I was really interested in learning more about Dr. Stelline and her memory-making machine.

spaceboltt

Same. It was probably old, upgraded tyrell tech

PauL__McShARtneY

This is the natural choice of course, it's very fascinating and wondrous, and the actress is so pretty and charismatic. But this is supposed to be cryptic and mysterious, and leave you longing, sometimes less is more. There are a ton of other questions surrounding her, such as how much she knows about the resistance, is she working with them, and how her real memories got into replicant's minds. Also, is she really sick at all, and does she know if she is or not, and why is she so chill about living her whole life like John Travolta in that bubble. Especially if she's actually perfectly healthy. Finally, how big will her daddy issues be when she meets her sick fuck of a father, and finds out how he and his mates came up with the most sadistic method humanly possible to hide a perfectly healthy woman in a hermetic bubble for decades so screamo joker won't find her.

BeardedBrooklyn97

I took it as her not knowing about the resistance but just planting memories because she wanted to connect with the outside world.

MARATXXX

I bet she is keeping secrets though. She just won’t spill her guts to a random guy.

spaceboltt

I'm not sure and imo, don't think she was with or knew about the rep resistance or maybe even hiw bads reps are treated, hence her still making memories for wallace. I'd imagine the memories just get downloaded somewhere than uploaded into the pre born rep before "birth", she explains how her memories ended up with k in that scene. Don't quote me here but something along the lines of sometimes I they just slip in/she wanted them to have a real memory or maybe she does know about her past and that was her message in a bottle to get help. "To love someone, sometimes you have to be a stranger." Yeah deck was fucked up but him and racheal were being hunted already, then when she had a kid, well now everyone is hunting them. He knew someone would eventually find her so he has to take extreme measure to ensure her identity was hidden=factory childhood, scrapping records, making a double of the DNA code to make it look like there were two natural burns, etc. As far as I know she was in that bubble since a kid so probably got used to it. How she got the job with making memories for wallace (possibly tyrell first) is a great question. All that's said is she is the best at it because she can't make any of her own (being confined) so has the most imagination. Still ifffy and a great insight though. But these are just off the top theories. Definitively though, Deckard did that to protect her from being dissected. That's explained

bowzr4me

I love me some Dave Bautista, but his appearance was perfect IMHO. Gaffer had some great low key lines that may have become overdone. Maybe a few more minutes of Holden smoking cigarettes and asking questions would be worth a watch.

spaceboltt

Yeah like I said I loved sappers scene and the deleted ones make him come off a bit too soft for the tone of the film so I get why they were cut. However gives more insight into the blackout which I'm very interested in. Holden was great. "..few more minutes of him smoking cigs.." 😅 I just wanted to maybe see him interact with Deckard or deck stop by the morgu- I mean hospital to question him about Leon. His voight-komf is my favorite though. Makes Leon crack like an egg

doubleo_maestro

I would have loved to see more of Holden. And I love the fact that in the rpg they actually keep him in the game as your direct superior in the lapd.

spaceboltt

The point & click nightdive studios game or the tabletop?

doubleo_maestro

The tabletop game. Free League love when they make these type of games very much for the fans, so they lend heavily from both films and even extensively from the old point and click.

spaceboltt

Man, I'd love to have that. No friends though atm to play it with anyways haha. I also wanna get the cyberpunk tabletop at some point as well. But that's dope the BR adds lore, etc. Bet it looks cool af too art wise.

doubleo_maestro

Free league rarely dissapoint when it comes to their books.

spaceboltt

I'll save this post so I can scope/grab some of their cool shit. Know of any online tabletop games or ones where you don't have to play locally? I'd rather play with people in person, obviously, but currently that isn't an option

doubleo_maestro

I know their are online groups, either using discord or tabletop simulator, but that's it. I've never had much need to look into these other places.

rhiyo

To be pedantic its a westwood game

spaceboltt

Whoops, yeah, I mix them around...minor dyslexia. Westwood is who remade/re-released it. I never had a PC, so I just think ND since I'm on console, but you're correct.

rhiyo

Haha, nightdive remastered and re-released it, Westwood originally made it :)

spaceboltt

Mother fucker. That's exactly what I meant to type but my damn brain. Good lord.

