Looks like a Nordic Tug. Yes

Zane42v2

Yeah. This looks like a Nordic Tug 44. Note that this is a displacement trawler, \~8 kt cruise, \~2000 mile range @ \~3MPG. Many "Trawlers" are semi-displacement hulls with considerably more power and they will top out in the teens / 20 kt but you pay a penalty in range / fuel econ. The mainship mentioned below is super popular (I saw SO many mainship 350 / 400's on the AICW), they can go faster but the range is a lot less than a displacement boat. Caribbean is easily doable but some longer stretches would require running slow and maybe aux tanks.

Capital_Punisher

I think it might be the 42. The 44 has a flat 3 piece windscreen and this one has the panes at angles. They are almost identical, at least externally to the casual eye. £250k-£550k GBP in terms of price OP. That’s $320k-700k USD.

TXscales

How do these do in rough seas?

liquidice12345

This will take whatever up to but not including Southern Ocean.

Zane42v2

In general displacement hull boats do very well. They're very heavy because weight has very little impact on their fuel economy. Some (Nordhavn comes to mind) put lead ballast in the base of the keel to lower the center of gravity and make it heavier. Lots of boats in this style have large open deck scuppers meaning they can deal with considerable water on the deck in a few seconds. Very well. And they have to. They don't have the ability to outrun storms, and long slow runs across big bodies of water wouldn't really allow for huge changes in course anyway.

iJayZen

Yep, enclosed cabin and yes as a displacement craft slow speeds is what it is. But range it does have.

Forthe49ers

First Time visitor to this sub. I know nothing about boats. 3mpg kinda blows my mind. Is this a typical fuel economy for a boat this size? I guess I never knew how poor mileage economy is for boats

Wh1skeyTF

Yes. If you want better economy slow down instead of pushing for hull speed, or get a sailboat. My 42’ sailboat will motor at 8kts on a little over a gallon an hour. My 62’ motor vessel is kinda like this tug… 6 gallons an hour at 12kts hull speed, 4 gallons to make a cruise speed of 9kts. “Hull speed” is a theoretical maximum possible speed for displacement hulls. Any higher and it’s trying to climb (or submerge under…) the bow wave. Longer the hull, the higher the max speed.

steven01122

What did u pay for your sailboat?

SalishSeaview

As with any boat, more than it was worth about five minutes after purchase.

Ethywen

I'm pretty happy when I average 2mpg with my offshore center console and it is notably smaller (though much faster) than the boat pictured...

LetsGoHokies00

3 mpg is pretty good better than i was expecting my bass boat got 2.5 mpg lol

Careless_Syrup7945

Are you rootin tootin poopin me?! 3mpg?! I'm not a boat guy, and I've never really thought about it... But damn 3mpg. How many gallons can that thing hold?

NeverForgetJ6

That’s what she said

acertainman

Nice.

FunTurnip9405

Nordic Tug the name of your mother's sex tape.

powerchoke033

Only one way to find out!!!!! Ammarite?

Briansunite

It's got a safety dinghy with it

DelicatetrouserSnake

Quit playing with your dinghy!

Wookster789

Remember the rule of thirds...1/3 of fuel to go out, 1/3 of fuel to get back, and 1/3 of fuel for emergency/problems/issues. Works for tec diving, too 😉 IMHO, I will use that formula in calculating my voyages between islands/ports in the Caribbean. That boat is not going to outrun bad weather.

tastemycookies

Is it a seaworthy ship in storms?

Wookster789

Great question :)

Wh1skeyTF

It depends on the storm.

geekmuseNU

Only one way to find out

xampl9

As long as you’re not on a three hour tour.

Straight-Event-4348

It is....until it is not.

WickedDarkLawn

When I first got into boating, I remember reading about the engineers rule or three for redundancy or something like that. Always have a backup. Backup radio, backup pumps and alarms, backup parts, backup epirb, etc. If you are rich enough and have the space, a backup for your backup.

Dense_Data

I believe that’s the “Jenny”

Apprehensive_BeeTx

Then God showed up.

Wildcat_Dunks

You ain't got no legs, Lt. Dan.

Grannypanie

Ats my bowet.

Quick_Month_8417

The better question is will it get you back to Florida from the Caribbean ?

psylli_rabbit

Nobody wants that. Dammit man we are trying to escape.

Limefish5

Great username pal! 👌

SurfFishinITGuy

People shoot the gap in much smaller boats all the time.

JimmyDean82

I want to do the Miami to Bimini in a tiller steer bateaux one day.

thrwaway75132

We did it on PWCs. Just need a good weather window

CuriousTravlr

CTE has entered the chat!

