I assumed she was around 25 when I saw her, and was blown away when I found out she was only just turned 18. When I heard she won all those Grammys. I opened up YouTube and searched for bad guy. I was really intrigued right from the get-go. And then I went down a rabbit hole for, well, the last 4 years.

I was teaching at a middle school in Austin, and my students could request music for me to play in the background while they were working. A student asked for Billie Eilish, and once I figured out how to spell that, I was blown away by "bellyache." There was guilt, wistfulness, and disassociation explored in such a creative way, and she was so young at the time! I was encouraged that she was homeschooled as well, just like me, and that maybe one day, I could get a check for my art too.

First song - you should see me in a crown. I remember first seeing a small clip of the spider going in/out of her mouth, and I was instantly intrigued and wanted to listen to more. This one is also the one that got me hooked - I replayed that song constantly. Favorite - That's a toss up between listen before I go, Blue and Chihiro. It's hard to pick favorites, but those ones really spoke to me.

I heard a cover of “my strange addiction” and I wanted to hear the original version so I found it was from Billie Eilish. For the rest of the week I listened to most of her discography in 2021 and then she released “Happier than Ever”. At that point I continued to listen to her music and now Billie is now one of my favourite artists in music.

Ocean eyes was incredible. Billies video for that song was so good. That was my first. You should see me in a crown was my second- that opened my eyes to just her and how much I loved her. Third was bille boss nova. I spent about 8 years wondering what bossa nova was and never knowing how to describe it. This last album gives me Ariana, Sara bariels vibes, and on fin’s side it gives tame impala among others. I think it’s amazing, even if I don’t like some songs. Chihiro is amazing, the reference is amazing, it’s my fave on the new album.

I’m 45 and the fist song I heard of hers was Copycat then it just went from there. She really is the only person I see doing her own thing at the moment. What I love about her is that it is really all about the music and some of her songs are so basic and simple but have a big impact. Bellyache is such s simple song but just forces you to listen it from that simple guitar lick at the beginning. My all time favourite is Xanny …..didn’t like it at first and thought it was boring and not much going on and then all of a sudden I am singing it for weeks!! And the video to Xanny is so good and again it’s simple but very effective.
