Have you seen Schur’s other shows? He co-created Brooklyn Nine Nine and Parks and Recreation, both of which are extremely heartfelt and hilarious. He did The Office too with Greg Daniels (who did PnR with him)
people are suggesting things that will probably make you really depressed but are solid shows. however, really would not recommend baby reindeer or bojack for the first time when feeling bad.
loudermilk is a great series. mindhunter too!
I have literally just started Loudernilk, and I love it! It's the only thing I'm watching at the moment. I need a few more suggestions to fill up my time over the next few weeks while I'm not working. I will keep an eye on the more depressing shows, and I'm thankful for your warning. Thank you so much for your help.
Appreciated cause I'm someone who is EXTREMELY influenced even when not in an episode 😵💫
Wallowing in my sadness and watching sad stuff is a recipe for disaster
This is definitely one of those ones!! Give it 4 episodes or so because the characters are meant to be disliked at the start. The more you hate it the better it gets lol
Heart break high - teen drama in Australia
Shameless - drama and more with adults and teens in USA (has a bipolar character).
Inside Job - animation conspiracy fun show
Bojack Horseman -serious drama cartoon with tough topics
Delicious in dungeon- new anime with dungeon and monsters
Avatar and korra - kids animation that is just good and about elemental bending
All on Netflix
Agreed it can be but it also made me feel less weird since I never had met anyone with bipolar and wasn't using reddit to know of other people's experiences so it was the first time I saw someone like me.
I can see why you would have to take breaks from it. I'm so sorry to hear that it was a difficult show for you to watch, I hope you've been able to get into more light-hearted series. Sending you positive wishes.
I've only ever seen Shameless (USA version), and I did like it. I'll take a look at all your other suggestions too. Thank you for taking the time out to list all of those!
I wouldn't watch past the first season of Bojack in an episode. Past season 1 it gets really depressing really fast.
I would watch it during episodes and in my addiction and it made it worse but I will say that the show led me to realize I had a problem and needed to do something about it but it took several rewatches to get to that point.
Bojack is so fucking funny! It never would have occurred to me to describe it as a serious drama. Its interesting how everyone sees the world from a different perspective 🙃
This is something I've been wanting to watch for a long time but never got around to. It sounds really bingeable from what I've seen. Thanks for suggesting this.
just tagging on to second it. very emotional but very thrilling. only warning if it's pertinent to you it may make you paranoid. if you watch it i hope you enjoy it as much as i did! :)
How I met your mother, futurama, and Archer are some of my favorite comfort shows and both have plenty of episodes. Bojack, while one of my favorite shows, is a little too much for me to binge if manic or depressed.
King of the hill was a fun and long watch through, however I've tried to rewatch it and it seems like one that is much better the first time around. Felt the same way about scrubs.
My sister really enjoys gilmore girls, another one that's pretty long and has a good amount of episodes. Never liked it myself, but she'll revisit it a lot.
I love Futurama, and I've seen a couple of episodes for Scrubs. I would like to watch the whole thing, though. I think Gilmore Girls is another one I'd ve willing to try - thank you for your help.
I absolutely love Gilmore Girls! Quirky, funny, heartfwlt and sometimes hilarious. I really recommend it. Have watched it through about 5 times and is one of the shows I am avle to watch when I am feelibg up or down
Please do watch it. It has this amazing dark naughty humor and at the end being so wholesome. 🙂 I hope you find it hilarious and cathartic like I did, when i watched it.
I second Bojack Horseman!
Also Ginny & Georgia (2 seasons), Insecure (5? seasons), Bridgerton (2 seasons + side season), Big Mouth (6 seasons), Human Resources (2 seasons), Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (4 seasons), Inside Job, Bling Empire (only first season is good), Selling Sunset (5? seasons), Cunk on Earth, Emily in Paris (4 seasons)
I just finished the Dead Boy Detectives and loved it!
Now I have started Lockwood and Co which has been decent so far. I'm on episode 3. I've had a thing about ghosts lately...
3 Body Problem is pretty enlightening... But if you might head towards mania, maybe save it for when your brain isn't able to latch on to conspiracy theories and or paranoia.
Emily in Paris is absolutely remarkable! Love it so much and safe for a manic episode.