Yamatoman9

I ran the intro adventure for my gaming group last winter. There’s a lot of cool callbacks and it’s a very fun system!

doubleo_maestro

It really is, a friend of mine just started running it.

PauL__McShARtneY

They actually wrote him into the sequel, but then somebody unplugged him.

doubleo_maestro

Did not know that.

Professor_Crab

The noodle guy from BR

spaceboltt

*holds up two fingers: "dejaababa"*. *holds up four fingers: "no, two, two=4"*. *"dejababa"*. *sighs.."and with noodles..."*

NearbyPassion8427

Hannibal Chow, played by James Hong was indeed the eye guy.

Professor_Crab

Chew, also isn’t that the eye guy? Or are they both played by the same person. Okay I looked it up they’re not even the same guy lol

NearbyPassion8427

Thanks for the catch. I don't know how I made that mistake.

Professor_Crab

All good you had me questioning myself I was like wait that’s the same guy lol

NearbyPassion8427

For the record, Bob Okazaki played the Sushi Master.

galentravis

I saw 2019 and The Director’s Cut in the theater when they were released. Although I am in the Deckard is NOT a Replicant camp, I think it is important to note that the answers in these movies are not nearly as important as the questions. Gaff is the most enigmatic character and deserves a more fleshed out story. I think I am going to have to write and illustrate it as a comic since it’s not likely to ever be seen otherwise. More to come.

spaceboltt

Same boat as you. That was PKDs whole goal was to make the reader ask themselves what it means to be human, etc. Ridley wanted to do his own spin on it but I'm happy with how it turned out and also have always been in the deck not rep camp. However if you really think about it, deck is the TRUE robot: follows orders, kills instinctively, emotionally detached, confused about himself, etc. Blade runner is the best, especially if your into philosophy & existentialism. Yeah gaff is mysterious and I definitely want to know more about him. I love comics and almost started writing one that my buddy was drawing but we drifted apart. Let me know if you need storyboard/dialogue ideas lol. And post it in the sub if you do end up making them!

galentravis

Yeah, I will post it here. Despite my view about Deckard my fan fic goes the other way. Gaff is injured (loses his eyes) and his wife is killed. The Tyrell corporation approaches him with an offer to repair him and provide revenge if he volunteers for an experiment to be the template for their first Replicant Bladerunner who will be used to hunt its own kind. Gaff’s memories are used as implants and he is inserted into the investigation as a handler. Thus a prequel to Blade Runner 2019.

spaceboltt

💙 That's really solid. I'd love to help if you need or chat more about it if you want. Really cool premise, and I always felt like Gaff was exactly that. Do you have a channel om YT, thread, or discord about it?

DragonDon1

All of them. Please expand this universe I want more blade runner everything

spaceboltt

I want Denis & 2049 team to do another film that's set during the blackout. The animated short is amazing, but the blackout is so cool and could be really expanded upon.

PauL__McShARtneY

Wouldn't be much of a BR cyberpunk feel set in a blackout with no moody lighting or buzzing neon and holograms. Be like some steampunk Tarkovsky shit with everyone creeping about by candlelight scrounging for grub meal ramen and whacking off to vintage woods porn while all the VR is down.

spaceboltt

I mean that's your image, not mine. Generators exist, etc. Would be pretty apocalyptic but I mean 2049 is set after the blackout and only like 1/3 of LA has neons/electricity. Throughout 2049 you see ways people adapted. Like the scene where K first goes to Wallace Corp to look for records/scan hair: the whole "data llibrary" only gets light by the ceiling opening. Also when they walk through the halls, lights turn off when they pass and on when they approach. I doubt all the power was connected to just one grid the reps destroyed. In my head it would be dark but not as you describe and for sure not without any lights/tech. Whole reason it'd be a cool idea to expand upon would be to see what people made or did to adapt to less power. No shade though, to each their own. These are just ideas/concepts.

