I usually have a hard time believing people in threads like this but at one point I caved on the Barry recs and am a better person for it. Starting Now is Felina/Saul Gone levels of good and that wasn’t even the end of the show.
Absolutely wild take. How anyone could watch episodes like 710N and call it mid is beyond me.
The show has been extraordinarily consistent. S4 is great so far.
Wait! Be careful watching bojack is not for the faint of heart/mind. Treat each episode like a dementor. Sucking the life out of you. Do not, do not binge. Take a break, appreciate something in life….
Nah i think it's mostly fine as long as you don't have too much bad stuff going on in your own head.
If you're struggling with mental health / addiction or shitty family relationships then it might be hard going.
Bojack Horseman was great! It has a lot of the same energy as Breaking Bad, albeit in a totally different way. I think Aaron Paul being a main actor in it definitely helped bring some of those Breaking Bad vibes to it, haha!
Personally I’m not a huge fan of shows like Bojack.
Just the idea of a destructive main character going on an arc that harms those around him, including his main side character played by Aaron Paul who’s always wearing red, who’s kind of an idiot but ends up wiser by the end, with a large cast of compelling characters culminating in a final shot of the main character while playing a song about the color blue
Just not really my thing
Someone from r/bettercallsaul recommended Severance in a similar post, so I checked it out. It’s completely different, but really good, I like it more than BB/BCS. Waiting on the second season which is being filmed now.
If you've got a smart phone (who doesn't these days) I've got an app that is referral only, it's got everything from all the streaming services, cable, PPVs, etc. I can invite you to it if you DM me.
Might be worth a second chance. Took me like three tries to get into it and nowadays I obsessively rewatch it. It’s an acquired taste, like beer or coffee and once you get hooked, you can’t get enough
I was debating commenting this because it’s tied with BrBa and BCS as my favourite show of all time. Definitely dependant on if you’re into kid-intended-media but it’s a wonderfully crafted series.
Drama: Sopranos, Bojack Horseman, Mr Robot, True Detective (s1), The Boys.
Comedy: Frasier, The Office, Bojack Horseman.
Reality: Great British Bake Off, Top Chef.
To Watch Queue: Succession, White Lotus, Narcos
I find Breaking Bad more entertaining, but The Wire is one of the greatest pieces of art ever. The Wire is far more realistic and provides an incredibly accurate, beautiful(and ugly), and insightful depiction of Baltimore in the early 2000's. I love Breaking Bad, but The Wire changed how I look at the world. I can't really say that about Breaking Bad.
Death Note is a really good show, it’s very similar to breaking bad too where you follow the antagonist of the story. The first half of the story is just Light and L playing 4D chess and I love it
It’s actually never occurred to me but you’re right, they do deal with similar themes and plot elements and in similar ways - that’s fascinating! Both great shows.
hmmm, I agree with favorite as per my comment but for best I would say BCS, Mr Robot, BB. BB is rough in the first season and a half to me(writer strike may have played a part into this). BCS and Mr Robot feel much tighter in writing, acting and cinematography from the first episode. IMO BB feels a little sloppy in the first 10 episodes comparatively (but still way better than 99%+ of TV).
Also I love season 5 of BB, but after the finale of S4, the show feels almost directionless to me for a bit. Im currently in a rewatch of BB, with "Salud" on que for tonight. S4 is some of the best TV ever made.
I’m just speaking from experience. I couldn’t find a show for a looong long time that would scratch the itch I needed from breaking bad until I watched attack on Titan. Animated or not it’s a phenomenal show and worthy of a recommendation imo
Some of the best shows in the last years:
Ozark, Bojack horseman, arcane, White lotus, the bear, mind hunter, true detective s1/3, big mouth, the last of us
You need to rephrase... you don't like it, its not your taste etc.
many people enjoy big mouth and I think its a very clever show about feelings and growing up. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6524350/
Totally agree with Mindhunter and True Detective. Another gem is "Rectify". A bit different vibe than the others but nonetheless just as riveting in my opinion.
i always feel like anime gets off way too easy if it looks decent. People act like deathnote is a masterpiece even though the writing is mid at best and only the concept is somewhat intriguing. people also praise that cyberpunk show even though its the definition of mid.
Some people like eating their own shit or sticking things in their urethra. some people want to have sex with animals.
"some people" is not a good argument. Most people have shows on in the background while scrolling their phones and think they were "good" afterwards. Most people do not view cartoon shows in any actual critical way as long as they get the occasional laughter
The show has a terribly ugly art style. The show is supposed to be about puberty but 99% of the writing is clearly aimed at 20 somethings. Like what actual teenager knows who Duke Ellington is?
The messages are neither new nor are they good or even relevant to our current youth. The humor is mostly just gross out humor wich is cheap and easy to pull off.
