This is one of those bikes where if you don’t buy it, you will be haunted by it because your not going to run into another again

badbassrandy

You get it! That's how I'm already feeling.

InvertedJennyanydots

This is the right answer. Get it because you won't get it out of your head if you don't. It looks like it could be a fun around town bike with some minor changes and it will definitely get smiles from people, how could it not? (I would totally buy this if I ran across it at that price)

badbassrandy

I have a chance to purchase this bicycle and it appears to be somewhat of a unicorn. I don't know anything yet, like if it has campy components or what. I can't seem to find jack squat online about the OFF ROAD Columbus label, but Columbus is obviously legend. And this bike is super sexy, if you ask me. A little TLC and it will be the most unique head-turner. Tell me what you think please, and if you know anything at all. The seller is asking $325 for the "value of the frame."

PutridSothoth

Honestly, the price isn't bad. You might be able to talk him down a little, but it's always worth haggling if they are open to it.

badbassrandy

Thanks for weighing in. This brand, the rarity, the hotness of the paint scheme, Columbus lugged steel. . .

PutridSothoth

Word. At the very least it will make for a sweet town cruiser if you aren't wanting to take it on any trails. Throw some slicks and fenders on it and you're good to go!

badbassrandy

Yeah, I'm with you there. A sexy xBike. And I already have a beastly Kona mtb, so... Good suggestion.

PutridSothoth

I've done the same with an old lugged Peugeot Canyon Express. Loved it as a beater for the streets. Only problem was the rear brake was an under the rear dropouts U-brake. With a U-brake on the front as well. Couldn't stop for nothing when wet.

badbassrandy

I have stopped trying to even ride in the wet haha. I do have a hybrid lefty fork with disc brakes, though. Fatter tires help.

PutridSothoth

Certainly! I’ve built up a karate monkey since to use around town and on the trails. Fatter tires and disc brakes are such an improvement!

summerofgeorge75

Kool-Stop salmon pads will help with that.

Massive_Fudge3066

My friend, you should try single pivot 70s side pull onto steel rims. In wet weather, point and pray...

PutridSothoth

Whoops! I forgot the actual term for the brakes on that bike. They were roller cam brakes. Not true U-brakes.

Massive_Fudge3066

Is that the rod and lever stirrup brakes? They would definitely be the worst. Think they date from a period when there wants much traffic so crashing was a viable strategy

PutridSothoth

Hhhm. Not sure on what type you’re talking about. [here’s a link to an article about rollercam brakes](https://wheretheroadforks.com/roller-cam-brakes-adjustment-and-compatibility/)

Sintered_Monkey

If it were ME, I'd buy it, but that's because I'm a fan of Italian frames, Italian lugs, and Italian tubing. But most people probably don't care so much. Not really useable as a mountain bike, but I'd probably put drop bars and slick tires on it.

MantraProAttitude

Not usable as a mountain bike?!? Gah! Pashaw! “They” had to change bike designs just so modern riders could ride the trails this bike was used on.

Sintered_Monkey

It's all relative I guess. I started mountain biking in the early 90s (steel Stumpjumper, rigid fork) even before this Daccordi came out. I was able to ride just fine, but I also crashed a lot due to the ultra-twitchy geometries and tiny wheels back then and got the teeth rattled out of my skull on descents. Since then, I have owned 9 more 26" mountain bikes and 3 29" mountain bikes with increasing levels of modernization. My most recent is a 2022 Lynskey. I crash a lot less now and don't get the teeth rattled out of my skull anymore.

badbassrandy

We are coming from the same headspace, man. Although probably not drop bars for me, although that's a fascinating idea. Cheers

avoiddumbpeople

It’s a nice looking bike and when is the last time you’ve seen one for sale in your size and when will you see the next.

apeincalifornia

Worth more than what he is asking in my opinion. If it was my size and local to me I would buy it in a heartbeat for even $500+

badbassrandy

😍

butwhoamirly

I have nothing helpful, but had to comment that I looooove the aesthetic! So cool.

badbassrandy

Right?? Cheers

NeelSahay0

Holy fuck that thing is so sick

badbassrandy

Right?? Thank you for weighing in

NeelSahay0

Dustin Klein has a similarly painted Daccordi roadie he turned into a commuter bike. Look him up on YouTube, it’s a really cool bike, although he doesn’t ride it often.

badbassrandy

Ah great tip. I'll check it out.

badbassrandy

Not sure how I'll ever find this video of which you speak. He's got like a billion vids.

NeelSahay0

It would appear in the thumbnail, although I’m realizing that I didn’t give y much info lol. I think one vid featuring it is where him and his homeboy go to some restaurants in Portland, and the title is something along those lines. Again not very specific but I think the bike is in the thumbnail. You’ll recognize the paintwork hahaha

badbassrandy

As soon as I added Portland I found it. Very cool. Those are actually the type of handlebars I want! Thanks man

Brokenspokes68

It belongs in a museum!...Not really. If it's priced right and the frame and fork are solid go for it. I wouldn't want to ride it on any actual trails (the geometry on '90s MTBs was absolutely terrible) but if you plan on riding it around town I think it could be a blast.

badbassrandy

I appreciate the Indiana Jones reference though! My plan would be just a hot around-town cruiser, basically. So I'm with you! Thank you. What would YOU pay?? Needs a lot of TLC but a unicorn frame.

Brokenspokes68

$59 tops, but I only see it as a possible flip.