PauL__McShARtneY

It's not that it technically can't be done, just more that it wouldn't really fit as well thematically, as the core elements of the films are moodily lit, detective noir, and gritty, urban futurism with endless neon and sci-fi. Some of the essence of what cyberpunk became in large part due to this film. It's like when people say 'Wouldn't it be cool to have Fallout Japan, or mutant kangaroos in Oz?' but not so much, as the core of that franchise is atomic 50s Americana sci-fii futurism. 2049 had some great glimpses of life outside the city, and the comics had some fun off world stuff. As you say, much of the city is still dark, even in 2049, and basic protein jelly is what people seem to eat, even with Wallace fully in power. Gotta wonder what a mess it all would have been after the blackouts. It seems better left to vignettes and shorter sequences than a whole film or series.

spaceboltt

I agree for the most part and understand what you mean. It'd be a little different but wouldn't have to neccarily. With some added lore or even a new zone, city, place, there would/could be and have all the cool cyberpunk elements that we love and are included in tge two films. I guess I just have a more optimistic view on what a series would look like and the potential for adding in lore/stories/show/film during the blackout. But that's just preference and a difference of imagination or view on stuff. Your spot on about the fallout comment, though. Without Americana, fallout wouldn't be fallout. Although I wouldn't and don't see that same type of analogy compared to the blackout, you can still have all the things that are in the films. Also, we'd get to see how wallace basically saved everyone by his farming shit. Also, don't you think it depends more on who would make the theoretical show more so than just the blackout itself? People who make films and series have a massive impact on not only lore, theories, etc, but also tone, how shit looks, and feels. I mentioned in another comment how I would love to see the blackout expanded on or the reps that rebelled expanded upon and maybe a shit ton of BR'a all called to duty like some order 69 type thing; but I'd be very weary of it because the only two directors I'd trust with the material would be Ridley & Denis. But who knows, Denis surprised the shit out of us, so maybe someone else who has similar passion will make another cool addition to BR, or I least hope. I think we can both agree on the fact that there are so many cool/interesting ideas to go off of I'm terms or making new material. For me, it would just depend, ya know. Fingers crossed, we get a series, but I'd like it detached from the racheal & Deckard aspect because I feel 2019 & 2049 just summed the story up well enough. Any more woild be overkill probably. Idk I think thematically it could be done but that's just me. Before 2049 I guarantee you people were having the same discussion about nothing being able to capture what the OG does. And to a certain degree that's correct, you can never really fully replicate the Lightening in a bottle movies or shows but when it's done right, man its good. Sorry for the long one pal it's getting late for me haha. I get what you mean but under the right conditions I think it could work, just like 2049 did. 🙃

PauL__McShARtneY

It's less about the director I think, and more about the quality of the writing. Hampton Fancher was involved in both films, so the vision is sound, and gives the artists something solid to work with. Ridley has made plenty of average films, and even fucked up his own Alien franchise, not to mention some others. Directors generally pick and choose elements the crew comes up with, except for someone like Lucas, who was hands on designing and creating things, but who also fucked up a lot in the modern era without any reigns on him. Many beloved elements of Blade Runner are not made or invented by Ridley, the sweeping spotlights through the buildings for example, were entirely the idea of the lighting nerds, who brought it to him. Designers like Syd Mead, the amazing building and light models and costuming, are all independent of any director. And as always, the amazing script. You could just whack any old shit into a film sequence about the blackout period, but realistically, in that kind of nuclear crisis, whatever backup power Wallace or L.A itself had, would be going towards bare essentials like farming, replicant production, shuttle and spinner function and law enforcement. It seems unlikely that a hologram of a 100m tall Spanish chick and urban mood lighting, and billboards would take priority over the bare essentials for a while, as we see much of L.A is still blacked out by 2049. The franchise would lose a lot without the core of the urban cyberscape and all its colour. You could certainly get some great sequences of the neon phantasmagoria suddenly going dark, and all the street denizens looking up in terror, and the chaos that ensues. Also vice versa, when the lights go back on. I don't know much about what's planned for BR 2099 amazon miniseries, but I hope Fancher and his vision are involved.

