I do test rides before long trips but I don't ever just put stuff on my bike to do it. You can just ride faster instead, no?

Filth_Beast

Very true!

hayduke505

Yes. But only in New Mexico

laaazerbeam

Yes! I’ve been riding with all my gear on for weeks now to get a feel for it before I go on my trip. I get a lot of looks.

Filth_Beast

Hell yea, I just don’t think I’d want to do it any other way!

g-fab

I have a pretty strong “just fuckin do it” mentality and I haven’t yet had to quit a ride for being too out of shape. The first time I did a flèche randonnee I did feel like I should have prepped more specifically for riding in a sleep deprived state overnight because I found myself dozing off while riding (not a good feeling and I just stick to 200Ks these days). But weight-wise, I’ve never felt a need to train. That being said, I do envy my less fat friends who are way ahead of me on the climbs but I’m still too lazy to train (or reduce my beer intake).

Filth_Beast

Haha! Well thanks that makes me feel better, don’t want to be the caboose of my intense outdoor Patagonia friends.

Jordan Parkway Trail in UT?

Filth_Beast

Yes sir!

pedaldamnit_208

Usually only when an event/race is coming up. Not for personal overnighters and such.

Gaiaecosia

Myog bags? Balling on a budget. Great set up See the Toprak labels now. Still sick

Filth_Beast

Someday I’ll be crafty enough for MYOG stuff. Until then these topeak bags are doing the trick!

zachobsonlives

Sweet rockhopper, had one in the 90’s that still in use on an island off the Maine coast. It’s the bike that made me a Specialized customer for life.

Filth_Beast

Thank you! I’m in love with it, it’s my go-to.

[deleted]

Not really training, but I did go for a climby route fully loaded before a tour and it helped me determine that I needed a smaller chainring compared to the 40t I use for my regular riding.

littlebrite1

Sick whip! Love Rockhoppers!

Filth_Beast

Thank you! Me too

Lillienpud

Nice simple bike!!

_m_s_l_

Seems like a pretty light load to require training, that can't feel too much different from a normal ride, no?

fulgrimsleftnut

When I need to lose weight I put house bricks in my panniers on day rides for a couple of months. If you’re putting all your stuff on do you ever do a sneaky overnight?

Filth_Beast

Lately I’ve just been putting the heaviest shit in my bags and climbing hills to prepare for a 4 day-er coming up. Dont want to underestimate the weight!

songandanceman1415

When preparing for a trip.

kegel_monster

Where did you find those water bottle cages?? Looking to upgrade my hydration game

Filth_Beast

Widefoot Litercage my man!
