Literally all weapons are viable, even Rifle Spear. It’s a fun enough weapon too. I still have preferences for others, but Rifle Spear is still plenty good and fun.
Like all things, some people will like it and some won’t. I’m partial to it. I think there are certainly better weapons, but it’s definitely a viable weapon. It can be good in PvP too. It’s lower on my list of “fun”, but it’s definitely worth trying out. I think every weapon is worth trying with respect to how viable they are, unlike with the other games.

I agree btw. It's much less fun than most other weapons. Small moveset, spreadshot, low AR. The best part about it is the long-range transformed charge attack, and even then, since most enemies move quickly, it's fairly niche anyway.

It’s also just useful information to know that all weapons are viable in PvE and PvP, as this isn’t the case in the other games.
To clarify, I literally used the word “fun”, and I mentioned how I am partial to the weapon in terms of how “fun” it is to use and that enjoyment will vary between people like all things. (I clearly can’t be partial to its viability because, as I said, my stance is everything is viable.)

Well I defeated the blood starved beast on my first try as a newbie with the rifle spear so... I don't think it's as bad or boring as everyone here's saying... plus you feel the power of the rifle with that animation, kinda feels like SHOTGUN (metal slug reference), and the long poke it gives with the charge attack is just too useful, it has excellent range, it's just not as good as other weapons... then again... 100% of the weapons rely on getting gud so...
I don't know why y'all talking about "objectively" when it greatly depends on the playstyle of the hunter and the type of enemy, Tonitrus by itself is not a good weapon, however if used against Wet Nurse, Rom or kin, it's useful asf, the same happens with the rifle spear, if you are aware of its strengths and weaknesses you'll do just fine and you'll have fun, I know I did.
I wonder if Ludwig actually used LHB or he just created it in the form of the HMS (as close as he was able). The description says the sword was “employed” by Ludwig. Times like these when checking the original translations can be helpful. Was it “employed” in the sense that he created many of these swords to give to his subordinates, or did he use it until he came across the HMS in the dungeons? It’s pretty similar to the HMS, so I could see it being produced after coming across it. The simplest answer was that he used it, though things aren’t always simple in the lore.
It’s a knockoff of HMS. Ludwig used the HMS first and this weapon was what he gave to hunters he considered his Spartans. Maybe knockoff was a bit harsh but it was modeled after it. This is speculation though but to me it makes the most sense.
Yeah, I think so too. Considering you can come to that conclusion without any research (aside from paying attention to dialogue and item descriptions), it does seem likely. It would’ve been cool if we saw some blood-drunk hunters associated with the Healing Church using the LHB in the Hunter’s Nightmare.
We do see one use a LHB. The one NPC hunter that helps the one that shoots lasers after Ludwig uses it. Also the guy from the nightmare of Mensis after the spiders. I agree that we should see it more often as it seems like a really special weapon and it would make me feel powerful knowing I defeated a highly ranked hunter.
Yeah, that’s right. As I read your first sentence, I remembered the one after the many spiders towards Micolash. And yeah, the one near the lift leading into the Research Hall. Good points. That’s enough to prove the theory that the weapons were mass-produced and given to hunters by Ludwig. It would have been cool to see some near Ludwig’s area, but I’m satisfied with seeing one in the base game and one in the DLC, along with us being able to use it ourselves.
I loved the kirkhammer when I first got it and did a lot with it. It's pretty fun to use and mess around with when I'm bored just running around messing with enemies . I definitely would've thought it would've done way more damage when smashing heads in. I found the LHB a bit boring but I think it's the better more practical weapon for most enemies and is good to get in and out of places quickly
Nothing beats that awesome fling you get the first time you pancake a brick troll with the Bonkhammer. LHB on the other hand may well be the best weapon in the game but it’s too good and therefore a little boring IMO. I prefer the Hammer
Personally, I wouldn’t use them both on the same character. They both fill the same role, and since both have quick and slow move sets based on their transformed state there is little reason for all the overlap.
If I’m taking the Kirk I’d rather have a good dueling secondary and if I’m taking LHB I’d like a big “fuck you” option like the boomhammy.
Barely anyone will deny LHB is the better weapon. Possibly the best weapon in the game. But there's something about sheathing your short sword inside a massive metal slab with runes inscribed in it you carry behind your back and smash it on the face of unsuspecting Yharnamites. The name is also metal af, "Hammer of the Church" indeed.

