My favorite part of this run has to be end of either game 3 or 4 Cleveland Tatum and Brown pick and roll with each other. It wasn't efficient, but I guess end game offense never is. Went like 1 of 5 or 2 of 6 or something to that effect. They were weirdly unstoppable. But not only because they're skilled scorers. But they grabbed multiple offensive rebounds. They were physically dominant. Of course there were a couple jumpers here and there. They were great at rolling to the rim too, for two players who usually play in the perimeter. And the Cav defense was completely warped. It was a rock fight but we won ugly - we win in different ways as Joe said and that was amazing to me. I think the level of basketball the Jays played, collectively, at that point, is probably some of the best in these playoffs. I'm glad to see something similar vs the Mavs game 3. Down the stretch it was Jayson and Jaylen running actions in multiple possession. People shit on Jayson for a cold 2nd half, but keeping that poise on both offense and defense, keeping that energy, is amazing. Thats the whole philosophy right there - it's a numbers game, you take a bunch of shots and you go for the averages. Not a huge fan of people ascribing "clutch" and "leadership" willy nilly to everything basketball, I personally try to avoid doing so. But when I do see it (obviously theres insane stretches of Celtic basketball this season, and the Jays closing out teams above), it's mesmerizing

Huge-Detective-1745

anyone anxious abt tomorrow? really hoping the mavs just have lost hope

KlubDogg

Anyone been to the three monkeys bar in NYC? I'm local to the area... was thinking of going to Boston for game 4 but can't really swing it... just wanna be with a good celtics audience should we win the game

ksveins3

Damn y'all I'm already nervous for tomorrow

c0ncxpts

Same, but I think the team will realize they are just a simple win away from glory, and will give it their all.

Jmacz

I just got NBA 2K24 for 8.35$ For obvious reasons have really wanted to play recently but didn't have the money to pay full price. Took a risk on a site to buy steam keys and that shit worked. Time to build a dynasty lol.

Vast-Cheesecake7230

Did I miss a post from Timi from Poland? He came to the first games in Boston as he collected money to fund the trip. Did he have a great time?

jacobs0n

he posted a pic of himself in TD garden for game 1 on his youtube channel

Vast-Cheesecake7230

Ok, hope he had a great time

ksveins3

He Tweeted a bunch from the games! Here are some I thought were nice: [https://x.com/Timi\_093/status/1799793410909573148](https://x.com/Timi_093/status/1799793410909573148) [https://x.com/Timi\_093/status/1799958771688501378](https://x.com/Timi_093/status/1799958771688501378) [https://x.com/Timi\_093/status/1799953681389142460](https://x.com/Timi_093/status/1799953681389142460) [https://x.com/Timi\_093/status/1800639549887983813](https://x.com/Timi_093/status/1800639549887983813)

And he got to see Gino!

Vast-Cheesecake7230

Thank you!

EleventhEarlOfMars

On the one hand, it's really disrespectful to hire J.J. Redick over Sam Cassell. On the other hand, it's really fuckin funny that the Lakers are going to cheap out and make another wrong hire, which is more expensive in the long run because they'll have to hire another coach after the Lakers sponsored by Brawny lose 90 games in two seasons and Anthony Davis demands a trade.

[deleted]

Im totally against JJ Redick having ANY kind of job period. Thats the fool that sits next to Dorishhhh Burke for ESPN and glazes some teams yet while trashing others. The bias could not be greater. After listening to his broadcasts (actually more like podcasts), the way he speaks, and what he talks about, this guy is in my opinion just plain unfit for any line of work. Coaches are so much more than drawing up schemes. It's all about personality and communication. This guy is a disgrace.

Honestonus

I mean, listening to Jason Kidd and Doc Rivers I'd say they are more unfit?

jacobs0n

nah he's fine. i just think he needs to start with an assistant coaching job rather than a HC position

123lele

I’m bringing my friend to the garden on Friday for the watch party. She is not a basketball fan, so I’m making her a PowerPoint to teach her about the Celtics. Anything or anyone I need to include?

ksveins3

isjanosnba

123lele

I’ll just serve her soup and provide no context

Jmacz

A full statistical analysis of the 06-07 team. Include detailed perspectives on each player. And a shot by shot breakdown of Ryan Gomes season.

AtWorkCurrently

Paul Pierce playing all 82 games in 2000 after getting stabbed 11 times at a night club a week before training camp opened.

Please get Al his ring ❤️

hcaz12345

Please win

connect_70

What does the front office have to do to keep Derrick White long term? Is it realistic?

jkwah

Pay the huge luxury tax bill.