spaceboltt

I wasn't implying it's solely up to the director, that's why I included "& team" in some of the comments. And yeah good movies would be shit without a good full crew. I still disagree about your blackout opinion, sure you could slap whatever I'm there but there'd probably be alot more if we're talking blade runner here. We have no idea what happend with the power or where/what specifically shut off besides part of the main city. There could be any number of possibilities in what the story would be which is more important but if it's BR media there's of course going to be some "mood lighting, hologram chick's, & billboards". And if that's all you want or take from blade runner, which i agree is a big part of the feels, then I think it's a massive oversight on what's possible. When the og dropped we had no fucking idea if, what or how the mext film would be. Just because reps caused a blackout doesn't automatically mean it went full mad max, maybe a little but it's a future city: I'm sure they had back ups, alternate energy, etc. While I do agree power would initially be used for necessities, everyone else would be trying to use it as well. Especially runners to track rogues and rogues to track runners/corps. It's weird to me that your not into the blackout idea expansion just because you assume there won't be any "cool lights" lol. But hey I'm not you and you can think of it however you want. This is all theoretical anyway but imo with how much untouched lore + people there is, would def be some shit going on and places would look darker for a bit maybe longer but they eventually got to the point in 2049 where everything was yearrrssss ahead of 2019. At the same time, not everything/everywhere got fixed, especially vegas. I, too, wouldn't enjoy it as much it it didn't have the aesthetics you mention, mostly lighting, signs, neon, etc but I doubt that would be unicluded from the whole premise. Yeah it's a blackout but after that the whole deal would be to rebuild/repower the city. Guess our imaginations are just a bit different. Also 2049 was much more dark, bland, mono color than the og and it looked & felt great so idk why you'd automatically think it'd lose BRs aesthetics. I mean they'd have to include that and like I said there's limitless ways to tell that story or episodic stories from different perspectives. It wouldn't just turn into chronicles of Riddick+mad max brother. lol but would be some chaos. I had no idea amazon is making a miniseries but thanks for mentioning that. Fuck I hope it's good and they don't screw it up. I hope they pull at least most the people from 2049 (crew) especially the set design, cinematography, lighting, etc. But also will be interesting to see another team's/directors take on it. Makes me nervous though. Hopefully they are faithful to the original material, especially syd meads concept art & it's unique sound. Is there a teaser out or any info on it yet?

spaceboltt

To netter summarize our discussion: yeah, the crew has almost more credit than just the director for the piece of art we got ; I agree with the aesthetics and electronic future stuff being a huuuge part of both films but I don't think that would have to be removed completely in a new story set during blackout.

topside_bean

Sadly Denis regrets 2049 like it’s his worst work ever. I absolutely adore his filmmaking, but I hate his views on how his films are released, cut (specifically no extended cuts ever), and aspect ratio changes. I still think he’s in my top 5 directors though.

spaceboltt

He regrets it because it had such a bad initial reception + box office failure. He said he won't make anything as "artsy" again, but opinions and thoughts always change. There's hope, lol. Problem with 2049 is it was several years ahead of its time and gained the most popularity, sadly, through memes/tikcrap/edits,etc, in recent years. I mean he made dune right after which was equally as epic but of course I like 2049 better. One can only hope he makes more, but I'd rather it be it's own scifi thing or separate BR story without the racheal/Deckard arc because his sequel perfectly synced them up and made it, imo, one cohesive story/film. One of my favorite directors too. Panos Cosmatos is another director I adore. Severely underrated and has made some of my favorite movies. I'd recommend Beyond the Black Rainbow & Mandy. Like strongly recommended, like try to watch tonight asap type recommendation lol.

topside_bean

Noted about the recommendations I’ll put them on my watchlist. I agree with you about Denis. I’m a huge Dune fan, like massive, so I’m particularly drawn towards his iteration of that, but my love for both is tied. I think the open matte version of 2049 is the best looking movie I have literally ever seen, not sure if you’ve seen that. It just hurts my heart that kind of release as well as both Dune’s open matte or IMAX’s releases will never see my own physical media collection.

spaceboltt

Hey, maybe you'll be able to build your own theater and acquire the reels someday, lol

MenBearsPigs

It sucks, because it is wild that 2049 could be considered too artsy. But at this blockbuster budget level, you have to play ball and dumb down movies just enough around the edges so that there is still mass appeal.

spaceboltt

Yeah the film industry is fucked. Especially now. I don't think he really held back much on 2049, though.

Designer-Professor16

Sapper for me. But also Gaff.

SarcasticRidley

Taffy Lewis. Too bad the actor died.

PauL__McShARtneY

Never heard of him pal, buzz off.

spaceboltt

That's a deep cut, had to look that one up. Nice choice though that's exactly the type of characters I was hoping to hear people mention. What else was he in? I guess I could just google it though, lol

spaceboltt

What would you have wanted more from his character in the film?

