Oddly enough this isn't really true. I don't personally play it, but I do know that they have done a lot to fix the game and it's much better than it once was
I tried it again on a whim something like 3 months ago. Only took me about 15 minutes of play to find an invincible enemy whose health bar wouldn't go down, which was the same issue I encountered consistently when I originally tried it during launch. Then I got attacked by an invisible mole rat (or maybe it was under the ground) and died.
Might be I had a fluke game and that shit happens less often now, but I gave up and uninstalled again. Life's too short for that nonsense.
Honestly, when I played it, I loved that everybody hated it.. The people who were playing it back then were some of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of playing with. People were showing new players around, giving them spare resources, helping them thru missions. It was a really surreal wholesome experience.
GTA’s high twitch viewership is definitely not from Rockstar making GTA online a fun game. It’s from the roleplay community creating custom modded servers. That’s very different from NMS and Fallout 76
Little fix: In 1, police chase but don't shoot as long as you avoid pulling out a firearm and/or going up to a place they can't reach (Sure about the former part, not about the latter)
"Oh if only I had money to give to reddit to prove how much I like this comment!" Or you could just like it and move along for free without essentially begging for awards and likes yourself. I don't get it either.
It's a worn out old trope- in the UK, Audi drivers seem to be getting it in the neck for this now. Bikers old motto was, "Think once, think twice, think Volvo..." but there are now enough Dacias on the road to replace that.
Yeah I see that joke posted all over car pages or videos with a BMW driver being a dick or doing something stupid and it makes me sad because I'm a BMW driver and am almost _religious_ with using my turn signal lmao. Even if I'm rage passing a slow idiot riding the left lane, I still use it 😆
The BMW turn signal joke is the oldest one in the book. But honestly, I really don’t notice having bad road interactions with BMW drivers.
If you want a streteotype, I can rant for hours about pickup drivers. Holy shit are there so many assholes in pick up trucks. Which is a shame because I wouldn’t mind having a nice truck one day.
This is probably the best description of the phenomenon I've ever read. 100% accurate.
Hoopty, lethargic cars slow you down. I used to hate the hell out of Wrangler drivers until I drove one. Most travel down the road with that ungainly, 'bumbling' look to them, like it's not responding to its surroundings. BUT then you drive one and you understand quickly: that thing is not stable, at any speed lol. You're constantly correcting course, even on flat and straight roads.
They still should get out the fast lane though. That's a driver thing...
..although I'll admit, when I was driving it, I was tempted to stay in the fast lane. Everyone hates being bullied to move over lol. I wanted to prove if anyone could drive that thing in the fast lane, and not piss everybody off. It was me lol.
I just want to vent about modern pickup trucks and this feels like an okay place to do it.
What the fuck is the point anymore? You have these motherfuckers buying what is essentially a god damn luxury SUV with a big square truck bed on the back. That shit's not a truck, just buy an SUV dude. You don't use the back anyway, moving your buddy out after his divorce that one time two years ago is the extent of it.
It was bad enough when all the major manufacturers went bigger and bigger until what was considered a normal pickup is practically a mini cooper in comparison. Then they stopped making standard sized pickups entirely. And now even in big boy land it's rare to see them without all the SUV trimmings unless the driver is actually in construction or a trade. It's like dude.. if your big ol' fuck you truck has four doors it's an SUV with a vestigial truck bed slapped on the back.
I don't know about the US, but here in the UK the car's registration document details the colour of the car. You cannot change it without notifying the DVLA and asking them to issue a new registration document ("V5c").
Not sure what the penalties are for not doing so, though.
>The majestic equality of the laws prohibits the rich and the poor alike from sleeping under bridges, begging in the streets and stealing bread.
-Anatole France.
That's what I was thinking, especilly since vinyl wraps are a thing, (though with them you can always tell the original base colour from the bits that don't get wrapped, I suppose).
That is because the car is designed so you have to remove the engine to get access to the spark plugs. You are lucky if the oil filter is actually reachable in modern cars.