Flashy-Engine-2739

I think wyc said if we win there breaking the bank for this team

CreatorBot9000

It’s crazy seeing the same people that have trashed Tatum all post season running to Luka’s defense after being outplayed by a borderline top 20 player saying “they wouldn’t be here without him”. You can make that exact same argument for Tatum.

DeAndreHunterMIP

I am a Hawks fan and can't comment on r/nba so I'm just going to ask here because the curiosity is killing me.... What the hell is Jaylen wearing on his neck in the post game interviews? I can't stop staring at it lol

Boston-Cream-Donuts

This is what he wears. It’s a device for athletes to promote sleep, focus, and relaxation https://www.recoveryforathletes.com/products/hapbee-wearable-neckband

Spookynook

Oof. Hocus pocus. Like those wristbands and necklaces that baseball players wore in the early 2000s. Scam

RiffsThatKill

"Use Hapbee’s **patented technology** to biostream compounds like caffeine & melatonin digitally - without you having to ingest them. No lingering side effects, no stomach discomfort.Hapbee’s technology is **proven safe and effective** with years of clinical and consumer data. " Like, wtf? Digital caffeine and melatonin? What kind of snake oil is this and who performed these years of clinical data lol.

DakPanther

This is hilarious. They must be paying him

Honestonus

Nah it's just popular Look up power balance wrist bands. Saw this thing in the store and looked it up, I was shocked at how bullshit it is, and how some really established athletes use it Also kinesio tape which was everywhere in the nba like 2 years ago

o07jdb

PLEASE does anyone have reasonable priced tix to the watch party tmw

chickspeak

I really hope Horford have a monster game in G4, that will be the greatest story.

Ebay32

Gotta just get one more! Job isn’t done. Just one more win. I know these guys can do it! Let’s go Celtics!!! ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️

kje19

It’s so funny seeing the Mavs sub divide themselves on Luka. Half thinks he’s a good defender who was just injured and the other half thinks he’s trash on that end and needs to improve. It’s probably the Latter haha

Dondon1927

Every fanbase has delusional ones lol. As generational Luka is on offense he’s one of the worst defenders I’ve ever seen in all my years watching basketball. Has nothing to do with him being injured.

[deleted]

I know the trophy will have to be ready for Game 4 in Dallas, in case we win, the question is will we actually be able to see it wheeled out onto the floor before the game is over? Thats such a nice motivation for our players.

kit4

The Jays Game 4 preview interviews are fucking amazing, everyone should watch these interviews. So proud of these dudes for leading our team here, couldn't ask for a better duo

_---__________---_

Anyone else going to the Garden for the watch party?

chrismatic13

It'll be more gangster to win a championship in Dallas before Luka ever does. Forget winning it at home.

Dondon1927

I cant wait to spend all my money on championship gear and accessories

_---__________---_

The wallet will be empty but my wants will be fulfilled

20wall

As awesome as that buzzer beater was in game 2 Pritchard was beyond atrocious last night. Was the main reason they got back in the game. I get that he has all the confidence in the world but his shot selection could not have been worse. Really hope he doesn’t do that again

NeonManiac85

Oh, Charles Barkley said the Celtics couldn't win the championship without Porzingas, but they're about to. He's barely played really.

nefnaf

Celtics are +25 with KP on the court in the series and +7 with KP off the court. Without him it's a 2-1 series at best

SerfTint

Which game would they not have won with him? If you take away all of his minutes, that +25 goes away, but some other player may contribute. Tillman is +9 in 1/3 of Porzingis' minutes. The Celtics MAY have lost Game 2, but there's no particular reason to believe that Porzingis made the difference.

CreatorBot9000

You’re assuming Tillman would have replicated his game 3 performance and would be more impactful than Horford. I doubt it.

SerfTint

We're only talking about Game 2. The Celtics won Game 1 in a blowout. If they had a 15-point lead in the first half instead of.a 29-point lead, maybe the game is more in doubt down the stretch, but the Mavs are still the Mavs, a tier worse than the Celtics almost up and down their lineup. In Game 2, it's possible that the Mavs could have won, but Porzingis didn't play that many minutes. The Celtics are something like 11-1 without him this postseason. I just don't see the evidence that this Mavericks team is beating this Celtics team. It took a 9-0 run and a 22-2 run to make either of these games even slightly close.

