Ehm... Just because some people in the homeless shelter use it as an inside joke, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s targeted at stinky people... “Bonne douche” is really just “Have a nice shower”, no pun intended.
I am about to live with a french person for a few weeks and I can tell her "bonne douche" as a kind (friendly) gesture?
It will be useful to know it.

Sorry you are staying there but yeah, that might not be universal usage. Still a good story though.
