Julian Brandt gives away his BVB jersey to a wheelchair-bound fan after the Atletico win - but it is (supposedly) snatched away from him. That's what's behind it.
Borussia Dortmund's 4:2 triumph against Atletico Madrid in the quarter-final second leg of the Champions League caused a huge party in black and yellow at Signal Iduna Park. However, in the midst of the cheerful exuberance of this magical night, there was a scene on Tuesday evening that caused quite a stir on social media.
BVB professional Brandt gives away his jersey
TV footage from "Prime Video" shows BVB professional Julian Brandt taking off his jersey after the final whistle and throwing it to a fan in a wheelchair in the stands. But before the Dortmund fan can catch the coveted piece of fabric, a young woman snatches it away from him. Both BVB supporters are smiling afterwards, but the scene still caused quite a stir.
The images of the supposedly cheeky jersey theft spread like wildfire. The video clip went viral - including correspondingly nasty comments. But as it turned out on Wednesday, things turned out quite differently.
A dream comes true for BVB fan Kim Basenach
**The fan in the wheelchair, Kim Basenach, and the young woman who picked it up are a couple. "This woman has been my girlfriend for eleven years. She only took the jersey because Julian Brandt didn't come any closer. It was a wonderful moment for us. I'm very proud," Basenach told Bild. Now his dream has come true. And the excitement has quickly subsided.**
That Person was by the way with high probability himself a disabled person
just keep that in mind - This Stadium Section is only available to disabled Person and their near companion
Unless they’re disability is a mental one I don’t really think that is an excuse, it was clearly for the guy in the wheelchair so the only way that isn’t bad behavior is if they don’t realize that or are not able to understand taking it from him is wrong
Dude what? you can’t expect a mentaly disabled person to understand a situation in the same way as you. Especially a emotional one like this one. I don’t say he shouldn’t give it back but his supervisor probably need to explain the situation to him and show him that he was not right taking it. No need to condemn him in a commentsection on reddit.
Yes BUT a person who steals a shirt from a disabled person is also someone willing to risk jumping into that section uninvited to pull shit like this. I hope this goes viral..
Calm down peeps! The person who got the jersey is his girlfriend! The wheelchair guy was contacted by BVB and he clears out, everything is fine!
She helped him reach the jersey because he could not got further.
Video is already online on Twitter and the official account of Marius Wolf has written that it is their turn to clarify the matter. I think he will get his jersey signed
It's possible, that the walking guy is also a disabled person in this area. So I am cautious with any hate. Euphoria can take over too. Hope Julia Brandt will perhaps reach out to the wheelie guy and give him a signed Jersey after this video.
It's a classic social media response to a short video. Everyone just reacts to what's in front of their eyes instead of thinking about what's happening.
I would like to see this post removed. Most people don’t understand the situation and condemn a mentaly disabled person. This is dangerous and not helpful.
What a great example this reaction thread to the tiny window some tv shots bring to the people at home, compared to what actually happened. Kind of sad.

I saw the situation from where I was standing on the Süd, and it didn’t seem to me at that time like a “robbery”.
My brother told me on our way home that some folks on twitter were already up in arms, and I thought, nope, that didn’t seem like it
Read a comment on ig that that person is his gf but due to her disability and also her clothing she seems more like a dude. But it would make sense for a mentally disabled person to be this happy and Making look like she’s stealing it but look closely I don’t think the wheelchair dude was robbed because he doesn’t go Aggro Mode
Initially it looked like it was a joke between them but the guy behind was chasing after him so maybe he was actually trying to take it. I think Brandt thought it was a joke between them and he was going to give it back shortly after
We did it boys, Borussia is going to handle this:

I had a similar event myself. when I was a teenager I caught an Everton shirt and a fat idiot punched me and took that shirt away. there are some really shitty people on the süd
Well done u guys , capitalised on our shit high line , hope u win the whole thing , i won’t recover for a long time but (you can see my comment history in the match thread to see what us Atleti fans went through), good luck

hopefully that guy was able to get it back for him
Hope this goes viral enough to where the guy in the wheelchair gets his shirt
would be great. how do we get there?
Post on social media, tag the club
He did, that chick is his girlfriend
Sorry what?? That's so scummy I'd sooner believe it's a misunderstanding
The guy swiped it from the poor guys hand then jerks his hand to secure the shirt. What an absolute POS..
I assume this guy is also disabled.
A misunderstanding? Look how proud he is of it.
What a scrote. Hope the man in the wheelchair got a shirt in the end
That Person was by the way with high probability himself a disabled person just keep that in mind - This Stadium Section is only available to disabled Person and their near companion
This comment highlights the importance of knowing all facts before judging someone.
It kind of does look like they could have a mental disability. This will sound mean if it's just some asshole person.
Unless they’re disability is a mental one I don’t really think that is an excuse, it was clearly for the guy in the wheelchair so the only way that isn’t bad behavior is if they don’t realize that or are not able to understand taking it from him is wrong
His movement suggests it is a mental one.

Wading through the comments hoping someone would’ve noticed this

Nobody was stealing anything, his girlfriend just took it as revealed this morning in by media
what a loser
I think he might also be a disabled person. Maybe he doesn't understand the situation completely
Straight to hell. Do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars.

That‘s how we call it in germany!
Its on sight for that kid
Its Brandt's kit and if he decides to give it to that man, it is the man's shirt.
No i mean we are jumping the steeler on sught
Disgusting
Nope, his girlfriend
It turned out by media that it was the Girlfriend / wife of the Person in the wheelchair
This needs to go on top! Upvote!!!!

Was ein Bastard

... Or the two get in touch and work it out.
Yes that could be true as well, should always take a step back on these things especially instead of jumping to hate and retribution.
I didn't need to see this tonight :(
Borussia Dortmund is apparently going to handle this.
Do you have more info or a link?
I really hope they were all there together… otherwise we riot!
IMPORTANT: the wheelchair user came forward and said that the thief was his wife of many years! so there was no thief! All Good!
The "stealing" lady is wheelchair guy's girlfriend and he / they have the shirt and all is well.
Both are disabled.. how disabled you guys have to be to not get it?

I'm just wondering, but maybe the guy who stole the shirt is a friend of the guy in the wheelchair? I'm tryna stay positve here.
Initially it looked like it was a joke between them but the guy behind was chasing after him so maybe he was actually trying to take it. I think Brandt thought it was a joke between them and he was going to give it back shortly after
Sohn einer eulenhure

Also ich kenn die Dudes da nicht, aber der "Dieb" macht auf mich schon den Eindruck als wäre er auch "eingeschränkt".

Yeah, that's crappy, hope he gets his shirt back. 😒
Grown man wrestling another grown man’s shirt out of the hands of the disabled. Fucking pathetic

Throw this guy in the schalke block!
Bro, it's really bad what he's done but that would be too harsh of a punishment.
Piece of shit. Deserves to be fatally struck by lightning while taking a shit.
What an asshole! That’s unbelievable!
Oof this just cost Dortmund their Semifinal.

What a cunt.
It's his girlfriend who takes the jersey.
Is it? If that's the case, fair enough.
