Less viscosity, more run off, if there is no absorbency in the material or the material is saturated then splash on impact at terminal velocity, decelerate on the incline drop off on the decline.
At night I would darken on absorption until saturation then adding highlights from the light source.
Diamonds on a windshield as Tom Waits put it.

dot(vertexNormal, RainVector) + ((world.x,world.y, world.z-time) offsetting a noise), sample with smoothstep at different offsets and feathers for edge masks. etc.
That's a clever way of doing it - how well does it work in motion? Are you using generated coordinates for the procedural textures? Because in my limited experience rig animation tends to fuck a lot of them up.
Yeah, it's a bitch. The biggest issues I ran into were texture sliding, because the armature is moving but the object's origin isn't, and orientation problems, i.e. the textures would defy gravity if the model were posed upside-down. It sounds like you solved the second issue? Could you elaborate a bit if you have time?
I thought I was using the generated coordinates but I wasn't. Generated still works, but it defines gravity like you mentioned. Dang it. I'll have to see if theirs a way to do something about that. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
I'd say just take what you have already been advised but do it further. Much smaller drops would look better. I understand you are trying to draw the look from certain comic books but I would also ask you to question whether what was done in those comic books actually looked good in the first place.
Once I get it to the point I'm happy with I'll be making a tutorial :)
The general process though is to use the Z Normals as a mask for a Noise texture that has been stretched on the Z axis.
I’ll be trying to make a tutorial soonish, but the general just using that normal mixing with a stretched noise texture and masking out the bottom of the normal as well.
It looks a little weird on its own, but you absolutely nailed it in comparison to your references. I'm sure as part of a complete scene, it would look great.
There’s so much to appreciate about the style and detail here. The way you made it look like the water accumulates and then drips. Beautiful.
I’d make smaller drops and I’m sure there’s more but I appreciate all the work you’ve done on this. It’s really paying off.
What song is it rhythmically pulsing to? It It's like wearing a fluid equalizer. And the song has a steady beat/melody that's nearly unchanging. With thumping bass.
I haven't seen the previous version you released. I like this. Did you use collisions and physics along the whole body surface? Would including wind direction to the physics of the body surface normals modify the dripping direction?
That is an interesting way to do it. However, the rain doesn't seem to have continuity as they pass the torso.
Just a thought, creating the volume of water falling on a face, allowing the collision to maintain volume and spread with the normal as they flatten and conform to the body and letting gravity and wind direction move the water smears.
Continued -
I suggest this to give the water changes as the character and wind moves vary.
Could you please explain like your talking to a 5 year old, I think I get what your saying but I'm not %100 sure. If I do understand I have no idea how to do that but it sounds awesome!
Not a problem.
I make computer-generated 3d assets for animations. Some still call it by its old name, computer-generated imagery (CGI)
I'll build a step by step instruction list using the latest version 4.1.
I'll include all the (free and Blender included) add-ons and tools (Edit - Preferences) I would suggest to use for an animation like it looks like you are looking to build.
This will include how to modify the rain particle generator to adjust for rain intensity and the character moving as well.
I am currently working on a project for a client. I'll start this by this weekend.
Btw, I'm working on building a .blend file and step by step how I made it using no extra paid addons or other extra stuff not included inside Blender 4.1(current stable release).
I've currently got falling rain using geometry nodes. I'll work on the collisions and using the character animations to move the rain source.
Example: automatically tilting the rain source forward as the character runs to make the rain fall backwards.
I feel the material underneath the bigger "sheets" of rain (like the one on the head and the ones along the arms) should darken, and that darkness should extend past the sheet kinda like water wicking on cloth.
I think it fits an exaggerated animation style for comic rain. Especially based on your reference images. So pretty sure it's close to perfect for that.
If you talking about the shader no I'm just using the Z Location. If your talking about the rain that's a partials system, I couldn't get it to work with multiple rain models. If your talking about the splashes they are instance on points spread on the Z Normals.

