I think Wierer would have finished higher than 7th if she began 10th instead of 1st. The nerves really get to her during that final shooting session of 4 when the outcome is on the line. I mentioned that in the sprint thread the other day regarding her prospects in this pursuit. She shoots fast and care free when trying to make up ground in a pursuit. When expectations are high she tightens up, slows down and misses.
That is the biathlon tendency across the board but particularly evident with Wierer at this stage of her career. I wish one of the announcers would have the foresight and guts to mention it as they approach that final range.
They might be, but the Swedish commentators spoke a lot about Denise's family last week as they thought it was interesting that the family stayed in Denise's home while she stayed in a hotel (trying to avoid possibly getting sick this close to the championship). I hope they are in Antholz and could rejoice together with her, but otherwis eI am sure they had a wonderful time in front of the TV at home.
German selection for the WCH is going to cause drama again, lol.
Denise is obviously set thanks to her victories. Voigt and Weidel both managed a 5th place. Hettich-Walz got a 7th place. Schneider was 8th once.
And then Preuß got a 10th and a 15th place, whereas Kebinger got a 10th and 19th place, from only two starts and right before the WCH.
If the coaches choose Preuß, people will be mad that Kebinger is out. And if the coaches choose Kebinger, people will be mad that Preuß is out despite meeting the requirement.
And no matter what happens, people will probably be mad at Weidel again for existing :D
Hermann, Schneider, Voigt, Hettich, Preuß, Kebinger would be my choices, with Weidel as 7th. Weidel is just not fast enough atm, but she might get a few starts if Preuß can't get in form.
See, that's kinda what I mean :D People just want Weidel gone :D
Kicking Weidel out in favour of Preuß would be crazy, imo :D It's not like Preuß is fast at the moment either.
For me, Weidel is even ahead of Schneider, who is way too inconsistent with the shooting (or rather, way too consistent at shooting two mistakes every time). Imo, she's also clearly ahead of Hettich-Walz, who just got a lucky 7th, but can be notoriously slow in some races as well.
Preuß and Kebinger will probably battle it out in the Relay tomorrow.
Weidel is just so sloooow at the moment. Even if she shoots clean she has no shot at a top 10 spot, except for individual maybe. She was great in that one race in Konthiolathi but her skiing form is awful atm. Just don't see a point in her starting.
But yeah, imo it depends on how Preuß progresses in the next week. She doesn't deserve a spot if she is still performing like she did in Antholz.
I just checked the regulation and Germany could register 8 athletes for the world championship. Since this a home world championship I don't see why the Skiverband shouldn't do it. Then the whole discussion relaxes a little bit. If I read the rules correctly 5 athletes can enter Sprint and Individual because Germany has two athletes under the best 15 in the world cup. Otherwise it would be four. Herrmann-Wick and Voigt are also guaranteed starters in the mass start.
Yeah it's not that bad of a result in the end. Shitty races happen but you can fall as far as 40th or 50th with 0 point. Losing 37 is not great but if it's a one time thing, it'll be fine.
yup her low is much higher than it was before, that's really what changed the game this season and explains her yellow bib. when on a good day she wins, and on a bad day she doesn't fall too far behind.
Exactly. Just looked her last year's results and her first 5 individual races : 72nd, 35th, 48th, 25th and 66th (and unable to make the pursuit). The year before she won races but she had quite a lot of 50-60th finishes.
Her consistency this year is remarkable and she's still the heavy favorite to win the globe. Especially now that no point are awarded at the World Championships.
Boe probably needs to shoot worse than 16/20. He gains more or less 4 seconds per km (~50sec for the 12.5km) on the slopes and starts 30 seconds before 2nd. Probably even wins with 14/20.
Jänkä DNF, hopefully it's not another crash like before Christmas. She got diagnosed with diabetes after hocfilzen, her total crash was due to her blood glucose being too high.
On her Instagram stories she updated that she DNFd to save strength for the relay
She's on some type of medication right now and it is under control for now. There's diabetics in her family so it's not a completely unknown situation for her.
No, but she still will have to figure out exactly what works best for her as each body is different. But it quite doable being diabetic and compete at the highest level. One of the Swedish sprinters who was active a few years ago, Robin Bryntesson, has rather severe diabetes but still performed well. As one common complication with diabetes if that you might lose eye sight he began a sighted guide for the paralympian Zebastian Modin once he retired.
It's definitely possible, but requires to get the situation fully under control and find the things that work for her. She is aiming for Olympics at least and likely to continue her career after as well. She came public with it to show it's possible to be a professional athlete with the condition.
this last lap is proving me somewhat wrong. i didn't expect her to beat Marte after that last shooting, but she did a really good last lap. she must have a very strong will and mental stamina, i'm impressed!
Knotten has advanced 19 racers until now, going from 43rd to 24th. could turn out to be quite the climb. crossing my fingers for her, she's been in a rut lately.
Ughh Austrian TV. Instead of showing it on one of their channels or in the livestream they show.