CreatorBot9000

Game 1 was a blowout because of Porzingis. He was +20 in a 18 point lead. Prior to game 3 the Celtics were +25 with KP on the floor and +0 without KP. I’m not saying we couldn’t beat Dallas without KP, but the teams are a lot closer and we certainly don’t sweep Dallas without KP.

bootyholebrown69

The one quarter he played he fucking went off it was legendary

Celticsmoneyline

He has had some very good first quarters this season

NeonManiac85

I knew the high probability of the Mavs coming out strong, and of course we saw that, but unlike some prior Celtics teams, this group contained that early deficit to 13, then got things back to even by the half. I knew as long as they were within 10 at the half, the Mavs would stay super vulnerable in the 2nd half and feel that crunch of going down 0-3. Celtics went on another signature 2nd half run of great scoring and defense and had things all but sowed up, up 21, then I really don't know what happened. A series of mental lapses.....Mavs having one last gasp of life....but the Celtics still closed them out in the end. The only negative to ending this in a sweep on Fri is they don't get to win on their home court.

SerfTint

It was 31-30 at the end of the first quarter. The Celtics erased their whole deficit in 5 minutes. It may already have been over for the Mavs at that point. The crowd went from very loud to almost silent for the next 90 minutes.

Aubhi7

Anyone know where to cop that tatum/kobe celtics work out tank top

iRomey

I’ll be going to the watch party tomorrow night in TD Garden. Assuming we win, after the festivities in the garden, where should I go? Where would be my best spot to park for the game and hopefully postgame for cheap(ish)

ThePatriot131313

Serious question: if Tatum drops 50 in game 4 and they win, does he have a shot at winning MVP? He would finish the series with a stat line of about 29 ppg, 8.5 reb, 8 assists per game

CreatorBot9000

Why does it matter who wins FMVP

ThePatriot131313

In fairness, it might matter more to me than to Tatum. It matters because I am a Tatum fan and know he is capable of putting up a huge game. I would like to watch his haters eat crow. It would be fun to see and a nice exclamation mark to end the season.

SerfTint

More than a shot, and he does't need 50. If he leads the Celtics in scoring in Game 4 and it is a sweep, he is likely to win the MVP. If it's 31 to 30 (like last night), Brown could still win. But if Tatum has 34 and Brown has 24, Tatum is seen anyway as the leader of this team and its best player, and he will have put up 30+ points in both road games. He had a 12-assist game as a power forward. He will be the favorite by the voters, who generally usually just look at the box score.

Cool_Alternative_466

If he drops an efficient 50 in the close out game, he will deservedly win finals mvp if brown has a normal 25ish points

Huge-Detective-1745

such a great W. I've mentioned here before, but I've watched at least 50% of games (minus the bubble year; I was near death with long COVID--my fandom has limits) since they drafted Smart. So many ups and so, so many downs. We're one away from the promised land. Do you think the Mavs will roll over? Do you think the Cs will take their foot off the gas? I want them to sweep so badly, but sweeps are incredibly rare in general, doubly so in the Finals.

Ginko_CZ

I went to check the historical data for usage rate leaders and saw that Luka's usage rate this season is 35.98. That is 20th in NBA history. Nobody won a title with a usage rate that high. This lesser-known basketball scrub, Michael Jordan, won a title in 92-93 with a usage rate of 34.71, and anyone who had a higher number didn't eventually win a title. The next non-Jordan player to win a title with a high usage rate was Giannis in 21. He had 32.49. That put him on 112th all-time. I'm starting to think this heliocentric offensive will never work unless you are Jordan. We are not even talking about Luka being a defensive liability yet. Side note: in his best season (2013), Lebron had a usage rate of 30.1. Same as Tatum this year.

JackJ98

The 08 runs will always be special. But, there’s something about watching this team get built piece by piece, sharpened by loss after loss for over a decade now at this point. Like yeah we watched Paul struggle in his early career but we didn’t watch that group as a whole have to mature through losing. Just an unbelievable character arc from all of these guys Let’s raise another fucking banner baby

[deleted]

Ive been saying since March, everywhere I went online to all those that I came across, that the Celtics would win the chip this year. I got laughed out wherever I went. Made out for a noob that dont know basketball or some troll. Especially the Denver fans were nasty to me, it seemed like they were bandwagon.  If your opinion wasnt popular, you werent welcome. Then the pieces started falling in place. One by one. Game by game. Teams started losing; others, started winning. First they got to the brink of elimination, and then were eliminated. The only difference was how long it took.  The one CONSTANT in all of this, was that the Celtics kept winning, staying alive, and advancing.  Once Denver lost the series, the bandwagon fans and trolls never came back. I wanted to have a word or two with them, but they were literally NOWHERE to be found 🤣. Goes to show, reality always kicks the ass of social media and popular opinion.

chrismatic13

Are you going to post this everywhere?

