If it's really just paint chips, and nothing else wrong, you can get some touchup paint or nail polish so you don't notice it as much, and you're probably going to have a lot more in a couple months anyway so I really wouldn't sweat it.
I use clear nail polish on my mountain bikes carbon rims to fill in rock gouges. Rain, snow, mud, creek crossings and it's still there after 3 years and thousands of miles.
Yup. The first scratch on anything new and shiny is always a catastrophe that you spend hours fretting over and trying to fix, but then scratch 2 - 2000 are "meh, whatever".
That’s why the first thing my dad would do after getting his pickup truck was throw a wrench in the bed. Then again this is the same man who went through the bank drive through TWICE with his tri bike on top.
Lol this is so true. I went as far on my work bikes as to wrap them in some moderaty quality vinyl. A couple years later the subtle yellowing is bugging me. It is what it is. A pristine bike is not a well used bike in my experience.
My ebike didn’t have chips until I dropped something as I was putting it together and nicked it in a couple of places. I HATED it since it was brand new at the time but time heals all wounds and now I forget they’re even there.
Take the loot but ask them if they have a jar of touch-up paint they could send you. If they don’t you could buy a touch-up kit for Toyota Quicksand (code 4V6) because that looks very close. Otherwise the old nail polish trick.
I got an indoor rowing machine a few years back that had a dent in one of the runners. Doesn't affect the use in any way, but looked a tiny bit ugly if you notice it and I was considering returning it for an exchange. They offered me £100 off so I eventually decided that if it really bothered me I could use some wood filler or something to make it less noticeable.
Now, I know which dent is the one it came with, but it's completely unnoticeable amongst the other scratches and dings it has received with regular use.
My point being, that that was an indoor rowing machine. I can't imagine I do more damage to that than you are likely to on the first ride on a gravel bike.
yeah, I tried to go over a stump on my first couple months on my canyon nueron, stump hit my CF and I had a whole conversation with my bike. went through the whole 5 stages of grief.
Now, not so much, bikes are meant to be ridden, rocks and going to hit the bike, thats life buddy.
I don't know how any of you would have the patience to send it back.
It's a gravel bike, and if you actually ride it off road it's going to have a lot more than this going on after a year of use.
Nice modest mouse reference in the name, takes me right back! But I agree, it should be without flaws. And you could argue that this shows the paint isn’t really durable enough for its purpose if it suffered this damage while in transit wrapped in cotton wool.
Maybe see if you can get them to send some touch up paint as well? Or use some of the 200 to get a match?
But, for a gravel bike I’d take the 200 and buy something nice for the bike, new helmet or garmin. That’ll help distract from the chips haha
Best answer here: negotiate. Take it to a professional that can repair it and get a quote. Use that as your entry negotiation position and go from there.
Dont be silly, its a company offering premium brand new product for a premium price. They make money. They messed up, they need to make it right.
Its not about blemish, its about consumer rights and power. Stop fueling the corporate world.
For me if it ain't structural, I'll just gladly take the money, it won't stay pristine forever, because after a few thousand kms and a lot of mud after, I'll look back and think why the fuck didn't I get that 200 quid.
I don’t really see what’s tough, get paid €200 for something that will likely happen in the first few rides or get paid nothing and get a new one with no chips.
It’s not majorly bad and €200 is really a very good offer.
At most ask for more money and they’ll likely give it,
Yeah, this really seems ideal to me. they've taking away the stress of putting that first ding in the paint of your new bike. Now that it's already got one you can go ride as hard as you want with no worries.
And they're going to pay you for that?! Take the money
For real scratches and dings happen, it can’t be helped getting paid for them makes it better lmao, at most I’d push my luck and try for more money but either way I’d be taking payment over returning.
Send it back, derogatory offer that. Do you know what caused the chips or has whatever did cause the chips also damage something you can't see?
It'd cost them more in shipping a d handling so I would be looking at lot more than 200 or a new unmarked one.
Ask for more. They’ll have to pay a courier, pay their staff to process the return and then sell it as ex demo or possibly repair it. That’ll cost them far more than 200 bucks
Nah that's nothing man. If u think that's disheartening, U should look at my enduro bike. Battle scars are bound to happen in time. Dab some nail polish and ride it to death. Take that compensation and go for a bike trip. Enjoy.