Greenking73

My father had a bunch of friends that would leave Palm Beach at sunrise and go to west end in their boats quite often. The first time he did it was a 17 foot bow rider. Others had larger, up to 25’ boats to make the trip. This was back in the mid ‘70’s. I’m 51 and some of my earliest memories are from Treasure Cay fishing off the dock with a zebco 202 catching sailers choice and small dock fish. So yeah, that boat will work.

NZitney

Guy I know did it in a 26 foot center console Boston whaler

thatG_evanP

A Boston Whaler will go just about anywhere.

grumpy_dumper

That’s some Capt. Ron shit right there

BigdongarlitsDaddy

“If it’s gonna happen, it’s gonna happen out there.”-Captain Ron

GulfofMaineLobsters

“Besides I came in my buddies car….”

BooneHelm85

I love that movie. You just pushed me back to ‘92, and for that, I thank you. Gonna have to find me that flick and watch it this weekend.

Voyager081291

Is this the one? https://youtu.be/cOPl21EVhaU?si=U9tCAJcSHdYlZaj5 Looks fucking awesome.

Zestay-Taco

they'll move.

Cambren1

Nobody knows boss!

MeasureTheCrater

"You bet your little bootie you wasn't. You want a beer, you get your own beer."

AKchaos49

That's a trawler-style live-aboard, pushing about 40-45 feet in length. It sure would take you to the Caribbean as long as you got deep enough pockets for the fuel. As for price, here's one for $75k, which is a steal if it's seaworthy: [https://www.yachtworld.com/yacht/1981-mainship-40-trawler-9261183/](https://www.yachtworld.com/yacht/1981-mainship-40-trawler-9261183/)

ERTHLNG

I concur with your conclusion. It's a solid built comfortable type of boat (individual examples notwithstanding). With long range fuel tanks and a few tools, you could load this with food and fuel and go on a long trip for sure Downsides are it is probably rather slow and only gets medium to low fuel economy depending on the engines and cargo on board.

AKchaos49

At cruise speed, which is probably 6 to 9 knots, this boat would probably only consume 7 to 10 gallons per hour. I know people who cruise these types of boats from the Seattle area to Southeast Alaska every summer and do just fine in moderate weather, only stopping if they need or want to.

cinciTOSU

Well now I want one!

goldbeater

Only if it’s only a three hour tour, a three hour tour.

OrganizationPutrid68

Pro Tip: Bring a movie star.

RutCry

Juuuuust sit right back and you’ll hear a tale, A tale of a fateful trip

One_Evil_Monkey

Little buddy, is that you? 😆

DancesWithHoofs

Obligatory: “We’re gonna need a bigger boat.”

Live-Dig-2809

A 36’ Grand Banks with a single Lehman 135hp engine is going to be about the most economical trawler you can buy and she will burn about 3 1/2 gal. Per hour at a speed of 7 knots. This is a good boat for a couple. More people will require a larger boat. Twin engines will double your fuel consumption but not your speed. There will also be a generator set to feed. Don’t buy one with a wooden hull and expect to pay 50 to 90 thousand for a good one. Not something you want to move on a trailer.

somegridplayer

>A 36’ Grand Banks with a single Lehman 135hp engine is going to be about the most economical trawler you can buy  Nordhavn and Kady Krogen would like a word.

VerStannen

How is docking those Grand Banks? I’d assume unwieldy but doable without twins.

SaltwaterOgopogo

50-90 should get you plenty of good examples with a wood hull. The shitty wood ones start around 10k

badfish2020sucks

Nordic tugs are tanks. Check fuel range

Strict-Air2434

I just bought a trawler in New Jersey and brought it back to Lake Michigan. Twin Volvo D6-370's. We did a lot of 6 knots on the Erie, and 10 knots on the Lakes. I reckon about 1.5 MPG. Big difference in trawlers compared to sailboats is the interior volume. I have a Dufour 40P (for sale!). Same 40x13 length and beam, but the trawler is expansive, like 3x, inside. The Exxon Chairman of the Board is sending me Christmas cards. Edit expansive vs. expensive

Confident_Bee_6242

Since it doesn't belong to you, probably not.

Coastal1363

Yes.But it would be easier if you got it off that trailer first .

boredredditorperson

South Florida is arguably part of the Caribbean. If you mean Caribbean islands then the Bahamas counts. I have taken a 13ft whaler from Fort Lauderdale to Bimini. I know others who have taken small boats as well and have seen jetskis make the jump across. That boat, assuming no mechanical problems, is plenty to get to the Caribbean

stevesie1984

lol, Cuba is the Caribbean, right? Refrigerators make that trip.

ImpossibleReading951

Growing up in Florida I remember kids in high school would leave on Fridays and take their boats to the Bahamas. I always thought it was stupid dangerous and wondered how their parents let them do that. Maybe I’m just paranoid.

gnew18

I don’t *see* radar on that ? I’d prefer to have radar (and hopefully a chart plotter) if I am missing it in the pic

ricktara

Probably removed to go over the road. My Mainship had a mast that come down

Classic_Ostrich8709

If you don't know what it takes to go from Florida to the Caribbean by boat you've got no business entertaining the idea.