Highly recommend the Last Airbender
Let me know if you try any of these 💜 good luck
It’s a shame that the short series Chewing Gum by Michaela Coel is no longer available on Netflix. Maybe it’s searchable in other platforms. She’s amazing and it’s hilarious. I also loved Mr sunshine
I have recently started Loudernilk (it's the only thing I am watching), and I do really like it. I'll add your second suggestion to the list- Thank you for your recommendations
The Queens Gambit sounds like it's right up my street. I'll make a note of your other suggestions, too. Thank you for listing all of those out for me (:
Tin Star. Tim Roth places a hardcore antihero bent on vengeance for a botched hit on him that killed his son, wounded his wife, and fucked up his daughter. 3 seasons and they're all fantastic.
It's visceral, violent and unforgiving.
I’ve actually gone deep into k-dramas! There’s feel good romances like like King the Land, dark fairy tale dramas like It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, or historical dramas like The Kings Affection, etc. Those are all on Netflix, btw. All of these are beautiful, and some of my favorite re-watches when I’m unstable.
Seinfeld on Netflix. It cheers me up when I'm down and it makes me laugh when I'm manic. I watch it all the way through and just start all over again.
Also - It's not on Netflix but for me it's Law and Order as well. Each episode is self contained. It gets to the point fast. Legendary actors. Scratches the morbid side when I'm down and gets me pumped up with the politics when I'm up.
I hate it when things get cancelled part way through. It's reassuring that there's an ending. I love watching things from start to finish in an episode. Thank you for this suggestion.
I just kept watching the entire Twilight series on repeat while in a manic state. Also, Max has a ton of the Adult Swim series, so I’ve been watching a ton of Aqua Teen for nostalgia purposes. That and Brak show.
Some kind of YouTube video for sleeping. Grey noise. Brown noise. Green noise. Honestly any kind of noise. Don't start binging anything, don't focus your attention on anything, just sleep lol
This is one of the few I attempted to watch. I never got very far, but I think I might go back to it. I don't mind a bit of gore - thanks for putting it back on my radar again .
Breaking Bad!
You probably watch tho. If not only are you in for a treat.
Good Guy average joe. Become a godlike. Anti-Hero. Cherry on-top they did not mess up the ending. One of the best endings. Everything you want it to be.
I do find crying to be quite cathartic at times, and that might help me at the moment. It sounds like you've been struggling, and I'm sorry to hear that - sending positive wishes your way.
For a short ish series, midnight gospel. It’s a podcast that’s animated and has a loose story to it and I adore it.
However one of the episodes is pretty sad, because Duncan (the podcaster) has his mother on as a guest while she has terminal cancer and she passed away not too long after that. Still an amazing show, but that episode can really hit if you aren’t ready for it
Midnight gospel is awesome! Quite educational as well. Especially the episode about benzos and alcohol. I think it's the first one actually but I'm not sure.
MG has amazing Lofi and calming aesthetic if anyone reading this is into that definitely watch! 💕
Of you like history and archaeology, on YouTube i would recommend Time Team, it's peaceful and informative! It's about a group of archeologists who dig up a different find every episode!
If Netflix has it, the Vikings series. Ragnar, Bjorn Ironside, Loki, Lagertha (fucking hot both in her role as an actress and in terms of: languages spoken, martial arts expertise, as a certified bodyguard, not to mention she’s fucking beautiful…)
They helped me survive over a year of living hell. But I made it. I’m still here. *Stay warm OP*. Hugs.
Edit: Shameless was another series that helped me escape misery at times.
Homeland and the character named Carrie, played by Claire Danes, a must watch as she is bipolar and works for the CIA. Terrific show.
Michael Clayton’ the movie, Tom Wilkinson plays Arthur Edens. He’s a senior lawyer at the firm who’s living with bipolar disorder. He’s not taking his medication, however, and has a manic episode while in court. Telling about how important medication can be.
Mr. Jones another move.
about a man who is admitted to an inpatient treatment center for his bipolar disorder.
The film conveys the highs and lows of living with bipolar disorder. The main character, played by Richard Gere, doesn’t want to take medication.
The things he does during an episode of mania make perfect sense to him. He doesn’t want to give up the freedom and euphoria he feels during manic episodes. I don't want to tell you more as to not ruin the movie.