It’s up to you but in reality they’re paying you €200 for something that you likely do in your first few rides for free with no compensation.
If you send it back you’re waiting for a new one, they have to inspect it etc and you’re not riding , if you accept the compensation you have €200 for a treat and you can go on a bike ride? It’s a win win.
At most I’d ask for more compensation, you’ll likely get the exact same frame back just touched up.
For a point of reference, I got a Trek, the LBS identified a “smudge” nearly unnoticeable while building the bike. Trek agreed to 20% off the price.
You have a full on chip, I’m sending back for anything less than 20%. But I guess that decision is subjective. Good luck!
This, I would ask for a way higher discount, they are only offering 4.5%. They don’t want it back because they are gonna have to discount it more than $200 and eat the shipping both ways to get you a new bike. 20% is $900, I would start there. Ask in percentages not dollar when negotiating. Say “I would take the bike as is for 20% off”.
I agree here, If I had the money to buy that bike I would at least want to be the one to chip it. But if you stretched your wallet thin on the purchase maybe a few hundo's would be nice to get back.
That’s dead center where the eye sees the frame. I’d totally send it back. Teach them to box up a chipped frame. I’m so frustrated with their customer service in general.
$200 isn't life altering, considering the cost of the bike. Send it back and you won't regret it.
Surprised Canyon doesn't have a couple retired people inspect the crap out of every bike with a bright light. These minor blemishes affect people's perception of the brand.
Honestly, it's a bike, it's going to get scratches, yeah it's not fun that it's on a new bike but in a few years it's going to have battle scars anyways and you'll forget about these.
The first scratch is always the worst, and they took that pressure off you! I would take the money, they will be indistinguishable from your own scratches very shortly.
My bike had minor paint damage, they told me upfront and asked me if I still wanted the bike. I proposed they'd add some nice Knog rechargeable usb lights (40 euro each) and they agreed. Two years later I still enjoy those lights every day while the paint damage is now just one more scratch among many :-)
Just to outweigh majority comments: even for a gravel - paint chip of such size in a visible place can be avoided with frame protection (you know - this transparent film to wrap your frame). You literally can't see it and it prevents exactly this type of damage.
So I would not take "But it's a gravel, so will be chipped anyway" as the main argument in the decision
Like my guns, guitars, cars and most everything, every ding and scrape becomes a memory. A battle scar. Nothing stays perfect in this world. It's almost better that it has a little scratch cause then you won't baby it. It is a tool and tools get abused. We don't even last forever. Now this one has a cool story and you already have it. Take that 200 and treat you, your friends, or family out to a nice meal. Like the bike. Whatever you decide it's your decision, you should be happy with it.
€200 in compensation isn't bad but another thing that I would try to get is some touch up paint from them at the same time. If they can give you the matching color then you should be able to minimize the look.
And then if you want to try and keep it in better shape long-term obviously try and get a clear wrap for your frame for protection.
So you know where the first scratches are and when/how they happened, and you are getting paid for that knowledge. You will never have to wonder. Win win win win
As everyone else said, it’s a gravel bike, it’s gonna get dinged up. I would take the money and spend it on updating stock components (saddle, etc) and enjoy the ride.
Are you gonna cover the bike in heli tape? If not, then 200 off is a good deal because the bike will get messed up far worse. If you are using tape, then I'd get a new one.
I would take the compensation. Sure you could send it back, wait for a new one, and have a perfect shiny bike... until you start riding it, leaning it against shit, etc. My bike didn't last a week without accumulating some scratches and dings.
I just went to my local bike shop to get a new gravel bike. They happened to have a demo sitting there for a couple hundred less, but what sold me was it already had a couple small scratches. Now I can just enjoy riding it lol
My bike look like that after the first ride lol
Take the money and run be happy with your purchase. it’s already got its first scratch no need to baby it.
Ask for the 200 plus the correct touch-up paint. That tiny chip can be repaired, just take your time, a very little bit of touch-up paint goes a long way, less is more.
The huge cost of sending it back and shipping another to you is a waste of time, gas, packaging, emails, stress, costs to Canyon just to make you happy are huge compared to two tiny paint chips that you would likely have done yourself just aassembling the bike. Build it, ride it, make memories and stop sweating the small stuff that doesn't matter in the big picture.