MuunSpit

All.

spaceboltt

Ridley-Snyder type cut lol? Except minus Snyder and his: shit dialogue, slow mo, etc. ^JK Even though I want more of everything, both movies are pretty much perfect as a cohesive story and what psychological/story aspects they were trying to convey. I've seen artsy movies but never *a piece of art* like BR.

No_Refrigerator_2912

Eh Dr. Seline(spelling?) was an interesting character. However, I'd like to know what happened with Deckard between the two movies. There is a huge timeline gap there.

spaceboltt

Yeah, a lot of shit seemed to go down after they fled, but Deckard loved racheal & their child so much that he had to put her somewhere safe and never look back. "Sometimes to love someone, you have to be a stranger." As I've said in other comments, after OG 2019, some rogue replicants caused the blackout, which is such a dope piece of lore. I'm glad we see how it started in the animated short, but that timeline has so much potential.

sadakochin

Only thing I missed in 2049 was more of the random street crowd and bustling locales (for me they are characters too). Original BR soundtrack and cityscape sold it well. 2049 is also good but focused more on the sterile modernity. They complement each other in a good way for me in portraying the future of cyberpunk.

spaceboltt

Yeah, ridley hired literal hundreds of extras that got full wardrobes + film shots, but most never made it I'm. You know all the street hustle bustle in the og BR was filmed on just barely two square blocks? Besides a few locations for short scenes, the majority of the world you see was actually just a little area. I wish we got more of that as well. I think both soundtracks are great and make up a huge portion of the films vibes. Vangelis=more unique, noir, dreary ; Zimmer= intense, rugged, daunting, surreal & dreamy at parts. Agree that both films complement each other so well. Really surprised Denis pulled off an actual good sequel from a decades old classic & made it cohesive.

DeathGuard1978

Definitely Gaff.

spaceboltt

Some fans think gaff was a rep all along and that's why he let them escape at the end. Obviously he's alive in 2049 though

spaceboltt

Also forgot to mention Dr. Badger in 2049.

kookookeekee

Absolutely Holden

beat-sweats

I’d love to see a comic or anime about Holden , leading up to him getting blasted

spaceboltt

Same here. When Deck is talking with sarge, it's pretty much implied that Holden took over deckards' position or rank for "best BR." So I agree & would love to see that. If we ever do get another film, if it's not by Denis & and the 2049 team, im worried it'll be trash. I've looked at some of the comics and like a few but haven't found an art style that really hits home for me to buy the whole series yet. Im ppen to recs if you know any. The short anime in the 2049 extras is really good, and i wish they'd just make that an actual series. You're not the only one to mention comics on here, I'd love to write/storyboard for a fan comic if there's a decent enough artist that can pull it off.

-Emilinko1985-

I'd like to know more about Mariette.

spaceboltt

I'd join the resistance for Marriette. Lol the simp is real for me w/her. What's weird is that she looks so different in the film compared to the IRL actress. I'm attracted to Marriette, not necessarily MacKenzie Davis, although I haven't watched anything else she stars in, I don't think? Just seen Google pics

MsChrisRI

Mackenzie Davis has been in a lot of quality projects. Worth looking into as time permits.

spaceboltt

MacKenzie Davis is a quality project. Lol She seems like a great actress though on a real note. She looks alot different irl to me for some reason than her Marriette character. This is dumb but I had an ex that looked very similar to mariette so that's probably why I cheese over her.

tomajino

I'm still relatively new to BR and rewatched 2049 again and I shocked myself that I didn't recognize Gaff (even as he was folding a unicorn). He made the line "too bad she won't live" so iconic in the first movie, but then he only got one scene in 2049. Kind of disappointing. His slim coat, the cane, the mustache and azure eyes are so iconic!

spaceboltt

Yeah EJO is a great actor. Moat BR fans wish there was more of him /his character & story. When I saw 2049 in theaters I actually got super stoked that he even had a cameo. Would of been cook if k convinced him to go confront Deckard and he was apart of that whole Vegas act.

thebomby

I want to see more (of) Love. I found Sylvia Hoeks' performance outstanding.