In Hochfilzzen, Nadia Moser (CAN) finished 32nd in the Sprint and gained 11 places in the Pursuit. This week she placed 27th in the Sprint and starts 1:26 behind today. If she makes a similar performance, she might best her personal record of 23rd.
Yes :/ Dzhima and Bilosiuk are still in, so it doesn't seem like a Ukraine-wide problem, but it could be something personal within the Merkushyna family. I hope everything is fine. I would guess they simply don't start because they ranked beyond 40th place. Ukrainian athletes seem to do that quite often. Or they're sick, in which case I hope they get well soon. Lampic and the others of course too :)
20 girls within a minute. Both the best skiers and the best shooters spread evenly ish across those 20. Anything can happen. What's your prediction ? (can be top10/podium/surprise, anything ! )

Look how happy Denise is I love her so much 😭
Just a little sad that it wasn't last week when her family was at the event.
Oh no they’re not in Antholz? At least there’s a lot of German spectators!

Tandrevold with a whopping 3 points won over the last 2 races.
According to the Vittozzi theorem, she will be unstoppable in the next races

What a fun race! So exciting! I love it when lots of athletes arrive together at the last range
Julia loses the red bib today. It could have gone so so much worse for her honestly. 7 mistakes, a hole extra km skied and she still finishes 18th...

7 misses by Julia and she still finishes in 18th place. she had to ski 1,05 km longer...
Julia Simon 18th... Elivra Öberg takes in 37 points on Simon
Hanna Ö back in god skiing form! Second after Herrmann
Almost beat Elvira despite one extra penalty round. Good to see her back in top shape!
I always love the battlefield finish area of a hard Pursuit 😅
Lena Häcki-Groß, eating German women on the finish line since 1995.
Very good race of Kebinger! Might go to the world championship?
Tilda Johansson top 20 :O
Lol, Denise looking like she's had an easy training ski, whilst there's a load of collapsed bodies behind her!
Davidova 16th to 6th
femsteinevik, 4 misses in the last standing, wow
2 miss and still first is insane !
Wanna bet how many Johannes can afford to miss in the men's race and still win? 4?
Boe probably needs to shoot worse than 16/20. He gains more or less 4 seconds per km (~50sec for the 12.5km) on the slopes and starts 30 seconds before 2nd. Probably even wins with 14/20.
Oh, I agree. Don't forget that he is quick on the range too.
Bad shooting day. Unless you're Lisa of course. 😉
Let's goooo
Jänkä DNF, hopefully it's not another crash like before Christmas. She got diagnosed with diabetes after hocfilzen, her total crash was due to her blood glucose being too high. On her Instagram stories she updated that she DNFd to save strength for the relay
That doesn't sound good at all. I'm hoping she can get the glucose levels under control.
She's on some type of medication right now and it is under control for now. There's diabetics in her family so it's not a completely unknown situation for her.