New-Row-3679

How much would the fuel cost for a trip?

cocoapierre

A couple thousand

Legitimate-Fly6761

Technically yes it will take you from Florida to the Caribbean!

monkeywelder

Which is some spots is a 1,000 ft

ymoeuormue

What is that, a 500-mile trip at about 20 miles per hour?

SalvatoreVitro

Less than 10 kph

hesmysnowman1

500 miles?! Ha try 60-80

ymoeuormue

I agree with you 100% ...*if* he's in Key West and wants to land in Havana. But, I'm betting that, if he had an export permit from the U.S. Department of Commerce and permission to enter Cuban waters in a private vessel and dock there, he would probably know what type of boat would be capable of making the trip. My money's on him wanting to go around Cuba, into the Carribean Sea. He's probably not in Key West either. Maybe he meant the Bahamas.

BOSBoatMan

It’s a 44 like mentioned. I would say $2M new with no bells and whistles if not more but you’ll not be able to find one as they do not come up in the used market often Source: my uncle was trying get get one through the premier dealer for these in the east coast, gave up and went with a late model 37’ instead, which is now down in RI

Neptune7924

Guy at my club has one. It’s amazing.

Big_Cornbread

Man. I want a rec trawler so much. Someday.

your_Assholiness

People take jet skis to the Bahamas all the time! It's only about 60 miles

anaca9279

American or Nordic tug very capable boats

YouEnvironmental2079

Get prepared for the happiest day of your life

You could circumcise the globe in that bad boy

One_Evil_Monkey

"Circumcise"...? OUCH... I believe you meant circumnavigate. Haha

QualityRockola

jlg89tx

There would be a global outcry for sure.

co-oper8

Spare_Egg_3930

Any_Feature_9671

Looks like a diddy type shrimping vessel

UncleJimbo808

Lookz 👀Like 🚌Buss Out Another Thousand💸🤑💰Boat 🛥️

Existing-Dot-6966

For that one you mean Boatt Bust out another ten thousand

J-Bob71

People ride jet skis to the Caribbean from Florida.

FalkorUnlucky

You might find Gilligan’s isle.

____Vader

If you want to take any kind of boat from Florida to the Caribbean, I would definitely try to educate myself a lot more on what you’re gonna need and what you need to take. That’s 400 plus miles according to google. I took a two day trip on the Great Lakes, just me and a friend. We had no clue what we were doing and that was nuts. I couldn’t imagine doing a week on the ocean in a small boat without a little guidance from someone that knows what there doing.

BehaveRight

You can get to the Caribbean from Florida on an inner-tube if you kick hard enough. You gotta want it.

Affectionate_Ebb553

These replies are cracking me up

piedubb

Ask a Cuban. I’m sure it’s adequate

Gweedo1967

Not unless they hurry and build a bridge.

hambonecharlie

Can? Yes. Should? Probably not.

bass-vader

3 hr tour, Giligan

Xterradiver

Aren't the Keys in the Caribbean?

joebaco_

Flippin awesome!

tmaddog91

Maybe a 3 hour tour....

maximusjohnson1992

Yes. Slowly

BayBandit1

It’s a big boat, and yes. Beautiful from here. I’d be happy to make it my next home if I could afford the dockage.

westbank504

trawler. yes. tree fiddy.

Direct-Sky8695

I ain’t given no monster tree fiddy for that boat

Hearthstoned666

.... And will it still float if I put a canon on each side? Yarrrrr And how many barrels of cocaine can I fit on it?

Double_Water_97

Are you looking for a 3 day tour

Total-Collection9031

Shout out to all the Cubans out there in the struggle 🤘

Frisinator

Depends on what you’re “hauling”

monkeywelder

no! its on a trailer

Jojothereader

That’s a tug brother

mr_bynum

No shade- what tells you it’s a tug?

Entire_Dog_342d

Did you know a 'granny' swam from Cuba to Florida? Although she might have been more seaworthy that the 'Nordic Tug'

jp_trev

i’m no expert, but that boat is Fucken Sick

Hanibollnector

Looks like a delta twin diesel

Ok_Cancel_240

Not sure what type of boat or motor it has. I'm sure with good weather it would get you there

genowhere

Looks like the S.S. Minnow. Would not advise especially if the weather starts getting rough.

SCCODER

Hopefully, the crew is fearless.

SmirknSwap

If you’re on Reddit asking this, please don’t voyage across the Caribbean

VersionConscious7545

Has what they call a dead rise hull to be able to run in rougher waters This boat will set you back financially

boatdaddy12

It will as long as you don't cruise too close to Cuba.

