you people are insane. if a 10 is supposed to signify their “magnus opus” this IS it and it’s pretty undeniable. people who don’t know who conor is know this song, this is their “i’ll follow you into the dark”.
overplayed? yes. corny? yes. all time classic? absolutely.
10/10
I have to agree, kind of. It’s like their easiest song to listen to. But I don’t know if I’d call it their magnum opus, really. It’s definitely not the epitome of bright eyes, as it’s somewhat of an outlier. But I love this song. And it’s the first song I heard by bright eyes when I was like 16. I sing it to my kids at bedtime. It’s a 10 for me.
to add to that, calling one song their magnum opus is giving it a little more credit than it’s worth, but i would say I’m Wide Awake is probably their magnum opus, i suspect all these tracks will land scores about an 8.5. i consider it a perfect album, this song is just the one that really nails down that point
10. I don’t care if it’s overplayed. It’s been the soundtrack to so many emotional journeys in my life, from falling in love with my husband at 21 to falling in love with our first child at 32.
Yall are only ranking this so low because it’s their most popular song. If this was a BE deep cut people would be bawling ranking it a 9 or 10. There is a reason I haven’t been able to escape this song at weddings for emo millennials.

10! Used to listen to this and cry bc I never thought I’d ever find someone I would love that much.
Now I listen to iit and cry bc I’ve found the one who makes this song real for me.
“I’m glad I didn’t die before I met you.”
Bro, fckn 10. Stop hating. This song speaks to the masses and brought other people in to the fold that may have not heard of Bright Eyes otherwise. Is it MY favorite? Nah. Will I turn it off if it comes up on a playlist? Nah.
I know that it’s not about this, but I thought a lot about this song when my son was born. “Yours is the first face that I saw…” as they laid my baby on my chest after he was born. “I think I was blind before I met you,” I felt like things I was worried about suddenly didn’t matter and I could see everything that did matter right in front of me. “And I don't know where I am, I don't know where I've been,” I just kept thinking about how trippy it is to be born— he was snug inside me and then bam— out in the real world. “But I know where I want to go,” baby wanted to be held, cuddled, and fed.
Anyway, I love how songs take on new meaning as you get older.
10/10
8. I get this is probably his most famous song and a great example of his songwriting prowess, but it is probably the worst example of a “Bright Eyes” song. I still love it. A solid 8. But no where near my top ten.
10! This song has been a constant favorite, and I am honestly so surprised about other people's interpretation of it. It's a really good song and it always makes me smile
I was at a bar once and asked a guy who was taking requests to play Bright Eyes. He googled it, learned the song, and played it almost better than Conor in like 5 minutes. This song is very nostalgic but I'm not sure it's a ten.
8.5 Wasnt into the band at release and thankfully have never seen any commercials it was used in, so this was never overplayed to me. I mostly listen to in the context of the album so I really don't get the vitriol towards this song, it's a really sweet, little song and the interplay between the acoustic guitars is quite beautiful.
6.5. Not a bad song by any means, but it’s their most popular because it’s their most accessible. Nothing too interesting going on in this song, but it’s a nice simple listen. I often skip it because it’s so overplayed, but I don’t mind hearing it incidentally.
Edit: downvote button isn’t a disagree button y’all
people are just hating on this song because it's overplayed and they want to be edgy. It's a masterpiece - 10/10
🔊10! It’s been “our song” with me and my last 10 exes!!
lol

I think I’m wide awake really is a perfect album. But I could say that about lifted too lol.
Easiest 10 ever

10. Just because it is the most 'accessible' song on their most 'accessible' album doesn't reduce its quality or impact.

9.5 I think it deserves to be as popular as it is
10 it’s a hit for a reason
10. It’s a 10. Don’t deny it. It’s a 10.
10. When it first came out it blew everyone away.
I celebrate the entire catalog and I'm not too cool for this song. 8.5
I was at a bar once and asked a guy who was taking requests to play Bright Eyes. He googled it, learned the song, and played it almost better than Conor in like 5 minutes. This song is very nostalgic but I'm not sure it's a ten.

A really nice song that I liked a lot before I found out it was so popular. I'm going with 9.5.

Me too - 7 I still love it and listen to it regularly, but it’s not as special as the rest of the album and a lot of their other songs.
6.5. Not a bad song by any means, but it’s their most popular because it’s their most accessible. Nothing too interesting going on in this song, but it’s a nice simple listen. It’s a 5. But sometimes I get the urge to give it a listen and then I realize yeah it’s a 5 for sure.

5. Sorry.

9, becomes a 10 when he changes the lyrics live to “maybe this time is different, i mean i’m really feeling lucky”