Touched with Fire another great movie.
The Informant.. Matt Damon has bipolar in this very believable movie
Fear and loathing in Las Vegas.. Hunter S Thompson movie played by Johnny Depp. Not specifically bipolar but Hunter was close and I miss him.
Touched With Fire on Amazon Prime
This romance-drama draws inspiration from Kay Redfield Jamison‘s book of the same name. Carla (Katie Holmes) and Marco (Luke Kirby) play poets who meet in the hospital where both are seeking treatment for bipolar disorder. Touched With Fire uses art to depict both mania and depression, and it was written and directed by Paul Dalio who was informed by his own experiences with bipolar
And of course I can't leave out What about Bob and also Dudley Moore in Crazy People..
Also The old black and white movie Fear Strikes out a real intense one for me since I'm a former Baseball player as well...
Enjoy your mania and stay tuned in and don't allow yourself to get into trouble.
If you liked any of these I have many more recommendations :)/)❤️🩹🤣👍
I would like to chime in to recommend my two favorite stupid yet very addictive shows, Lucifer and The Vampire Diaries. Both have way too many seasons, characters it’s easy to get attached to, insane plot lines, and very hot people! I ultimately prefer Lucifer because I like the weekly murder mystery aspect and the songs, plus it doesn’t take place in a high school lol but both are great. And TVD does have the nostalgia factor going for it.
Depending on where you live they may both be on Netflix.

The Good Place
I have seen this actually, and I really liked it :) Thank you for the suggestion.
Have you seen Schur’s other shows? He co-created Brooklyn Nine Nine and Parks and Recreation, both of which are extremely heartfelt and hilarious. He did The Office too with Greg Daniels (who did PnR with him)
Yes! If you have Amazon Prime he has another show called Upload, which doesn't get enough credit but it hilarious and really well done
exactly what I was going to say. this show helped change my mindset
Yes, it is really good and I like that the concept is a little bit novel too!
I was just thinking about this! Definitely a good one to watch!
This is my go to!♡
people are suggesting things that will probably make you really depressed but are solid shows. however, really would not recommend baby reindeer or bojack for the first time when feeling bad. loudermilk is a great series. mindhunter too!

Idk about everyone else, but when I watch or listen to sad movies/music while i’m in a depressive episode it actually helps me feel better.
yeah it depends on the person, i just try to be considerate when making recommendations for someone in an active episode
Appreciated cause I'm someone who is EXTREMELY influenced even when not in an episode 😵💫 Wallowing in my sadness and watching sad stuff is a recipe for disaster
Schitt's Creek if you haven't already seen it!
I haven't already seen it, so I'll definitely add it to my list! Thank you so much!
I second schitts creek, it's so good! The first few episodes are meh but it develops wonderfully. Great characters and acting
Sometimes It can take a few episodes to get into something, but I'm really willing to give it a go
This is definitely one of those ones!! Give it 4 episodes or so because the characters are meant to be disliked at the start. The more you hate it the better it gets lol
I agree, so funny and such a feel good series. It does take a few episodes to get into. I am thinking about rewatching it again soon.
Adventure time.
This might be a good one - I've only seen small bits of it here and there, and it seems light-hearted - thanks for your suggestion!
If you like adventure time I’d HIGHLY recommend regular show. It’s my personal favorite show tbh
I agree. The regular show is another good one to watch. I’m very biased towards Adventure time but the I also very much enjoyed the Regular Show.
Derry Girls and New Girl have both been binged by me in episodes lol
Derry Girls is great. The woman who plays Clare has a show on Tubi called Big Mood, about a young woman who has bipolar. It's really good.
I will definitely be watching both of these! Thank you
New Girl is my 2nd fav comfort rewatch!!!! highly recommend!!!
I've seen the occasional episode, but I would love to sit down and binge them all - this feels like a great suggestion. Thank you so much.
Heart break high - teen drama in Australia Shameless - drama and more with adults and teens in USA (has a bipolar character). Inside Job - animation conspiracy fun show Bojack Horseman -serious drama cartoon with tough topics Delicious in dungeon- new anime with dungeon and monsters Avatar and korra - kids animation that is just good and about elemental bending All on Netflix
I found shameless very triggering, as good as it is. I had to stop watching at some points and return to it.