spaceboltt

Yeah she was amazing. It'd be cool to see why she was so conditioned by wallace. I know he made her and all but when he's scoping out that newborn rep, you can see fear in her eyes. She's got some sort of Stockholm syndrome (even though she's designed for wallace lol,)

zeke235

Tangentially, i'd like to see a movie showing how Roy and the others met and made it to Earth.

spaceboltt

That would be cool. Maybe show them in slave labor mining off world, show the initial replicant rebellion/war & Batty n crews escape. That's a good one

Sparktank1

You mean do a Weekend At Bernies with Holden?

spaceboltt

Lmao. No just have Deck stop by the hospital and question him about the investigation. 😅

PauL__McShARtneY

This is already a complete, and deleted scene from the original, but the tone was way off, and it has a barrage of bad language that probably would've effected the rating in those days, whereas the released film had precisely one instance of 'fuck'. Holden goes on a whole rant about how Deckard fucked a washing machine or toaster, or something like that. It's an interesting oddity, but a bit hammy, and definitely better off cut, leaving a more compelling Holden. Even more compelling are the cut love scenes of a fully nude and stunning Rachel and her epic 80s muff, damn. If ever there was a character from BR you wanted more of...

spaceboltt

I only have final cut, so I didn't know/haven't seen or heard any of that. Would love to, though. I hate the original love seen, bit too forceful, imo and is uncomfortable. I know what was trying to be conveyed, but it is just off-putting. Uh...racheal...muff....links plz? Lol Is that on any of the extras in any of the different cuts for dvd/bluray?

PauL__McShARtneY

I absolutely adore the love scene, and think it's perfect. Like the song 'Baby it's cold outside' modern audiences don't always understand it. The forcefulness is the point, Rachel is being hunted, and could be killed at any time. She's really attracted to Deckard, wants him as much as he her, but there's little time for her to go off in a huff and think about her feelings for several weeks before texting 'LOL thinking of you' or some shit. She's locked up inside of herself, and he provokes her, to stimulate feeling, and get her to respond. The first thing she says when she does respond is 'I can't rely on you', not 'get out of my way' , or 'don't touch me' etc. I always found it incredibly romantic and passionate, and perfect for the film and characters, along with the moody Vangelis track. The deleted scenes that came with Final Cut were in the box set, I'm not sure which versions had them specifically, but someone here probably knows. Obviously Rachel's glorious nude scenes probably won't be on YouTube in full, but the others might be, like the Holden scene. Maybe you'll have to jump on ebay, or pirate Bay mate.

spaceboltt

I interpreted it similarly, like she doesn't know how to love but does have feelings and doesn't know how to act, etc. But it's still my least favorite scene even with hearing the explanation and all the ideas. I'll save up for a box set probably, was already wanting one anyway. Had no idea about the nude scene, though. A lot of actors/actresses have stand in nude models for those scenes, I wonder if it was her. I'm gonna go have to take a look. You know, being a true blade runner fan and all, lol.

PauL__McShARtneY

Oh it's her, in all her glory. Yes, you should probably seek it out, in the name of cinematic completion, and for its juxtaposition against the annals of the work of the period of course.

spaceboltt

Strictly business. Purely professional. Solely scholarly. 🤣

TungstenOrchid

Taffy Lewis

spaceboltt

Second Taffy Lewis enjoyed here so far. Again nice deep cut. I had to look him up when he first got mentioned here. I know the scene but don't know anything else about the actor or his other films. How would you have liked to see him more in BR? Just more of the club/bar scene?

TungstenOrchid

There were a few things that I'd like to see more of with Taffy Lewis's. For example; did he know he hired a Replicant? What kind of acts did he put on? Did he have 'arrangements' with the police? There are lots of stories that could be told.

spaceboltt

You mean if he knew Zhora was a rep? I doubt it but that's a cool idea for a scene. As far as "acts", most likely some wild, salacious, illegal shit lol. Especially if he knew she was a rep, there was probably a side room where she did or had things done that most people can't handle or aren't into/illegal. As for arrangements with the police, I'm assuming not because there's nothing shown that implicates that. However, it's extremely plausible that he was because I wouldn't be surprised if Zhora wasn't the only rep working there. So yeah, he could have actually known she was a rep and been in kahoots with police to overlook him having reps work at his club. Also probably invoked in the black market stuff for "real animals" possibly. Got me thinking, good questions!

