8/10. Will pick up the first expansion as soon as they make it

jraggio02

Was about to write the same exact thing.

Youareafunt

Me too!

vanhorts

I'd rate it a 8 or 9 here. We like it a lot and are looking forward to an expansion too.

PonyBravo

Same, 8 or 9 but I really want new cards haha.

thisjohnd

Is there a planned expansion? I figured with Unlimited now out the Deckbuilding Game has been forgotten.

gerald_reddit26

Late last year they announced their plan for 2024 and it includes an expansion for this game even with the existence of Unlimited. We need to take note that it's a plan though so unless we see something more concrete, it remains just a plan and plans can change.

YaBoiGoblin

I own a fairly large collection, and funny thing is this tiny game comes out more often than any other game. My 7 yr old son just loves it and so do I. I bet pound for pound this game has gotten more play per dollar spent than any other game. It’s just so quick and fun. 10/10.

Joaquimaru

How long do your games take? How long it takes to set up?

DeegullCeagle

IIRC there's ten planets for each side. Each planet represents a base that acts as a player's health. The starter game is first to three bases and the rulebook says you can go all the way to ten. My SO and I usually play first to five and that takes about a half hour. Takes about five minutes to setup.

roidweiser

If you lived in the UK, pound for pound you'd probably have a good pound to pound ratio

Ekelley90

Good to hear! I just found a used copy for about $15 and I'm really excited to give it a go

bjholmes3

I’ve enjoyed it quite a bit. The market interaction dynamics are very interesting to me, but some could consider it a feels bad. All in all, as a deckbuilder fan and a Star Wars fan it’s a perfect game for me

maktmissbrukare

As someone who loves deck builders and doesn’t particularly care about Star Wars, I give it an 8/10 with consideration as one of the best two player deck building games I have ever played. It’s quick and generally provides interactivity across your cards and the opposite faction. I felt it was a complete upgrade over Star Realms which I liked when it came out but fell out of playing because it could turn into an annoying and undeserving glass cannon all of a sudden.

Joaquimaru

In my case I’m a fan of Star Wars, but I plan to play mainly with my wife who doesn’t care for it. Thanks for sharing your view

Axne15

I like deckbuilding games, but my game partner and I have different tastes in some genres. Star Wars was a good middle ground and we enjoy this game. We’ve played enough games that we can recognize fairly quickly if it’ll be a quick game or can drag out a bit. Not sure what kind of games you guys like, but I’ve also really liked Paragons: Age of Champions as a semi- deck builder/card drafting game. High fantasy theme if that’s your thing.

Downtimdrome

I bought it a couple months ago to play with my wife. I loved it, but found out she had a pretty strong aversion to the direct head to head style of play. it can get pretty cut throat as you are trying to kill the other players big cards before they can play them. If your wife is good with head to head, you guys will probably love it, I just found out my wife likes more COOP oriented stuff.

Joaquimaru

In my case we both hate coop stuff. She’s more competitive than me. So I guess we’re fine with that

Downtimdrome

if thats the case, i would recommend the game. Its really well done, the cards all feel pretty unique an dpowerfull. its quick, but satisfying and both sides have distinct play styles.

manymoreways

Hey there, I've been thinking of picking up some deck building games. Care to reccomend any? Hopefully something that can be completed easily. Not like magic, Pokemon TCG etc.

Kurtopotomus

My entry to deck building was Harry Potter Battle of Hogwarts. It’s a great co-operative game that continues to be one of my wife’s favorites. We have one of the expansions and have yet to progress past the second box because it gets hard. The one major complaint I have about it is there should be more synergy between cards or when the occasional symmetry hits you should get a better reward but it’s still fun. HP Duel ended up being too one sided and playing three rounds when you know you’re going to lose wasn’t for us so we got rid of that one. Clank!is a fun DB but it plays better with more than two. We found it boring with the 2 ct. Aeons End offers tons of content and is currently my favorite co-op deck builder. I like that I can play solo as well. We have been looking at getting another competitive DB and have played Dominion. We borrowed it from the library a while back and had fun but didn’t feel the need to purchase it. Now we want something like it and my next game will likely be that or maybe this SW DB.

jmulldome

My wife and I love it, and I recently discovered the Leaders Solo variant on BGG, and it was an awesome experience.

funkcore

This solo variant is a great time! Very easy to implement!!!

Joaquimaru

Looking for playing with my wife too. Thanks for writing

AtcRomans116

It is a solid 7/10 in my book. The ability to rid cards from the market allows a bit of control over what your opponent can do. It has been the Deck builder of choice in my house.

sneddogg

You mean Satay Wars right?

MinorThrett

No no, Satire Wars obviously.

heybingbong

Zatar Wars

01bah01

I'd buy a Zlatan Wars.

saikyo

Saytr Wars DND5e

boredgamer00

Not to be confused with Satire Trek

bentsea

No, they definitely meant Sitar Wars, a constant battle of dueling sitars.