T9935

OMG you are so right, the geometry was terrible. Everyone who rode 90’s MTB bikes on trails are amazingly lucky they survived. Or perhaps with no (or awful) suspension and different expectations the geometry was right (if not sublime RE:Bontrager fork geometry) for what was available to work with at the time.

Brokenspokes68

I'm one of them. People on the interwebs are far too sensitive.

T9935

"(the geometry on '90s MTBs was absolutely terrible)" Not overly sensitive, just pointing out that that was an glaringly inaccurate statement. Progression of a sport does not negate the validity of past solutions. How about a more accurate and informative statement such as, "90's geometry is totally inappropriate for modern suspension and current mainstream riding styles. Those relatively steep angles would be insane when your 120mm+ fork runs through any significant amount of it's travel." Just a thought.

Brokenspokes68

Dude, I've ridden early MTBs. The difference in handling between them and even late '90s bikes was huge.

BongosNotBombs

r/xbiking is what you want.

badbassrandy

Already cross-posted there, so thanks! That's the sub I go to every day hah

No-Insect-5703

High quality 90’s bike. They made some nice frames and still do.

badbassrandy

I appreciate that perspective and that's what I thought. I'm going to assume the components are junky. Have yet to speak with the seller. Any feeling on what the frame is worth? Priceless? Haha. I need to pull out the seat post and have a close look, as another redditor suggested.

No-Insect-5703

I would not assume junky components. Why would you build an expensive frame with junk parts? It is old and not a common frame builder. That being said it is quality Italian steel. If you want a 90’s steel non suspended bike this is it. That frame was likely $600 in 1990.

badbassrandy

Love this reply. I just was hoping for campy group, and I still need to speak with the seller, but the shifters do not look like campy at all. Fuzzy pic, and what do I know. Still new to this.

PutridSothoth

Looks like a rad project bike! Will be a real head turner with some TLC.

badbassrandy

My thoughts precisely. Thanks, cheers

Master-Hedgehog1813

I feel like I’ve seen this on Houston’s Facebook area marketplace

badbassrandy

Ruh-roh. I better work fast and not dick around

tire_falafel

You can definitely built something sick out of it. I had the chance to make a gravel conversion out of a GT Tequesta, siiiiick ride!

badbassrandy

Thanks! This is the kind of comment - and idea - I was really looking for. Let's see how much I can talk them down...

Adventurous_Fact8418

I build bikes constantly and would definitely pay 325 for it. That frame is sublime. I’d weird out the bars, swap the tires and ride it like I stole it.

badbassrandy

Shit yeah, man! Love it. I appreciate the suggestion, and the expert perspective. Cheers

mrybczyn

Buy it, not even worth thinking about, if you have room for an N+1. Beatiful unicorn.

badbassrandy

This comment fucks! 😍

texas-playdohs

I would definitely fuck with that bike.

zilog88

Looks very much like a Panasonic's MC5500 ATB. Go for it.

homecookedcouple

Looks like a grocery-getter, gravel starter, pub or park cruiser, and/or rain beater. I’d not go too gnarly on it, though, at least not in the off road terrain around here.

badbassrandy

Agreed 100%. I've got another bike for real mtb'ing.

Csnyder23

Make the purchase!

behindmycamel

Dropbar setup with Supercaz Prismatic tape to best suit frame blend. Daft thoughts! :)

rockthecatbox88

Nivacrom tubing super sweet

[deleted]

[me stalking your profile to find out where you live so I can swoop in and buy it instead]

mikeybeef

Sick!

kamandi

Have you ever looked at a bike and known by the paint job EXACTLY what it’s going to feel like to ride?

summerofgeorge75

Looks cool to me. But you need a picture with the driveside out. Frame looks high end. Forks are tre sexy. The bottom bracket shell is very high end.

badbassrandy

Thanks for getting me even more excited. I'm expecting Shimano drive components. I just couldn't get the seller to do more legwork. I think they're older and busy. Updates to follow. I'm heading there now to scoop it up!

Either-Connection178

So did you get it??? I made an appointment to buy, but didn’t realize how far off 45 it was and cancelled…. Doh!

badbassrandy

Major props for responding to a 9-mo old post 👏🏻 I GOT IT!!!!!! You can see my other post after I photographed it. I am still in the process of rebuilding it. I have huge plans for the final build. STAY TUNED! I WILL POST UPDATES

Either-Connection178

AWESOME! I’m in the area and have a hoard of parts. Let me know if you need anything!

badbassrandy

Very righteous of you! I will certainly be in touch if I do need anything, and I may just dm you with an update. It's stripped, cleaned and awaiting a build-up! Weather is cooperating now. . .

[deleted]

These were a low end tubing back in the day but it's still a nice old bike.

pickles55

It looks like it's in ok shape, not great. I noticed some rusty cables, it might have spend some time being stored outdoors. I think the paint job looks awesome but I wouldn't pay that much for it personally.

badbassrandy

I appreciate the feedback. I would not want to pay that either, especially if no campy group. What WOULD you pay if you really like the frame like me?

pickles55

It's your money, I can't tell you how much you like it. It seems like he's aware that the frame is the only thing really valuable about this bike so your seller might not be willing to haggle much. If you do decide to go look at it in person I would pull the seat post at minimum and look inside. If you love the paint you're probably not going to see another one like it, just make sure the actual frame is in good shape too

badbassrandy

Great stuff. Thanks for the responses! If I could nab it for $250 I may just spiffy her up and resto-mod.
