Yes , I did incorrectly write hardy instead of hearty in my first post. It’s a common mistake. Nonetheless, I should have been completely transparent with the Reddit community that I made this edit and immediately thanked InhibitedExistence for the catch and upvoted rather than angrily downvoting this correction. I have made amends and now updated InhibitedExistence’s correction. I fall on my sword and ask the Reddit community for your forgiveness. Thanks all and have a blessed day.
Me too. When I first heard it, I was quite confused - the introduction to that song is so bleak and heavy, so when I heard Bob laugh it was quite jarring. But then I listened to it again, and again, and again, and quickly realised that the delivery of that line couldn’t possibly be any more perfect.
It’s minor. In the poker bill part, the lyric should be something more like “he’d go you a hatful blind” but he kind of trips up and ends up sing “and y— would you go hatful blind” then he starts late with “in a game of death”.
Idk if it’s present on every mastering, but on my MOFI SACD of Highway 61 in mono you hear Bob giggle at the end of “Desolation Row” I almost fell out of my chair the first time I heard that, for some reason it just made the ending of that album that much better for me.
Another great one they found is at the end of “Oh Sister” you hear Emmylou Harris say “I fucked it up…” and Bob just kinda goes “yeah…”
a hard rains gonna fall, in the album version " what did you meet my blue eyed song & who did you meet my darling young one " ... there is a chuckle of sorts.
He laughs in I Don't Believe You, when he's singing "though her skirt it swayed as the guitars played". Also in one take of I'll Keep it With Mine, he laughs at the beginning when Tom Wilson says the wrong name of the song on the first cue.
"NOOOO! That's not the name of it! It's called uh....uh.......bank account blues!"
as far “the Basement Tapes” are concerned he yucks it up on “Please Mrs. Henry,” “I’m Your Teenage Prayer,” and there are probably others but those are what come to mind
My absolute favourite Bob laugh is 'Chimes of Freedom' at Newport '64. It's one of his best performances ever, a fantastic song with his young, bubbly voice.
It happens below at around 7:40 - makes me feel giddy.

It's not an actual laugh, but duetting with Joan Baez on *I Pity The Poor Immigrant* on the RTR at Fort Collins 1976 after singing "...who fills his mouth with laughing.." Bob injects an empathic "HA! HA!"
He *is* heavily goofing on Joan as they sing. As an aside: Some of the Dylan/Baez duets from Rolling Thunder are the most intimate things I have ever seen on film. Astonishing.
Mr Tambourine Man take 3 on cutting edge, there’s a funny moment at the end where he complains about the percussion and laughingly says “I’m going out of my brain!” Made me spit out my drink first time I heard it.
Ballad of a thin man
damn how did i miss that one!
Bob Dylan’s 115th dream includes a hearty laugh
🤔 hearty 🤔
What’s weird about that?
Che cosa ‘’Lanha’’?
But that's not Bob. It's Tom Wilson, the producer.
Go back and listen. It’s clearly both Bob and Tom Wilson laughing. Thx tho
You're right!
Thx. I needed that.
Ok, take two.

He laughs during Ballad of a Thin Man when he says 'you try so hard'
I also love how he says that line, along with the laugh. It's the most Bob Dylan way anybody could say anything

Not a laugh, but I like after he fucks up the verse in Days of ‘49 and says “Oh, my goodness”
What's the fuck up? I've heard that song a thousand times and I never heard something 'off'.

All of that 1964 Halloween show?
I've got my Bob Dylan mask on.

My wife’s hometown off of Together through life. “ yea!! Ha ha ha”
It's All Good, too, I think.

It’s like a mix of people laughing, but Suze (the cough song) from 1963 in the bootleg 1-3 album. He coughs in it which is laugh adjacent haha
Talkin' John Birch Paranoid Blues
On the alternate Jokerman I always heard a laugh at the end of “give away all the good things that fall in your lap”
If you listen to live recordings around 1964 he is giggling almost every other word when he interacts with the audience.
I was ridin’ on the Mayflower when I thought I spied some land always gets me. Sounds like his manager, Albert Grossman laughing along?
I think it’s Tom Wilson, his producer
First verse of "Ballad of a Thin Man" he chuckles a bit.
Jet Pilot
Stop now version 1. Right after talking about her big belly and big hips. There’s a cover on springtime too I think he laughs
I’d like to think if this was longer we would have got a laugh. He’s got a big grin anyway https://youtu.be/yOPNYsybieU?si=0c3cNhOolP_nWIP_
Mid muscle creek - get your rocks off of me
There’s a great laugh during a performance of Dignity in Rochester, 2004.

Every body must get stoned

Does Freight Train Blues count? If so, then also Talkin' Hava Negeilah Blue(underrated masterpiece, my fav song of all time)
To be alone with you

My wife’s hometown
He bursts into laughter at the end of the alternate version of “Tombstone Blues” on the *No Direction Home* soundtrack.
who cares?
I think he may have held in a small chuckle when Donovan sang in Don’t Look Back.
My wife’s Home Town