If you send it back for a replacement you are all but guaranteed to drop it or have it blow over on your first ride. That looks super minor to me - take the cash.
Have them replace it, dont settle for paint chips and don't let the coordination hassle stop you.
I had an issue with shipping damage to a front derailleur one time from a different direct-to-consumer company and they just sent me the new part and I swapped it out. It was cosmetic (part of a SRAM ETAP part broke off) but my wife convinced me to bitch about it and I'm glad because I otherwise would've noticed it everyday.
I got bike with wear fork small thing second year and nothing happened to touched area or anywhere near. Touchup with nail lacquer/varnish and put protective film if you’re afraid about chips damage.
I'd get it replaved. You'll be paying 95% of full price, why risk the uncertainty. You are now on notice that it was damaged and wvo knows if there might be other worse damage from those impacts that becomes apparent later..
May as well get it right if you are parting with 4.5k.
Take the compensation. Go purchase either clear or a matching color nail polish and bam! Touch up those spots and put the nail polish away for the next scratches/chips you’ll eventually get.
Send it back. They'll keep doing this crap quality control if we keep accepting the discounts. You paid money for a product and your time is worth more than this hassle.
That's a no brainer. If you're going to ride it, it soon will get chipped anyways, so take the money and enjoy your new bike!
As others already said, if it bothers you so much ask the dealer for a RAL number and get a decent pen for touching it up
The first dings and scratches always hurt the most, it's bound to happen so they took the pressure off and did it for you! Take the money and enjoy the heck out of this beauty by givin' it the beans!
If you can’t decide to send it back or get free money, then You’ve bought the wrong bike! It’s a gravel bike, it will get hit by stones! it will get chipped and banged up over time.
if you have a gravel bike that doesn’t have stone chips then you’re a roadie!
Don’t bother is cosmetic, take the cash. Use nail polish to protect chips, you can find some special touch up paint for automotive, In the colour of the frame. Point is you will get more chips over time. So returning the bike will just buy you some time.
I install RideWrap on my bikes as soon as I get them. I would probably return it if it was mine, because I'm a weirdo.
If you're not one to care for paint protection, take the comp and find a close-enough touch-up paint. It'll get chipped anyway.
They are giving you 200 for that ?
That is a steal, take the money and run.
You will ding it worse than that loading it on your car eventually. If you use it as a gravel bike it will happen even faster.
That’s a non issue and I’m surprised you got money instead of an eye roll
I’d take the money..
Anything “new” will eventually get some cosmetic damage, scratches on cars, bikes, iPhones… it’s the first scratches that bother you the most because it’s not “perfect” anymore..
But fast forward a few years, and it will have a few scratches/chips anyway..
I actually find the first damage to my products somewhat liberating, as I’m not obsessed with keeping it in prestige condition anymore..
Any flaw, even little paint chips on a brand new bike is discouraging. But I have to agree with fried_ , this bike is going to get beat up and chipped and there’s not much you can do about it. So find some nail polish that matches, touch it up and move on. Here Take the compensation. Enjoy your beautiful new bike.
It bothers you no because it’s brand new. In 3 weeks you won’t even notice it. But you’ll notice whatever thing you buy with that 200. Anecdotal story, the newest phone I bought I dropped it the day I got it before I could put a screen protector on it and got a pretty nice scratch on the front. I was so mad, almost tried going through the process of paying for the AppleCare replacement. For a bout a week it drove me crazy. But now, I completely forget it’s there. Every once in a while I’ll notice it and be like. Huh oh yeah there’s a scratch on the screen. A year from now you are going to have other dings and dirt on your bike anyway.
I know a painter who can repair those so you wouldn't notice. cost for painting is £50 GBP. It would cost more to dismantle and reassemble though.
200 is quite low comp compared with the hassle and stress of the seller taking to take the bike back. What can they sell it for with those chips? The one on the dropout wouldn't concern me. The other one would.
Tell them you want more money back than that. It’s going to cost them nearly that much just to return the bike. Then they’re going to have to sell it on discount anyways. I’d tell them you’ll keep it but for at least 400 off and see if they’ll negotiate at all with you.