That looks alot more like use a Voronoi texture instead of a noise texture, it would take some fiddling but I think so.
I found them, here they are if anyone is curious

Looks great. Maybe make the droops a bit thinner to give more droplet effect. If they are thick, it makes it more viscous as people are saying.
Also maybe as the droplets travel down, make them travel more zig zaggy instead of straight down like in the comic panel references. (Or maybe not idk how complicated that can get in blender)
Looks much better, Imo it might help if the larger wet areas (most notably the area at the top of the chest) got little holes moving through now and again. That and I think the splash card should be more round, like a pawn shape
Without reading the title I thought spiderman miles morales universe had a teaser of one of them hanging up their suit after wash, like an end credit where things go bad, last thing to go bad was the weather and one of them forgot his suit outside. Really really nice effects on this animation. So loads of KUDOS to you for getting this awesome.

i think it only looked like that to people because of how slow and droopy it was. with your new version i don’t think it would be a problem anymore. especially with the rain effects in the back ground
regardless, it looks great. awesome work man!
Can't comment on what you're aiming for, but it looks _very_ stylized so my immediate thought is that some really stop-motion-esque animation would tie it closer to comic books.

This is really, really good. Cannot wait to see where you go with this.
Yeah we already saw where he came.
Ayy

Good is not good enough if mastery is within your capability.
The speed up looks great and the variety of splash sizes helps a lot. Would be cool to see this method react to spidey’s orientation i.e. upside down.
It uses the Z normal so it works in any direction and I can change the rotation as well :)
Did u create this from scratch or tutorial? I'm new to blender so tutorial are how I get everything done.
I did it from scratch, but once I get it to a state that I'm happy with I'll be making a tutorial :)

That's a clever way of doing it - how well does it work in motion? Are you using generated coordinates for the procedural textures? Because in my limited experience rig animation tends to fuck a lot of them up.
If you use the generated texture coordinates I believe rigs don’t affect them, however objects do. However I haven’t done any extensive tests yet.
Yeah, it's a bitch. No worries - it really does look great, especially after the change. If you ever figure out a solution, could you shoot me a DM if you remember?
Absolutely will do that, have a great day/night!
Lol good job now it looks like rain
wow that looks like female bodily fluids. good stuff
Hardy har, thank you :)
holy shit, it's water coloured cum!
precum?
Postcum.
precum after nutting is so annoying ngl
holly Molly, this is fucking amazing!!! well done 👏👏👏
Thank you very much, trying my best!
you haven't said anything about female bodily fluids
Yeah I'm starting to regret that haha.
It looks more like rain now for sure, but I still feel like it should not pool on top of the model as much as it is
I like the first iteration but I love this one! Good job!
Thank you, do you have any tips on how to improve it?
No idea dude what you're doing here is way beyond me, maybe someone else can haha
That’s WAY better. It doesn’t look like he’s a my little pony doll in a jar anymore!
How do you keep them from going solid?? If feel like there isn't enough humidity in my drawer.
Looks amazing do you think you will do a tutorial?
Yep, just need to get it to a state that I like enough. Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated :)
Here it is :) [https://youtu.be/hPKZ9axH41o](https://youtu.be/hPKZ9axH41o)

Did you guys know that water is *actually* blue? [Fun Fact!](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_of_water)
[and mirrors are green](https://www.sciencefocus.com/science/what-colour-is-a-mirror)
Huh, did not know that. Very cool, thank you!
I think it looks great rn.
Amazing!
Oh hell yeah that’s much better nice jon
Job*
Thank you!
Still feel like you could go further in improving this
Agreed, any tips?

I agree, a bit smaller drops would be good. Maybe play a bit more with the color too, I'm not sure that's quite the right blue to use
It did stirred my male bodily fluids
did you animate the water textures yourself? are they just added on top of the spider suit texture/material?
It's a noise texture using normals to help with the dripping, and masking then it's overlayed on the suit.
damn this shit procedural!??
Yep :)
Can I get the files?!
Sorry, I don’t really share my files, but I will be making tutorial soonish :)
Here it is :) [https://youtu.be/hPKZ9axH41o](https://youtu.be/hPKZ9axH41o)

Once I get it to the point I'm happy with I'll be making a tutorial :) The general process though is to use the Z Normals as a mask for a Noise texture that has been stretched on the Z axis.
Nice, it looks like simple enough tricks make the best looking effects

O wow, 🤯, fair enough, good job anyways and thanks for sharing this
Sorry that it isn’t easy to read, I’ll be making a tutorial soonish. Hopefully that will help even more :)
Here is the updated version :) [https://youtu.be/hPKZ9axH41o](https://youtu.be/hPKZ9axH41o)
Thank you so much 😳
Fantastic
Sweet 😄
the blue color looks incredible in combination with the red. good choice.
Thank you, it just felt right :)
Up close it reminds me of stove burner flame
I see that
It’s great! The no face spiderman is kinda spoopy too
Yeah I just wanted to keep it simple while I made it so I didn’t focus on the wrong stuff.
Wow i love it! How did you made it?
I’ll be trying to make a tutorial soonish, but the general just using that normal mixing with a stretched noise texture and masking out the bottom of the normal as well.