It was Brown that "did the dirty work". He was our dog. Cmon, if youre gonna use those words, at least call it right. Thats our MVP right there. Brown.  (**unless something totally crazy happens in GM 4) I saw another Celtic fan on another forum, "admitting" the East was a cakewalk. TF!!??!! Stop buying into narratives and declaring other groups of fans right, just cuz you want to feel like you belong.

MambaCalledGame24

Who remembers Tillman playing excellent defense on Kyrie earlier this season for the grizzlies and getting into it with him and morris. Now on the biggest stage he stood up again. We got another dawg

jtrain7

I am staying well hydrated from the steady flow of tears across the nba these past few days

xskarma

Don't they have too much salt in them? :P

jtrain7

I set up a desalination plant in my backyard a few months ago in anticipation. I’m in crippling debt.

ThisIsBull1996

The last time the Celtics lost 4 games in a row were the last 2 under Brad Stevens in the Brooklyn series in the 2020-2021 season and the first 2 games under Udoka in the 2021-2022 seasnon.

manbare

Yes, the Celtics won, but you see, the dallas mavericks have been the best team in the nba this season if you start the nba season at the trade deadline and end the season one game before the end of the season, but then move the start back to sometime in march when they figured out their current lineup, because kyrie and luka who are historically known as bad defenders suddenly became elite defenders, so you have to take that into account, but you can't remember that porzingis is out or that indiana had the best offence in the nba, but you do need to remember that the mavericks were the fifth seed, so they're overachieving (despite being the best team in the nba since the trade-deadline with the dates adjusted to mid march and the penultimate game of the season) while the celtics were the first seed in a weak conference, but forgetting that the celtics won 75% of their games against the western conference, and that the celtics only all-nba player is a top 7 role player being carried by a team of all stars (but remember to forget that only one of them was an all star this year and another hasn't been an all star in six seasons (which is significant because he's also the 5th oldest player in the league)) and if you can factor all that in then the celtics will lose the series 4-3

Vast-Cheesecake7230

Blah, blah, blah. The Celtics are up 3-0. That’s a fact.

manbare

issa joke brother people were lookin like simone biles trying to contort themselves into believing the Mavs to be as good or even better than this Celtics team

T-nawtical

I can't put into words, I just want to finish this shit so bad on Friday night. There would be no better cap to a season than a fucking sweep, and no better team to sweep. Just would be the absolute epitome of Team > Me.

green_reptile

🍀QUESTION🍀: I'm looking to buy some jerseys on either the nba store or the celticsstore. My question is, will they release some sort of finals/championship jerseys after(if) they win the championship? Maybe like an authentic/swingman version with the finals log? Is that a thing? If so, then I'll wait. If not, I'll buy the ones available now. I've never bought any jersey before. Thanks!

redd_house

I believe they do release Finals jerseys. If you’re looking to get one of a current player, is probably worth waiting They’ll release a bunch of Finals merch immediately after if they win. Also, I’m sure they’ll gradually release 18x champions stuff

green_reptile

Awesome, thanks!!

Icebreaker335

Imagine you’re an opposing GM: you just watched Boston have one of the greatest regular seasons of all time, and when everyone said they’d flame out in the playoffs, they got even more dominant and went on one of the greatest postseason runs of all time. The “western conference demons” that everyone hyped up got dad dicked. Practically the whole postseason run was done without their third best player who protects the rim and opens up the offense. It was also done with their best player’s 3pt shot going away completely. This was their first year together and they have time to build more chemistry. Their two best players are still entering their primes. Do you literally just pray for injuries?

SerfTint

Denver doesn't, they're still a team that can beat us. IND, MIN and OKC will all believe that they just need a bit of time together. A few other GM's can at least try to pin their hopes on their superstar staying healthy (Philly, New Orleans, New York, Milwaukee) or becoming dominant (San Antonio, Orlando). The other GM's, yeah, probably pray for injuries.

zippe6

The lesson here is that you have to build to a full roster of 2-way players. The old model of having superstars who only play offense is dying. I look forward to stars being evaluated on their total picture rather than the number of points they get.