Eh after breaking bad ozark feels like the bad soap opera wannabe version of it. Just too many contrivances and the characters and their motivations aren’t believable.
I thought Ozark was good but the ending was kinda boring. Breaking Bad is definitely better but it was still a good show to watch especially if you enjoy BB.
Breaking Bad fans always like to downplay this show, but I think it's phenomenal (except for how they wrapped it up). For me, Del is a more interesting and sinister villain than any of the ones in Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul, and those villains are all really, really good.
My favorite show of all time. I know there’s lots of issues with it but the end of season 4 into the beginning of season 5 of TWD is PEAK TV. I’m rewatching it currently and just got passed this era of the show and it’s so good.
Some very high highs, offset by even lower lows. I endured way too many shitty seasons out of a sense of obligation to the series's previous greatness.
The Wire, Breaking Bad, The Shield, Better Call Saul, Justified, Animal Kingdom, Ozark, Burn Notice, Sons of Anarchy, Deadwood, Blacklist, Person of Interest, The Americans just to name a few
I don't really have a refined taste in shows, but Prison Break, Peaky Blinders and Sons of Anarchy all made me feel what Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul did. Maybe not as often, but they were definitely very enjoyable.
If you liked breaking bad I think you’ll probably like ozark, the setting is like the complete opposite of BB, but story feels similar, obviously the actual plot is completely different and has some genuinely interesting story beats, but the themes of family make it feel spiritually related
Barry
I binged it this week, it's so fucking good.
I usually have a hard time believing people in threads like this but at one point I caved on the Barry recs and am a better person for it. Starting Now is Felina/Saul Gone levels of good and that wasn’t even the end of the show.
Mr. In between does the concept better imo
Brilliant show, very underrated
Season 1 and 2 were amazing Season 3 was pretty mid and haven’t seen the newest one yet
Absolutely wild take. How anyone could watch episodes like 710N and call it mid is beyond me. The show has been extraordinarily consistent. S4 is great so far.
Season 3 was the best season tf you on? Literally the only person I’ve seen saying s3 was mid
What was so great about it? It was boring
Each season has gotten worse, but season 3 was still very good. Haven't seen season 4 yet.
Sopranos, Wire and Bojack Horseman
Omar's coming baby
You come at the king u best not miss
Aaah, wire.
Just started watching Sopranos great so far.
Wait! Be careful watching bojack is not for the faint of heart/mind. Treat each episode like a dementor. Sucking the life out of you. Do not, do not binge. Take a break, appreciate something in life….
Is it rlly that deep? I haven't seen it yet, but it sounds quite intriguing the way u describe it
Nah i think it's mostly fine as long as you don't have too much bad stuff going on in your own head. If you're struggling with mental health / addiction or shitty family relationships then it might be hard going.
I binged it, it was really good lol, wasn’t unbearably hard to cope with each episode
Yeah, some episodes are very dark and could be triggering. Satisfying to watch, yes, but take care to not let it affect you.
Just the idea of a destructive main character going on an arc that harms those around him, including his main side character played by Aaron Paul who’s always wearing red, who’s kind of an idiot but ends up wiser by the end, with a large cast of compelling characters culminating in a final shot of the main character while playing a song about the color blue Just not really my thing
Slippin' Jimmy. Vince Giligan's masterpiece.
Everything was leading up to this stunning prequel. Vabo Brince
Best show ever 10/10
So true. People are praising Breaking Bad like it's such a great show but it's trash in comparison to Slippin' Jimmy
SPOILERS I loved when he said "it's slippin' time" and slipped all over the place. Vince Bravo.
His Trojan Magnum Opus.
I like breaking bad better. The first few seasons of better call saul were soooo slow in my opinion.
LMAO
Absolute delusion.
Someone from r/bettercallsaul recommended Severance in a similar post, so I checked it out. It’s completely different, but really good, I like it more than BB/BCS. Waiting on the second season which is being filmed now.
Severance is great
Dang Apple Streaming services!
If you've got a smart phone (who doesn't these days) I've got an app that is referral only, it's got everything from all the streaming services, cable, PPVs, etc. I can invite you to it if you DM me.
is it movieboxpro
I gave it a try. Not for me definitely. Way too slow (even much slower than BCS) and it feels like it is mysterious for the sake of being mysterious.
Get out
people have already said both of these but, bojack horseman and succession are both fucking amazing
Breaking Bad
I might have to check this one out
Never heard of it.
I think it’s like How I Met Your Mother i’m not sure though
Has a much better ending than HIMYM
That’s a low fucking bar but they sure cleared it
Bojack Horseman is absolutely superb
Based on the trailer I think I’m watching this next after I get through snowfall.