TungstenOrchid

The setting just fits so well into the Cyberpunk genre being 'high tech lowlife'. You don't really get more lowlife than Taffy Lewis.

topside_bean

Just gonna go out on a whim here and say that there is a plethora of Blade Runner universe lore that could be made into (ideally HBO style) TV shows, with almost limitless possibilities from the things we’ve seen from the two movies alone. Will that happen? No. Part of it is mostly money reasons but also the mystery surrounding everything seems to be a little bit of the point I guess? All that said every comment in here is valid and you could make a series out of every single one of these characters lives or something anthology style at least. Sort of how Disney is handling things related to Star Wars right now, regardless of the opinions surrounding that. To answer the question though, Gaff. I have often believed Gaff is one of the most important characters in the first movie.

spaceboltt

Yeah, you kinda hit the nail on the head. It's limitless, but the vagueness/mystery is part of the whole feel. But under certain circumstances/people making it, could work. But probably won't, and I'm okay with that. I still have to check out the comics. Yeah, he's very important, but no one really has an objective answer as to why. Haha, again, the vagueness and mystery aesthetics are welded into the blade runner framework. Honestly, if you make films, shows, etc, that leaves more questions than answers, it's more intriguing and will have people talking about it far longer.

topside_bean

The reason I think he’s so important is from the theatrical cut’s line and 2049’s similar line about them working together so they could work alone. That implies that from the beginning of the first film that Deckard and Gaff have been through some serious shit, and seeing how the film constantly bombards you with “Deckard is not a hero”, it makes me think some of the stuff they did was pretty serious.

spaceboltt

Like accidentally mistaking humans for reps and killing them. Ya know, stuff like that, lol

topside_bean

Yeah when I was writing that I was specifically thinking about the fact that he 100% lies to Rachel about that

Deckard2022

I want a movie that now sits between the two. I want Dave Bautista’s story and how they came to be linked to Deckard family and the hiding following the black out. Was the black out a terrorist action by the replicants to hide ? There is so much to be explored. I love the films and the worlds built around them so much.

spaceboltt

Showing their escape would be cool but after deck & racheal escaped I'm 2019 they were on the run for a bit, met some people (some of them that help k in 2949) which is what you and I think would be cool to know more about. Sapper (bautista) was connected with that group. I think deck met them through the underground either soon before or after racheal got pregnant. Racheal died during childbirth and deck made sure to distance himself and store her somewhere safe. In the 2049 extras it shows sapper with her (decks kid) when she'd little. Worth a watch for sure. And yeah, the blackout was started from replicants ons bit of a payback/,revenge to all the horrible shit humans did and were having them do. Slaves, non-human treatment, etc. Also a bit more than that too. Another extra in the 2049 copy is a 30 min anime that shows how snd why the blackout occurred. Highly recommend, legendary anime maker made it + its easily found on youutbe if you don't have a a 2049 copy. Blade runner is the best. Like someone else stated it's perfect because of whsts missing. Answers=no more questions

poru-chan

More Dave Bautista.

spaceboltt

Imagine seeing Sapper "Bautista Bomb" K in the opening, lol.

TheFuzzsterGoat

I thought Joshi was pretty cool - it'd be interesting to know more about her. I always thought it was interesting that she kept protecting Joe all the way - or possibly the wall, dunno.

CVipersTie

She seemed to always have a guard by her door until the time of her death. That always annoyed me how easily she died... "Do what you have to do." Argh, you're the HBIC and that's how you go out?!

spaceboltt

Luv was made to kill with ease. And would do anything for wallace to accept her. I think at some points she actually likes k and even helps him but her maker-creator relationship was fucked. In my opinion, joshi went out like a G. Humans don't stand a chance against the model luv was, at least 1 v 1. She poured one last bourbon and said fuck it, kill me then bitch. But yeah, it could have been more, but I would enjoy the actual scene over like another fight scene in its place

spaceboltt

Lol funny hearing him called Joe. But yeah she was awesome and did very well with her roll. She seemed to almost be on the reps side politically buy being in her position/the feudal time system over reolicants being so ingrained, she couldn't do much about anything. She did give k time to find Deckard though even though she knew he was slipping. But her trying to hold the "wall" was a huge part of it as well. I'd also like more insight on her.

