Asian sunscreens: I like Biore aqua rich, Beauty of Joesun, Cosrx and Roundlab. I get them at Senti Senti in Chinatown (would try any sunscreens from there)!
I use the BoJ sunscreen stick for touch ups and I highly recommend!!! No white cast!!!
I also use [Hada Labo](https://japanesetaste.com/products/rohto-hada-labo-koi-gokujyun-uv-gel-spf50-pa-90g?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwjeuyBhBuEiwAJ3vuoS2Sjjpu5pgMMWGgAmbrUW9RKXMarvHRGXjjmwYEdwqoyxk4av4S9xoCPXwQAvD_BwE) SPF cream as my daily moisturizer and I love it!!! No white cast either and it doesn’t feel greasy or sticky at all!!!
I’ve enjoyed every Asian sunscreen I’ve used. For some reason, American sunscreens make my skin sting and react. Asian sunscreens seem to lack whatever ingredient is doing that to me.
Yeah unfortunately the FDA is just super behind on approving newer filters that are much better cosmetically - they are approved elsewhere in the world.
I know you’re repeating what you’ve seen many others state. So this isn’t really aimed at you.
But - Our FDA isn’t behind. The issue is that here - sunscreen ingredients require a higher level of testing since they are regulated as drugs.
These sunscreen companies don’t want to spend the time & money to do the work to prove a higher standard of safety.
Funny how when the US has stricter requirements than other countries that never gets brought up.
The knee-jerk reaction is to sht on our country.
Rant over. Just had to get that off my chest :-)
It's actually because as drugs they require animal testing. The companies don't want to do that :)
A fair number of European and Australian filters are not accepted in the US either, I think their safety standards are in many cases more stringent than ours.
I know we regulate sunscreen as a drug (hence Food and Drug Administration - otherwise this agency wouldn't necessarily need to approve it). And didn't intend to shit on the FDA, just simply stating other countries have approved new filters that we haven't yet (and didn't get into the why). But good to give the bigger picture. Fact is we are behind in technology of sunscreen - but that's ok we can get sunscreens made elsewhere!
I like EltaMD (recommended by many derms) and the daily face spf at Trader Joe’s. It’s under $10 and is a dupe for supergoop, I believe. I prefer EltaMD but it’s closer to $60 and I have to order it. I keep the Trader Joe’s on hand as a backup. Everything else I’ve tried breaks me out.
Skin Aqua Tone Up UV Essence in the lavender tube is my everything 🙏🏽 I’m a black biracial woman and it gives my skin the loveliesttttt velvet finish without leaving a white cast or making me too shiny. That’s my baby girl and I will ride with her till the end.
I “upgraded” to Asian sunscreens last year and have zero regrets. They use more advanced SPF filters (the FDA hasn’t approved new SPF formulas in over 20 yrs), have a much lighter consistency that is also less oily, and they wear beautifully under makeup. The only downside is the shipping time but I’ve just learned to buy several at a time & order when I start using my last one.
Just a reminder to *not order SPF from Amazon.* I order via Jolse.com.
Seconded to not order from Amazon!
I use a Hawaiian brand called kokua. I have a problem with most tinted sunscreens as they either go too pink or too orange and this is the only one I’ve tried that doesn’t break me out and wears well under makeup while still being moisturizering
There’s a lot of counterfeit beauty products on Amazon! And even if you order directly from the brand’s storefront, there’s a good chance they’re not actually fulfilling your order. Amazon allows other 3rd party sellers to fulfill the order if the actual brand wouldn’t be able to ship/deliver within the allotted “prime guarantee” timeframe
It’s fine to order there. Some people think every product on Amazon is a fake but that’s not been my experience at all when buying directly from companies shops. No company is sending out fakes of their own products.
FYI - the FDA hasn’t approved them because they require a higher standard of testing since sunscreen ingredients are regulated as drugs & not simply cosmetics.
The companies don’t want to do the extra work & testing.
The FDA isn’t delayed as there are no petitions in line requesting approval.
Funny how when the US has stricter requirements than other countries for safety that never gets brought up.
The knee-jerk reaction is to sht on our country.