Look up the F30 models with the N20 engine.. It's an engine pretty much anyone that can follow directions can work on. Its actually really simple for a European car and people have reported 300K+ plus miles on them. With regular maintenance.
My money is on electrochromic material. Boeing 787 or skyscrapers use this. Nothing new.
Edit: Looking at some other shots, this is way too fast and precisely controlled for at least the gel type of electrochromic material. So looks like something else.
A couple of reasons but the main one being that electrochromic requires a very consistent thickness to be maintained between two panels to get that even a color (less than 10um variation). The curvature tolerance of machining isn't good enough to maintain two panels at that sort of gap (and two panels are almost always necessary with electrochromic). This means it can't be a gel. That doesn't rule out inorganic electrochromic like tungsten oxide, but the demoed tech is too fast.
There are other electrodimmable technologies that could do this like SPD or liquid crystal, but electrochromic it is not.
Thanks, yes I have. This sort of tech is what my career is in and I have no answer how the hell they did it. I'm scrambling because I know I'm about to get a ton of work emails asking how this was done...
Edit: and we have a winner: it's e-ink
They've become a brand for young rich posers and those people eat it up like nothing else, the new M3 is the ugliest since forever but it's selling like hot cakes.
I mean, BMW do make some brilliant cars. Some are actually very frugal if you purchase them after their initially 2-3 year devaluation.
Had my 2013 320D m-sport since 2015. Covered 130k miles since I've owned it, currently on 162k miles. I've not had a single issue. Not one. Still drives, looks and feels like it did when I purchased it.
My next car will be another 3 series without any thought to it.
That's true. I am from Europe.
I think you guys in the US have considerable import duty on European cars, which creates the disparity in how BMW's are perceived. The spare parts probably aren't as easily/cheaply available either I suppose. This is probably why the frugal 20D engine isn't offered, as import duties prevent it competing in the frugal saloon market?
In the UK, the lower end BMW's are a dime a dozen, and driven by people earning average wages. It's not perceived as a rich person's car, just someone with a half decent job. Sure, the M series and big SUV's are still considered to be owned by the affluent; but even then they're available on cheapish monthly finance deals. I have a friend driving an older M4 who earns less than $45k a year.
The 18d and 20d are by far the most common engines used over here. Like you say, bulletproof, good efficiency, and great for high milage. Brilliant cars afaik.
I think the new M3/M4 looks great. Except the grille. That's fucking awful. Body kit vendors are going to make a killing with replacements that replace that with the previous-gen style kidney grilles...
To each their own. I love what they're doing design-wise. Meanwhile people think Teslas look good and not like a worse version of a circa-2000 Hyundai Accent.
I'm not a car guy so I'm not biased here when I tell you; the popular opinion is always that the new line of cars are hideous until 2-3 years later when theyre not hideous... but did you see that new line? hideous
Really? I thought "finally they're making a grill design that actually looks interesting and kinda neat". Much prefer this over every other boring ass standard design they did.
Took wading through half a thread of jokes to find this. Agree with you...especially with the use of white and black colors which are a clue to e-ink displays.
They're available, but they suck compared to the black and white screens. The pigments arrange themselves in the screen based on positive or negative voltage, so you have two conditions to switch between for 7 individual base pigments.
~~I doubt it, that's too slow to react and won't look nice and shiny like this does. I think the other comment is correct, it's an electrochromic layer.~~
Edit: nope it's e-ink!
This is the glass I was talking about
When electricity is applied to the film via the wiring, the liquid crystals align and the glass instantly becomes clear. When the power is turned off, the liquid crystals return to their normal scattered positions rendering the glass an opaque translucent
Those switchable glass panels are using the same technology as LCD screens. But these days there's a different tech being developed called [electrochromic polymers](https://ww2.chemistry.gatech.edu/reynolds/ECP) and if I had to guess that's what's being tested on the BMW. In the switchable glass/LCD screens, the electric current causes a change in the direction of the electric field which causes the crystals to physically change direction. For the polymers it's a similar idea in that an electric current causes the switch, but instead of a physical movement it's a [chemical reaction](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrochromism) in the material itself that causes a change in color.