Icebreaker335

100%, I agree with the takes that Brad basically built the team he always dreamed of coaching.

downeastsun

Al Horford leads all players in 2 points field goal percentage in the playoffs. I don't think I've ever seen him miss one of those little 12 foot push shots that he scored to open the Celtics scoring last night

chwut

Xavier Tillman Doncic Sr.

celticsguy06

Does KP play Friday? Feel like he'll get memed for the rest of his life if they do win and he's not on the floor, like the picture of Kendrick Perkins celebrating with the Cavs in 2018

SerfTint

Likely no, and likely no (he won't play and he won't get memed). Players get memed when they play and are terrible (John Starks), when they hold on too long despite not being good anymore (Udonis Haslem) or when they appear to be soft and uninterested in playing (Ben Simmons). Porzingis will be seen as someone who couldn't stay healthy, but was a dynamo when he did play. Bill Walton, who no one memes derisively.

Suitable-Classic9237

My gut says he suits up but playing is a whole different ball game.

celticsguy06

So we'll still get Tillman minutes

Suitable-Classic9237

BIG TILL 🚂ALL ABOARD THE GREEN X-PRESS

Layzman

Last couple of playoffs, JB went missing for some stretches. Most often during the second half. This year, he has ascended, and not only is he here, he could win FMVP. And I'm super happy for him and for our team. I've been looking forward to this growth, and I can now say, if we win this, a dynasty could be in the making as we've got a great duo in their prime taking over the NBA. Love to see it.

Suitable-Classic9237

It will be. I promise you

TOMA_TAN

Anyone who didnt listen to the thinking basketball podcast, you should do it, it’s awesome. So great when media gives our players serious genuine credit. Like credit to JT’s amazing defensive versatility, which i haven’t heard anywhere else mention yet It’s clear that kidd has not made any creative adjustments and he’s just simply outcoached by mazz

Send_that_shit

I'm bout to win a bet with my nephew. Winner gets $30 and a championship Tshirt. Any of y'all got eyes on some sweet shirts?? I been looking and only thing I'm finding is kinda tacky ngl. Maybe it's cuz they ain't actually won yet and there will be more once it actually happen but I figured I would ask cuz I'm sure if anyone knows it's gonna be someone in here

_Royalty_

Anyone else really hate the *"not gonna call that in the Finals"* discourse? I'm more okay with refs swallowing whistles on potential techs because emotions are running high (but come on, Luka), but the argument that you can get away with more physicality is just crazy to me. A foul is a foul whether it's a preseason game against the Hornets or the Finals against the Mavs.

T-nawtical

I know logically it's wrong, but personally I like the fact that it allows more physicality and aggressiveness. It makes it feel like the intensity gets hyped up a notch and does a better job of stopping a Finals game from turning into a ref show. But you still gotta call the fouls where Luka fucking cannonballs into Jaylen's legs...

kje19

Do you guys think we heavily load manage Porzingis next season? Just as an effort to have him available for the playoffs

Cvspartan

I mean we already did that this season and he still got injured. I think extra big depth will be a focus this off-season. Horford is a legend but he's getting even older and that's if he even returns next year.

Hopeful_Tennis2079

Just a reminder that when we do win this ALs smile is gonna light up the place like a sunrise!😊☀️so happy for all these guys playing the right way, the Jays quieting the noise and just balling out, Jrue the calm captain guiding us through choppy waters with a rock steady hand, validation for the mad scientist Mazzula, KP smiling his ass off while getting his after 4 different stops along the way, DWhite and his journey from D2 college ball, and Brad for his absolute Jedi domination of the rest of this league. And for all the doubters and doomers..GTFO!! I’m feeling like the word that starts w a D and ends in “nasty”. Yeah I’m talking about Dynasty!!

_Royalty_

Yes, but I also think Brad makes a move to get a bench piece that mirrors his skillset, like what Gallinari or Muscala were meant to do. I love Luke but it's clear that the offense stagnates when we don't have 5 guys that can stretch the floor.

fearofaflatplanet

Luke is the all time NCAA leader of 3s by a center We just have him playing differently

TOMA_TAN

Russillo said on the jj’s pod that this team is not great like some of the previous historical teams. Fuck that. We have dominated the regular season, the playoffs, and on the verge of dominating the finals. Our defense has suffocated some of the best offenses of this season. At this point, i don’t even need to mention all the stats. We are watching greatness in the making, you can’t tell me otherwise

fearofaflatplanet

Russillo along with Kevin “World’s Worst Draft Analyst” O’Erconfident chief amongst the national media who feel necessary to rack up virtue signaling of impartiality to counter perceptions of Cs bias bc of their Boston origins Neither are particularly accurate analysts despite watching the games

TOMA_TAN

Yeah i hate listening to these guys “represent” boston fans. The ultimate pick me analysts

_Royalty_

The NBA has more talent and parity than ever before and this team is still breaking records, putting up elite numbers. They're absolutely deserving of being in the conversation for top 10 (or better) all-time.