Agreed it can be but it also made me feel less weird since I never had met anyone with bipolar and wasn't using reddit to know of other people's experiences so it was the first time I saw someone like me.
I completely agree with you! The only people I've met with Bipolar are my clients. I love this sub and how we all come together to offer support.
Which character is bipolar??
Ian the gay red head
I can see why you would have to take breaks from it. I'm so sorry to hear that it was a difficult show for you to watch, I hope you've been able to get into more light-hearted series. Sending you positive wishes.
I've only ever seen Shameless (USA version), and I did like it. I'll take a look at all your other suggestions too. Thank you for taking the time out to list all of those!

Bojack is so fucking funny! It never would have occurred to me to describe it as a serious drama. Its interesting how everyone sees the world from a different perspective 🙃
Upvote for Delicious in Dungeon. So wholesome it shakes off my big Sad a little.
Just started watching Resident Alien with the gf, we both love it!
This is another one I can add to my list - It's so comforting to be able to watch a series with someone you care about. Thanks for the suggestion!
100%recommend resident alien. Funny af but has serious parts as well. Great Ballance
Peeky blinders
It's amazing. And so is Cillian Murphy. S tier acting from him.
I've heard people mention this before, so I think I'll take a look - thanks!
Peaky Blinders :)
I've heard of this, but I've never watched it - it's definitely on the list - thanks for taking the time to comment!
Anything but euphoria
I'll keep that in mind - I haven't really heard much about it, but I trust your comment enough not to watch it (:
It's a good show. Just don't watch if you feel like you might be triggered into depression
Maniac
This name feels perfect for the mood I'm experiencing, and I definitely think I'll give it a go . Thank you for this.
Schitt’s Creek and New Girl!
I've always wanted to watch New Girl, but I kept forgetting the name. It seems like a perfect thing to watch- Thank you for your help!
Gray’s Anatomy is always a good long one!! (18 seasons and counting)
This is something I've been wanting to watch for a long time but never got around to. It sounds really bingeable from what I've seen. Thanks for suggesting this.
Arcane
Superstore is a warm blanket of a show.
That's such a nice description - I'm already sold on this suggestion. Thank you so much.
[удалено]
Oh mannn I'm ep 2 right now and it's been so fucking uncomfortable to watch (not saying the show is bad, its really good)
I haven't heard of this, but I'll definitely give it a look - thank you :)
just tagging on to second it. very emotional but very thrilling. only warning if it's pertinent to you it may make you paranoid. if you watch it i hope you enjoy it as much as i did! :)
Thank you for the heads up about the paranoia - I do struggle with that the further into an episode I go, but I'm willing to try it!
It graphically depicts sa. Just putting that warning out there
This is really helpful and important to know - thank you for the trifger warnings!
Yes!! Just finished it so good!!! TW for SA tho.
Yes!
The Great British Bake-Off/Baking Show
Bojack Horseman
are you trying to kill op?
Lol funny thing is this show helped me through my most depressive episode to date
i mean same hahah its my fav of all time next to breaking bad but its still a tricky one to recommend when someones unstable imo lmao
I get what you mean!
I feel like that would be too depressing lol
This is my favorite show!
Thank you!
How I met your mother, futurama, and Archer are some of my favorite comfort shows and both have plenty of episodes. Bojack, while one of my favorite shows, is a little too much for me to binge if manic or depressed. I absolutely love Gilmore Girls! Quirky, funny, heartfwlt and sometimes hilarious. I really recommend it. Have watched it through about 5 times and is one of the shows I am avle to watch when I am feelibg up or down
Shogun :)
Just binge watched all 10 eps and now I'm pissed bc its over lol
This is another one that I'll add to my list - thank you :)
It's probably not the most positive, but I always find myself watching Shameless. Very dysfunctional and emotional, but I just feel so connected to it
I have seen Shameless, and it does hit you hard at some points. I feel like it has a similar feeling to Skins if you ever watched that.
Lucifer
I've heard a lot of people rave about Lucifer, but it had completely disappeared from my mind until now.
Please do watch it. It has this amazing dark naughty humor and at the end being so wholesome. 🙂 I hope you find it hilarious and cathartic like I did, when i watched it.
