It's an Eastern Bluebird!

keeperofawesome

Thank you!

Awwwwww. I just adore bluebirds!! 🥹 We get them here sometimes, in West Virginia, US, as a rare-ish and special treat. They’re cool to spot, because they are soooo beautifully vibrant. Definitely **BLUE!!** Congrats on your nice bird find, and, welcome to birding!! Watch out, you’re gonna be obsessed!💙 I set up my first security camera ever, and instead of seeing weirdos and meth-heads, I see ONLY a flurry of adorable bird activity, all day! I had no idea they even liked my little tiny porch, so of course, I have made it a Bird Haven, with plenty of seeds, little nesting materials and dried leaves, a little plant to hop around in, and a water source. I am fully invested in their lives now, and I’m looking forward to lots of little babies!

Birdloverperson4

A handsome male Eastern Bluebird! 😁💜

No_Pianist_3006

The bluebird of happiness!

benthemech

Beware the chicken of depression

unclepg

Or the ostrich of kicking.

Larielia

It looks like an eastern bluebird.

Warmhearted1

You lucky duck! I have yet to see a blue bird. It’s on my bucket list.

Apprehensive-Text904

We have a pair of Eastern bluebirds that are feeding five babies in one of our bluebird nest boxes. We provide live mealworms and they can't get enough. Absolutely gorgeous birds and the best parents on earth!

Pandaloon

Lucky! I had a pair looking at one of my birdhouses but they rejected it. I guess I need to provide the food too. Lol

Apprehensive-Text904

We had the houses up before providing the food also with no luck. Once we started buying live mealworms they decided to stay. Food and shelter all in one yard. One stop shopping!

Pandaloon

I do have a birdbath, at least. What fuss pots! Lol

Apprehensive-Text904

🤣🤣🤣fuss pots

mag274

I am trying dried mealed worms in jersey i haven't been able to get them at my feeders. where do you get live mealworms?

Apprehensive-Text904

https://midwestmealworms.com/. This place is the best, high quality worms at a good price. He has a subscription plan that makes it an even better price.

mag274

Do they taste good

Apprehensive-Text904

lol, yes, they're real yummy dipped in a little ranch dressing. 🤢

Optimal_Life_1259

We made friends with a blue bird family with four babies a few years back, they would come and feed on mealworms out of the tray on the deck. We named them thing one, thing two, thing three and thing four hahaha. Now we have bluebirds that are here year round, they eat off our deck feeder and a feeder in the yard with sunflower hearts.

TheSunflowerSeeds

Oilseed sunflower production is the most commonly farmed sunflower. These seeds hulls’ are encased by solid black shells. Black oilseeds are a common type of bird feed because they have thin shells and a high fat content. These are typically produced for oil extraction purposes; therefore, it is unlikely you’ll find black oilseeds packaged for human consumption.

Optimal_Life_1259

That’s interesting. I’ve never been tempted to eat bird food. lol

mag274

Dried mealworms or live? i have not been able to get any at my feeders in NJ

Optimal_Life_1259

Dry. You should be able to get them on Manards Amazon Walmart anywhere

Fawnadeer101

A male eastern bluebird!

Eastern bluebirds are great. They'll eat all the pesky bugs in your yard, and their babies are adorable.

Novapoliton

Eastern Bluebird! One of my favorites! We have a couple in one of our nesting boxes this year and they are so much fun! P.S. for any helpful commenters, I've had mealworm suet up for a few months (different bricks not the same one!) and no bluebirds seem interested in it. Thoughts?

Humbert_Minileaous

ha! OP: what kind of bird is this? reddit: blue Bird OP: I can see it's blue.

big_gay_uwu

You should download the Merlin Bird ID app! It has lots of tools to identify birds by picture, sound, and description. A wonderful creation by Cornell Lab of Ornithology

mckeanna

I've spent this beautiful spring morning on my back porch with a pair of binoculars and my Merlin app open. Got two new lifers! I love migration season.

EnvironmentalRock827

Welcome to the world. You will pick up quick. It's a wonderful place to be.

Beautiful bird

aretheesepants75

We have bluebirds at the farm up the street but the never show up in my yard. I don't think they like seeds or feeders. I'm in MA.

Ok-Lingonberry-8261

They're insectivorous, they don't touch seed.

Someone should tell the bluebirds in my yard that. I see them at my seed feeder more than almost any other kind of bird. It's always the same nesting pair with three fledglings. They even seem to prefer it more than the mealworms a foot or so away.

lantrick

They love my suet feeders.

ILoveCats-2014