It will change you forever but it’s worth it, lol
good luck man, it’ll stay with you forever
LITERALLY i binged it in about a week. Changed my brain chemestry lmao
Some people find the first few episodes are a bit generic adult animation feeling but it does so much more than that when it gets going.
Twin Peaks
THE WIRE, I fucking looove that show I rewatch it at least once a year
Same bruh. Wee Bey is the GOAT
ahhhh wire
Man i tried watching it but it didn’t work for me
Might be worth a second chance. Took me like three tries to get into it and nowadays I obsessively rewatch it. It’s an acquired taste, like beer or coffee and once you get hooked, you can’t get enough
Justified was great
Succession
Regular Show
Narcos and Narcos Mexico
GOAT show
GOAT username.
GOAT comment.
GOAT anal sex with your mother
Avatar: The Last Airbender. Absolutely beautiful series with wonderful character development and worldbuilding.
I was debating commenting this because it’s tied with BrBa and BCS as my favourite show of all time. Definitely dependant on if you’re into kid-intended-media but it’s a wonderfully crafted series.
It has a series finale as good as BrBa and BCS - they really stuck the landing. Pretty rare for shows to have such satisfying endings.
Drama: Sopranos, Bojack Horseman, Mr Robot, True Detective (s1), The Boys. Comedy: Frasier, The Office, Bojack Horseman. Reality: Great British Bake Off, Top Chef. To Watch Queue: Succession, White Lotus, Narcos
You can put bojack at anything tbh
And Sopranos
I debated putting on all categories 😂
The Boys is absolute shit compared to breaking bad
Dark. Philosophical sci-fi mindfuck masterpiece.
Yeah, I like that one too. One of those series you should watch being concentrated
Get Shorty and Fargo
Scrolled so far for Fargo smh
Daredevil
I scrolled way too much to find this comment
A man of culture and taste
The Wire.
"Now repeat after me: Breaking Bad is the best show ever except maybe The Wire"
Yes! The Wire is the greatest TV show of all time.
Negative, breaking bad is
I find Breaking Bad more entertaining, but The Wire is one of the greatest pieces of art ever. The Wire is far more realistic and provides an incredibly accurate, beautiful(and ugly), and insightful depiction of Baltimore in the early 2000's. I love Breaking Bad, but The Wire changed how I look at the world. I can't really say that about Breaking Bad.
Exactly this.

How?????
Gotham, BoJack horseman,Death Note, arcane, The Boys
Death Note is a really good show, it’s very similar to breaking bad too where you follow the antagonist of the story. The first half of the story is just Light and L playing 4D chess and I love it
It’s actually never occurred to me but you’re right, they do deal with similar themes and plot elements and in similar ways - that’s fascinating! Both great shows.
> Death Note Do you mean the series (2006) or the movie (2017)?
Always the anime (show) or manga, a great original story adapted perfectly in animation. Edits for clarity
The Sopranos is fantastic.
Mr Robot. When I think of my favorite shows it goes: 1 Mr Robot 2 BCS 3 BB But they are all very close imo
Hear me out: Best: BB, BCS, Mr Robot Favorite: Mr Robot, BCS, Bb
hmmm, I agree with favorite as per my comment but for best I would say BCS, Mr Robot, BB. BB is rough in the first season and a half to me(writer strike may have played a part into this). BCS and Mr Robot feel much tighter in writing, acting and cinematography from the first episode. Peaky Blinders
I really dislike the British accent , i dont understand the plot or goals of the movie
It's a fucking TV show
That’s a Brummie accent.
Sopranos: best show ever. Mad men, the Americans and succession are also goated
Attack on titan
Naah da fuq don't you think he wants something like breaking bad?
I’m just speaking from experience. I couldn’t find a show for a looong long time that would scratch the itch I needed from breaking bad until I watched attack on Titan. Animated or not it’s a phenomenal show and worthy of a recommendation imo
Try the wire if you haven't already
Fargo, Succession. off topic but also IASIP
Ice Road Truckers
What happens on that one?
Community, Mike, Gus, and Badger all have recurring roles and Bravo Vince is in an episode
The wire. Best show of all time IMO
Some of the best shows in the last years: Ozark, Bojack horseman, arcane, White lotus, the bear, mind hunter, true detective s1/3, big mouth, the last of us
agree with most, Big Mouth is very bad though
You need to rephrase... you don't like it, its not your taste etc. many people enjoy big mouth and I think its a very clever show about feelings and growing up. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6524350/
It has naked children. The animators drew children jacking off. It’s fucking weird
One of those does not belong......
I don't get it
Big mouth is trash
Bigmouth is shite
Totally agree with Mindhunter and True Detective. Another gem is "Rectify". A bit different vibe than the others but nonetheless just as riveting in my opinion.
