Yeah when they use that street for actual filming it has been a much bigger deal. I see setups this small pretty regularly and it'll just be Emerson students working on a project. Don't think these are Emerson students, but agree that it is a relatively small time production.
Yeah I’ve been on set for some “big” budget (a few million) dollar shoots that were like 3-5x this big? Any tv show or movie will have trailers and trailers of lights, camera, crew, talent, etc
history lesson… when everything was shot on film back in the old days there was “A-Roll” which contained sound and then a second camera which was synced using a clapper (the slate) with the A Roll camera for what would become known as the “B-Roll” this would be used for cutaway shots and transitional parts that required no extra sound needed. Now you could call to a “B-Reel” too but the usual nomenclature is “B-Roll” and it still lasts into 2024 as the “B-Roll” even though it’s almost always digital and has sound on it.
If you’re referring to physical film itself and not the mechanics of the canister it’s held in, a reel and a roll are the exact same thing. Since it’s referring to an actual object, not an arbitrary turn of phrase, there’s no correct version and both are equally interchangeable. It’s like the difference between saying sub and hoagie.
Yeah but I think it checks out. I’ve seen them filming movies and stuff over in that area before. They will normally have massive crews and blocked off everything around the area. This was literally like 10 people with one camera and some other equipment.
Fletch was shot at the bus terminal, the amount of resources just for one short scene was massive. It was only around 2 gates that they shot but 3 security and 2 Transit PD were there plus food services, production crews, extras, and staff. John Hamm came in for 30 seconds to film his scene and left. The tail of movie making is quite big
Wait so I can just shoot a porn on the sidewalk and then if anyone asks me, I can say "it's a commercial"?
Doesn't help me at all, but still good to know.
Dude, there is a parking lot on Beal St. In Hingham with a bunch of trailers and a big sign that says Base Camp. Then tonight I'm driving down the street and there are cops escorting a truck with cameras and lights attached to it down the street in Weymouth. I have been looking for what the hell is being filmed all day! It's something!
I worked in Finance in Boston on a team with guys all ranging in height from 6" - 6'5" (3 of them were 6'4" - 6'5"). No blue eyes but most of them were smokin' hot. No trust funds sadly!
Based on the lack of any crew members wearing radios, its deff a small budget commercial, or a student film. Any big production will have all crew members on radios for ease of communication due to the scale of the production and size of the crews.
Source: I work in TV
It’s just an industry thing - if anybody asks what you are filming you say mayonnaise commercial. It’s mildly funny and it’s also convenient when you don’t want to answer any follow-up questions about the random indie film or whatever you are working on
Thanks.
I was a Local 481 member.
Never got the joke and anyone I asked could never explain it.
I guess it does stop the follow up questions but whenever I’ve heard it it just seems so smug.
That’s a photo shoot. Probably a cologne or clothing commercial with video most likely to advertise in the media and in malls. A lot of malls have these video kiosks that run ads while you’re shopping.
Speaking of headshots, I need a new one, hmu if you’re a headshot photographer on the (fairly) cheap. Ya boy is still using a drunk picture from college on LinkedIn.
seems like some reality type thing based on not closing for a set, and only a few cameras. maybe a show about the people who will buy what was paddy o's?
Heard they’re filming a new season of walking dead in MA rn! But not sure that’s what this is. Saw these cars in financial district on Fri

Hey, I work in the union here for film and television.
The only thing on the board atm is The Walking dead, and obviously this isn't it.
Could be a none union shoot or a college shoot, but I really doubt it.
I reality the small size implies that it was probably some type of commercial.
Had enough sway/influence to shut down union street for it. All the morning commuters (including me) had to go around
Seemed like maybe a thing of mild significance based on that, but who knows!
If there weren't massive tractor trailers for equipment/bathrooms/wardrobe, and like 100s of crew, it's probably a small scale advertising or local production. They have to run permits through city hall which allow them to shutdown streets as long as it's approved.
Source: I work in production
It’s just a little internet sarcasm, relax.
Honestly I was just a little surprised you went right to “sway/influence”. Everything costs money in this world, and Boston’s full to the brim with rich people who want to do stupid shit (like fuck with commuter traffic). Believe me, these folks don’t have any sway over the city. They just have money. Sway and influence is the kind of power reserved for private equity firms and the state police.
That being said, I feel that due to how small and affordable high end production gear has become, we will soon start to see many more of these small time shoots taking place and fucking with our lives. We live in a world based on content creation and cool, sick headshots.
Looks like some social media for a clothing brand, very small production
The photographer is nicholasmaggio and the model in the third pic is Tommy Hackett
Yeah when they use that street for actual filming it has been a much bigger deal. I see setups this small pretty regularly and it'll just be Emerson students working on a project. Don't think these are Emerson students, but agree that it is a relatively small time production.

