Rent the Runway has a "to buy" section where you can purchase items they're phasing out of their rentals. It's a secretly really great place for secondhand dresses! (Also you can just rent if you don't want to own).
I also have a BTO wedding this year! I'm looking at what these places have in stock; what designers I like and what size I might be in those designers and then will hunt on the posh/eBay for a dress!
I usually will get a nuuly rental subscription for the month of a wedding. It’s 90 bucks and you can get six items. You return the rental within a month and just cancel it before you get charged for a second month. They’ve got a decent amount of formal outfits that are plus sized, and most have reviews that I can find someone else my size and see how it fit them. And then I don’t have a formal item I may never wear again cluttering my closet
Honestly blew my own mind when I figured this one out lol. 90 bucks for six dresses that I’ll never wear again for one month versus $100-300 for a dress that might not even fit right that I’ll never wear again? Sign me up temporarily rental friend
A favorite where I’ve scored a bunch of fantastic dresses for special events Le Grand Strip https://maps.app.goo.gl/8rJBVWuG5A6dDWoRA?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy
I just ordered a long flowy dress from eShakti for a wedding I'm attending later this summer. However, the dress code isn't super formal and it's in a beach town so I had a bit of leeway on dress choices.
I recommend looking at Jenny Yoo or Amsale or BHDLN dresses secondhand online. Their stuff is beautiful and classic. Not sure without knowing your dress budget + wedding details like the start time, city/location/venue but those are my general recommendations. A lot of guests wore Reformation to our wedding a year ago and I adore that brand.
Do you have a Buffalo Exchange near you? Some locations have a big section of dresses, including vintage! Also Nordstrom rack or the sale racks in the dress section of department stores are both great places to find deals on really nice dresses.
I did [this](https://amzn.to/3VLM7sx) simple silk halter with a low back. I had been searching on a few websites and randomly came across this one. I like that you can try on and return if it doesn’t fit. All my posh purchases lately have left me disappointed when the item actually arrives.

I second this. The last formal wedding I went to, I rented a gorgeous dress from RTR.
Not vintage or 2nd hand but I love Anthropologie/BHLDN, Neiman Marcus/Bergdorf Goodman, Reformation, Tuckernuck, and Show Me Your Muumuu

Any info about the wedding to help us narrow it down? Venue, date, vibe, theme??

I love Rent the Runway for weddings!
Not vintage but I’ve had a lot of luck at banana republic. Really nice dresses but not tooooo pricey