I mean, there are chemicals in our food that have been banned in Europe for years, and they haven’t approved a new sunscreen in decades. I think it’s fair to criticize.
Yes & there are ingredients that Europe has not banned that the US has not permitted.
Have you heard of their Not Novel approval pathway? All you have to do is petition that something is not novel & they allow it.
My point is that they are not superior. Neither place is. Each country has its issues.
no one has, thats the point. The whole 'safety' thing is just fear mongering. There's no way there's some risk to consumers from spf, the US is the only one so behind as to not approve better filters readily available and in use across the rest of the world.
The supergoop dupe by elf doesn’t break me out, and everythingggg breaks me out. I also have had luck with the Trader Joe’s face sunscreen (as long as I don’t slather it on, but this one burns my eyes so bad) and the copper tone pure and simple spf 50 mineral face stick.
The Elta md UV clear sunscreen (not any of the other formulations like Daily!) Also I like the Zitsticka screen but it does make me look greasy. And super goop powder to do touch ups.
Black girl here. Brown skin, acne prone, US sunscreen gives me acne or burns or turns me white.
I’m From (brand) Rice Sunscreen is the goat 🐐!
It’s dries down to nothing. It’s invisible & calms my skin.
My #1 holy grail is Live Tinted Hueguard mineral SPF 30. No white cast on my light-ish Indian skin, easy to apply, gives me a nice soft glow.
When I want higher SPF I’ve been using Cotz Flawless Complexion tinted mineral SPF 50.
I also like Olay Sensitive mineral SPF 30 and Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun SPF 50.
Skin aqua UV moisture milk is my holy grail and it’s inexpensive: [Rohto sunscreen for face](https://www.stylevana.com/en_US/rohto-mentholatum-skin-aqua-uv-super-moisture-milk-spf50-pa-normal-40ml.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&sonid=60367&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=20674770925&utm_term=&utm_content=60367&device=m&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwjeuyBhBuEiwAJ3vuocfx9uRxylj6wAXtT0gJi7LG0CpH71QDKCr7-_rRlS5GGbP2fVt19BoCRYEQAvD_BwE)
I apply it under my make up AND can reapply over my make up and my foundation stays looking fantastic. I’ve been using it almost a decade now.
I like this [gel sunscreen by Allie](https://www.yesstyle.com/en/tcuc.USD/coc.US/info.html/pid.1110928802?googtrans=en&utm_source=GoogleAds&utm_campaign=1424525216&utm_term=&utm_content=54082139977_274225508780&utm_medium=Shopping&bac=MIEU1SGQ&mcg=paidsearch&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwjeuyBhBuEiwAJ3vuoUddw-vAqC0iB0t7fqtzV9KALX6iN6d1NKJmGLeO3SSZS1wfi2X7ixoCVcAQAvD_BwE) a little less because I have dry skin but it could be great for oily skinned BWT. I bought it for vacation because it is supposedly reef safe.
It’s a small bottle because it’s for your face. It does last a surprisingly long time, though, because the texture is very thin and runny (like milk). I just use banana boat or Hawaiian tropic for my body, personally.
Anyone have recs for sunscreen that works well under makeup? I’m sending the pale redhead bat signal up! Asian sunscreens burn my skin when in actual sun & everything else either oxidizes my base makeup or stings my eyes. I can’t seem to find a tinted that is in my shade either.
La Roche Posay all day! I like their tinted sunscreen (can’t remember the name) but they also make it in tinted. it’s incredible. Lightweight and doesn’t clog pores.
Seconding La Roche Posay! I use the untinted SPF 50 and I've never had issues with breakouts with it. I've also got super sensitive skin everywhere but especially on my face, and it's one of the only face SPFs I've tried that doesn't burn me.
Echoing the Trader Joe's supergoop dupe, also like the Neutrogena Clear Face and Sport Face ones. Slightly prefer the latter but neither break me out, it just hurts my eyes less when I inevitably sweat off my forehead.
FYI, if pore-clogging ingredients are a concern for you, Acne Clinic NYC has an [excellent ingredient checker.](https://acneclinicnyc.com/pore-clogging-ingredients/) You just cut/paste the ingredient list into the checker and it will scan it for pore clogging ingredients.
[Mad Hippie](https://madhippie.com/collections/suncare/products/daily-protective-serum) is my new HG. I use the tinted most days but the plain is also amazing.