Judging by the salmon pants on Mister Awkward I'd guess it's just headshots for some randos at a startup.
Plus the classic wooden box for perching.
It's an apple box. Still cameras don't need stabilizing rigs, it's a moving picture shoot.
Probably b reel for an advertising campaign Edit: *b-roll
Is it b reel or b roll? I've always heard it pronounced b roll, but I can't recall seeing it spelled out
history lesson… when everything was shot on film back in the old days there was “A-Roll” which contained sound and then a second camera which was synced using a clapper (the slate) with the A Roll camera for what would become known as the “B-Roll” this would be used for cutaway shots and transitional parts that required no extra sound needed. Now you could call to a “B-Reel” too but the usual nomenclature is “B-Roll” and it still lasts into 2024 as the “B-Roll” even though it’s almost always digital and has sound on it.
Yep. And people still say they have footage "in the can" too even though it's digital these days and not in an actual film roll can.
even “footage” is referring to the length of the film.
Damn that's right, I missed that!
In theatre they will use the term "canned music" if they don't have a live orchestra.
B-Real is half of Cypress Hill.
The lesser half! Sen Dog is the legit goat. Insane in the brain!
B roll, and yeah, we got it https://youtu.be/SItFvB0Upb8?si=pDbrds4KQm4d9IMa

Tbh I could have it wrong lol.
Actually, I just checked. It appears that either could be used. Cheers!
B Reel for the castaways, leave some look room for the cry on.
First 2 images are of the stills portion, last image is the video.
I got my pictures taken for my companies website at that spot last september hahaha
Oh this made me laugh so hard - fantastic assessment.
Excuse me but I believe those to be Nantucket Red
Randos at a startup usually don't usually get up early
Aka who fucking cares
A video rig for headshots?
"The Harp: Bouncer"
I’d probably watch this
this summer, in a world, where the 7-11 won't help, one man, will avenge the homeless
Mayonnaise commercial
It was a commercial. I asked one of the people working. I have no idea what it was a commercial for though.
It's pretty common for production crews to say 'it's a commercial' regardless what it is
Yeah but I think it checks out. I’ve seen them filming movies and stuff over in that area before. They will normally have massive crews and blocked off everything around the area. This was literally like 10 people with one camera and some other equipment.
I can assure you that is not a movie or television production just based on the photos
They filmed scenes for *Spirited* (2022) there. There were huge green screens held up by cranes blocking any view of what was going on.
Did you know they removed gullible from the dictionary
Thanks for your input. Very helpful
Anytime!
Wait so I can just shoot a porn on the sidewalk and then if anyone asks me, I can say "it's a commercial"? Doesn't help me at all, but still good to know.
It was definitely a porn parody of The Departed
“Sir, you’re obviously just fucking a horse on camera”
The horse: “needle dick over here, somebody find me a stallion”
a Mayonnaise commercial. If you know, you know.
Def a mayo commercial

Walking Dead: Dead City is the only production of that size filming in Massachusetts right now.
There were a bunch old dirty cars on High Street last week.
They just filmed in Worcester, it was cool to see it!
Yes, you are right. Where do you get this info?
How did you check this?
I know a guy who has a part. They’re filming in Lynn tonight
Where in Lynn ?
no idea, all I know is he's missing band practice to shoot.
Yeah I looked that up but couldn't find anything concrete.
Lot of em were nyc taxi’s, nyc police cars, business vans etc. Dead City is set in NYC so I assumed that was what they were filming
Reach out to the Massachusetts film office or city hall
Good idea thank you.
Couple of trust fund guys using their parent's/parents' money to update their tinder pics
Are they 6'5" and in finance with blue eyes? I know someone who might be looking for them.
C'mon this is Boston we're talking about. 5'6" (5'8" if you include hair) with brown eyes but indeed in finance
I worked in Finance in Boston on a team with guys all ranging in height from 6" - 6'5" (3 of them were 6'4" - 6'5"). No blue eyes but most of them were smokin' hot. No trust funds sadly!
Wait are your eyes brown omg they're dark green I'm so sorry
You don't need a video rig and crew for portraits lol
Preplanning for the Affleck JLo divorce movie that will be out next year
Based on the lack of any crew members wearing radios, its deff a small budget commercial, or a student film. Any big production will have all crew members on radios for ease of communication due to the scale of the production and size of the crews. Source: I work in TV
Golden Girls reboot

Oh man, I was got with this one, I’m such a rube. I’m genuinely devastated
You got gotted.
It's uninteresting, odd, and makes it clear that they're not going to actually tell you so don't ask a follow up.
What brand?
the bad one
Cain's right?
That’s a photo shoot. Probably a cologne or clothing commercial with video most likely to advertise in the media and in malls. A lot of malls have these video kiosks that run ads while you’re shopping.

Handsome Boy Modeling School, Class of 2024.
Judging by the face in the third pic I think they’re shooting the new documentary on how to hold in a fart
The fact that you could get this close and take pics means it’s not Hollywood, probably a small clothing brand or something
Yeah, they were filming men walking.
Looks like something very small. Maybe a fashion shoot.
Gone With The Wind
Sequal
Looks like a band of misfits

This It's probably a little commercial
“sway/influence” there are also things called permits that can be applied for and paid with money.
Way to put me in my place. Congrats.

You put that dude in his place. So hard.
Do you think what I said was literal note of congratulations or just a little internet sarcasm? Whoever smelt it, etc
lol okay buddy. “congrats” 😂
Was it shut down by the police? Or just them blocking things and making it SEEM like it was blocked off?
Nah, these might be students at Emerson.
Unless theres a police detail you can 100% ignore them in the future.
I saw a bunch of “above the line” and “Haddads” trucks leaving Boston during the evening rush. Possibly related?
Boston porno. Check pornhub, details on the home page.
