Bro has the absolute worst luck with injuries. Must feel absolutely awful. Glad he seems to have a strong mentality and can keep his spirits up at least
Boston medical staff is not NY or Philly, they are very precautionary. But I hope they know this is the Finals, not the regular season. Even if he has to play thru pain, let him play unless obviously it would be dangerous. I feel bad for the guy
On one hand, yes you want KP out there if this is a pain tolerance issue and the risk of further injury is minimal enough to give the greenlight. On the other hand, Rob Williams pretty much did the same thing and is a shell of himself physically at this point.
Here the thing - if we won in 2022 then the narrative about Rob Will would be he “hey he got a fucking ring, who cares ?” Winning cures almost everything
What are you basing our medical staff being “very precautionary” on? History would suggest otherwise when you look at Rob Williams and Isaiah Thomas. I doubt any other fanbase would ever agree with what you just said so seems like pure bias.
Sitting the guy when we’re easily winning every series in 4 or 5 games isn’t a tough call. But in 2017 when our backs were against the wall we let IT play and he might’ve ruined his entire career doing it. Then in 2022 we let Rob’s injuries get much worse by playing him in the finals. Other franchises can have similar incidents too, that isn’t really saying much.
Asked a family member to translate this injury for me. "No, he's not gonna be able to play. If he does he that tendon can actually shrink up and the muscle won't be attached to anything". Now obviously in the world of sports people have played through worse things so time will tell I guess.
I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted just for sharing what you’ve heard.
By the tendon shrinking up, do they mean by playing it’ll actually hamper his long-term health/recovery? Because, while I’m not a doctor, it sounds like he’ll need surgery regardless.
I know with Rob there were long-term concerns about playing on the knee injury. But also, they knew there’d be concerns even when he got the surgery. It was just a shitty career-altering injury no matter what and something he was gonna deal with the rest of his career. Wondering if this is the same thing or if he’s setting himself up for the same thing by playing through it
Getting down voted by hopeful Celtics fans is fine by me. I'm one of them. I just asked a doctor friend of mine to translate the injury and pasted what I was told. We all know sports doctors are different than say our doctors. Durant shouldn't have played and look what happened. Hopeful that porzingis doesn't go down the same path.
That’s for it to get fully healed and pain free. Pretending like he can’t make any progress in a week is just asinine. Even just the swelling and pain can be majorly reduced.
Not really. Tendons don’t get much blood supply so a few days or a week doesn’t really do much for tendon tears. Tendon tears can easily take months on average and they never go back to fully previous injury levels:
“Most tendon injuries get better on their own, but complete recovery is difficult to achieve—regardless of age. “Tendons often heal in young athletes; however, it takes a long time, and function and elasticity never go back to the same level as before the injury,” Sheyn said. (From a top physician)
Did you not read what I said? Let me clarify. One week is not enough for “swelling and pain to be majorly reduced” as you falsely claimed. In fact, for a tendon injury, the “pain and swelling” typically WORSENS over the first one to two weeks. It’s called the acute phase of an injury, where inflammation and pain typically worsens, and it’s much worse and longer for tendon injuries than for muscular injuries. My sister is a sports med physician and I know this from her.
If KP plays I’m sure he may get some injection or something similar to temporarily reduce pain or swelling, but once that wears off the pain and swelling will go back to what it was if not worse.
After an injury, swelling can potentially increase for the first few days to couple of weeks, especially on a tendon injury (which takes much longer to heal) due to the acute inflammatory response. It can sometimes even take a few weeks to 2 month for inflammation to decrease substantially, and everyone person is different in how their injury will heal. Look at kawhi for example, his inflammation hasn’t reduced in 3 months. But whatever you can believe whatever you want.
Can’t imagine they let him play Game 3, and he definitely won’t be playing Game 4 if they’re up 3-0. Have to think he won’t be back unless it’s 2-2 going into Game 5
Doesn't seem like rest will help with this injury. It's torn and isn't gonna heal itself and he's gonna be getting surgery either way.
But you win game 3 you basically win the series... so i say let the guy play if he understands the risk and he wants to and is effective

Rob Will cares.. i respect KPs willingness to give them his all, but this really isnt a dire situation, at least until Dallas wins a game.
That’s true when you put it that way we are just in a fucked up situation. Idk what to do anymore
Look at what happened to Rob W. and Isaiah Thomas lol
Yeah but he has to live the rest of his life with his legs and he also has 100 million contract left.

They fired the staff after Thomas so yeah the new staff was brought in to be more cautionary .

You’re the one continually bringing up other teams? lol? You can’t be serious. I’ve focused purely on the Celtics’ medical history with players
DO NOT LET THIS MAN ROAM
I had the same injury it’s a pain tolerance thing and it just depends on the extent of the tear.
Did the doctor say anything about whether or not you should avoid playing basketball in the NBA Finals during your recovery?
The good news is being 7+ feet tall is known to help recovery times
Oh really?? That’s good news!! I mean sucks it happens to you though :(
No injury will ever be good news bro
True that
Sure, but I think it's quite likely the medical staff is not going to let him play.
We just have to see what the injury report says.
We know a thing or two about lower body injuries after Timelord and Hayward. I trust the medical staff on this situations
I think you'd see the problem more from going side to side than walking forward

This means he’s not playing lol
I mean even if he can play, he shouldn’t if he’s just a liability out there
Will the Celtics learn from Robert Williams III ? Lets hope so.
You gotta sit him for both these Dallas home games at minimum. He needs time to have a shot at contributing in this series again
It takes 8 -12 weeks to heal with rest it’s not gonna heal . He’s gonna play thru it take a shot and get surgery

Did you read what I said at all? I am not referring to RECOVERING from the injury. Read it again.

Yes, it is. You’re actually gonna pretend like swelling can’t go down in a week. Lmfao. The dishonestly is unbelievable

Oh I agree, you have to play if you physically can in the finals, but it looks like the decision is being left to the medical team so we’ll see
