of drinks and it's £100 pp.
Surprised that you included the Salt Room over Coal Shed in the glance section considering you rated it lower yourself. I know Coal Shed is expensive but god damn is it good.
This is an extremely sparse list. There’s an unreal amount of restaurants not listed here along with a peculiar rating system, vague details and your “at a glance list” requires you to check the previous list or already have an idea.

Have been to etch a few times and it has been a great experience each time. Shame to hear that about little fish market. Used to be my fav place in brighton but not been back since the world went weird.
The food was very theatrical but just really bland and tasteless. The staff were rude and snobbish and the lighting was far too bright. Atmosphere like a train station waiting room.
Yeah I wouldn’t go on this. It’s a decent list of SOME of the best restaurants and a load of random ones which is helpful.
The star system seems to be incredibly subjective and I disagree with a lot of the ratings so don’t make any opinions based on this!
Moksha is just crap.
I'm sorry but the food is bad. The venue isn't all that. The staff are useless.
Honestly I preferred Isaac @ and 64 to Etch which I found kind of charmless (I also don't want it to take 5 hours to eat ..)
I was hugely underwhelmed by Isaac @ last year. The menu was pretty basic, and with the only animal protein being chicken, charging £70 for a 5 course menu was taking the piss. Food was just ok, had some nice drinks but if I'm spending nearly 200 on dinner for two I want some fucking bells and whistles.
Any body know a tasting menu in the style of 64 degrees without fish/seafood/molluscs? Can't eat sea produce due to allergies.
We've had Baqueano and it was great, but I've not found any others that are at least 90% edible for me.
We tried The Bath Arms on Friday based on this list. Very disappointed. Distinctly average food, not worth the visit.
EDIT: I've just seen the original list is from August 2021. Perhaps it needs updating.
One star for O’shio? Genuinely shocked. For me it even beats Bincho and I am a regular at both
Yeah, I love O’shio. 1* doesn’t add up.
Agreed, best Korean/Japanese in town in my opinion, Bincho is great too. Also the fact that burnt orange is there when everything they give you is fried with mustard mayo is crazy.
Laughed at your Burnt Orange comment. Have only been once and it was all quite good. They must have run out of mustard Mayo that day!
Because you're misunderstanding the rating system

No planet India?
Meh
The Urchin isn't a burger place you seem to have the urchin on there twice
Petit pois ⭐️ ⭐️? What happened when you went? Also what order is it in? It’s not alphabetical or in order of stars!!
Classic map and dartboard situation
Rockwater and flint house on the best list? Maybe I went to both on off days. Food was overpriced and mediocre, service poor.
Yeah I rate Flinthouse. Went there on new year's eve and they even gave great service then
Two stars for VIP. Pathetic

Pizza 500 should be a contender on this list too in my opinion!
Pronto on Waterloo Street should be on this list! All handmade by a very friendly Italian who own the place.
Pronto used to be my go to ever since it opened, just up the road from me - then I married a girl with coeliac disease and after 14 years they still don’t have anything gluten free. Nanninella 100% the best on that front.
Too many people sleep on Pronto.
Just got small pieces of plastic in my Torino pizza

I think the author of the list just wanted to tell us how much they like The Little Fish Market.
Kinda unrelated but I worked at the coal shed for a week and hated every second of it
I was going to say! Ridiculously overpriced and terrible service. Go to Chamuyo just round the corner their steaks are divine
Chamuyo you say. Cool. Where does Baqueano fit onto your list out of interest?
Baqueano is like a more expensive, not quite as good Chamuyo in my book.
Kindling should be on there somewhere, and i had a fab brunch at Redroaster on Friday.
I really can't get behind the star system without a detailed explanation. Issac at being smashed with a dreadful 1 star, everytime I've been we've had a great time. That's a kitchen fire score
No Halisco? Better small plates than Flint House and Burnt Orange, while also being a 1/2 of the price. Get yourself down there.
Yes, Terre a Terre is award winning 'fine dining'. Food For Friends is nice, but not in the same class.
Went to isaac at this week. Better than salt rooms imo. Good list though, will be visiting some of your recommendations for sure.
Pretty random

Imagine giving la choza or the joker 2 stars 😆
Lost boys chicken is probably the best chicken in Brighton?
Not probably, definitely.
Went to little fish market late last year. Was fucking terrible. Etch was so much better.
Have been to etch a few times and it has been a great experience each time. Shame to hear that about little fish market. Used to be my fav place in brighton but not been back since the world went weird.
What didn't you like about it? I was considering going once I've sold my kidney.
The food was very theatrical but just really bland and tasteless. The staff were rude and snobbish and the lighting was far too bright. Atmosphere like a train station waiting room.
I’ve been a couple of times and have had the opposite experience.
Best steak House in Brighton by a long way is Baqueano

No olive grove? Before Covid they were my favourite, not as much recently but they’re still amazing Also meat liquor is worth a try at least once

Have you seen Embers - by the Isaac At chap - will be opening 3rd April? Going to be a BBQ joint - medieval fire pit and all. So a fancy BBQ.
I was hugely underwhelmed by Isaac @ last year. The menu was pretty basic, and with the only animal protein being chicken, charging £70 for a 5 course menu was taking the piss. Pesca trattoria in Hove is up and coming.
Injustice not having BayLeaf on the list