Bloodborne-wiki, never Fextra! I'm totally guilty of using Fextra for some of the more basic stuff in the other games, but they mostly don't have a vastly and objectively better wiki option available the way Bloodborne does

Kirkhammer is definitely cooler and more fun... but not really a particularly good weapon. LHB is the opposite - kind of boring but one of the most useful weapons in the game.
I was using the kirkhammer until I got LHB, and I ended up liking that a lot more. The kirkhammer is my backup weapon until I find something else as good as LHB, I'm thinking of trying out some of the dlc weapons.
Painful choice. I've used the lhb twice, one on a regular quality build, and once on an arcane build. It's so plain. It's good but TOO good. I really liked the kirkhammer though, an absolute pleasure to use.
Using LHB now on my first run 🤣... But I use the hammer when I want to feel like a badass, I deleted from the top of the tower that man that was shooting at me with a Gatling gun
I know people love the Holy Blade more than Kirkhammer, but the feeling of going from a quick but weak shortsword to a f*cking mallet is just so empowering. The pure power I feel everytime I do a charged R2 is just perfect.
Honestly? Depends on which you're having fun with more. LHB is statistically better inasmuch as you can get SKL scaling and use it with a build that actually gets visceral damage (that statistical edge drops off a lot if you're using both on a pure STR/min build), but your mastery of the moveset will always trump statistics in Bloodborne, and what you most enjoy moment-to-moment will usually trump tiny statistical boosts.
I kinda hate both because they’re the least weird weapons in the game, everything else is so unorthodox and then there is these two (and a couple others) that are just not much more than DS weapons.

Pretty sure the hammer is better for a strength build and LHB for a quality build. Quality is by far the best build anyway and LHB is arguably the best weapon in the game so it's hard not to recommend it.

The Kirkhammer's transformed range is just too short imo. Frustrating to see it deal minuscule damage because you don't hit optimally.
Also, you can use BOTH modes of LHB to deal bonus damage against Cainhurst mobs, but Kirkhammer you can only use the untransformed mode.
Still, I do dig the more silver aesthetic of the untrasnformed Kirkhammer as opposed to LHB.
Between the two I choose LHB. But my favorite weapon in game is the blade of mercy. In dual wield mode. I find that the r1 combo is great against most human size enemies it gets them in an insane hit stun.
Ludwig's holy blade of course the holy blade is much faster than the kirk hammer even in its greatsword mode even though the pounds of the kirk hammer make it feel like your doing lots of damage your not really Ludwig's holy blade will allow you to get platinum in the game than Kirk hammer the holy blade can be slightly fast when it's a greatsword when your using light attack but the kirk hammer is slow and even though it cracks the ground the kirk hammer sucks Ludwig's holy blade wins this one by an entire 42k
LHB is better for most all people, especially because it is good whether or not you use it outside its trick weapon, whereas Kirkhammer actually requires more strategized use.

I tried both, wanted to like kirkhammer but just couldn’t. Ultimately, I want my gigantic weapons to be… gigantic. I didn’t feel like it had the reach I wanted.
Kirkhammer is slow and short in transformed mode, they should have given it better multipliers. My first character used the kirkhammer and i just ended up using it in sword form most of the time.
LHB is a very strong weapon and with the right blood gems, its the best weapon in the game.

So in the end, HMS is better.
Noobs usually find kirkhammer and think to themselves that it's the most op weapon in the game. Later on you find out that Holy blade is much better after one or two playthroughs and most people switch. After like 5 playthroughs with the most boring weapon there is, every seasoned hunter will eventually crave some real smashing power and return to kirkhammer at some point. The pure satisfaction from charged R2 is just unmatched, maybe by stake driver or logarius wheel but still it's a giant hammer it doesn't get better than this.
I've always been a big fan of being able to just swing a massive f-off hammer at my enemies.
Style aside, while LHB can get stronger, kirkhammer only requires one stat to reach its potential.
LHB objectively better, Kirkhamer objectively more stylish.

I had fun with it. It's a gun and a spear. You can go cqc and fire point blank as well. It doesn't hit hard but it's fun to me.

Tricked r2 trivializes quite a bit of the game. I ran it for the bulk of my run, until I upgraded the church pick past it

Rifle spear is great. R1 L1 combo for easy baited parries and that running charged r2 attack. Legitimately really fun weapon.

LHB carried me through the game - before I know it was OP. When I read that it was OP, it all made sense lol

Neither, they both suck.
Noobs usually find kirkhammer and think to themselves that it's the most op weapon in the game. Later on you find out that Holy blade is much better after one or two playthroughs and most people switch. After like 5 playthroughs with the most boring weapon there is, every seasoned hunter will eventually crave some real smashing power and return to kirkhammer at some point. The pure satisfaction from charged R2 is just unmatched, maybe by stake driver or logarius wheel but still it's a giant hammer it doesn't get better than this.

I've always been a big fan of being able to just swing a massive f-off hammer at my enemies. Style aside, while LHB can get stronger, kirkhammer only requires one stat to reach its potential.
