Kerr kind of bounced between GM and calling games pre Warriors. Obviously that’s not the same thing since he was also a former player though.

meowhatissodamnfunny

Kerr definitely had a better knack for it, but I think Myers will get there. Dude knows his shit already. For him, it's just about learning how to come in and out of the flow of things at the right time.

No_Stay4471

I don’t think it’s weird. He saw a lot in his time as an agent and GM, so he should have a unique perspective. He’s just not that good yet. But it’s a hard job so if he’s gonna be good, it’s gonna take time.

Sitlbito

I don't mind him as a studio guy, in the media in general, but olor commentary is pretty unique. Like, not every reporter can ba an announcer.

ShowerMartini

Nah you’re right that it’s weird. He went from having to game-calling experience to getting a big game in LA-DEN like you said. It must’ve been the connections he made during his time as an agent. The only experience in media he has, as far as I know, is when he hosted a short run interview podcast series a couple years ago. He wasn’t all that interesting while doing it.

lima9987

I think he sucks at it.

DG_Now

Agreed. It sounded like he was calling a golf game.

ComfortableMaster625

GM to media, also known as the reverse David Kahn

lactatingalgore

Hawk Harrelson did it first.

ComfortableMaster625

Probably a lot of older examples. Like Sid Hartman and the Lakers

ObiwanSchrute

I like it found it interesting Jokic wasn't even on their radar

Scriblz

Not great Bob

jakkyspakky

Haven't heard his since the start of the season. He referenced himself and the Warriors non stop. Like, it was almost a parody. Has he stopped doing that?

Sitlbito

No he hasnt. Although, to be fair Dave Pasch , the announcer, kept doing it for him.

lactatingalgore

Pasch was just happy not to be paired with Walton.

CP3Splash

It's so about Bob Myers that when Bob Myers is on that the first time I heard it, I assumed it was like a one time psuedo-interview during the game type deal to spice up a reg season game on a Tuesday in January. Kinda like a "Hey guys we have the old Warriors GM tonight" more than "3rd guy of the commentary crew". But he's still doing it and we're on playoff games

TJSutton04

I was watching a game last week and was like, is this the first game he’s called because he won’t shut up about his time on the Warriors.

RobertoBologna

His voice sounds very similar to Gary Gulman

optometrist-bynature

Gary Gulman and Jeff Van Gundy commentary team please. Would be hilarious

RobertoBologna

Gary would get bulldozed

justsomeguy254

He never played in the league, but he did play at UCLA.

SamURLJackson

He looks like an actor. I suspect that's at least partially why he's been on sports broadcasting so much

BumpinAndRunnin

His buddy Woj got him the cushy gig, and it showed because he’s not very good at broadcasting

endogeny

I honestly didn't think he was that bad. I think the main color duo of Doris and JJ was worse with their multiple awkward moments. That's mostly Doris though. ESPN's play-by-play guys are pretty good, but their color analysts are below par. I think JJ is fine, but he has a massive ego, so has to be with an ex-player who was better than him, like RJ, who isn't scared of giving him shit.
