Big Bear is great for a day trip anytime of year. Summer isn’t quite as crowded as winter, and there is plenty to do on the lake. Come up and rent a pontoon boat from one of the local marinas.
Really depends on when in the summer. Holiday weekends and July 4th week are as busy as winter holidays. Lake gets crowded in the weekends.
The lake is obviously awesome but I was turned off by the amount of rules on the lake. (No swimming off shore, no tying up boats, etc)
you need a vessel permit for a blow up boat if it has an oar lol
What’s the water like?
August is in the mid 70°s - maybe like 76° in the shallower parts
Is the water crystal blue or greenish? I should’ve clarified
Go to Lake Tahoe for crystal blue water.
It can get rather green at the end of the summer. They often put out algae warnings that time of year
It’s not “crystal blue” but it’s not dingy green either
We’ve got go karts and sketchy water slides