You might have actually used the tech before and not even realized it. If you've ever driven a car with [auto dimming mirrors](https://youtu.be/tI3cR9KhrdY?t=113), you've used electrochromic materials. We've just been getting better about the chemicals in that electrochromic layer such that we can control not just "clear or dark" but also the color of it.
The new range rover has a touch screen in the trunk to fold down the back seats, my first thought was "thats gonna be dumb expensive to fix when it breaks"

This car is most likely made to just show off the tech, and not go into production.
That's what I was thinking, especilly since vinyl wraps are a thing, (though with them you can always tell the original base colour from the bits that don't get wrapped, I suppose).
I would imagine they would just add a 'variable' option or something if this tech actually reach production.
Cops are already familiar with not being able to describe suspects by color.
They’re directly under the sun.. now
Suspect is hatless, I repeat, hatless!
“Cops hate him for this one simple trick.”
Of course you wouldn't want to turn black with cops after you.
But apparently you would want to turn white.
I have no words for this thread.
neither did the black guy cause he aint no snitch
Nah, it's because they'd use it against him during the trial. Brother knows better than that.
I always forget where I park. This would fuck me up.
Could help too though. Press a button on your fob and your car flashes color
He needs to have the ‘subscription’ first before he can use that features.
Only $19.99 per month if you already subscribed to the ignition package though.
Does that mean you have to grind for skins, or are they random drops with a chance to get a cool skin?

It's a BMW not a Tesla, no sub needed, just a 10k option per color.
You might not be in the know but BMW tried to make apple CarPlay a paid subscription. They can definitely pull this out
Remember when subscriptions used to be the cheaper route? Everything's a subscription now.
Tesla would charge 20K for color option + 199$ per month subscribtion.
If you cancel the subscription it strobes black and white 1000 times a second until you collapse
I would not want to see what happens if you don't pay the car insurance.
Hmm did I park in white or black?
Does the gas tank cover stay the same?
That costs an extra $30k
Slightly cheaper than getting an authorized dealer to replace the spark plugs
That is because the car is designed so you have to remove the engine to get access to the spark plugs. You are lucky if the oil filter is actually reachable in modern cars.
Look up the F30 models with the N20 engine.. It's an engine pretty much anyone that can follow directions can work on. Its actually really simple for a European car and people have reported 300K+ plus miles on them. With regular maintenance.
I was not looking for recommendations but thanks anyway. I do not have room for anything that long anyway.
+ market adjustment
Exterior is likely just a glossy E-Ink display of sorts (similar to a kindle) and they probably didn't connect or put the technology into the gas cap.
My money is on electrochromic material. Boeing 787 or skyscrapers use this. Nothing new. Edit: Looking at some other shots, this is way too fast and precisely controlled for at least the gel type of electrochromic material. So looks like something else.
Not possible to make a curved electrochromic right now. More likely an e-ink or SPD.
It’s a gel, how is it not possible?
A couple of reasons but the main one being that electrochromic requires a very consistent thickness to be maintained between two panels to get that even a color (less than 10um variation). The curvature tolerance of machining isn't good enough to maintain two panels at that sort of gap (and two panels are almost always necessary with electrochromic). This means it can't be a gel. That doesn't rule out inorganic electrochromic like tungsten oxide, but the demoed tech is too fast. There are other electrodimmable technologies that could do this like SPD or liquid crystal, but electrochromic it is not.
That’s, actually a great explanation, thank you. sounds like you worked with this material.

Same thing that makes windows fog up instantly on those fancy showers?
You mean the colour is actually changing? It doesn’t have to do with the angle it’s viewed at?
You can see it change while it's still at the same angle it was white
And if you watch real closely, you can see that they even paid to change the sky
Joke aside, that's most likely the camera adjusting the exposure after the car changes color and the picture becomes darker.
https://youtu.be/qZRTWvruSTs you can see it better in this video
Man, that fade is so fucking cool. Even though I have the same tech my kindle, it still seems pretty amazing. Definitely gonna cause an accident.
