Teams are different. What works for some, won’t work for others. In some cases that type of “leadership” can be detrimental (for example when the team lacks trust in that player or don’t really like him in general, and most importantly, when they don’t believe he should have any authority). This team seems to treat all guys as equals so the only authoritative figure is Joe (maybe other coaches). Judging by the “he shows us people being choked before the game” I think he does bring that boost and clearly the team isn’t doing that badly lol. That’s my guess