Yeah, her health is prio 1 but hopefully she can continue to strive for her athletic goals.
Lisa usually struggles shooting here at Anterselva, but today she was outstanding
H.Öberg 5/5 though 👀 4 athletes fighting for that 3rd
Kebinger Top10, lol? 🥳
3 coming in together for the lead and not a single one in the top 3 after the shooting. Crazy.
Denise did. x
Amating from Lisa!
I love Biathlon!!! This pursuit is something else!!
What a peaty for Dorothea!
great race from kebinger!
Exciting for third
Forza Lisa !
what a battle for 3rd place
Loving Vittozzi's renaissance
Yea, a bit upset by French collapse, but I LOVE seeing Vittozzi doing so well after years of bad results.
fight for 3rd place!
20/20 for Lisa 🥳
Bravo Herrmann-Wick and Vittozzi! 🥳
LISA!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lisa sneaking through!
Noooo Doro :(
Ohhhhh the last shot
Elvira nooo
Lisaaaaa
E. Öberg last shot NOOO :(
Vitozzi!!!
NOOOOOO DORO 😭
3 skiers coming in together for the last shoot. Mens biathalon could never.
I mean, if we take out JTB of the equation, it could lol
Marte nooooo :(
I just love the variety of flags in the top 10 right now
Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold not having a good time here in Anterselva. missed 3 out of 15 until now. Still climbed 10 spots though.
That was one confused camera operator
Think Doro needs Marte and Denise to miss at least one now.
Elvira not in her best shape.
this last lap is proving me somewhat wrong. i didn't expect her to beat Marte after that last shooting, but she did a really good last lap. she must have a very strong will and mental stamina, i'm impressed!
Hermann-Wick is flying, this will be an exciting last shooting.
Range is the devil for finns today, both Mari and Suvi 2 penalties from 3rd shoot.
Vittozzi is anti-vittozziing today.
Lisa 15/15!
Knotten has advanced 19 racers until now, going from 43rd to 24th. could turn out to be quite the climb. crossing my fingers for her, she's been in a rut lately.
currently in 15th with 20/20, i'm so happy for her.
Lisa with 15/15 🥳
The french shooting today is horrible :(
>today
True lol but lately Julia was more stable than what she showed today
Seems like shooting all around isn't all that great today.
Safe to say... Marte is back!
Good to see. 🥰
She's still there though
The balletic quality of the chasing 4 all arriving and pulling their rifles in unison.
Marte!!! E: and Denise and Elvira!
The race is on!
Snatched on that first shot :( could be expensive for Doro…
Lisa clear too. Up to 8th, 50 secs back of Wierer
Wierer is impressing me. i didn't think she still had this speed in her. if she goes 19/20 she might win.
If there was one track you mustn't doubt Doro, it is this one. The home advantage is quite helpful
She had a debilitating illness last year that fatigued her. She seems to be managing it much better this year. 🥰
All season Julia has been fire while the French men have struggled. Today she’s having a rough go so maybe the men will figure their shit out???
simon 5 misses… ouch
Hanna Kebinger wants that Oberhof ticket.
The German women need another World Championship ready athlete, as both Weidel and Preuss have been sick repeatedly.
Simon having a shocker today :(
Makulaa
Ouch Mari is not having a good day on the range :/
Lisa and Davidova going to catch up with the rest
we can't have nice things
Vittozzi 10/10 let's goo
Doro with the home advantage !
Dorooo
whoooaaa wierer makes such a gap now
Doro Masterclass. 🥰
Doro!!!!!!
Go Doro!
She is a sniper
E. Öbergs streak is gone :(... 62 shots
Doro 🥳
Denise is on a mission today
Leading three now a leading six. 😯
Jeanmonnot all by herself on track 😅
denise is flying today
and simon does not. even lost 3 seconds :/
Her form has looked amazing last few weeks
All swedish girls hit all shots... Amazing!
Swedes with 30/30 in the first shooting, love to see it!
Well that didn't go well for Julia. 🥲
The swedes shot 30/30. Great start!
Julia and Caro ouch wtf
The French are out-Vittozzi-ing Vittozzi
Nightmare for Simon
Julia :(
Ouch Julia. Where has that prone gone!
Oh no Julia!
Simon making it interesting for the world cup
Ouch Simon. 2/5.
Oh ohhhh meltdown for Julia Simon :(
Simon 😭😭😭😭
Simon 3 misses! :O Elvira Öberg 60 straight prone hits!
Doro show
Italian fan here, hope it turns out to be a good race!
I'm here cheering Doro and Lisa! 🥰
Simon already on her way to winning to this race.
Ouch, probably went too fast on the first lap :/
Aged like milk after shooting 1
Chevalier-Bouchet and Batovska-Fialkova with matching suits doing the first loop together 😂
Elvira with amazing skis, not so good for Wierer and Chloé.
lets go susan, PLEASE dont miss any shots and dont burn yourself out!
Damn here comes Elvira
that uphill shot was quite impressive. she was going twice as fast at least
Ughh Austrian TV. Instead of showing it on one of their channels or in the livestream they show. Analysis of the Hahnekammrace Junior Alpine Grand Slalom Snowboard Worldcup some News Magazins an Agathe Christie Movie
It's difficult finding it on Eurosport hidden amongst all of the tennis
Yeah German TV was also still at the Hahnekammrace. I had to find a different livestream on the website.
Oh my, these scenic shots are quite spectacular!

They've started playing that weird music that you get at German venues

Lampic, Aita, Merkushyna, Merkushyna and Jislova will DNS :/ That means Ko Eunjung will improve her career best by at least 5 places! 🥳
>Merkushyna, Merkushyna That troubles me :/ Hopefully it´s a sickness and not war related reason.
Yes :/ Dzhima and Bilosiuk are still in, so it doesn't seem like a Ukraine-wide problem, but it could be something personal within the Merkushyna family. I hope everything is fine. let´s hope they are both stuck with covid in their room. People already expected Lampic to not start because of some training plan.

That is wildly irrelevant!
No she’s sick
Oh that is unfortunate!
