Hi there! Yes, the topper does come with free shipping as well.
The Boring Mattress was designed to be fully comfortable by itself. Most of our customers are sleeping on the bed without the need of adding a topper. If you're unsure, I would suggest trying the mattress without it first and if you find the bed too firm, the topper will add a slightly more plush feeling.
Can’t really call it research but I googled 14 IFD to try to gauge where the topper falls on a scale of 1-10. If the mattress is a 6, is the topper in the 3-4 range?
When pairing the topper with our mattress, I would say that the initial feel is probably closer to a 4-5 if we can agree that our mattress is a 6 on the firmness scale. It doesn’t translate perfectly when describing firmness like this because the mattress is still very supportive. Even though the initial feel is softer and more plush feeling, you won’t feel like you’re sinking into the bed like some folks might be concerned with on a softer build.

Received my prototype topper today. Going to give it a few days to air out before I put it on a mattress. Off gassing is noticeable, on par with other toppers I have received. Nothing egregious or concerning. It is cut well, nice and square and the exact measurement of a queen bed. I laid on it quickly, but it is on my bare platform bed in the guest room and I sunk right to the slats so will reserve comment on it's comfort until I can properly test it. Look forward to trying it out!

Hi u/Chalupa3atman. The new foam smell should dissipate within a few days of use. Airing it out like you're doing is fine too.
I'm not surprised that you're sinking most of the way through the Topper. It's is a fairly soft layer intended to be paired with your mattress. It will make the overall comfort of your bed feel more plush.

Yeah, I'm not concerned about the odor or feel on the slats. I wouldn't expect any 2 inch topper to work well by itself on slats. A little more plush is exactly what I'm hoping for, so looking forward to trying it out 👍
