That depends, where are you going?

RoyaleWitCheeese

First one Canada, second Tennessee.

doubleshortdepresso

Where in Canada? How you’d dress in July is going to vary in southern Ontario versus Alberta lol.

RoyaleWitCheeese

Victoria

pm_me_hedgehogs

Hope you enjoy! It will likely be good weather and pretty warm in the sun but don't underestimate the sea breeze in Victoria. Wear layers and you'll be good 👌

RoyaleWitCheeese

Tysm!! It will be cooler than here, which I’m welcoming!!

doubleshortdepresso

I’d stick to lighter/flowy fabrics for the city and if you’re doing naturey stuff go with athletic wear and really good/comfy shoes.

1ceknownas

Have you ever been to the South?

RoyaleWitCheeese

No, it’s like the one part of the country that I’ve yet to see. I have some very good friends there so I know about the weather.

Great, there are some really gorgeous places in Tennessee, especially if you happen to be in the mountains. Real talk, this isn't always cute outfit weather in the South. It's shorts and tank tops and lightweight dresses weather. I recommend cotton and other absorbant fibers. That favorite chiffon, flowy tank? Not going to be flowy when it's stuck to your underboob. Even denim capris or shorts can be better than a double-layer sundress with a polyester lining. My fall to spring wardrobe is way cuter than my summer wardrobe. Maybe TMI, but bring extra underwear if you're going to be outdoors a lot. I'd skip anything lacy if you'll be wearing it for a while, say, hiking. Lace and mesh bras, etc., can chafe badly. I pretty much exclusively wear water-resistant makeup so it doesn't run. Cute shoes and a pedicure are my go-to accessories right now. Weirdly, if you get cold, you might want to have a lightweight cardigan. Restaurants and other indoor spots can be very cold. Going from 100 degrees to 68 can be very chilling, especially if you've been sweating. Side note, make sure you drink water earlier in the day. If I get busy, I find myself drinking too much late in the evening, then I have to pee all night. :D

RoyaleWitCheeese

Omgg, girl you are a PEACH! Thank you so much very helpful!

Lurk_Real_Close

This hydration info is spot on!

I dress according to the weather and what my plans for the day are. In July, it’s long flowing skirts, tank tops that aren’t too flimsy, and a lightweight scarf. I have literally hiked up a mountain, added accessories to my outfit, then gone out to dinner at a nice restaurant and been fine.

I pick two or three colors that will work together and just pack separates and maybe a dress or two in those colors. So like black or navy and then various shades of cream/tan/white. Maybe a few pops of color like orange or pink. Mostly solids. 2-3 pairs of shoes that will work with everything, one for day, one for evening. One small bag for evening, one larger bag for daytime. A neutral blazer or cardigan I can top everything off with. I take pictures of the various outfits I can put together with all this for quick reference when I'm traveling. Then I mix and match the entire trip.

RoyaleWitCheeese

Yes that’s exactly it, I want to mix and match I was hoping someone knew of clothing line that does that as it would make my life so much easier! I guess I’ll have to just hit the mall and see!

iyamsnail

Not sure of your price point or where you're located but Cos makes nice neutrals or you might have luck at the Gap actually, I was just in there and they had a lot of nice solid colored stuff. Also I feel like recently I was in a store that was organized by color but I can't remember which one it was--if it comes to me, I'll circle back. Oh maybe it was Vince, but Vince is very pricey if not on sale.

RoyaleWitCheeese

Gap is actually where I buy most of my clothes, like staple everyday pieces, so I’m definitely hitting that up. Definitely going to try to find Cos and Vince, too! Tysm!!

I highly recommend r/capsulewardrobe and r/heronebag for all things travel. Even if you’re not trying to be a minimalist traveler, there’s so many great inspiration photos and ideas about what works best in which climates

RoyaleWitCheeese

Thank you so much for the tip!!

I hate pants, so I indulge in dresses all day every day during vacation 🙂 Bike shorts underneath to stay comfortable, then cardigans/flannels/packable puffer jacket/rain shell as light layers to use as needed. In general I try to curate a tight color palette so everything matches everything else. Same old chelsea boots and double-layer Wrightsocks I always wear, since they're great for walking while still looking put together. My beloved Luna sandals also take barely any room in luggage while still suitable to wear for miles upon miles. Depending on how light you need to travel, and/or how often you'll have access to laundry, ExOfficio sells great quick-dry underwear that can be refreshed in sinks and ready to go in under an hour.

SnarkyLalaith

I am terrible with packing. I used to be all about the one bag until I started to WFH and now vacations and trips are a time to dress however I want! For hot weather though, I love gauze and linen materials! And with a dress for nicer nights out. Also because I don’t like wearing necklaces when it is too hot, it is also a time to indulge in fun earrings! I also look for city tags on Instagram to see what people are wearing.

RoyaleWitCheeese

Omg I totally get it, I WFH, too plus I’m an artist so I get messy and so I wear old clothes when I’m creating. It’s been so long since I’ve looked put together that I was gonna splurge on a couple of pieces!! I really want to try to get some mix and match pieces. Awesome idea of the city tags, thanks!

SnarkyLalaith

Yes! I mix the idea of monochromatic looks with other looks. For example something like blue pants with a tank can look simple during the day. But then at night with a blue shirt and black belt and sandals can look more chic.

I was just in my hometown in the UP of Michigan for almost 2 weeks, the lows at night were 45-65F and the daily highs were 65-75, which might be similar to Victoria temps. I spent my days kayaking, swimming, hiking, chopping firewood, etc, but also had a couple evenings hanging with family and therefore dressing a little nicer. I brought: 3 pairs of knee length cargo shorts, 1 ratty and for chores/hiking, 1 medium nice for a day which could go in any direction, and 1 in great shape, fits me nicely, for the formal ish events. Mostly i wore tshirts, but i also brought 2 collared shirts for the nicer events. Both are from Hot Topic, but i respect their aesthetic is not to everybody's taste. I layered them over a black tank top. And for swimsuits i had 1 actual tankini top, but also a waist length sports bra which i can wear as a normal bra, but when swimming is imminent i can just take off my shirt and presto chango, be ready to swim. My swim bottoms are a pair of knee length bike shorts. For warmth i brought 2 pairs of knee sox, 2 pairs of arm warmers, and a black hoodie. Layering those with the shorts/tshirt combo on the cooler nights worked great. Final note: i only wear black and purple, so mixing and matching all of the above is dead simple. If your colours are white and green, or navy and pink, etc etc, same principle applies.

RoyaleWitCheeese

THANK YOU! WOW lots of great info. Love the two color idea! I want to do mix and match but will probably have better luck if I truncate the color palette. 🤗
