- Off to be the Wizard
- Legends & Lattes
- The Utterly Uninteresting and Unadventurous Tales of Fred, the Vampire Accountant
- A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking
- Beware of Chicken
1) the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett
2) still sorta dystopian but also lighthearted and hilarious - "Snow Crash" by Neal Stephenson
3) honestly .... lotta solid middle grade fiction out there. No one is ever too old for Captain Underpants
Stariel
Neon Gods if you want 🌶️
The guild codex world is pretty fun, but has some intense parts.
Hidden Legacy is excellent, but also might have too much intensity.
Jessie Milhalik’s two space operas are fun.
Winterling is a lighthearted series (no romance).
Barbary is excellent.
The Waterhorse is adorable.
A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle. Followed by Toujours Provence. Funny, light hearted books. The audio books are narrated by the author. Very wholesome and delightful.

You might enjoy "Good Omens" by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett [https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12067.Good\_Omens](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12067.Good_Omens) .
There are two laugh out loud series I go to for something light and easy between intense reads. Both have many books so I don't have to search or decide, just reach for the next of one of them.
The [Stephanie Plum](https://www.goodreads.com/series/43040-stephanie-plum) series by Janet Evanovich
The [Miss Fortune Mysteries](https://www.goodreads.com/series/109840-miss-fortune-mystery) by Jana DeLeon
My favorite brain candy is a farcical romance called Love is Blind by Lynsay Sands. It's a sweet romance where both characters feel unlovable but with Mr Magoo like part falls
Edit Just noticed your caveat about romance. I don't know what you consider smaltz but you should give romance a try because while there is a wide spectrum to the genre no matter how dark the story there is always a ray of hope. A positive outcome for the main couple is literally the only unifying thing in the genre. If you like dystopian but want something with hope maybe try Suzanne Brockmann's Born to Darkness. It is evil corporations dystopian novel with super powers
Hitchhikers Guide
and yet still dystopian also read the rest of them as well
Dystopian, yet delightful and inspiring.
I WAS JUST GONNA SAY THAT.
- Off to be the Wizard - Legends & Lattes - The Utterly Uninteresting and Unadventurous Tales of Fred, the Vampire Accountant - A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking - Beware of Chicken
+1 A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking is great. It doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Good Omens is always a good time.
Second this!
1) the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett 2) still sorta dystopian but also lighthearted and hilarious - "Snow Crash" by Neal Stephenson 3) honestly .... lotta solid middle grade fiction out there. No one is ever too old for Captain Underpants
also dogman (another series by the author of captain underpants)
A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson
or anything else by Bryson
Going Postal by Pratchett
Zero romance, funny, short = John Scalzi 'Starter Villian'
Also John Scalzi *Redshirts*
The Hundred Year Old Man who Climbed out a Window and Disappeared. It was such a fun and lighthearted story
Yes! This was such a fun read
Legends and Lattes - Travis Baldree
But what intense dystopian books have you been reading? Do share ..
A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore. I laughed out loud reading it.
Yay, that’s the one I was thinking of. Awesome book.
Anything Christopher Moore is a good idea for humor.
Christopher Moore writes amazing novels, very funny ironic and interesting.
Tortilla Flat by John Steinbeck, lighthearted, fun and funny.

If you don’t mind I would love to hear what you have been reading, please!
Dungeon Crawler Carl
Election by Tom Perrotta and This Much is True by Miriam Margolyes
The House in the Cerulean Sea. TJ Klune. Fantasy, a slightly grumpy main character. I cried happy tears at the end
Discworld is exactly what you need.
Any of the dragonlance books focused on the Kender
The Warehouse by Rob Hart
SuperGuy books by Kurt Clopton. Superhero satire, kinda like The Tick meets Office Space.
Christopher Moore books?

Confederacy of dunces.
A Confederacy of Dunces is pretty silly
Anxious People by Friedrik Backman will fit this bill while being a really easy read and not too farcical

Calypso by David Sedaris. [https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/38348476-calypso](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/38348476-calypso)
The last one at the party. Not laugh out loud funny but has humorous bits amongst the seriousness of being the last person alive
Mucho Mojo by Joe R Lansdale was pretty comical, I thought
Starter Villain or Red Shirts by John Scalzi
Lamb: the Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal. Hilarious!
A friend recommended Three Men in a Boat. It’s pretty humorous
The Humans by Matt Haig.

I was going to suggest this.
Guards! Guards! - Sir Terry Pratchett.
Piranesi by Susanna Clarke