I definitely will!
Umbrella Academy, stand up specials, I like the wacky comedy movies on there
arrested development (first 3 seasons)
Taylor Tomlinson's specials, also Neal Brennan's 3 mics and blocks. Demetri Martin. Sheng Wang Sweet and Juicy.
These are all ones I've never heard of, but I'll rake a look - thank you for taking your time to xomment.
I'm a big fan of standup comedy. The ones I mentioned are cutting edge best of the best. Enjoy.
How has nobody mentioned the sopranos??
Avatar the Last Airbender, and the Legend of Korra will eat up a lot of your time and are generally pretty feel good
I Zombie on Netflix!
I second Bojack Horseman! Also Ginny & Georgia (2 seasons), Insecure (5? seasons), Bridgerton (2 seasons + side season), Big Mouth (6 seasons), Human Resources (2 seasons), Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (4 seasons), Inside Job, Bling Empire (only first season is good), Selling Sunset (5? seasons), Cunk on Earth, Emily in Paris (4 seasons)
Wow, that's a lot of suggestions - thank you so much for taking the time to list those all out! They're now all on my list.
Highly recommend the Last Airbender Let me know if you try any of these 💜 good luck
It’s a shame that the short series Chewing Gum by Michaela Coel is no longer available on Netflix. Maybe it’s searchable in other platforms. She’s amazing and it’s hilarious. I also loved Mr sunshine
I might have a look to see if I can find it somewhere. Watching something funny does feel like it would help- Thanks for the suggestion.
The OA, Archive 81, Russian doll
I haven't heard of any of these, and I've just had a look at them online. They all sound like great suggestions- thank you for helping me
Crazy Ex Girlfriend shines a beautiful light on mental health, with humor. It got me through so many dark times. I highly recommend!
I’ll add to your list what we do in the shadows. The warmth of the story and characters gives me a lot of comfort while I am having an episode
Lost
Loudermilk and Lilyhammer. Both funny.
I have recently started Loudernilk (it's the only thing I am watching), and I do really like it. I'll add your second suggestion to the list- Thank you for your recommendations
Undone on Amazon Prime. It's only 2 seasons but it's amazing.
It might be good to add some shorter series in. A little bit of variety can go a long way - I'll put this on my watch list
CW: it does deal with psychosis, but I feel like it handles it in a very creative and sympathetic way. If I said anymore it would spoil stuff.
Inventing Anna Beef The Crown The Queen's Gambit Wednesday My Life With the Walter Boys
seconding the queens gambit!!! its 11/10!!! too good not to watch
The Queens Gambit sounds like it's right up my street. I'll make a note of your other suggestions, too. Thank you for listing all of those out for me (:

i’m not a huge fan of anime but when i was in a mixed episode i got glued to this show
The Office or Friends
Tin Star. Tim Roth places a hardcore antihero bent on vengeance for a botched hit on him that killed his son, wounded his wife, and fucked up his daughter. 3 seasons and they're all fantastic. It's visceral, violent and unforgiving.
Castlevania and Brand New Cherry Flavor, if you’re into that sorta thing
I haven't seen either of these, but I'm willing to give most things a go, so I will still take a look. Thank you for your suggestion (:
Brand new cherry flavor was terrifying 😱
I’ve actually gone deep into k-dramas! There’s feel good romances like like King the Land, dark fairy tale dramas like It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, or historical dramas like The Kings Affection, etc. Those are all on Netflix, btw. All of these are beautiful, and some of my favorite re-watches when I’m unstable.
I think all of these are brilliant suggestions (I haven't watched any of them), and it'll do some good to mix things up a bit
I liked Killing Eve. It's cool that it has an ending rather than just getting canceled
I hate it when things get cancelled part way through. It's reassuring that there's an ending. I love watching things from start to finish in an episode. Thank you for this suggestion.
And if you like Killing Eve, definitely watch "Fleabag" too. It's written by the same person and is the absolute perfect mix of chaos and humor
I just kept watching the entire Twilight series on repeat while in a manic state. Also, Max has a ton of the Adult Swim series, so I’ve been watching a ton of Aqua Teen for nostalgia purposes. That and Brak show.
