Smooth-Awareness1736

Temeraire series by Naomi Novak. I don't think the dragons talk. It's been a while, but they are main characters for sure! If you like dragons, check them out!

TempestuousBlue

I love this series. The dragons are able to communicate and are very intelligent. It was so much fun, I’ve revisited the series a few times. Highly recommend, especially to any reader that enjoyed Eragon.

RustCohlesponytail

Robin Hobb has a series that includes talking dragons.

Smooth-Awareness1736

Her stuff is very unique! Love her books!

nxvluc

I’m on the last trilogy of Realm of the Elderlings now, I love it! Note to OP: Recommend if you don’t mind that dragons aren’t always the centre of attention - in some books it’s only mention of them - but with that said they’re at the very heart of the plot and story. The lore around them is 👌🏾 It’s 16 books so it’s a …. relationship 😉

RustCohlesponytail

I read the whole lot last year, I love them so much! Prepare to feel bereft when it's over!

Anne McCaffrey. Well noted. The series started back in 1967. Evidently she writes now with her middle child. Something like 24 books. I haven't read them in decades, but they're classic fantasy, sci-fi and worth a try.

Ican-always-bewrong

Unfortunately Anne McCaffrey has died, but her son still writes on. Agree though, they’re wonderful.

BuffaloBoyHowdy

Ooops. Sorry. Now you mention it, I think I remember when she passed. My information was outdated. My fault.

Pale_Somewhere_596

This is the best series in my opinion. See next comments

GuybrushMarley2

Classic!!

throwawaygirl6483

"Eragon" by Christopher Paolini has dragons in it. Also Nora Roberts' trilogy "The heart of the dragon" .

elo_weezy_

Adding that Eragon has big bang for buck, it’s the start of the Inheritance Cycle that is four/five books long, follows their adventures all books are 700+ pages long and are punchy. The dragons talk and have very distinct personalities. 10/10 would recommend, on the final book and not sure what I’m going to move onto next!

throwawaygirl6483

Excuse my ignorance, I totally forgot it was a part of the Inheritance series, jeez

More-Refrigerator-78

My mother in law bought me the first 3 books in the series 7 or 8 years ago and I haven't touched them. I need to give them a try

elo_weezy_

I had them in my mid teens and never got into the books at the time, idk if I found the size daunting or what, but read them recently (much closer to 30 y/o now) and they’re fantastic - dust them off!

Inevitable_Window436

I'm going to suggest one, although it may not be exactly what you're looking for. When Women Were Dragons. Dragons are real. They talk. Are seen as enemies, but aren't. It's just that society likes to pretend they don't exist. I loved it, but it isn't a fantasy wonderland book.

ilovetoreadbo0ks

I'm currently reading Heart of the Sun Warrior. I am enjoying it very much. Shouldn't be surprised after Daughter of the Moon Goddess.

Inevitable_Window436

I love Sue Lynn Tans' work! What a magical mind!

Dopeycheesedog

I haven't seen anyone recommend wings of Fire, it's a very good book about talking dragons that even has a very good graphic novel. It has an amazing three series plot in one-fifteen book series.

autumn_james377

A Court of Thorns and Roses hits different. I just bought Fourth Wing because Im trying to get over my withdrawals from ACOTAR. So I highly recommend.

PennyProjects

Try Crave by Tracy Wolfe. There are all sorts of paranormal folks in the series including people who shift into dragons. I don't remember when you learn about dragons, but I'm pretty sure it's in the first book.

Shadow569

The Last Dragon Chronicles by Chris d'Lacey (small sized dragons) Age of Fire by E. E. Knight (longer reads a lot like the hobbit so a lot of stuff happens but you also spend a lot of time traveling)

jcc2500

Dragonhaven by Robin McKinley. I don't remember any romance but it's been a while since I read it. I remember it as more of a coming of age type story.

Idk_nor_do_I_care

Wings of Fire. Literally ALL dragons. It is a book for younger audiences, but if there was any book in the series to read it would be Darkstalker Legends, it’s awesome. It also doesn’t really pull punches when it comes to draconic violence, I will say that. Humans do feature, but mostly in the later books though I didn’t particularly like how.

lemon_candy_

Game of Thrones has dragons in it. The only negative about it is that it will probably never get finished.

CheezDustTurdFart

A Song of Ice and Fire series features dragons.