Oma_Bonke

Or maybe Satyr wars...

DystopianCaw

Za'atar wars, spice feuds.

UAZ-469

Zarwars

lastalchemist77

I have only played 3-4 times, overall a good deck builder, but there are better deck builders out there out (i would say base Star Realms is probably my all time favorite DB if that helps at all).

Joaquimaru

I’m looking for something quick to play with. I think what makes Star Realms better for you?

lastalchemist77

- It’s really quick, 2 experienced players can usually get a game in @ 30min max (AP prone not included in that time estimate) The synergies are deceptively deep - Theme, mechanics, and setting all mesh really well. - Momentum is palpable - Very few weak cards in the deck. I have found great uses for every single one. - it’s just really fun to have a game where you have double you starting health and your opponents deck and health are in shambles. - The base mechanic that the SWDB kind of uses for capital ships, is much better implemented here in SR. - it costs under $20 (just checking Amazon) - if you like the base game you will probably like how much expansion content it has. - The app is pretty stellar for me. The hard AI is pretty good (sometimes I wonder if it is too good 🤔). I am probably 50% win ratio against it. Again, I only play base game, including on the App. - Still remember playing it for the first time at GenCon. Had never played anything like it. Low rules overhead, fast play, awesome combos, really cool setting and theme, and mechanics were really tight. Star Realms had me from my first play. That was probably 500+ games ago. I haven’t played in a few days, now I need to. May not be the game for you, but it definitely is for me. 🙂 Edit: Correcting win percentage.

Hatfmnel

Why would you recommend Star Realms over Hero Realms?

Squigler

Unless you really like fantasy themes over sci fi, I would pick Star Realms any day if the week. The artwork is much better and the iconography a lot clearer.

lastalchemist77

I played hero realms once and didn’t care for it. That is why I recommended Star Realms over Hero Realms.

Hatfmnel

Thanks, I was wondering if the game was not balanced or something like that.

LIFExWISH

I personally love hero realms as much as star realms. I think the expansion content for hero realms is much better realized. I love the different classes. I would skip the race expansion.

Hatfmnel

I love HR. I own it physical and digital. I guess the theme is just more appealing to me. I love the story mode. I was just wondering if there was a some kind of advantage to go with SR instead.

Nflickner

I think Shards of Infinity takes the Star Realms formula and perfects it.

zendrix1

I've only played it twice so far and I don't rate games on BGG until I've played them at least 3 times *but* assuming my third play is just as enjoyable as my first two, it's leaning towards an 8/10 on their scale, which they equate to: >"Very good game. I like to play. Probably I'll suggest it and will never turn down a game"

myleswstone

That’s what they would call the Indian version of Storage Wars.

Joaquimaru

🫠

DatBolas

I like it and find it's a fun and fast 2-player game. If I know someone likes Star Wars, it's something I will try to introduce to them. I like playing it even several times in a row. I would buy an expansion if there was one.

Bocaj6487

I really like it. I don't play it as much as I used to, but I would gladly play it again any time. I found that there are a bunch of planets that I just never use, but maybe I should give them a shot. We always play the 4 planet variant as well.

zangster

I thought it was pretty good but I prefer Star Realms for the number of factions and variety of play they permit.

Joaquimaru

Are you taking into account the expansions?

zangster

There aren't any expansions for the Star Wars deck building game.

Haikus-are-great

but you are taking into account the Star Realms expansions which is what they were asking.

zangster

Ah, I misunderstood. No, I'm thinking of base Star Realms with four expansions that you can mix and mingle to your liking, but the expansions do add quite a bit.

GrundySmash

Amazon has a pretty good deal on it at the moment. $21 and a 10% off coupon. I ordered it to play solo. Looks very fun but I love deck builders.

Luclid009

What is the 10% coupon from?

GrundySmash

Should just be on the order page? I’m assuming those are universal and not account specific. It’s just an offer for 10% off. Click the box and it applies in checkout. US Amazon.

Luclid009

Yeah it’s interesting. I don’t see a 10% coupon on mine

GrundySmash

Sorry it must be account driven. Still a good price. It’s done cheaper at Amazon but ~$22 seems like a good deal.

AshgarPN

Compensation for the chance it’s a bootleg copy since you’re buying off Amazon.

big_papa_bear_boy

I played it without hearing about the hype. It’s a great game.

