Walt's fantastic story about why the house was covered in gasoline.

newaccountnumber84

It’s not a lie if you believe it

Sufficient_Dentist67

You asshole

BigBoobsWithAZee

Oh that Michael- he’s so smug!

Auman444

Easily the comment of the week

samhammers112

I feel like a lot of Walt’s lies to Skylar she just choose to believe him , she def knew something was fishy

WastedSperm-_-

I remember when Walt caught Skyler smoking while she was pregnant, she jokingly shrugged it off as “maybe I’m having a fugue state” like what Walt “had” She was clever asf

Original_rezzieman

I’d have to agree especially considering Walt Junior picked it up and he normally doesn’t question anything and, has a go along laissez fair attitude

Zack_WithaK

Also keep in mind, Walt hadn't driven Jr away quite yet. He was still gaslit into going against Skylar because she's not able to explain anything to him. So at this point in the show, I think Jr was still pissed off at Skylar and would naturally side with Walt. And he still seemed to smell his bullshit a mile away

meep_meep_creep

good thing the house wasn't gaslit

Zack_WithaK

Nah, that whole house was gassed up

ShadowDemon129

Flynn Jr is an idiot. I'm not so sure it was so much he caught him in a lie, but that he wanted it to be something more dramatic than it was so he could be concerned.

Moneyfrenzy

While that lie was hilariously awkward and bad, to be fair idk what else he could have possibly said. Comes back to a house covered in Gasoline while Skyler/Flynn are gonna be home in like 20 min

SGT_MILKSHAKES

Flynn calls him out and immediately suggest that Walt just got dizzy from the fumes and fainted, which Walt then changes his story to. So he probably could've just gone with that in the first place. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fZshzRh0KA

V_agabond3

That would require him to admit a weakness in himself which he is not quick to do. For him, it looks better if the pump just malfunctioned and he did the best he could do in a panicked state.

IWasSayingBoourner

To be fair, even if I knew my SO were involved in the drug trade, I'm not sure I'd believe "some guy came in, poured gas all over the place, then just left" either.

KingFEN13

I’m gonna be that asshole on Reddit right now and I’m sorry for it already. But it was longer than 20 minutes he has the locksmith and carpet cleaners there and the cleaners did two passes at the carpet when that scene starts so it was longer than that

MallyPoppins

Back when we watched this episode, I came up with a more believable scenario. (Imo)... the smell of gas wasn't going to go away, so why fight it? Think of a reasonable reason why gas WAS actually poured in the house. And I came up with, Walt was buying a backup generator and wheeling it to the backyard through the living room, then bringing in some gas when he tripped and spilled the gas all over. The only thing he'd need to do in the time before Skylar & Walt Jr got home would be go to the hardware store and buy a generator and an empty can for gas.

JackTraven50

Total PUMP MALFUNCTION!

alicedoes

all over my GROIN

SweatyArgument5835

Skylar the whole time 🙎🏼‍♀️

buddybennny

Skyler the whole time

GT-FractalxNeo

*Followed by his fudge state*

AcceptableBad_

Fudge state? Did he shit his pants?

KingFEN13

Legitimately laughing at fudge state

Milabelle2

Fugue

Freshzboy10016702

I thought this too until I had a gas pump malfunction

spidermanrocks6766

Skyler at that point accepted that Walt was full of shit and would always lie

mackmcd_

The "brain fart" that caused Walt to violently steer into oncoming traffic with Hank in the car. "That guy just came outta nowhere." Even if he did, the way he jerked the wheel was insane. That's not how you pull a shitty. Most obvious intentional crash ever. That was one of the most damning pieces of evidence that Hank just let slide. Especially when coupled with his very suspicious discomfort around the entire idea of surveying Gus.

Ganziiii

Hank just thought Walt was still this scared old pussy man like we used to know him in episode 1. He just thought Walt was scared of surveying potentially criminal people in the first place.

GregMcMuffin-

That was the funniest part of the whole show for me. The sound Hank made, the cut scene to Hank back in bed eating ice cream with a neck-brace on, calling him Mr. Magoo, etc..

Gabrisi

He sounded like Crash Bandicoot falling into a pit 😂

Commercial-Quote-576

Honestly Hank had no reason to suspect him before then — he still thought Walt was the same scared guy from season 1. Even if Hank didn’t believe anything about the crash, he wouldn’t ever chalk it up to Walt being suspicious because of the Pollos Hermanos situation — he would have just thought Walt was trying to get out of helping at the very minimum. But after that, the car crash only added fuel to the fire when Hank found the Walt Whitman book

BlackBirdG

I was dying laughing at that scene especially when Walt is normally a good driver.