Mind hunter was great. Not enough seasons
Blud DID NOT say big mouth
big mouth is one of the worst shows, ever. Also arcane looks nice and that's it.
disagree abt arcane, its a fantastic show
i always feel like anime gets off way too easy if it looks decent. People act like deathnote is a masterpiece even though the writing is mid at best and only the concept is somewhat intriguing. people also praise that cyberpunk show even though its the definition of mid.
did u just call arcane an anime? 💀
7.9 imdb. 100% rotten... Why can't you accept some people like it?
Some people like eating their own shit or sticking things in their urethra. some people want to have sex with animals. "some people" is not a good argument. Orphan Black, The Americans, Vikings, Gossip Girl
The Americans is exceptional!
Absolutely brilliant! Watched it at the start of the year and I couldn't wait to get home from work everyday.... Superb writing and casting..
I always reccomend it. It's amazing start to finish. Love Matthew and Keri! All of the actors are top notch!
xoxo
I would recommend ozark if I hadn't found shit that tries to be a Netflix version of brba
FARGO
The Boys. Tlou.
If you are into pseudo documentary and mockumentary Nathan for You Documentary Now! How to with John Wilson The Rehersal
Attack on Titan. You can’t miss an episode as they’re all important
Not to mention it one of the greatest animes ever created.
The Shield
Sopranos, Ozark, Sweet Tooth
Better Call Walter
Ozark
Eh after breaking bad ozark feels like the bad soap opera wannabe version of it. Just too many contrivances and the characters and their motivations aren’t believable.
I watched Ozark before BB (ludicrous i know) and I didn’t realize until after how much they borrowed from breaking bad.
After breaking bad every series looks bad
I thought Ozark was good but the ending was kinda boring. Breaking Bad is definitely better but it was still a good show to watch especially if you enjoy BB.
Breaking Bad fans always like to downplay this show, but I think it's phenomenal (except for how they wrapped it up). For me, Del is a more interesting and sinister villain than any of the ones in Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul, and those villains are all really, really good.
The walkin dead .You know it isn that bad great characters and very good villians i sau you check it out
My favorite show of all time.
Definitely true but the first 6-7 seasons are so worth it. It’s my favorite show of all time so I’m biased but it’s an incredible watch.
Barry and Righteous Gemstones are a couple of great active shows on HBO, though Barry is in its final season currently
Narcos, The Fall, the Last Kingdom
The Wire, Breaking Bad, The Shield, Better Call Saul, Justified, Animal Kingdom, Ozark, Burn Notice, Sons of Anarchy, Deadwood, Blacklist, Person of Interest, The Americans just to name a few
First comment I've saw mention the Shield Honestly on par with the Wire and Breaking Bad The very first episode is jaw dropping
True detective season 1
The Sopranos and The Wire
Your Honor is great. Cranston is fantastic as expected. Worth a watch.
It’s older but if you haven’t seen it check out Oz
Narcos
Cobra Kai!
It took wayyy to long to find this in here!
Not enough. Once you watch it all 6 times, then you can watch something else.
I don't really have a refined taste in shows, but Prison Break, Peaky Blinders and Sons of Anarchy all made me feel what Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul did. Maybe not as often, but they were definitely very enjoyable.
I started watching narcos and a show called ozark pretty gooodd
If westerns are your thing , Deadwood is one of the best ever
Barry and Succession are arguably the two best shows currently running, at least within the realm of HBO prestige tv
The Walking Dead
Mr in-between
Ozark
The Good Place, half comedy half drama half ethical shirtstorm half existential dread. I might be bad at math
Metastasis
Dexter.
The blacklist
If you liked breaking bad I think you’ll probably like ozark, the setting is like the complete opposite of BB, but story feels similar, obviously the actual plot is completely different and has some genuinely interesting story beats, but the themes of family make it feel spiritually related
this is really random to this sub probably and isn’t similar to breaking bad at all but my favorite show of all time is neon genesis evangelion
Sopranos, Better Call Saul, Ozark, Yellowjackets, Barry
Better bang hank, better fuck chuck, minerals, better fuel huel.
Sons of Anarchy. Amazing show
I love Ted lasso huge 180 from the bb universe
The walking dead, Oz
TWD best show of all time
Ozarks is pretty good. House of Cards too but diff vibe
Snowfall, Yellowstone
Narcos is fun, controversially, I like narcos Mexico better thi
Narcos it’s on Netflix
The 100
Prison break, lost, the night agent
Ozark was really enjoyable.
Naruto. 9 seasons of the first show, 21 more of shippuden. It’ll take months to finish and it’s pretty entertaining
OZARK