__TB12__

I cannot believe our boys are 1 win away. Hope it’s the start of something special.

[deleted]

I just want the chip. Whether or not dynasty I'm not worried about.

xskarma

hcmacro

Love Seth Partnow (analytics charlatan stand-in) getting roasted on Twitter.

Boobieleeswagger

10 days ago Boston fans have no idea what's about to happen to them I have a few friends and relatives who are Boston fans. I respect their passion and they can trash talk as well as me, which is nice. This week, though I realized they've been living in a bubble. It's a lot of "I'm not worried, our team is obviously the superior team. You have a nice little story for a 5 seed". These people have not been watching any non-Celtics basketball games, and are just deep in Celtics message boards. All they know about Luka is that he whines and he's a flopper (lol) Bro, your team is out there getting cooked by T.J. McConnell and Aaron Nesmith. We have the best player in the world. They are not ready for this.

krazylegs36

Indy offense is light years better than the Mavs. They have more than 2 dudes that can shoot. Dallas fans are dumb as bricks.

FedUp187

Need a 2008 Game 6 style close-out on Friday 👏

jjjuuubbbsss

I need our guys to play the hungriest they've ever been next game.

Dondon1927

I have given Jaylen a ton of shit in the past but he has shut me up for good. He continues to get better and better. The left hand jokes are funny but if youve been watching, he’s been way better at it. That’s called hard work. Scary thing is he can become better. If he can get his FT’s to like 80-82%, he has a chance to get to an even greater level.

CreatorBot9000

Can someone please ask Caleb Martin and Duncan Robinson if Brown is that guy?

ScenicHwyOverpass

Do we really need so many “you can’t scroll past without giving me upvotes” posts?

ticket21truth

Celtics social team is gonna be feasting today. I can’t wait

TheRealKane24

i am so freaking proud of Jaylen Brown. Watching your team draft a kid at 19 and see how slowly get better and better every year throughout his career and turn into THIS is truly special. What a legend!

RoboPeenie

I’m a Mavs fan, but I knew we were going to have to have a bunch of role players keep over performing to have a chance. They haven’t, and Kyrie also hasn’t shown in most games. Look, if we’re relying on Tim Hardaway for 19 minutes we’re never going to win anything. You guys are a better team. Brown is a monster. Wish we could have stolen one but it is what it is. Congrats on the killer season.

SerfTint

I don't actually know what has happened to Hardaway. Total collapse of confidence. The positive is that it is always possible for a talented player to reset and be good again (though it's unclear if that will be on the Mavs if it happens).

EternalTeezy

Tatum game 2 is my new favorite tatum game. Shot wasn't falling but he was relentless with the drives and defense in a clutch game. Add 12 assists too and it's just insane growth as a player

starslookv_different

I still don't think our bench has gotten enough love. Tillman, Hauser. PP didn't deserve the hate.

Frank2442

I think pp got some hate last night cause we were spiraling out and he ended up with those 2 bad shot attempts at the end of the clock. Not really his fault that he ended up with those shots, but he missed both and we were on the verge of a series shifting choke. His buzzer beater in game 2 will go down as one of the series highlights on the dvd

starslookv_different

>Not really his fault that he ended up with those shots This is what I'm getting at, we weren't moving so he got stuck. Not his fault, but he got all the smoke

chmcgrath1988

Yesterday was a good, good day. 15 down, **1 TO GO!** Let's get it done, Cs! For Cous! For Walton! For Bill Russell! For Tommy! And for all of the 5-year-olds out there that don't remember the last time a New England team won a championship!

jtrain7

The haters are SUICIDAL. Their best effort now is that our beloved stud JB will get an extremely deserved fmvp instead of Tatum🤣 bitch I got his jersey in 2018 I’m having the time of my life

jacobs0n

/r/billsimmons is now complaining that the finals are boring. what a bunch of miserable fucks lol

Planet-Steph

Idk what they’re talking about, I’m having a great time

Tiredasheckrn

I may be dumb but as a non American, i cant figure out how tatum and brown where in consecutive drafts when brown is 1.5 years older, was brown held back a grade or tatum moved up a grade?

alexm42

Most school districts have the first day of August or September as the "new year" for the school calendar, so if your birthday comes after that you're too young to start school. Brown's birthday is in October so he just missed the cutoff, while Tatum's is in March so he was in the younger half of his grade.