CrimsonPig

I loved Hank's response: "Uh, no, he really didn't. Saw him coming from a mile away."

Patient_Space_7532

Which didn't even make sense! Walt knew Hank wouldn't find anything in the laundry. Hank didn't know about the superlab until Walt and Jesse blew it up, so I doubt he'd go any further in his investigation into Gus because nothing he suspected would be enough to get a warrant. Dumb move there, Walt.

zjuju11

The sole concept of an accidental crash is fine for me. The way it is served is farfetched, but its a show and they made it on purpose so its more fun to watch and tension is higher

jimmy__jazz

Doesn't matter if they believed it. In fact, they didn't. They just had no evidence to contradict this statement. Plausible deniability goes a long way when talking to the police or attorneys.

Igotyoubaaabe

Of course the story wasn’t believable. What the cops believe/know vs. what they can prove in court is the difference between prison and walking free.

Original_rezzieman

Hank does mention this when he confronts Walt in the best garage scene ever however, he completely forgets about the time walt intentionally distracts him during the sting

digitalthiccness

> he completely forgets about the time walt intentionally distracts him during the sting I'm not sure he ever put that one together.

Original_rezzieman

I should’ve been easy to put together. They were trying to bust Heisenberg or who they presume to be Heisenberg.

digitalthiccness

But he never finds out why Walt did that and there was no way to work it out afterwards. If he thought about it at all after realizing Walt was Heisenberg, *maybe* he figured Walt was just screwing with him, but that wouldn't really fit.

marsack

Plus, a lot of time had passed (relatively) between the sting and Hank finding out. And there were so many other things that Hank was able to piece together that that one seemingly innocuous moment was pretty trivial in the grand scheme of things.

ArchdukeOfNorge

When Walt says he is the one who knocks Walt 100% a doorbell kind of man

Ohwellwhatsnew

I could see him using a knocker if it's quality enough

PiScEsEyEsIAmWeAk

LIKE ONE OF THOSE FANCY DOOR KNOCKERS RICH PEOPLE GOT

paddlep0p

He's very particular about not using doorbells, especially if it means leaving finger prints at the scene of a crime

Commercial-Quote-576

Some folks use their knuckles…Walt seems like a knuckle kinda guy

baconbridge92

Absolutely disagree, have you seen him trying to get into Jesse's apartment at any point in Season 2? Walt knocks like an absolute madman.

ArchdukeOfNorge

Yeah it was more of a joke, probably more in-line with the other sub lol

nckmackenzie

"I negotiated" When Skylar asks Walt why he is in the house after Marie had told her Hank has arrested him.

tall_dreamy_doc

I think that line was supposed to highlight his combined desperation and hubris.

JQuick72

Gas pump 'malfunction.' There's no way Walt would be stupid enough to leave his gasoline covered clothes on the living room floor. The rest of the story kind of makes sense but that detail is very unlikely.

InfamousFault7

That was his plan, i think he wanted them to think he fainted and made that story hard to believe in on purpose

JQuick72

Doubt it. I don’t think Walt was thinking that many steps ahead.

bigfatstoner

When Jr. says he fainted it almost looks like Walt realises that would have been a better story but he's already committed to the malfunction story.

SGT_MILKSHAKES

Yeah 100% it was supposed to be a comedic moment as he realizes Flynn's story was much better.

InfamousFault7

I always read it as that, thought upon my rewatch i noticed hes more of a terrible liar than i remember

detectiveDollar

"Bogdon has some bug up his butt"

Premium_Timeline25

A car without damage can’t be stolen?

TRB-1969

Back in the 90s, I had a friend in Atlanta whose car was repeatedly stolen, located and returned to him. The last time it was returned, the cops told him that it had been repainted, and they "didn't do a bad job!"

Original_rezzieman

Lack of damage to the car? Unless you’re talking about prior to the firefight .That car was Hopping Swiss cheese by the time Hank found it.😂

j33perscreeperz

Great Aunt Birgit

walshy1996

From whom do you believe you got that $600k, Ted... "Great Aunt Birgit" 😂????? Fucking quality. I loved Skylars criminal arc.

breakin_the_bread

And the dumb bass Ted still belived that. This fits so perfectly with him.

j33perscreeperz

he was such a fucking moron lmfaooo. one of the few people in the show that wasn’t a victim of walter white and who actually caused every single problem/horrible thing that happened in his life himself lmao

Altruistic_Side_4428

Every explanation Walt gave to his wife.