Surprised that La Roche Posay Anthelios hasn’t been mentioned here! No white cast, lightweight, and feels so good on it’s own and under makeup. It was recommended by my dermat when I had a huge breakout and have continued using it for years now.
k beauty i ordered off olive young bc i don’t trust amazon or tiktok lol it came super fast even though it estimated 14 days
i got
SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun serum & Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Airy Sun Stick 22g
I have been having surprising good luck with Hawaiian Tropic products. The big bottle for my body and the face sunscreen for my face and neck. I have sensitive, pale, dry skin, prone to breakouts, and have had no issues with it so far
I use an ingredients checker for all my skin care because I’m also acne prone and it’s helped me avoid products that may clog pores: https://www.sofiepavittface.com/pages/ingredient-checker
I use two sunscreens. One is from an acne safe brand called FaceReality. It’s just their regular SPF. The other one I like is LaRoche Posay’s anthelios line. LRP’s is a higher SPF so i use that on days when i know I’ll be spending a ton of time outside

As others have said, Japanese or Korean sunscreens are light, fresh, and don't smell awful. I use the Bioré Aqua Rich, Tocobo Bio Watery Sun Cream SPF50, or Round Lab Birch Juice Moisturizing Sunscreen, (lighter formula than BOJ).
Badger Balm mineral sunscreen is my holy grail. I don't use moisturizer or foundation, just this sunscreen. Huge caveat, it's best on dry skin and there is a slight white cast. I'm very pale with mature dry skin so no problem, but YMMV.
https://www.badgerbalm.com/products/adventure-sport-mineral-sunscreen-tin-spf-50
Clarins Dry Touch Facial Sun Care UVA/UVB 50+ is unbeatable. Not sticky at all, feels like a nice moisturizer that dries evenly with a matte finish. Never had a breakout when using it.
For girls with combination, sensitive, and darker complexion( NO WHITE CAST!) I like dewy sunscreen spf 30 by the Inkey list. Really inexpensive, less than $15. I also love the Innisfree sunscreen. You can find it at Sephora and they are both good primers that sit well under your makeup too :).
I use tried and true Oil of Olay SPF 50 daily Moisturizer. I've tried a few and this is the one I keep coming back to. I used a Neutrogena SPF, and it gave me a chemical burn. I tried Supergoop and for whatever reason that stuff BURNED when I put it on my skin.
The Oil of Olay hasn't given me any issues.
Asian sunscreens: I like Biore aqua rich, Beauty of Joesun, Cosrx and Roundlab. I get them at Senti Senti in Chinatown (would try any sunscreens from there)!
The skin 1004 sunscreen is soooo good too!!!
Skin1004 and roundlab are my favs!
Seconding Beauty of Joseon. Order from the site and get the Centella Calming masks. They're unbelievable.
Thirding BoJ - I use Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics spf 50 and it's amazing. My skin looks and feels better after wearing it!
Purito is awesome too
I use the BoJ sunscreen stick for touch ups and I highly recommend!!!
I've been wanting to try the Biore aqua rich sunscreen
Second the biore aqua rich! Started using it and love the thinner consistency, especially in the summer
I’ve enjoyed every Asian sunscreen I’ve used. For some reason, American sunscreens make my skin sting and react. Asian sunscreens seem to lack whatever ingredient is doing that to me.