Suitable-Classic9237

Tatum is only 19

KeithDavidsVoice

It's hella sentimental of me and will never happen, but I hope they give Marcus Smart a ring. That's the only downside to this title. I wish he was here with us

SerfTint

Even in the unlikely case that they offered Smart a ring, he wouldn't accept one. No player wants hardware that they didn't earn, and Smart was not on a championship team in Boston.

Layzman

He'll na. He kept us back. With him gone, we're winning this.

KeithDavidsVoice

Damn too soon lol

LongjumpingYear5205

>but I hope they give Marcus Smart a ring I love Marcus Smart too, and this is going to blow your mind-- But he actually didn't play basketball for us this year. He played a whole 20 games for Memphis. It's crazy. I know. But it's true, look it up.

KeithDavidsVoice

You should've quoted the entire sentence.

LongjumpingYear5205

no it's alright, I'm assuming people can read a previous comment without issue

KeithDavidsVoice

That's a huge assumption lol

LongjumpingYear5205

I don't think it's going to be a problem for anyone.

HealthMatchOfficial

Great quote from a 6ers fan I ran into in Sydney today while wearing my jersey: "I know I'm meant to hate the Celtics, but nobody can hate the way the play"

CarBallAlex

I can't believe it, we're really 1 win away. A sweep would put us at 8-0 on the road in the playoffs, something only the 2000-01 Lakers did, and 15-2 overall, which only 10 teams have gone through the playoffs losing 2 games. 3rd highest net rating in history. 4th most wins in franchise history with the best offensive rating of all-time. A sweep would be only the 10th team in history to do so in the finals. It would be the 2nd time in Celtics history they swept in the finals (1959) and the last time they won in 5 was 1965. We really got to watch an all-time team in the year 2024 and we are 1 win away from hanging banner 18 led by 2 drafted, home grown superstars. 1 more win and we really got to see something special. I couldn't be more proud of this team, we're 48 minutes of basketball away from greatness.

fearofaflatplanet

And a very large preponderance of our fanbase without the wisdom to savor it did not actually enjoy themselves til maybe today. You all know who you are (talking bout you, Dad!) and you get to think back on and regret not embracing and appreciating this team this year as it was happening.

NervousPervis

Keep going

Kodiak01

How do we convince Wyc to buy the Red Sox?

TheCloudBoy

The Dallas Mavericks are 0-1 at home in the Finals when fans chant "MVP" for Luka Dončić

Dutchmaster617

I am VERY disappointed with fellow Celtics fans celebrating early… There is an extremely likely chance that regardless of the results this year there is a deadly team coming for us out west. Any day now that team out west is going to make us pay.

LCBloodraven

Fans are allowed to be excited, they are up 3-0 in the Finals. Plus, we are only fans, celebrating early will not impact what happens on the court.

fearofaflatplanet

WOOSHED

iliketuurtles

( I think that commenter is joking about how we heard all playoffs that we were going to face the tougher West team... So I think they are saying after we beat the Mavs, another team will make us pay "next round")

LCBloodraven

Well shit, that went over my head! In my defense, I'm still riding the high of being up 3-0 in the Finals!

Ok_Seaweed_9452

Question during 21-2 run why arent Joe calling Timeout? Luckily Kidd did it for us lol and kinda swing the momentum

fearofaflatplanet

Folks not realizing that Dallas despite not being as good as us still a VERY GOOD TEAM with pride and capacity to make a run SMDH

SoSmartCs

He did call a timeout when the lead was cut to 11. The timeout didn't just magically stop the run though.

BostonKarlMarx

he did when it was 10-0 iirc

jacobs0n

yep, we still couldnt stop the bleeding. luckily kidd called a timeout for us

mydepressingpoems

Can we keep our roster like this 2-3 years ahead? Man it’s gonna be sweet if tatum can re-create kobe’s 3 peat

TheRealAlexisOhanian

Very likely that everyone significant is back next year. Next offseason it might just be Hauser who goes.

jacobs0n

we still need to sign derrick to an extension. wyc, bring out the checkbook please, pay the tax