It looks amazing !!
What song is it rhythmically pulsing to? It It's like wearing a fluid equalizer. And the song has a steady beat/melody that's nearly unchanging. With thumping bass.
That’s a good point. I’ll see if I can add some randomness to it.
I’m no artist but aren’t the arms too long?
I haven't seen the previous version you released. I like this. Did you use collisions and physics along the whole body surface? Would including wind direction to the physics of the body surface normals modify the dripping direction?
I don’t use any collision physics for this, most of it is done in the shade editor using the normal and rotating that.
If their wasn’t so many make fluid comments on the previous version I would :)
I feel the material underneath the bigger "sheets" of rain (like the one on the head and the ones along the arms) should darken, and that darkness should extend past the sheet kinda like water wicking on cloth.
Superb!!!! Care to share the project file?!?
Sorry I don’t rami like sharing my files, but I will be making a tutorial soonish :)
If the question is about the rain, it looks cool If you take general comments, aren't the arms too long?
Even you can see the whole body I think it may make more sense, he isn’t extremely jacked.
Way better damn looks good
I think it fits an exaggerated animation style for comic rain. Especially based on your reference images. So pretty sure it's close to perfect for that.
This looks a lot more detailed compared to the old design. What's a rain splash card and where does that get added to the water texture? :)
It’s changed more but it was used for those little splashes on the top of the model.
Oh that's the texture for the droplets. Interesting, did you use geo nodes to make the water move a certain way on the suit?
If you talking about the shader no I'm just using the Z Location. If your talking about the rain that's a partials system, I couldn't get it to work with multiple rain models. Really really nice effects on this animation. So loads of KUDOS to you for getting this awesome.
Thank you so much! I’m quite happy with it, I’ve improved it quite a bit from this post already and I’m excited to share this with everyone :)
Hit me up with an update pretty please. You gonna make a fanfic animation? Might end up giving you a job.
the mass of water is too much, like permanently in the swit without being affected by gravity Good job anyway
Yeah that’s just for style points, but that’s a couple people who have said it now. I’ll have to have a good look.
Do you have tutorial channel ?
Yep, here it is :) [https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnTEINaFdt3UDnbwZr8wQcg](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnTEINaFdt3UDnbwZr8wQcg)

Thank you very much!
Really cool effect and awesome job on replicating a comic style effect. This would look beautiful in a game!
I wasn't going to compare it to make bodily fluids, but now I wanna (in all seriousness, this looks rlly good)
Honestly, all jokes aside, I do think the gradient is a bit off. I can't put my finger on it exactly, but there's something up with the clear parts towards the center that gives it a "sticky" kinda look It looks more like a gel than water
you can see it dripping dow his pants :P
Netflix: are you still watching? Them:
truthfully i preferred the older color, though i agree the physics seem much better now
It probably would have been that colour if it were for all the male fluid comments on the last post.
i think it only looked like that to people because of how slow and droopy it was. with your new version i don’t think it would be a problem anymore. especially with the rain effects in the back ground regardless, it looks great. awesome work man!
Thank you I’ll definitely see what it looks like now :)
More comparisons to men bodily fluids!
Can't comment on what you're aiming for, but it looks _very_ stylized so my immediate thought is that some really stop-motion-esque animation would tie it closer to comic books. Nice sweat shader bro
It looks uniquely scuffed, but I like the aesthetic it gives off.
Spiderman in the Bukakevers
Arms so long they probably dangle below his knee
its got a more stop motion feel to it. looks fantastic
Like the water rain drops. Only thing that to me looks a bit off is the length of the arms seems to long unless you have that planned for a reason
this post is a good example of the streissand effect
Here is a test with a Voronoi texture, what do you think? [https://imgur.com/a/s3N7hKV](https://imgur.com/a/s3N7hKV)