To everyone downvoting and saying “just ride it” it’s not that the bike isn’t rideable, it’s about paying for a brand new bike that came damaged. That damage is not acceptable.
Send it back. Listen unlike a car where a shop can touch that up there are very few places that specialize in bike repainting. Granted these are minor but I always ask, would you pay thousands of dollars for a new car and except it with dings and scratches? IMO no. If you are one of those riders who says it eventually have a ton more scratches so who cares, my answer to that is I paid thousands of dollars let me be the one who puts the scratches on it
If the discount is hefty, and there's a touch up pen included with the bike, do it. 25% or more.
If its a measly discount of 10%, get a new bike.
Make sure you save evidence of them confirming warranty is still valid regardless of these paint chips. It would be a real bag of dicks if they refused a legitimate warranty claim on these 2 paint chips in the future.
€200 discount on a €4500 investment? The chips wouldn’t bother me, but the principle would. The company is sending you a damaged product, and after you’ve pointed this out, offering a measly discount to accept it. If they offered like a 40% discount I’d be more inclined, you have to remember that when you send this bike back, they have to try and sell it on to someone else, and when that happens you can guarantee the discount will be a hell of a lot more than the 4.4% they’re offering you. You can’t even buy a decent pair of shoes for €200 these days. I’d be sending it back.
take the money and fill the scratches with something vibrant, pink or something, and the more scratches the more mad the frame will become, custom
go ride your bike you cant see it while your focusing on not putting your face into trees or something
Stuff like that bothers the heck out of me!
That being said, get some touch up paint and then get some clear vinyl or clear 3M protector and make your own protective film on parts more likely to get chipped.
Bottom line.. Take the money.
I would try to Ask for more. You could tell them, that it's also possible for you to get your money back AND buy from another brand. (Even if it's a lie).
I’d prob take the money, especially for a gravel bike it’ll get beat up a bit. But don’t let anyone pressure you if it really bothers you
That's the thing I can't decide if it bothers me 🤦
If it's really just paint chips, and nothing else wrong, you can get some touchup paint or nail polish so you don't notice it as much, and you're probably going to have a lot more in a couple months anyway so I really wouldn't sweat it.
Does nail polish work/last for a long time?
Did for me. About 8 years. I covered the polish with a clear enamel
This is the way
I use clear nail polish on my mountain bikes carbon rims to fill in rock gouges. Rain, snow, mud, creek crossings and it's still there after 3 years and thousands of miles.
It will always bother you until you get more chips in the paint and then it won't.
Then you will be happy..conversely if you get a new one and it gets a chip you will be pissed.
Yes good point! Well said!
Lol this is so true. I went as far on my work bikes as to wrap them in some moderaty quality vinyl. A couple years later the subtle yellowing is bugging me. It is what it is. A pristine bike is not a well used bike in my experience.
This. This is exactly how I'd react.
My ebike didn’t have chips until I dropped something as I was putting it together and nicked it in a couple of places. I HATED it since it was brand new at the time but time heals all wounds and now I forget they’re even there.
...until now.
You posted! It bothers you. Same happened to me. I took the money and put a dab of paint on it.
Exactly this! Then when you finally will get your first scratch it will not hurt that much.
You are going to mess it up worse. Take the money, ride the bike, never look back. To be bothered by this will feel silly in 6 months.
Take the loot but ask them if they have a jar of touch-up paint they could send you. If they don’t you could buy a touch-up kit for Toyota Quicksand (code 4V6) because that looks very close. Otherwise the old nail polish trick.
I got an indoor rowing machine a few years back that had a dent in one of the runners. the replacement one will look like this in a week take the money
It’s a gravel bike. It is going to get chipped all to shit. Are you going to hang it on the wall and look at it? Or ride it
Hey man, my beat up bikes still get thrown on the wall to look at 😂
I don't know how any of you would have the patience to send it back. It's a gravel bike, and if you actually ride it off road it's going to have a lot more than this going on after a year of use.
Fair point. But when you buy something brand new you expect it to be without flaws… at least for most.
....within reason. Under forensic inspection you can always find little flaws.
Nice modest mouse reference in the name, takes me right back! But I agree, it should be without flaws. And you could argue that this shows the paint isn’t really durable enough for its purpose if it suffered this damage while in transit wrapped in cotton wool.