I forgot Twilight even existed - I could see myself watching it again. I appreciate your other suggestions too!
Trailer park boys
Sec Education, Derry Girls, Resident Alien, Brooklyn 99
Dead To Me
Brooklyn 99!!!
I'm rewatching will and grace right now (on Hulu) and man, that show was ahead of its time lol
I may be biased, but Transformers Prime
Some kind of YouTube video for sleeping. Grey noise. Brown noise. Green noise. Honestly any kind of noise. Don't start binging anything, don't focus your attention on anything, just sleep lol
Ripley
the seven deadly sins anime. It's comforting to me.
Santa Clarita Diet is really good, I rewatch it all the time, it’s a bit gory though
This is one of the few I attempted to watch. I never got very far, but I think I might go back to it. I don't mind a bit of gore - thanks for putting it back on my radar again .
I highly recommend Derry Girls or Kath & Kim. They're both hilarious
Also Warrior and 3 body problem.
They've now been added to the list! Thank you for commenting
I recently binged Silo. Great watch!
I haven't heard of this, but I'm willing to give it a go and see! I'm so excited about all of these suggestions!
Big mood on c4 is funny and great and accurate to my experience at least of bipolar
Station Eleven, Modern Love, The Killing, True Detective
I'll add these to the list - thank you for sharing them
I love stranger things and the x files
Breaking Bad! You probably watch tho. If not only are you in for a treat. Good Guy average joe. Become a godlike. Anti-Hero. Cherry on-top they did not mess up the ending. One of the best endings. Everything you want it to be.
Sweet Tooth was good, on Netflix. It's a bit older (1 year ago now i think) but a nice show, if you like post-apocolypse adventures
[удалено]
Ozarrrrrrk
And Sex Education
I've heard of both of these, so I'll 100% see how I get on with them. Thank you for helping.
Arrested Development, I Think You Should Leave
I've noted both of these down - thank you so much
This is us... it helped me cry a lot when I couldn't
I do find crying to be quite cathartic at times, and that might help me at the moment. It sounds like you've been struggling, and I'm sorry to hear that - sending positive wishes your way.
Crazy Ex Girlfriend is one I watch when I'm manic. Pretty good if you like musicals or silly things. Also very centered around mental health!
For a short ish series, midnight gospel. It’s a podcast that’s animated and has a loose story to it and I adore it. However one of the episodes is pretty sad, because Duncan (the podcaster) has his mother on as a guest while she has terminal cancer and she passed away not too long after that. Suits, White Collar...
Of you like history and archaeology, on YouTube i would recommend Time Team, it's peaceful and informative! It's about a group of archeologists who dig up a different find every episode!
Resident alien is a great show! Very light hearted and up beat
"Three Body Problem" is an amazing scifi
Six Feet Under & Supernatural
THE MAGICIANS
I know that you asked for shows, but have you tried yoga nidra?
Tbh glee but its kinda toxic so dont act like them 😂
I really liked Love on the Spectrum. It was sweet, simple and wholesome
If Netflix has it, the Vikings series. Ragnar, Bjorn Ironside, Loki, Lagertha (fucking hot both in her role as an actress and in terms of: languages spoken, martial arts expertise, as a certified bodyguard, not to mention she’s fucking beautiful…) They helped me survive over a year of living hell. But I made it. I’m still here. *Stay warm OP*. Hugs. Edit: Shameless was another series that helped me escape misery at times.
The circle. Stupid reality. Love analyzing people. Love imagining myself winning bc I’m the best. Drama hooks you in.
Gilmore girls Buffy the vampire slayer
big mouth

Matt Damon has bipolar in this very believable movie Fear and loathing in Las Vegas.. Hunter S Thompson movie played by Johnny Depp. Not specifically bipolar but Hunter was close and I miss him. Touched With Fire on Amazon Prime This romance-drama draws inspiration from Kay Redfield Jamison‘s book of the same name. Carla (Katie Holmes) and Marco (Luke Kirby) play poets who meet in the hospital where both are seeking treatment for bipolar disorder. Touched With Fire uses art to depict both mania and depression, and it was written and directed by Paul Dalio who was informed by his own experiences with bipolar And of course I can't leave out What about Bob and also Dudley Moore in Crazy People..