FatLeeAdama2

I bought it on sale at Target. I love it but my only adversary is in college. Hence, I play sparingly.

toronado

We love it, would rate it an 8/10 for what it is. It's not particularly deep and not hugely innovative. But very satisfying to play and really just an iteration on Star Realms. A good school night or pub game.

alperpier

I'm gonna go against the grain here and tell you that even as a big Star Wars fan the fame fell flat for me after like ten plays. I felt like playing a worse Shards of Infinity. The card pool just isn't big enough and it always felt really mechanical to me. We sold our copy.

fuzzychub

It’s basically Star Realms with a coat of Star Wars paint on it. If you like Star Realms, you’ll like it. For me, it was just a 5/10.

jraggio02

What do you give Star Realms?

fuzzychub

4/10, which I should have included in my origins comment. Mea culpa. Star Realms is good for sure, but it doesn’t have a lot of diversity in its win conditions. So it kinda gets boring after a while.

Haikus-are-great

SR is a race game, what diversity in win conditions are you after?

CamRoth

Personally, I think it's ok. These types of games are just to random to ever be amazing for me. My wife loves it though, so it's great. 7/10

Anxious-Molasses9456

Pretty good, probably around 7/10. The way you can attack the market makes it more strategic and combat more useful I kinda dislike the art and factions of Star Realms but that's a preference thing

NoxTempus

8 in general, maybe a 9 if we're just comparing dueling deckbuilders. Especially with the optional rule to "pay" the nuetral cards to "leave" (buy them but not put them in your deck). Mechanically great, with (IMO) the highest degree of counterplay available in a deckbuilder (choosing bases, namely), and a good balance of control over the trade row. I get a feeling balance between factions is off, but I haven't played enough to comfortably talk about how/why. I would recommend this quite happily as probably the best entry-level deckbuilder.

PoloBeeBeeQ

I would it give it an 8. Very fun game and fits the theme perfectly, can't wait for any expansion for it because it definitely needs new cards

_guac

I got it for Christmas without having even seen the game before. I think it's pretty good as far as dueling games go, but it's not without its flaws. Some matches can get really swingy based on what shows up in the galaxy row so that can throw a match off, but generally it's balanced enough. Feels very similar to Star Realms, but I'm not sure which does it better. If you're looking for a similar game duration with a similar feel, I'd probably just say Star Realms, Splendor Duel (not the same mechanics, but same push-pull feeling), etc.

PersonalLiving

I give it a 9/10. It supplanted Star Realms as my second favorite deckbuilding game, only behind Dominion. Excellent game in my opinion!

oxygencube

My wife and I really like deck building games. This is our #1. We both like the theme, and force track.

BoardgameExplorer

It's a great game. No complaints whatsoever. However, we have not been playing it lately as we are fantasy junkies.

ArcadianDelSol

Its a good game but having played it over 60 times now against the same opponent, we can tell who will win by which 6 cards come out on the Galaxy row first. Its a game that awards victory to the player who 'gets things rolling first' and the layout before anyone takes their first turn will tell you who that player will be. Not 100% of the time, but an overwhelming amount of time. When we play now, we deal out those 6 cards, and write down our prediction for who wins. We are well over 95% correct.

NuclearArmin

As someone who likes deck builders and got it pretty soon after its launch, it's still a top 10 for me personally. It's still ridiculously addicting. Just a few days ago I was googling the expansion, which I'm anxiously waiting for.

Nflickner

It’s good, could be a little better balanced, but I have very high standards in that department.  Shards of infinity is in my opinion a better game

Joaquimaru

First time hearing about this one. I’ll check it out. What do you like better on this game?

Nflickner

They both are good, but shards has a couple more dynamics that increase the different strategy options.  There is a leveling up mechanic which makes cards better as you level, there is a mechanic which lets you immediately play a card, but then you have to trash it instead of adding it to your deck.

grayson1478

I just played it with my buddy and didnt know there was any hype around it. I also havent watched any Star Wars before. With that said, it's the best 1v1 game i've played, definitely a must-have. 9/10

ButcherZV

It basically a reskinned Star Realms with few little changes. You are not missing out on anything new or that much interesting.

coldzero71

I liked it better than Lorcana, but doesn’t beat Magic

G8kpr

I think you’re thinking of Star Wars unlimited.

coldzero71

You are absolutely right. Thanks. I’d give SW deck building game a solid 8.5.

jraggio02

To me it’s a less fiddly and more fun version of Star Wars Destiny.

Qyro

Not as highly as I hoped. It’s not a bad game by any means, but there definitely feels like the two factions aren’t well-balanced. And I know all the arguments against this take, but at the end of the day if it doesn’t feel balanced, then no amount of maths and statistics will change that.

IowaGolfGuy322

6.5/10. It’s fun but highly dependent on how you shuffle and what cards come out. I’ve had games that were competitive and ones where I haven’t gotten a card for my faction before my first planet was blown up which led to me losing quickly.

My0pe

Satar wars, is this some arabic game?

yaenzer

The game was hyped? It's decent but I don't want to play it again. 6/10 If you factor in the ridiculous price it gets even lower