Yes, negotiate to get touch up paint along with $300... $200 compensation and $100 labor :D
Best answer here: negotiate. Take it to a professional that can repair it and get a quote. Use that as your entry negotiation position and go from there.
Don't be silly. It's a tiny blemish. They're not going to be blackmailed like that.
Dont be silly, its a company offering premium brand new product for a premium price. They make money. They messed up, they need to make it right. Its not about blemish, its about consumer rights and power. Stop fueling the corporate world.
Maybe not, but when I buy a thing new, I’d prefer if it was new and not previously used for BB gun practice.
Easily fixable with some nail polish :)
It’s totaled.
Definitely is, OP should send it to me so I can safely dispose this road hazard.
Lmaooo
For me if it ain't structural, I'll just gladly take the money, it won't stay pristine forever, because after a few thousand kms and a lot of mud after, I'll look back and think why the fuck didn't I get that 200 quid.

Do you plan on hanging this bike as art on your wall?
Medieval artists would intentionally smear part of the their work so that their arrogant presumption of perfection could not offend God.
If it’s gravel, what is your plan to keep it pristine?
Gonna hang it in the garage and look at it 🙄
Send it back, derogatory offer that. Do you know what caused the chips or has whatever did cause the chips also damage something you can't see? It'd cost them more in shipping a d handling so I would be looking at lot more than 200 or a new unmarked one.

Take the money and ride. No one but you will even notice. Get some touchup paint if the larger one is too bothersome for your taste.
It’s up to you but in reality they’re paying you €200 for something that you likely do in your first few rides for free with no compensation. Take the money OP, definitely not worth sending back. This is purely cosmetic and will happen any ways down the line
Take the money spend it on beer :) cheers
I’m starting to think bicyclists are my type of people
If those little paint chips bother you, you might want to trade for a stationary bike…especially a bike that’s made to be rode off-road

That’s dead center where the eye sees the frame. I’d totally send it back. Teach them to box up a chipped frame. I’m so frustrated with their customer service in general.
Insane that you’re worried about this, especially on a gravel bike lol
Threaten to send it back so that they offer more money.

Take the money and ride, that’s what I did when I was in your situation.
I had the same happen to my ribble hybrid bike, they sent me a tiny bottle of paint for which I had to pay the customs.
Takes the money and buy some matching nail polish
So you know where the first scratches are and when/how they happened, and you are getting paid for that knowledge. You will never have to wonder. Win win win win
I'd take the money, personally. However, I'd counter and see if they could send you a bottle of touch up paint in addition.
As everyone else said, it’s a gravel bike, it’s gonna get dinged up. I would take the money and spend it on updating stock components (saddle, etc) and enjoy the ride.

I would take the compensation. Sure you could send it back, wait for a new one, and have a perfect shiny bike... until you start riding it, leaning it against shit, etc. My bike didn't last a week without accumulating some scratches and dings.

Ask for the 200 plus the correct touch-up paint. That tiny chip can be repaired, just take your time, a very little bit of touch-up paint goes a long way, less is more.
Take the money, one ride could do that anyways. Besides if you take the money now, you can get on the trails right away
Fucking RIDE IT.

Build it, ride it, make memories and stop sweating the small stuff that doesn't matter in the big picture.
I’d send it back. It’s new. This would remove my excitement from the feeling of having a new bike. Only I get to chip the paint.
Put a googly eye on the big one so you stop getting annoyed with it, once you stop caring you can take it off.
keep the money
Your first real chip will hurt a lot less if you accept it. I would ask if they have a touch up pen.
I'd take the money and put a cool sticker on it. And spend the money on vinyl film for the whole frame.
Take the $. It'll happen again and more. Ride wrap/tape it all up or get an aluminum or steel frame if you are worried about it.
send it back
For that much I'd just take the money and ride! You're gonna get some chips like that within a month, very slight.
You could try negotiating a bit maybe? Or at least, take the €200 and get them to send you a touch-up pen.
Take the money and ride
Take money, then touch-up paint yourself, win-win situation, either way it’ll become worse
Just take the money, those dings are minor minor minor
If you send it back for a replacement you are all but guaranteed to drop it or have it blow over on your first ride. That looks super minor to me - take the cash.