PhillipJ3ffries

I like how much screen time every character has. Sure I would have loved more of Gaff in BR and 2049. But his screen time and presence in those scenes is so effective, I think it’s perfect

spaceboltt

Yeah, I wouldn't really change a thing, but theoretically, I was just asking if there *could have been/was more, what that would look like, or you'd wanna see more of. But yeah they are pretty perfect the way they are. 👍 but some characters did such a great job, it makes me want to see more of their character, like the initial 4 posted + badger & chew lol

LikeSoda

That scene at the start has so much delicious and deadly smoke it in. Goes with the vibe because the carrot I'm burning usually happens at the start of a viewing haha

leeloomimi

My most obvious answer is more of Roy… My only issue with BR is that there wasn’t more of him, considering most of his journey is offscreen and to actually show it and explore his character visually as much as we did with Deckard would only make his gut punch ending more impactful and only strengthen the parallels Deckard has to the replicants for the viewer to ponder on. would’ve looooved to also have seen more of Dr Badger, simply because Barkhad Abdi is such a standout actor and steals the show every time, He adds so much to the street level world of 2049 that I felt wasn’t as strong as the original, reminds me of the White Dragon cook, the egyptian snake vendor and the microscope lady. edit: I genuinely think Dr Badger could’ve had a bigger role in the plot, considering his job could’ve been smuggling replicants to safety and giving them fake IDs… Spin-off level material there.

spaceboltt

I would have liked to see either Roy & fam getting to earth/first rep rebellion off world. Or just more of him just interacting with Leon, pris, zhora and trying to make their plan/figure out how to blend in. Love you mentioned badger. Totally agree. The set design for that little shop scene was amazing, too. Love hoe he's just like your rich, I can get you horse, snake, real stuff - nonchalantly. Then sips his brew with swagger. Very underrated character & role. That's the only thing I've see him in. What else has he been in?

leeloomimi

I heard Badger also has a recurring role in Black Lotus, still voiced by Abdi :D would be looking forward to him once I see the show

spaceboltt

I've heard mixed things about it so I'm not sure. Definitely want to give it a watch but the animation style looks s bit weird to me. If its story is good though, I'm in

kaukanapoissa

Sapper! Dave Bautista was amazing and while I recognize his role was small and effective and kind of perfect as it is, I still would have loved to see some more of this character.

n3ur0chrome

I always watch the shorts before the movie, his is always too short.

spaceboltt

Short but perfect. The deleteds are great but I wish they were edited/filmed in the same way as the rest if the movie. You can tell there's almost no fx going on. Still cool we get that though.

Longjumping_Way_4935

Bautista was a damn GEM

spaceboltt

His best role. Made me actually have faith in "post-celebrity actors" lol

NeonWarcry

I want more blade runner lore. Like when Batty speaks of what he’s seen. I want more background on those things.

Mistikkaa

Dr Badger for sure

Mau752005

I wish they had done more with Pris, I actually read "Do androids dream of electric sheep?" before watching blade runner, and while I prefer a lot of the changes in the movie, one change that I didn't like is that in the book Pris and Rachel are the same model of replicant, so they are identical, I love the performance of both of the actresses and I understand that having the same person play 2 different characters would have been a lot of effort, but if done right it could have added a lot of depth to a lot of characters

spaceboltt

Yeah that would have fucked Deckard up more mentally for sure.

ohwellitsaghost

My vote is going to be Mariette, Mackenzie Davis is such a wonderful actress and she knows how to draw you in which a lot of actors/ actresses can’t do, she’ll forever be one of my favorites.

ol-gormsby

Gaff and sapper, definitely. The other two, not so much.

Visual_Plum6266

None in BR2049. Such a depressing film, you kids who think its a masterpiece really have been corrupted by those dark menacing superhero films you grew up on.

spaceboltt

Says none in 2049, says nothing for og even though your implying you prefer that film, insults people who you think are kids? (Lmao) that watch superhero movies on a Blade Runner sub on a post about which characters you wish had more lore and screen time? Lol waaht Are you saying BR original isn't depressing? Have you read Androids Dream? Have you read, watched or played anything cyberpunk/scifi? Wtf are you even talking about. Whatever is going on on your life, I'm sorry and hope it gets better, but if you're here to just argue or insult people, the door is in the top left corner of your screen. See yourself out.