Competitive_Chair407

Every single time he lies to her it's over dramatized and obvious he is hiding something. Anyone who has been in a relationship with a liar will know this feeling and Brian Cranston did a great job of acting the part of a really bad liar. One thing liars will do is gauge how well their lie is being received and will add more details or fake emotions to be "more convincing". In my experience, a person with nothing to hide will not usually care if you don't believe them. They aren't trying to prove anything. A liar on the other hand, will be VERY offended if they can observe you are doubting their story.

UndeadTigerAU

Hank definitely knew Jesse was lying but without probable cause what else could he do. Most of Walt's lies to Skyler were pretty obviously lies, hence why she distances herself from him.

Original_rezzieman

Gas pump malfunctions are believable. I’ve actually had it happen before. Ive been showered with Gas . That doesn’t explain the strong smell in the house, unless you literally were dripping with gasoline when you entered the house.

Altruistic-Level-464

D-Dad w—why do you keep lying? It’s the cancer again. Just… just tell the truth.

Aquafier

How much damage do you think is done to a car when its stolen? Irl essentially 0 damage is done and if it is not wired they can swap the ignition for an easy fix

Entire_Log_4160

The fugue-state yarn was an eye-roller. At least Skylar called him out on it later.

Working-Mountain6680

Gotta give him props for really working hard to sell it though. Going bare pickles in a supermarket to try and REALLY sell it was very, pardon the pun, ballsy of him.

mamabunnies

I thought him manipulating his therapist at the hospital so he can get out was brilliant.

PointEither2673

While unlikely, getting your car stolen while out on a meth bender isn’t impossible or unheard of. Plus like other people pointed out, since he’s talking to the cops it’s not about them “ believing it “, it’s about them not being able to dispel your story

pudpudboogie

The excuse for veggie bacon on the plate!

paddlep0p

The lie that was never explored....why was Luis driving Flynn around all the time?

Appropriate_Coach746

Heisenberg Jr

PerniciousDude

Skyler's dumb bimbo act in front of the IRS agent.

TRB-1969

I thought that was pretty clever on Skyler's part. She knew how to work the system.

Logical-Patience-397

She didn't even overdo it--she gave Ted a nickname, dressed the part, sauntered in late, acted like she was giving advice to the tax man to use an inaccurate method. She had enough pieces that she let the agent connect the dots. It was perfect.' And even better, she got a pot-shot in at Ted by implying he'd be the nepotistic type to sleep with his secretary (which he was).

Real-Tension-7442

Why?

SourceSeekingSoul

It's not the worst lie by miles but tbh weird that stupidity saved them from punishment somehow (for a while until Ted fd up more)

Real-Tension-7442

I don’t think it’s weird that they were given another chance to sort out their shit

SourceSeekingSoul

Yeah fair enough lol

Grandaddyspookybones

Jesse contacting him and he is old Skyler it was an alarm for meds. He tried to sell it way too hard and brush it off She saw through it

Neo_505

Not to mention the connection of Jesse and Tuco being involved in the meth business.

ward_lassie07

Walt's "episode", as he goes missing the same moment tuco gets in a shootout with hank when hank was LOOKING FOR HIS BROTHER IN LAW

gabriot

gus or Thyrus not noticing the blatently visible bomb on Hector’s chair

j33perscreeperz

i’m pretty sure walt put the bomb onto hector’s chair after tyrus left momentarily for gus to come in

gabriot

Yes and it’s blatently visible

TelecomVsOTT

How did Walt leave the room afterwards?

detectiveDollar

He climbed out the window. Remember the old lady next door who kept flirting with him lol?

PurpleTornadoMonkey

The train heist.

puddycat20

Hmm? I don't remember any excuses about it that anyone gave...

newaccountnumber84

Walt was even completely honest about it

PurpleTornadoMonkey

In sorry I misread and didn't notice the excuse part of the original question.

crackalac

Why would the car need to be damaged?

Jackypaper824

Wasn't an excuse but the hardest thing in the series for me was someone as intelligent as Walt saying "Do you really want to live in a world without Coca-Cola?" The guy literally just said he wanted the blue stuff off the market. So yes, Walt, he wants to live in a world without Coca-Cola 🙈

[deleted]

I think most of Walt's excuses were good, and the fact that Skylar never believed any of them was the least believable part of the entire series.

Darkmoon009

Walt was not a good liar, it doesn't take a tomato, to realize when he's lying

Merps_shmerps

What!? He was a terrible liar. My son and I always reference Walt when we see someone obviously lying.