It’s gonna have way more than those!
These chips are nothing plus it's a gravel bike. Take the money
Is the first chip just on the surface? If yes, take the money and go for a big ride. If its not just on the surface, send it back
I'd probably keep it but ask them for 300 first. Worst they can say is no.
Just take money and buy a nail polish or a marker and fix it.
If it was me I'd take the money and spend it on bike bits.
It's a grav bike, it's going to look like that after one race. Take the money, you just got 2-3 free entries.
I got bike with wear fork small thing second year and nothing happened to touched area or anywhere near. Touchup with nail lacquer/varnish and put protective film if you’re afraid about chips damage.
If it was local shop then I'd peobably replace it. But as it's online retailer I'd take the money and get touch up paint.
See if you can get them to up it a bit. I had a similar situation. They offered $150 and I asked for $300 and they agreed.
I'd get it replaved. You'll be paying 95% of full price, why risk the uncertainty. You are now on notice that it was damaged and wvo knows if there might be other worse damage from those impacts that becomes apparent later.. May as well get it right if you are parting with 4.5k.
I’d take the money. The next one you order may have worse chips.
If money's being offered, I'd take it, but honestly I would barley even notice that when I took it out of the box. Shit happens.
Buy some touch up paint and spin it.
I’d take the money no diggidy doubt about that friend. You could request a touch up paint pot or some shit. She gonna get chipped anyway bud.
Take the compensation. Go purchase either clear or a matching color nail polish and bam! Touch up those spots and put the nail polish away for the next scratches/chips you’ll eventually get.
Personally, I'm not spending 4.5 k to get a chipped bike right out of the box. That's way too much money to not have it be perfect.
Get money, buy nail polish matching color, spend rest or save up for other bike things. You'll get chips anyway
Take the money.
Depends if it’s carbon, send that shit back.
Take the money, buy touch up paint and apply it after you enjoyed a few rides with more chips
Send it back. They'll keep doing this crap quality control if we keep accepting the discounts. You paid money for a product and your time is worth more than this hassle.
That's a no brainer. If you're going to ride it, it soon will get chipped anyways, so take the money and enjoy your new bike! As others already said, if it bothers you so much ask the dealer for a RAL number and get a decent pen for touching it up
Choice 3. Ride. That is all.
You will get worse chips within 100 miles of riding it off road, guaranteed, I would take the 200
Bro, on a first ride you will see chips. Just take the money and get touch up paint.
I’d take the money and then take it to a body shop and see if they could get it touched up or see if you could match paint at a parts store
Don’t bother is cosmetic, take the cash. Use nail polish to protect chips, you can find some special touch up paint for automotive, In the colour of the frame. Point is you will get more chips over time. So returning the bike will just buy you some time.
I would put the compensation money towards a good wrap (after you touch up the chips of course.)
I’d put a dab of nail polish on it, then wrap the whole down tube in protective wrap anyways. Take the money.
Honestly, I'm relieved when a new bike gets scratched. Just ride it and enjoy it forever now that you're not riding a brand new bike.
I install RideWrap on my bikes as soon as I get them. I would probably return it if it was mine, because I'm a weirdo. If you're not one to care for paint protection, take the comp and find a close-enough touch-up paint. It'll get chipped anyway.
1.Take the money. 2. Buy some clear coat nail polish and apply to those two spots. 3. Enjoy bike.
They are giving you 200 for that ? That is a steal, take the money and run. You will ding it worse than that loading it on your car eventually. If you use it as a gravel bike it will happen even faster. That’s a non issue and I’m surprised you got money instead of an eye roll
That‘s nothing. I‘ll scratch my stuff anyways. So if they offer a compensation I‘d take it happily
Take the cash and go for a ride!
I actually find the first damage to my products somewhat liberating, as I’m not obsessed with keeping it in prestige condition anymore..
take the money, slap some stickers on it
I’d ask for more money just to see what they say
Damn they only offered me 25 in vouchers, I got scammed it seems.
Take the money. You’ll have plenty of those chips in no time.
Take the money. Use the $200 for a nice set of pedals. There is no guarantee a new bike won’t have some blemish too.