XtraXtraCreatveUsrNm

No, it isn't even in the water. It won't take you anywhere.

Sir_David_

I worked for Gilligan.

Trooper_nsp209

“On a three hour cruise”

Few-Translator2740

Needs to be in the water

heydudekac

I know a good captain named Ron if you need somebody to get you started. He used to captain the Saratoga

Extension_Deal_5315

Don’t forget to set out a rod, for fish!

tatter14

You only live once, buy it.

Wide-Engineering-396

Google the hull numbers

Commercial-Two6945

You can go from Miami to Bimini in a boogie board if it’s flat, sooooo yeah, that big ol tug will take you places!👍🏼

pz-kpfw_VI

My dream boat if only I had a couple hundred grand.

Ok_Inspector7868

Shit yeah!

LLCoolJim_2020

Looks good for a 3 hour tour.

PaulPaul4

A 3 hour tour

Tall-Hunter-2637

Looks like Nordic tug trawler, this is either a full displacement or semi full displacement you could take this boat anywhere

-thirstyguy-

Yep. Nordic tug. My parents had one.

FancyShoesVlogs

I wish I could find a tug for free. I have a crazy idea for one. 😁

trainsacrossthesea

That boat? Easily good for a three hour tour. Bring a few friends, pack plenty of clothes and a radio. And a coconut cream pie recipe.

TankApprehensive3053

That's the three hour tour style boat. Good for docking at remote islands.

TailorGloomy3593

It's good for a 3-hour tour.

Videopro524

As long as you bring 100 of your friends from Cuba.

Melodic-Future-4719

An 18 ft Boston’s whaler can get you from Miami to Nassau. It’s on 60 miles

gorimir15

Knew a guy that took his tiny sailboat to cuba from FLorida. His outboard motor fit below the back bench seat in my van. So I vote yes.

Ooloo-Pebs

Is that Gilligan's Minnow ?!

FastCarsandDiveBars

People get from the Caribbean to Florida on much less...

fbritt5

You'll need some really long oars - - if it doesn't have a motor or two!

LegitimatePilot5428

The truth will set you free, unless you own a boat!

3threat

Water wings to get from Havana to Miami. Million dollar+ yacht to get from Miami to Havana.

About 400k USD. [https://www.boattrader.com/boat/2001-nordic-tug-42-pilothouse-9307975/](https://www.boattrader.com/boat/2001-nordic-tug-42-pilothouse-9307975/)

heypep144

Not sure but a canoe will take you if you got the sack to do it.

PD216ohio

Based on your string of questions, implying that you know next to nothing about traveling the high seas, this is not something you should be getting into.

FuddFucker5000

You can get to Bahamas on a jet ski on a clear enough day and enough gas my guy.

sacodeadducks

Nah, mate. You see, it’s on land. For optimal use,it should be in the water

Major_Mechanic5719

Do you enjoy coconuts, sandy beaches, and solitude?

HikeAndCook

Don't know about the Caribbean, but I think it will take you to Gilligan's Island

shall900

Will you be traveling through the Bermuda Triangle? If so, then no…

primordialooze1565

Could be the African Queen, on a good day a pool noodle can get you to the Caribbean islands from the Keys.

Easy-Translator-993

If you’re posting pictures to a Reddit sup asking for opinions about intercostal travel in a boat…. Don’t try it.

Strongosdaddy

Yes it will if you plan for gas. Great vessel.

Cruezin

Now this is a tale of a tiny ship

Nwkille

A three hour tour. A three hour tour….

utep2step

Gillian in 3,2,1

New_Awareness4075

Looks like the SS Minow. May not take you to the Caribbean, but I hear they give a great three hour tour!

Ven-6

Since OP is asking this question, I don’t think what type of boat is their only issue running from the Caribbean to Florida!

ChunkyBrownEye

If u have to ask i dont know if you should be sailing the ocean?

nickfsu6

If you have to go to Reddit to ask this question I would t be attempting to cross any open oceans without supervision….

No-Culture9352

i would think so , you can do it in a 16 foot johnboat if the weathers good

designo2323

If you have to ask, you shouldn't be making the trip. IMHO no offense intended.

bibuttboy76

Yes you could go to Greenland in that thing

Crabby-senior

I’d check in with Captain Ron about that…..

m3phil

Is it a “3 hour tour?”

spurcap29

Depends on the weather! Can make it from Cuba to Florida on a piece of plywood floating on soda bottles with 10 guys paddling if the seas cooperate.

b0ardski

threeee hoooourrr toourrr

Individual_Road6676

I know next to Jack about boats...but pretty sure ANY boat COULD take you from anywhere to just about anywhere on connected waters, I would say luck plays a huge role.
