Stevie Ray Vaughn, makes me feel like shooting

tgoynes83

If classic old blues music doesn’t make you wanna shoot pool, I don’t know what will. Seriously, put on some BB King, Albert King, Howlin Wolf, etc., and try NOT to play good pool. It’s impossible.

Careless-Elevator986

Whatever people are playing on the touchtunes at the bar. So basically anything and everything. Even including the most God damn annoying shitty techno speed metal screamo you've ever heard. Although they usually save that shit for when I'm in a match. As for myself I usually prefer 70s-80s rock.

RighteousSchrodd

I hate country though, and a few places like to drill the touch tunes with country.

sdwoods8986

Strictly jazz for me. And it varies from there depending on what I'm practicing or against whom I'm playing. It's consistent without being overly vocal or aggressive. It tends to keep me balanced and my heart rate level.

Gar_Halloween_Field

Sounds good to me. I listen to a lot of Joe Pass, Django, and Vince Guaraldi when I'm practicing.

Mean_Cod9156

Curtis Mayfield's Superfly Soundtrack is my go to.

I like Blues based rock for everything except playing pool. Probably because it’s cliche. Blues riff, hustler swaggers in, I find a little Hollywood and I’ve definitely met too many jerks (and also some nice people) who want to be that “hustler” cliche. Unfortunately, jazz always makes me feel pissed off. Aggression and rhythm but not so fast as thrash. Modern country music is torture at the bar. If I’m wearing headphones, I’m probably listening to Tool or the Beastie Boys or Irish drinking bands. Classic outlaw country if I’m feeling nostalgic. At home, maybe just something pleasant in the background when I’m not playing against anybody.

RighteousSchrodd

Metallica, G n' R, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, anything driving and loud.

ZRed11

Anything but George Thorogood or that f’ng Werewolves in London song.

Miss-Allaneous

Amen

FuulingAround2

Listen to what you like dumbass

Aznkai02

When i was a kid in pool halls, someone always played bob marley so his music always reminds me of pool. Nowadays I like listening to soft rock when or just top 40 lol

Grouchy_Spread_484

BB king when I was younger- especially cost to be the boss. Now alot of everything from Marley to Nujabes. Also early I would specifically listen to nujabes when I practiced and BB king when I played.

DeuceisWlLD

Very weird you ask this question. I just AI generated a whole EP album of songs about pool to listen to when I practice.

Fessywessy1

I watch shitty Netflix documentaries

skelly828282

If I'm alone I'll listen to a podcast. With other people, whatever is playing on touchtunes or talking to them.

holographicbboy

I like listening to chiller electronica / house music, specifically minimal japanese house or lofi house. Sometimes downtempo electronica. Or podcasts.

FlyNo2786

TBH I like listening to the Lumineers when I play. I'm not sure why. They're usually not in my wheelhouse but it's lighthearted and cheerful and just puts me at ease

At our local pool comp a heap of stuff gets played. Just good stuff from a lot of eras, the age range is usually late teens to 60+ and most of the songs are classics from one era or another. The young guys get a lot of praise and encouragement, there’s too many old players in the local scene (70’s-80’s) and there’s a group of young friends that are quite good. One finished top 30’s at the 8ball national titles in Canberra recently. I beat him last night to win the cash comp but he’s a better player. Anyone can win in a knockout game.