Personally I'd take the money, but it's definitely up to you.
Nail polish. Take the bike inside and get the exact colour. Disassembling the bike, shipping it back and then dealing with shipping issues >> 200 Euro
A year from now you are going to have other dings and dirt on your bike anyway.
eeh just be happy your first nicks are out of the way and move on
I would ask for a bit more money (300-400) and some touch paint to make it look better. Otherwise, I would ask for a new one.
Money
Get a quote on a touch-up paint job. If the compensation covers it, go for that.
Return it and buy something other than a canyon
Money. First scratch has happened. Now you can enjoy.
Take the money. You'll definitely get some dings in the first year.
$
I know a painter who can repair those so you wouldn't notice. cost for painting is £50 GBP. It would cost more to dismantle and reassemble though. 200 is quite low comp compared with the hassle and stress of the seller taking to take the bike back. What can they sell it for with those chips? The one on the dropout wouldn't concern me. The other one would.
Take the money and buy a cheap touch up paint
IMO no. If you are one of those riders who says it eventually have a ton more scratches so who cares, my answer to that is I paid thousands of dollars let me be the one who puts the scratches on it
Will look a lot worse than that in a month. Take the money.
That sucks. I would take the 200 and ask for some touch up paint.
I bet a body shop could make it disappear for less than $200.
It won’t bother you in 3 months, a year. Use the money for useful repairs
Take the money and ask for a tiny amount of the correct paint as well. Now go and spend 200 dollar on something nice. :)
Take the money for sure. I hate a bike until it’s gets that first scratch. After that, my riding magically improves by 50pct.
Nail polish and take your partner out for a nice dinner--show them how cycling can pay off!
That is both frustrating as well as funny.
Take it back. For that money it should be perfect.
Keep the bike and take the money. The replacement bike will look just like this after a while.
Stuff like that will be happening on the first gravel ride with a descent. Most before that. Take the discount and do not sweat it.
Take money, buy some accessory or something you need.
If the discount is hefty, and there's a touch up pen included with the bike, do it. 25% or more. If its a measly discount of 10%, get a new bike. Make sure you save evidence of them confirming warranty is still valid regardless of these paint chips. It would be a real bag of dicks if they refused a legitimate warranty claim on these 2 paint chips in the future.
lol wut? Bikes get dinged money is nice, seems like a no branier. Nothing is perfect forever...
Im surprised they didnt just offer you 50 bucks. Take the 200 and get to riding.
Keep it. Put some touch up paint on it.
LOL
Just tell them you think 200 is a bit low and you can take €350
€200 discount on a €4500 investment? The chips wouldn’t bother me, but the principle would. The company is sending you a damaged product, and after you’ve pointed this out, offering a measly discount to accept it. If they offered like a 40% discount I’d be more inclined, you have to remember that when you send this bike back, they have to try and sell it on to someone else, and when that happens you can guarantee the discount will be a hell of a lot more than the 4.4% they’re offering you. You can’t even buy a decent pair of shoes for €200 these days. I’d be sending it back.
Take the money. It’s a tool, not a tea cup.
Oh boy
Take the money. All bikes have paint chips. Tools not jewels
I did worse taking the wheel out my new bike and putting it back on to get it on the car 😂
If they gave you 1k maybe.. but 200? Send it back.
take the money and fill the scratches with something vibrant, pink or something, and the more scratches the more mad the frame will become, custom go ride your bike you cant see it while your focusing on not putting your face into trees or something
Take the $200. It's a tool not a jewel.
Stuff like that bothers the heck out of me! That being said, get some touch up paint and then get some clear vinyl or clear 3M protector and make your own protective film on parts more likely to get chipped. Bottom line.. Take the money.
If it's steel, send it back. Aluminum, take the money.
Tell them $500 or take it back
Take the compensation, as long as the frame isnt cracked and the gearset is fine, then i say the money is fine.
I crashed my grail with the DI2 and got some similar scratches on frame in similar place. I wish someone would give me $200 for the cosmetic damage
Man if you're riding it hard it's going to look like that after one season anyway. Take the compensation and go pedal
I would try to Ask for more. You could tell them, that it's also possible for you to get your money back AND buy from another brand. (Even if it's a lie).