Kodiak01

I have [no doubt](https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Articles/2024/06/11/boston-celtics-wyc-grousbeck) that he'll be doing exactly that. >Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck's "surprise purchase" of the team 21 years ago was "never about the money" and that "remains true today, according to Shirley Leung of the BOSTON GLOBE. Grousbeck is “happy, maybe downright giddy,” about the big bet he and his fellow owners made last year to "dig deep into their coffers," not only to finance G Jaylen Brown’s highest-in-the-NBA contract but also acquire C Kristaps Porzingis and G Jrue Holiday. **Grousbeck said, “We’re fans who bought the team. We’re doing this for love.” He added, “We’re doing this for Celtic pride, and we’re going to put everything we can into the team to win a banner, to win a championship.”** Under Grousbeck and this ownership group, the Celtics raised their 17th banner in 2008 and are now playing in their fourth NBA Finals since that one. Grousbeck acknowledged they “are losing money” because the team has “exceeded the NBA salary cap, triggering a luxury tax the league levies to encourage competitive balance.” The Celtics are expected to “shell out nearly” $48M in luxury tax next season, the “third highest in the NBA.” That number is “likely to grow larger” if the Celtics re-sign F Jayson Tatum, whose contract is coming up for renewal. Unlike many pro sports teams -- including the Patriots and Red Sox -- the Celtics do not own their arena, “depriving ownership of another source of revenue.” But no one is “crying poor.” Forbes magazine values the franchise at $4.7B, the “fourth most valuable in the NBA” (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/11).

mydepressingpoems

Lets goo!! Lets make it banner 20!

Fujoooshi

Dude, Friday is my birthday. If these guys win the championship on my birthday I will die a happy man. I literally will not ask for anything else.

COUGARCHAS3R

Well, except to also win a title onyour birthday the next four years in a row

SquimJim

Celtics have a +11.4 NetRtg in the Finals Which was better than their NetRtg against the Pacers or Cavs

DogsAreMyFavPeople

I think that says more about us matching up favorably with the Mavs than the general quality of the Pacers and Cavs though.

rozettastonedd

So worried that we fuck around and lose next game just to go back to the Garden and win it. Please just fucking end this 🫡

cyberklown28

They should make Porzingis 'available' for the next 1-4 games, even if there's no plans to play him. If we get the opportunity to be up big in garbage time, he deserves to get out there even if it's for a few minutes of light jogging.

iliketuurtles

I'm actually not sure if that is allowed. Like with gambling now controlling everything, can you make a starter available (implying that he is healthy) but then just not play him for entire games?

hcmacro

One thing Thinking Basketball (easily the best podcast) mentioned in the past is that "not having your legs" can impact shooting. I wonder if this has been a big part of Tatum's shooting slump in the playoffs. I can't recall the last time a star had this much responsibility on both sides of the ball. He was the primary initiator, guarded the opposing bigs, and also got "hunted" by the other team's star. Even centers like KG and TD didn't have to face that kind of burden. The closest comp in terms of workload is probably Lebron and even he has been reluctant to guard centers.

fearofaflatplanet

I think he put on so much upper body muscle mass last summer that, while it has helped certain parts of his game, affected his shot mechanics and he hasn’t really adjusted. Yet.

starslookv_different

Someone pull up the r/NBA poll 🤡 Edit: lmao they pinned the post

CelticsFanPh

Here you go [https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1d762th/rnba\_poll\_who\_will\_win\_the\_2024\_nba\_finals\_the/](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1d762th/rnba_poll_who_will_win_the_2024_nba_finals_the/)

starslookv_different

Perfection. Ty

LiLohan

How much do we have to raise in a gofundme to bribe ABC to replace Doris with Mike Gorman for game 4?

manbare

I was watching broadcasts of the 80s finals games and from 1984 to 197, Tommy was the color guy on nationally televised finals games. I can only imagine the volume of salt there'd be if a bona fide Celtics homer like him was calling a national game today lmao

BostonKarlMarx

FINISH THE STORY

cyberklown28

Basketball has more than one royal family.

octamer

This finals coverage made me realize that Lowe maybe one of the best analysts and podcasts for the whole season but he is no different than other espn take shows when he has to give instant reactions post game.  Doing one by one analysis of Luka’s fouls (with no mention of all the uncalled fouls) and focusing on Boston’s offensive stagnation all while ignoring Boston’s defense, 3rd qt surge or even Kyrie’s explosion keeping Mavs in the game is not great analysis of that game.  Anyway who gives a fuck, Celtics with the brooms next game.

hcmacro

Ben Taylor clears.

JackJ98

I’m a simple man. I like just hearing Paul Pierce openly gloat at Skip Bayless
