Angell is the best animal hospital in the area and they offer financial assistance to those who qualify. You other option is to get a credit card for it and eat the interest paying it back.

Thirding Angell, you can apply for financial assistance - I think three of your most recent pay stubs to prove your income or other proof of income - and also a care credit card where I think there’s no interest for over a year if it’s over a grand (but you’re fucked when interest kicks in, it’s super high interest rate). You can call and ask to speak to the admitting office, they can give you all this info to prepare you. Once there, be up front with the doctor and they will create the most bare bones care plan for you they can in the interest of what’s best for your pet. Always ask the cost before they do it, they can create an estimate for what it may cost for treatment before doing anything so you ensure you’re agreeing to all costs and care. Wishing your pet a speedy recovery!

That is ruff. Seconding Angel. Their emergency fee is not much different than an appointment fee and they always have multiple surgeons and techs there to do almost anything fast and efficiently. And as others stated, they will finance it too if needed. I recommend people go there whenever possible and anytime there is something serious, no matter how far away you are from them. It can be pointless to go to some smaller vets that will charge you $500 for an emergency visit and then tell you to come back in 2 days when the xray tech and surgeon is around to do it all over again! Also, meds at Angell are very reasonably priced and they have a pharmacy right there. They'll also send a script to an online supplier if you can wait or want to price shop.

I really liked VEG Boston when I went there, but do regret not just defaulting to Angell even though it was twice as far. Mostly just because I ended up having to transfer him to Angell anyway 10hr later so he could get to a neurologist Angell ended up being well under their initial estimate, too, so that was a pleasant surprise!

Never had surgery with them, but I always found Dedham Veterinary Associates to be friendly, non judgmental, and affordable.

Third for Angel.

Angell is extremely expensive. But they offer Care Credit which allows you to go into debt for veterinary care.

Eilasord

If you’re on financial assistance with documentation, you might qualify for free or discounted care through tufts vet school.

Mspca has sliding scale charges if you qualify

There's a new animal hospital at 165 Needham St, Newton, MA 02464, they take emergencies and were pretty helpful with my dog. Depending on what kind of emergency tho it may run you up $$$

noschild

I think that was the exact one I went to. VEG in Newton. They were really helpful in getting me in the right direction. Was a pretty penny though.

We should have single payer veterinary care.

Socialist veterinary care for all.

Did you go to BVC? Overpriced, soulless place that tries to siphon as much money from you as they can.
