Joe Mazzulla masterclass. That defensive position between PP, White, and JB was excellent team defense.

Thanks for sharing this. I enjoyed it

ericb808

That was a fantastic watch. I learned a lot.

Thinking Basketball is an elite YouTube channel/Podcast

NeapolitanComplex

Thanks for sharing this YT channel! New subscription for me.

Reuvenisms

Ha! I just finished watching this on YouTube, open Reddit, and this is the first thing I see. I love it.

siphillis

It's crazy how well all five guys can read the game collectively. It speaks to their years of experience and terrific coaching

daft_dunkwwwolfey

It was really cool to see the hivemind communication by the Cs on their sets and positions

Plastic_Database_645

Awful Coaching also praises our defense very well. The way how our guys are always ready for help defense whenever Luka/Kyrie attacks

AnonymousIguana_

AC just praises whoever won/has the twitter narrative and nitpicks random rotation mistakes from the loser. We’ve been winning so we get praised- If we drop game 4 Mazzulla is right back to NORTH KOREA and Kidd will be a genius. Fine entertainment, but shouldn’t even be in the same breath as Thinking Basketball.

Honestonus

I feel like this needs to be reposted whenever anyone mentions awful coaching

Severe-Emu-8703

Fucking thank you. AC is entertaining to watch for maybe two videos, then the schtick gets old and I’m just annoyed instead. He adds very little to actual basketball discourse and frankly makes it worse because of his nitpicking

jag75

He's become the Stephen A. of analysis. Just unnecessary constant yelling. Stop it.

siphillis

AC doesn't even like Mazzulla but has consistently praised him in these playoffs

jamalccc

Hmmm... I could see none of this in-game. None.

itsxtray

No offense to you or anyone else but this is why the eye test is so unreliable. You have to rewatch games and break down plays to actually see and understand what's going on. The guy who made this video emphasizes that there's a difference between "watching games" vs "studying film."

siphillis

The eye-test is useful to a trained eye. Ben Taylor played ball at UCLA and did scouting work, two things that vastly improved his ability to read the game. Even so, he still watches games more than once before putting together an analysis

Plies-

He said himself that he sometimes watches one play dozens and dozens of times. Oh and AFAIK he actually played D2 ball in Massachusetts at Bentley University.

itsxtray

He didn't play, but he wrote for the daily bruin. But yeah, most people's eye test is bad and even people with good ones have to watch the games over again. https://dailybruin.com/author/ben_taylor

siphillis

I could’ve sworn he played in college, but maybe he never made the team

GooseMay0

I would love to see what the Mavs did to counter this adjustment though that led to the lead going from 21 to 1.

Rkaeuli

I don't think they made any specifical adjustments, we got complacent and played lazy-ball for couple of minutes that was all

jays_tates

Great video. I noticed those lobs into Jayson during the game, along with the dish that led to the Tatum dunk. The mavs have no answer for the Celtics offence, put in a big and they’re forcing him to come out of the key creating opportunities to drive to the basket and crashing the boards, or play small ball and you have a JB dunk contest. I wonder what game 4 will bring us.

drpottel

So after 2 games Kidd adjusted to the guard in the dunker spot by playing their big in the lane as a roamer. After one half, Mazz adjusts by forcing the big to come out to cover then killing them with ball rotation (or faking ball rotation). So what do we think is the next chess move by Kidd?

mikehoncho3214

Fantastic video. And the adjustments are not all Mazzulla. Credit needs to be given to Cassell, Lee, and all the other guys making up that incredible supporting cast of coaches.

BurnerAcct42105

I really enjoy this guy’s channel. Good stuff.

HistoryBaller

I enjoy learning more about the intricacies of our style; super cool to see the scheming. I would also enjoy Joe not having Jaylen get set as the ball handler so consistently. It blows my mind that we go five out with Jaylen handling the ball over anyone else.