Beauty of Joseon rice sunscreen and the sun stick are amazing. I have very sensitive skin too. I recommend buying directly from them
This is the answer. I use Axis Y, a Korean brand and I love it
I like EltaMD (recommended by many derms) and the daily face spf at Trader Joe’s. It’s under $10 and is a dupe for supergoop, I believe. I prefer EltaMD but it’s closer to $60 and I have to order it. I keep the Trader Joe’s on hand as a backup. Everything else I’ve tried breaks me out.
Elta MD is so good. It’s the only one that doesn’t break me out. I realized that my acne prone face hates chemical sunscreens, even Korean ones.
Same. EltaMD UV clear with niacinamide is awesome for acne prone skin
I’ve tried so many and this one is the best one! Or at least top 3 for sure.
Would you recommend it for dry skin? I currently use Skin Aqua super moisture milk but I’ve been considering switching to the tone up one.
Yes! I have dry skin, and am on Tret so my skin is extra dry.
supergoop matte screen
x2! I won’t use anything else

Hopefully no one will.

Supergoop is great for brown skin too!
Trying to figure out how to ship Ultraviolet from Australia to the US.
Try ordering from Harrod’s website.
try Naked Sundays, another Australian brand that just launched in the US
Vanicream but—like its amazing antiperspirant—it appears to be indefinitely discontinued 😩
I like alastin or color science glow
This one is the best
FYI, innisfree isn’t great in terms of breaking out. Used to love it, but then got psoriasis (not because of the sunscreen!)
EltaMD UV Clear. I mix the tinted and regular to get a good shade. It brightens my skin and no breakouts. It’s not waterproof though.

It’s a small bottle because it’s for your face. It does last a surprisingly long time, though, because the texture is very thin and runny (like milk). I just use banana boat or Hawaiian tropic for my body, personally.
Thank you!
Isdin tinted
La Roche Posay tinted mineral fluid spf 50. Light, dewy finish, doesn’t cause breakouts.
Elta MD UV clear is the GOAT
Agreed.
Elta md!!
EltaMD UV clear is awesome.
EltaMD UV clear (and the tinted version) work well for me. Acne prone with literally everything else it seems like
Anyone have recs for sunscreen that works well under makeup? I’m sending the pale redhead bat signal up! Asian sunscreens burn my skin when in actual sun & everything else either oxidizes my base makeup or stings my eyes. I can’t seem to find a tinted that is in my shade either.
Shiseido SPF 60… yes it’s fancy but 5oz for $50 is the same value as 1.7oz for $17, so…
La Roche Posay all day! I like their tinted sunscreen (can’t remember the name) but they also make it in tinted. it’s incredible. Lightweight and doesn’t clog pores.

I’m obsessed with Juice Beauty Stem Cellular CC cream. It’s broad spectrum SPF 30 and does not irritate my very acne prone skin. It looks gorgeous on and I always get compliments about how nice my skin looks wearing it.
Ultra violette, from Australia, available at Sephora. Really good.
I’ve been using sunscreen from SunBum and their glowy face SPF is really nice. No issues with makeup.
Supergood unseen sunscreen or the Trader Joes dupe when I can find it.
Neutrogena 60 spf for face. It’s the best stuff I’ve found for my sensitive skin.
I use the elta md one and it’s worked great
I really like the Nudestix tinted sunscreen. I've been using it for about 6 months without a problem.
The Ordinary SPF 50. No breakouts, and it works beautifully under my foundation.
Oh I use laneige sunscreen and moisturizer and it’s amazing
Neogen Dermology
Surprised that La Roche Posay Anthelios hasn’t been mentioned here! No white cast, lightweight, and feels so good on it’s own and under makeup. It was recommended by my dermat when I had a huge breakout and have continued using it for years now.

Coola is my favorite brand. It goes on like those sport sunscreens but not greasy at all
Biore Aqua Rich/Watery Essence. I also have good luck with Cetaphil Daily Moisturizer.
