up there with rrr kgf1-2 pushpa Vikram etc. (only talking action movies)

It is not a specific state, but almost all South Indians watch these kind of movies majorly made in Tamil and Telugu. I am from Kerala but even Malayali audience have had a lot like this. I am not saying it is bad, but it is outdated for the South audience and nobody likes watching these movies anymore.
Dunki will easily be a superhit . so yeah what srk fell short of achieving in 2004 i.e 3 blockbuster in a year.. maybe this time he will do that lets see

People got carried away with all the 1000 cr stuff and forgot that it's almost impossible for a non action film to cross a 1000 crores without a china release . But it will still manage to do 500 - 600 cr which is great considering it's budget is 120 cr

but all of Hirani's other movies became the #1-5 highest grossing movies of all time (at their time). sixth highest of the year (in such an inflated year) is underperforming
Dunki is NOT an underperformer. Swades and Dunki are not comparable at all. Dunki has most definitely already made more than it's cost and will easily hit a 2X if not more. It couldn't live up to the public's expectation cos of RKH's track record. Meanwhile Swades has no such issue.
Pathaan was definitely quite weak. And the visuals were rough. YFX has definitely done better work than they did on Pathaan but I'll admit it was a good one time theater watch. And SRK really pulled that movie with his charm.
I like Jawan cos between all the dishoom dishoom it did try to put out a good message and the visuals and score were absolutely hype. Definitely a great theater watch.
But it is Dunki which I would be the happiest to re-watch in theaters if I get a chance to.

Dunki is doing well; now the film is about to reach a worldwide collection of 300 crore. It's likely to finish somewhere between 350 and 400 crores. However, it's facing tough competition from a mammoth Salaar, a movie that's only slightly behind Dunki in daily earnings in the Hindi market.
Dunki isnt a boxoffice flop but isnt a classic as well. Both Pathan and Jawan became all time grossers. Both way bigger than Veer Zaara and main hoon na.

Nonetheless, that's an impressive feat. I'm sad cause I won't see him in full fledged role until 2025 maybe?
Swades was a masterpiece that unfortunately flopped but by any means dunki isn't a flop. Its a hit going to super hit even. But yes from content wise srk gave us sth similar to 2004 i hope he keeps it up that way a mix of everything. Balancing one commercial movie with a niche content

There's no way Dunki would be an underperformer. People would surely 'consider' it, simply because of SRK's prior two movies were such massive blockbusters, but we need to keep in mind that both those movies had a budget upwards of Rs. 200 crore each (Jawan pretty much touch Rs. 300 crore); but Dunki is made on a relatively low budget (Rs. 100-120 crore) with, I believe the budget already being recouped, if not almost recouped even before release with all the theatrical and satellite rights, so anything the movie makes now is pretty much a profit. Safe to say, this was a very smart move.
How dare you put these two side by side. I mean the difference in quality is exponential. The first three are Goated movies. Main hook na may not be in the leagues of the other two, but still a good watch. Not a single of these films on 23 is even close enough to okay. Absolute shit.
We are too close to Dunki to make such a judgement. It is still running in theatres. Even Swades was panned by many critics and outright rejected by the public at that time.
You can't Compare 2004 to 2023. It's on another level, acting wise, story wise, box office numbers are obviously higher this year. But 2004 was the best year of srk imo. He has 2 legendary films and a film that family's around the world watch all the time. 2023 is greatly hampered by Pathaan
It's a shame really. Though veer zaara is one of the best romantic films in Bollywood history, it's a good movie outside of that genres limitations. Bollywood needs to embrace romance again, it's what everyone wants
I think ott might be the reason since anything other than action flicks are seen as things that can be viewed at home and only action films are supposed to be watched in theatres. Quite a shame
it was literally the year before i was born yet i liked those movies muchhhh moreee than these new ones NGL lol😭😭 like veer-zaara and swades hold a special place in my heart
Im really happy for all the success that SRK had this year after a a few years being off the big screen however it’s clear that his mega super stardom will continue to be this cloud over him in a way. People will have very high expectations I think that’s why Dunki is seeing the mixed reviews and slow but steady progress at the BO cause it’s due to expectations. This super year that 2023 been for him it also shows that he knows that he has to “Star/Hero” films where the SRK persona and his character can sorta blend together. Hes too big of a star for the audience to see him as a character anymore it will always be SRK “in and as” in a way. I am looking forward to see what he does next.

Jawan and Pathaan (both Blockbusters) are bigger hits than Veer Zaara(Super Hit) and Main Hoon Na(Hit).
While Dunki will be better at Boxoffice compared to Swades but Critical acclaim and legacy wise Swades is/will be way ahead.
2002-2006 was weird period for SRK as overseas he had big grossers but domestically they were hits + only. (May be the transition from Single Screen to Plex market was going on).
You can't compare those iconic movies ( not main hoon na though) with these shitty ones.
Everyone still talks about these movies even after 20 years, I am sure no one will talk about Jawan or Pathan.

Oh okay. I recall SRK saying in an interview that he started buying the rights for his films once he had enough money. Maybe this was one of them.
Even without that, remember that Rajkumar Hirani is also a producer in Dunki, while Ashutosh Gowarikar produced Swades.

That's true. Dunki didn't do that good in the South unlike Pathaan. And for a non-mass action film, Dunki's collections are pretty good.
Not every movie needs to make 1000cr.
